3-Ingredient Sausage Dip

December 26, 2023

When you need a quick, crowd-pleasing appetizer, nothing beats a classic 3-Ingredient Sausage Dip. This creamy, cheesy, and savory dip comes together in just minutes and is always the first thing to disappear at any party, potluck, or game day gathering.

The beauty of this dip lies in its simplicity. With only three ingredients – ground sausage, cream cheese, and diced tomatoes with green chilies (such as Rotel) – you get maximum flavor with minimal effort. Start by browning the sausage in a skillet until fully cooked and slightly crispy. Drain the excess grease, then stir in the cream cheese and canned tomatoes. Let everything melt together until smooth and bubbly, and that’s it, your dip is ready to serve.

You can make it as mild or spicy as you like depending on the type of sausage and tomatoes you use. For extra heat, go with hot sausage and spicy Rotel. Prefer something milder? Use regular breakfast sausage and mild tomatoes.

Serve the dip warm with tortilla chips, crackers, or even toasted baguette slices. It also works well as a topping for baked potatoes or inside wraps for a flavorful twist.

What makes this sausage dip a staple for so many is how easy it is to double for large gatherings or adapt to different taste preferences. Plus, it stays warm and creamy in a slow cooker, making it perfect for serving over a long period.

Whether you’re prepping for a party or just want a simple, satisfying snack, this 3-Ingredient Sausage Dip delivers bold flavor and creamy texture in every bite. It’s proof that sometimes, less really is more.

Best dip ever!!!! I used spicy sausage and it was 🔥🔥🔥

  2. User avatar kelley.morissette36 says:

    4 stars
I used mild Rotel and it still had great flavor. Next time I’ll add a little shredded cheese, but the recipe itself is solid.

  3. 2 stars
Um, is it really a dip if you can’t even taste the sausage? I think the tomatoes overpower it!

  4. 5 stars
This is dangerously easy. Cream cheese + Rotel + sausage is such a solid combo—tastes like a party dip should. I didn’t even miss anything.

    1. User avatar diego.buckridge says:

      5 stars
Exactly! I made this for game night and it disappeared fast. So creamy and spicy—dangerously easy is right 😄

  5. 5 stars
Super easy and honestly tastes like it took way longer. Cream cheese melts perfectly once you keep it on low—great with tortilla chips.

  6. User avatar Corrupted Shade says:

This dip is a hit at every party! So easy to make and everyone loves it.

  7. 3 stars
Not sure if I did something wrong, but mine turned out really thick and clumpy. 🤨 3 stars.

      4 stars
Maybe you cooked it too long? Mine was smooth and delicious!

  8. User avatar angel.prosacco52 says:

    4 stars
Cream cheese melted nicely, no problems there. The only downside is I wish it had more depth—like some garlic or spices would make it even better.

  9. User avatar daysi.monahan1994 says:

    4 stars
This is just like my grandma used to make. Brings back good memories! 4 stars.

  10. 5 stars
WOW this is so easy! I made it for the game and everyone loved it. Definitely a keeper!

Not good for women on diets! Too much fat! Bye bye healthy eating! 👋🏽⭐

  12. 4 stars
Used turkey sausage instead and my kids devoured it! Thanks for the recipe!

  13. User avatar mathWizard says:

    4 stars
Ok but can we talk about the “3-ingredient” part—because I ended up adding extra cheese?? 😅 Still, it worked.

  14. User avatar Ford Prefect says:

    5 stars
I made this for game night and it was gone fast. The only thing I did was add a sprinkle of shredded cheddar on top at the end. Would totally make again.

  15. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    4 stars
Flavor is great, but mine got a little too thick. Next time I’ll add a splash of milk or something, because stirring on low took a while.

  16. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

    5 stars
Sausage dip? This is a must for every BBQ. 10/10 recommend!

  17. User avatar alessandra.ferry17 says:

This dip is amazing! Super easy to make and everyone loved it at the party! 5 stars!

  18. 2 stars
Seriously? Just sausage and cheese? Seems sketchy to me. 2/5.

  19. User avatar edgardo.spinka says:

    3 stars
It was ok, but I think it needed more spices or something. Just tasted kinda plain.

  20. 5 stars
This is dangerously easy. I used mild Rotel and it turned out super creamy—perfect for game night. 10/10 would make again.

    1. User avatar elmo.roob says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this one’s insanely easy. I did it for game night and it disappeared fast. Next time I’m trying the spicy Rotel just for a little kick.

  21. User avatar kiersten.zemlak74 says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously easy—3 ingredients and it still tastes like a real appetizer. The Rotel adds the perfect little kick. I served it with tortilla chips and it vanished fast.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—this dip is dangerous 😅 Three ingredients really do slap. I made it for game night and it disappeared fast too. I think draining the grease makes all the difference!

  22. User avatar Ms. Latasha Lesch says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, it seems too simple. Can it really be that good?

  23. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    2 stars
I forgot to drain the grease and it was kinda greasy… still tasty tho. Like, greasey but delicious. Wouldn’t do it again.

  24. User avatar Torchbugs says:

    3 stars
Okay but why do I always end up with too much grease? I drained, but maybe my sausage was extra fatty. Still tasty though.

  25. 3 stars
Not bad, but the sausage flavor got a little lost. I think I didn’t drain enough grease? Also, my cream cheese refused to fully melt at first.

  26. 3 stars
I followed the steps exactly and it turned out kinda thick. Maybe my cream cheese was too cold? Tasted good, but texture was off.

  27. User avatar shakira.mann48 says:

    5 stars
I used mild Rotel because I’m not into spice, and it still came out creamy and flavorful. Great for parties when you don’t want to cook forever.

  28. User avatar oma.fisher15 says:

    5 stars
Cheap, quick, and honestly hits the spot. My family fought over the last chips. Will absolutely repeat.

  29. User avatar kimberley.crona says:

    2 stars
I’m not a fan of cream cheese, so this didn’t work for me. Maybe I shoulda looked for alternatives.

  30. User avatar chantal.hagenes says:

    5 stars
This dip is the bomb! So easy and super tasty! My family loved it!

  31. 2 stars
I don’t eat sausage so I used turkey. It turned out alright but not the same… maybe don’t substitue??

    1. User avatar tomasa.goldner says:

      3 stars
I think it might be okay, never tried turkey tho. But who needs sausage? Just use what you like!

    2. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      4 stars
Turkey is a good choice, but you really can’t beat the flavor of regular sausage! Maybe just try a different dip next time?

  32. 5 stars
My family loved it. I’m not even a cook, but this was foolproof. It tasted like something you’d buy from a restaurant dip bar.

  33. 2 stars
Not enough flavor for me. I added some spices but it still lacked a punch.

    1. User avatar yee.lueilwitz76 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! I added some garlic powder and a bit of cayenne to mine, and it was way better!

  34. User avatar oscar.grimes68 says:

    5 stars
Sausage, chit (you mean chips), and dip! My family horde it all! Good snack for football game.

  35. User avatar Dremora Lord says:

    4 stars
Quick and delicious! Great for last-minute gatherings. Will make again!

  36. 4 stars
Shortcut dip. My husband can’t get enough of it. Will make again for sure!

    1. User avatar Weston Kemmer says:

      2 stars
Sausage dip? Really? That sounds kinda weird. I’m not sure about melting cream cheese with sausage. Is it really that good?

    2. User avatar walker.gusikowski44 says:

      5 stars
I love how simple this recipe is! I’ve been looking for easy appetizers. Definitely trying it this weekend!

  37. User avatar dewitt.mckenzie21 says:

    5 stars
Delicious! I can literally eat this whole bowl by myself. 😂

  38. User avatar beaulah.runolfsson says:

    2 stars
One star? nah. But I don’t get the hype. Cream cheese is fine, but sausage dip feels a bit salty for me. Chips helped.

    1. User avatar pam.feeney61 says:

      3 stars
Ugh I kinda disagree—Rotel is where the flavor comes from. If yours is too salty, maybe your sausage was already seasoned? Also cream cheese helped balance it for me. But yeah, 1 star seems harsh.

    2. User avatar rick.pfannerstill says:

      4 stars
I’m with you on the salt. Mine was super salty the first time too—next time I’m gonna use less sausage or maybe drain it better. Chips definitely save it though 😄

  39. 4 stars
Yummy! I added some jalapeños for extra kick and it was even better! 🔥

  40. User avatar imogene.schulist67 says:

    5 stars
Tastes like heaven! I made it for a party and it was gone in minutes!

  41. User avatar nancie.welch says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about only 3 ingredients. Turns out it’s a genius shortcut. 10/10 comfort dip.

  42. 5 stars
Wow! Only 3 ingredients? That’s awesome! Can’t wait to try it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  43. 1 star
Burned it! Not sure what I did wrong but it got all stuck to the pan. Help!

  44. User avatar velvet.kulas75 says:

    5 stars
so easy it took me just 10 min to make! going to be a staple in my house.

  45. User avatar jame.kessler9 says:

    1 star
Really?? How can cream cheese and sausage work together? Sounds gross to me. Not gonna try it.

  46. User avatar sanjuanita.hintz53 says:

    3 stars
Okay but why does it say 10 ounces drained—when I drained it, it felt a little dry? I ended up adding a splash of the tomato liquid back and that fixed it.

  47. 5 stars
This dip is a game-changer! Made it for the Super Bowl party and it was a hit! Everyone loved it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  48. User avatar twanna.berge99 says:

    5 stars
This is one of those recipes that feels like cheating (in a good way). Also, Rotel is always a win.

  49. 3 stars
I used beef instead of sausage. Wasn’t as good. Should’ve stuck to the recipe.

    1. User avatar clarissa.white70 says:

      3 stars
Lol. Should’ve known better! Sausage is key in this recipe, beef just don’t cut it.

    2. User avatar Jamila Kreiger says:

      4 stars
Yeah, beef just doesn’t have that flavor sausage brings! Stick with the recipe next time.

  50. User avatar thaddeus.kuhic54 says:

    5 stars
I made this and my friends said it was heavenly! I didn’t believe them until I tasted it myself! 😂🌟⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

      5 stars
Wow, that sounds amazing! I’m gonna try it for my next get-together. Thanks for sharing! 😍

  51. User avatar aubrey.stamm83 says:

    3 stars
I don’t see how this can be good with just three ingredients… but I’m willing to try it.

  52. User avatar Frostbite Spider says:

    5 stars
Easy and tasty! I used mild Rotel and it still had great flavor. Cream cheese melted perfectly—my family devoured it with chips.

  53. User avatar alton.gusikowski says:

    3 stars
Followed the recipe but the texture was off. Too thick for my liking.

  54. User avatar Corrupted Shade says:

    3 stars
Followed it exactly and it came out a bit thick for my taste. Maybe I’ll add a splash of milk next time, but overall pretty tasty.

  55. User avatar Grover Boehm says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps, but mine turned out a little too thick. Maybe my cream cheese was too cold when I added it.

  56. User avatar Wally Langworth says:

    2 stars
Okay, but aren’t there healthier options? Just sayin’…

  57. User avatar audrie.stroman16 says:

    2 stars
Meh. The flavors were fine, but I wanted more depth—like garlic or something. Also 5 minutes simmer felt too short.

  58. User avatar chauncey.sporer77 says:

    4 stars
Can I use turkey sausage instead? Trying to eat healthier but love dips!

  59. User avatar Falmer Nightprowler says:

    3 stars
I don’t understand the fuss! It was fine but just tasted like sausage and cheese. Where’s the flavor? ⭐⭐⭐

  60. User avatar morton.kuhlman says:

    5 stars
Yummy! I have tried many dips but this one is the best! I added some jalapeños for a kick.

  61. User avatar yajaira.bruen25 says:

    1 star
3 ingredients? When I cooked it, it didn’t look like in the picture lol. What went wrong?

  62. User avatar dwain.kuhlman says:

    5 stars
Made it for game night and it disappeared fast. I did drain the grease like the recipe says, and it saved it from being too heavy.

  63. User avatar humberto.heidenreich says:

    4 stars
I used turkey sausage instead and it turned out great. You can’t even tell it’s healthier! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  64. User avatar chung.farrell1958 says:

    1 star
Can you make it without sausage? I don’t eat it.

  65. User avatar thomas.schmidt says:

    3 stars
Not bad but can it really be called a recipe with just 3 ingredients? Feels more like a shortcut than cooking.

    1. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

      5 stars
I think this is a great recipe! Sometimes simple is best, and it’s perfect for a quick snack.

    2. 2 stars
But 3 ingredients? That’s not really cooking, more like cheating. Real recipes need more effort.

  66. User avatar aracelis.willms42 says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously easy—made it for game night and it disappeared fast. The Rotel + cream cheese combo is perfect.

  67. User avatar julio.bode1979 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I think it needs more time if your cream cheese is cold. I rushed step 2 and ended up with little chunks, still edible though.

  68. User avatar carlton.keebler says:

    4 stars
Yum! My kids loved it! So easy to make too!

  69. User avatar donnie.wolff39 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I wish it had more depth. It tastes like “good and simple” rather than “wow.” Maybe add garlic or a pinch of cumin?

  70. User avatar luba.gerhold says:

    4 stars
Not bad, but I expected more “kick.” Next time I’ll add extra jalapeños or hot sauce because the Rotel was kind of mild for me.
