  • 2 oranges whole
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt

The ingredient list is simple, and the bake time seems reasonable. I followed it exactly and it came out nicely browned. I’d make this again for sure.

    1. User avatar irwin.weimann says:

      4 stars
Mine came out a little dense, but still tasty. I wonder if my oranges weren’t soft enough after boiling—15 minutes might be short for bigger ones.

    2. User avatar cindi.casper1951 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—mine browned up beautifully too after following the steps. The whole oranges really make it taste super fresh. Would absolutely bake again.

  2. User avatar Sheila Trantow says:

    5 stars
Made this last weekend—so fragrant! The whole orange thing is genius. Mine took closer to 60 minutes but came out super moist.

  3. 4 stars
Honestly, I was worried the whole oranges would be bitter, but it turned out great. I did remove seeds carefully and blended until totally smooth.

    1. User avatar racheal.feil2003 says:

      5 stars
Same here—I always fear whole fruit cakes will go bitter. Love that you removed seeds and blended smooth. Definitely trying this method!

  4. User avatar gisela.ankunding81 says:

    5 stars
Made this today—turns out super moist! Blending the whole oranges is the move. I baked mine at 52 minutes and it was perfect.

  5. User avatar leonel.lubowitz says:

    3 stars
I didn’t remove every single seed (oops) and it was slightly bitter in spots. Next time I’ll be more careful, but overall it was still yummy.

  6. User avatar hong.dooley2022 says:

    5 stars
This is such a clever idea—using whole oranges gives it that rich, fragrant flavor. I made it last week and it disappeared fast. Great instructions too!

  7. User avatar temika.brown says:

    5 stars
This cake was amazing! So moist and flavorful. Will definitely make again!

  8. User avatar sha.mcdermott says:

    4 stars
Looks simple. Gonna try it this weekend.

  9. User avatar Eddie the Computer says:

    4 stars
Followed the steps pretty much exactly. Texture was nice, but next time I’ll add a bit more sugar or maybe half a teaspoon extra baking powder.

    1. User avatar graham.nicolas54 says:

      5 stars
Nice! I’ve made orange cakes before and that little tweak (sugar/baking powder) can really brighten the crumb. Glad the texture came out well.

  10. User avatar twila.fadel23 says:

    5 stars
Wow, super easy! My kids loved it! Thanks for sharing this recipe! 🎉

  11. 2 stars
I tried it but it came out too dense. Maybe I messed something up… not sure.

  12. User avatar akilah.reichel says:

    3 stars
The batter smelled amazing, but I got a weird bitter edge from the orange peels. Maybe I didn’t blend it smooth enough or missed a seed?

    1. User avatar jacob.balistreri22 says:

      4 stars
I had that happen once—ended up with a seed or two mashed into the blend and it tasted weirdly bitter. I’d double-check for seeds and also blend longer, scraping down the sides once or twice.

    2. User avatar luanne.ebert2014 says:

      5 stars
That bitter edge sounds like you might’ve gotten some of the white pith in there. Even if the peel is blended smooth, the pith can overpower. Next time, try peeling the orange with as little white as possible before blending (or at least trim the pith).

  13. User avatar zack.schuster58 says:

    5 stars
Cool idea! Glad I found this. Looks pretty too! 😍

  14. 5 stars
Whaaat?! You can bake oranges? Mind blown. Gotta try this for my next family gathering.

I followed the recipe exactly but my cake turned out really dense. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not impressed. 2 stars.

    1. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

      4 stars
Did you check if your baking powder is fresh? That can make a difference! Also, maybe try beating the eggs longer next time? Just a thought!

    2. User avatar bobby.morissette says:

      3 stars
I had the same problem! My cake was so heavy, I thought I made a brick instead. I think maybe it’s the flour ratio? Not sure…

  16. 5 stars
This cake is delicious! I never thought of using whole oranges. It’s a game changer!

    1. User avatar gino.huels45 says:

I made this cake and it was a hit at the party! Everyone loved it! Thanks for sharing! 😋

    2. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

      2 stars
Whole oranges? Is that even safe? I mean do they taste good in a cake? I dunno about this one…

  17. User avatar laraine.blanda says:

    3 stars
This is a nice “weekend bake” recipe, but the prep is a lot more work than plain cake. Boiling, cooling, blending… still worth it though.

  18. 5 stars
This cake tastes like breakfast meets dessert. I used a little orange zest glaze and it was chef’s kiss.

    1. User avatar june.nienow7 says:

      5 stars
“Breakfast meets dessert” is exactly the vibe 😍 I’ve been craving orange desserts lately, so this sounds perfect. Did you bake yours for the full 60 minutes?

  19. User avatar sherika.kozey2008 says:

    3 stars
I tried this but my cake came out flat. Was I supposed to use blood oranges or something? 🤔

  20. User avatar earnestine.smitham89 says:

    5 stars
This cake is amazing! So moist and flavorful. I love the orange zest mixed in. Definitely a 5-star recipe!

  21. User avatar osvaldo.smith85 says:

    4 stars
350°F is okay, but 50-60 minutes feels like a wide range. Mine was underdone at 50 and perfect at 63. Also, cooling in the pan 10 minutes helps a lot.

    1. User avatar Frostbite Spider says:

      5 stars
Totally agree on the cooling step—letting it sit in the pan 10 min really helps with slicing. I also found the bake time depends a lot on how “wet” your orange purée is.

    2. User avatar archie.parker says:

      4 stars
Mine was also done closer to 63 than 50. I think 50 is when the toothpick comes out with a few crumbs and people call that “clean” 😅

  22. User avatar tawanda.turcotte says:

    4 stars
I followed the recipe to a T, but the oranges burnt in the boiling water. Should I cover them next time?

    1. User avatar rolland.swift68 says:

      2 stars
Oranges burning? I don’t get it. I boiled mine just fine. Maybe try a different pot?

    2. User avatar ferdinand.vonrueden says:

      4 stars
I usually cover them with a lid or foil to prevent burning. That might help next time!

  23. User avatar Lunkwill and Fook says:

    5 stars
WOW! Can’t believe how good this turned out! So many compliments from friends! 😍

    1. User avatar Peregrin Took says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear that! It’s one of my favorites too. 😄

  24. User avatar richard.vonrueden94 says:

    5 stars
This cake is amazing! I never thought using whole oranges would taste so good. Got lots of compliments at my party!

  25. 4 stars
Can you use lemon instead? I have a ton of lemons and no oranges. Hope it works!

  26. User avatar zachery.mcdermott21 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have any eggs so I used applesauce instead. Still turned out delicious!

    1. User avatar reyes.koss85 says:

      5 stars
That’s a clever substitution! I’ve heard applesauce works well in baking. Glad it turned out yummy!

  27. 4 stars
I followed it but my blender kept making little bits of orange peel. Still edible, just not as smooth. Next time I’ll process longer.

  28. User avatar Rita S Moon says:

    5 stars

Sounds oooooh, yum yum delicious !!! Going to make this

Orange cake? I never thought about it. Turns out I was missing out! Fantastic!

    1. User avatar bok.heaney2010 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, using whole oranges? Sounds weird. How does it taste, really?

    2. User avatar bobbie.okuneva15 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad you tried it! The whole orange idea is genius for flavor. 🍊

  30. User avatar micheal.champlin87 says:

    3 stars
Not sure about the “toothpick comes out clean” step—mine looked done but the center was still slightly wet. I ended up adding ~10 more minutes. Would love clearer timing.

    1. User avatar dorian.zemlak says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—“clean toothpick” is vague with this kind of citrus-wet batter. I also go by a gentle spring back on top plus a few extra minutes if needed. Adding 5–10 min seems normal.

  31. User avatar evelia.grimes2000 says:

    2 stars
it’s dry and has a funny taste. I came expecting a cake and got something else. 🙁

  32. User avatar anisa.gleichner48 says:

    4 stars
Can I substitute the oil for butter? Butter makes everything better! 😄

  33. User avatar michelle.medhurst20 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about blending the whole oranges, but wow. Sweet, citrusy, not bitter at all. I used a little extra baking powder (oops) and it still turned out great.

  34. 3 stars
I think there is too much sugar, it’s really sweet! Next time, I’ll reduce it by half. 3 stars for now.

  35. User avatar Mrs. Noah Gleason says:

    5 stars
Yass! Perfect dessert for our tea party. Everyone devoured it! 🧁

  36. User avatar ardella.bergnaum says:

    1 star
I hate oranges. Why would anyone eat this?!

    1. User avatar bill.nikolaus68 says:

      2 stars
LOL, if you hate oranges, why even bother looking at this recipe? Just stick to chocolate cake!

    2. User avatar hortencia.ritchie1991 says:

      4 stars
Not everyone likes oranges, but this cake is so good! Give it a try, you might surprise yourself!

  37. 5 stars
This was a hit at the family reunion! Everyone was asking for the recipe. Thanks for sharing! 5 stars!

  38. User avatar lorette.tromp61 says:

    4 stars
Easy enough, and the instructions are clear. I did swap in olive oil once and it still worked (maybe slightly different taste).

    1. 5 stars
Glad it still turned out! I love that olive oil works—orange + olive oil sounds like it’d be extra aromatic. 🍊

    2. 4 stars
Yeah the taste difference makes sense. Vegetable oil is pretty neutral, olive oil can come through more. Still, cool swap!

  39. User avatar wally.kunze48 says:

    3 stars
Is it really that good? Looks simple but not sure about boiling oranges. Sounds weird.

  40. User avatar Sadye Lebsack says:

    3 stars
This cake took forever to bake. 60 minutes? What if it’s burnt? Rethink ur timing!!

  41. 5 stars
I made this with one orange that was kind of thick-skinned—still turned out great. Super fragrant and moist. The blender step is key; don’t half-blend it.

    1. 4 stars
One orange?? That’s brave 😅 Mine always needs more batter. Still, if it turned out moist and fragrant I might try your ratio—did you adjust the bake time at all?

    2. User avatar ArabianNights says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I also find the blender step makes all the difference—keeps it smooth and not bitter. Glad it still worked with thick skin oranges.

  42. User avatar Leisa Haley DVM says:

    2 stars
Meh. Whole orange cake sounds cool on paper but it’s not my vibe. Kinda heavy and not sweet enough for me without frosting.

  43. User avatar beryl.sawayn2005 says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, I didn’t boil the oranges long enough (more like 8-10 min). Cake was a little tough. Flavor was good, but texture needs that softness.

  44. User avatar ollie.predovic says:

    3 stars
Idk it turned out kinda dense. Could be my baking powder (it old). Still, orange flavor is strong and nice.

  45. User avatar Victor Mills says:

    5 stars
This is one of those cakes that looks fancy even when you’re not. I served it plain and it was gone fast. Would definitely make again!

  46. User avatar azucena.franecki90 says:

    4 stars
Came out nice, but I think 1 cup sugar might be a bit low for my taste since the oranges weren’t very sweet. Next time I’ll bump it slightly.

  47. User avatar stanton.schmidt11 says:

    2 stars
I messed up the batter and added too much sugar. Now it’s just a big sweet mush! 🤦‍♂️

  48. 5 stars
Tried this and it’s honestly so aromatic—like real orange flavor, not just “hint of citrus.” The texture came out tender too. I baked mine right around 55 minutes.

  49. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    3 stars
It was alright, but kinda dense for my taste. Maybe a little too much flour?

  50. User avatar jacques.hettinger16 says:

    5 stars
Made this today—wow. The whole orange thing is legit. Super moist and fragrant, and the crumb stayed tender even after cooling.

    1. 5 stars
This makes me want to bake it ASAP. “Whole orange” cakes always sound intimidating but your results sound perfect—moist, fragrant, and not dried out. 🙌

    2. User avatar courtney.satterfield says:

      3 stars
I tried something similar once and it was super bitter—did you do anything about the pith? Also 15 min boiling seems short? Maybe my oranges were bigger. Either way, glad yours turned out!

  51. User avatar carline.brown62 says:

    4 stars
1/2 cup oil seems a lot… but the cake isn’t greasy. Kinda sweet though; maybe reduce sugar next time.

  52. User avatar Ms. Lyn O'Keefe says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie I almost skipped the boiling step. Don’t. Boiling softens the peel way more—huge difference in texture.

  53. User avatar max.swaniawski2006 says:

    4 stars
Tastes like sunshine! 🥰 My kids loved it. A fun twist to regular cake recipes!

    1. User avatar caroyln.simonis83 says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear that! This cake really is a unique treat. 🍊✨

    2. 2 stars
I don’t know about sunshine, but my kids didn’t like it at all. Too weird for us! 😕

  54. User avatar miesha.kassulke9 says:

    2 stars
Don’t know why people rave about this… just an average cake for me.

  55. User avatar dewey.runolfsson says:

    2 stars
Lol i overcooked it a bit cuz i didnt check. Still orange, but dry-ish. Next time watch the clock better!

    1. 4 stars
Oh nooo 😅 but “still orange” is a win honestly. I’ve done the same—these cakes go from perfect to dry way faster than you’d think. Next time maybe check around 45 min?

  56. User avatar China Lemke says:

    5 stars
This cake turned out AMAZING! I had my doubts with whole oranges, but it was so flavorful. Definitely making this again!

    1. User avatar mora.schroeder48 says:

      5 stars
This sounds so unique! I would have never thought to use whole oranges. I bet the flavor is out of this world! Can’t wait to try it myself!

  57. User avatar Frankie and Benjy says:

    1 star
Whole orange cake? Isn’t that weird? Looks tough to make. 🙄

    1. User avatar Gurney Halleck says:

      3 stars
Looks kinda complicated for a cake. I wonder if it really tastes good… 🤔

    2. User avatar ronna.stroman1999 says:

      5 stars
I know it sounds unusual, but trust me, it’s actually super delicious! The flavor is amazing! 😋

  58. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

    3 stars
Interesting recipe, but why cook the oranges? Seems like unnecessary work. I’d rather just use orange juice.

  59. User avatar blythe.oberbrunner says:

    5 stars
My kids loved it! Thank you for this easy recipe. 🍰

  60. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

    5 stars
I was skeptical about blending the whole orange, but wow. The cake was super moist and not too bitter. Next time I’ll maybe add a little vanilla for fun.

    1. User avatar marion.hahn17 says:

      5 stars
I had the same skepticism—whole fruit just sounds weird until you taste it. Glad it turned out moist and not bitter! I think vanilla would be a great add.

  61. User avatar elana.vonrueden47 says:

    5 stars
Y’all, best cake ever! I made it for my mom’s bday and she cried. This cake brings joy! 🍰

  62. User avatar branda.swaniawski says:

    3 stars
I tried it but my oranges had more seeds than expected. I removed them, but I think I missed one—oops. Still tasty though, just a bit crunchy in places.

  63. 3 stars
Good cake, but it took forever to bake! 🙄 I had to leave it in for almost 70 mins. What’s up with that?

  64. User avatar jan.kuhlman51 says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and the center was a little underdone at 50 minutes. I had to bake longer and tent with foil. Not a dealbreaker, just adjust timing.

    1. User avatar Android 17 says:

      4 stars
Good to know! I always think 50 minutes is “magic,” but ovens vary a lot. I’ll plan to tent with foil if the top browns too fast.

  65. 4 stars
Yummy! I added some chocolate chips to the batter and it turned out great! 🍊🍫

    1. User avatar jon.kautzer says:

      5 stars
Chocolate chips? That sounds amazing! I’ll have to try it that way. 🍰

  66. User avatar chadwick.heathcote28 says:

    2 stars
I don’t get it… whole oranges? Wouldn’t the peel make it bitter? Mine tasted kinda funky, like too much rind. Maybe I cut it wrong or didn’t blend enough.

    1. User avatar son.stroman says:

      4 stars
Whole oranges sounds weird at first, but the peel adds a ton of orange flavor. If it tastes funky, I’d blame under-blending or maybe not cooking them long enough.

    2. User avatar neville.rohan says:

      5 stars
I get why you’d think that, but boiling softens the peel a lot. It shouldn’t come out like bitter rind if you process the oranges until truly smooth.

  67. User avatar kayleigh.sipes says:

    4 stars
Why do we boil the whole oranges? I tried skipping that once and it was… not right. The boil step really matters.

  68. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    4 stars
Followed steps exactly, but my toothpick didn’t come out clean at 50 minutes, so I went closer to 65. Could be my oven, but still delicious. Nice and moist.

  69. User avatar lanell.cummerata says:

    3 stars
It was okay but I expected more flavor. Maybe I’ll try using blood oranges next time. Not sure if that would work.

  70. User avatar bryce.pacocha17 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about this. I mean, whole oranges? Sounds weird. I might stick to my chocolate cake.

  71. User avatar Death Hound says:

    4 stars
Mine took closer to 65 minutes but that toothpick test saved me. Tastes like a fancy orange loaf cake. Love how simple the ingredients are.

  72. User avatar duncan.okon says:

    5 stars
I’m giving it 5 stars cuz it was easy and my family ate it fast. I made a quick glaze too and wow.

  73. 3 stars
Not sure about baking soda AND powder together—felt like it might rise too much? Mine domed a lot and cracked on top, but it was still edible.

    1. User avatar juanita.wilderman says:

      5 stars
Yeah I totally get the worry, but in this kind of cake the baking soda helps with the acidity from the orange, while the powder gives a steadier lift. If yours domed/cracked, it might just be a slightly hotter oven or over-mixing the batter after the dry ingredients—still, edible is a win!

    2. User avatar mariah.bergstrom says:

      3 stars
I’m confused—why even use both? I always do either soda OR powder. Also my cake always cracks if I bake it too long, so maybe check the doneness at like 45 minutes. Still sounds tasty though.

  74. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

    4 stars
So good!!! I’d never thought to boil oranges before. I’m gonna try it again and add chocolate next time. Yum!

  75. 5 stars
This cake is amazing! I’ve never thought of using whole oranges, but it turned out so good. Will make again!

  76. User avatar trinidad.shields55 says:

    2 stars
Idk why people like this so much—my cake was kinda dense. I’m sure I did something wrong though. Next time I’ll whip the eggs more.

  77. User avatar veola.gibson says:

Why cook the oranges? Seems unnecessary. I just blended them raw and it worked.

  78. User avatar Oolon Colluphid says:

Yum! Orange cake is the best! This recipe is super easy, love it!

  79. 4 stars
I love how easy this recipe is! Just throw in the oranges and blend them! Perfect for a beginner like me!

  80. 2 stars
Not for me. The texture was weird and too orangey. Maybe just use orange zest next time? 🤷‍♂️

  81. 4 stars
Pretty good, but I think 1 cup sugar felt a tiny bit low for my taste since I used very juicy oranges. Next time I’ll add a little more or maybe a simple glaze.

  82. 2 stars
Did anyone else get a slightly bitter taste? I used oranges that were kind of tangy. Maybe the seeds weren’t fully removed?

    1. 4 stars
Could be the seeds/pith. I always quarter, then I run my fingers through to get every seed and stringy bits out. Also make sure you cook the oranges until really soft—undercooked orange can taste weird/bitter.

    2. User avatar chauncey.wunsch53 says:

      2 stars
Yes! I noticed that too the first time. I think I didn’t process it long enough, and some tiny bitter bits from the pith stayed in. Next time I’ll blend super smooth and scrape any stubborn bits off the orange before blending.

  83. User avatar Bowerick Wowbagger says:

    1 star
Ain’t nobody got time for boiling oranges! Just buy orange juice and mix it. Saves time!

  84. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

I’m skeptical about baking whole oranges. The smell is great, but mine came out a little bitter in the middle. Maybe I didn’t cook them long enough.

    1. User avatar robt.hyatt42 says:

      4 stars
Whole orange in cake sounds amazing, but yeah—bitterness in the middle usually means the pith/rind didn’t fully mellow. I bet they needed either longer boiling or more thorough blending (and maybe you still left some white pith).

    2. User avatar donnell.morar2018 says:

      4 stars
Mine was bitter too 😩 I followed the 15 min boil but the center stayed kinda intense. Next time I’m gonna simmer them closer to 25-30 min and test softness before blending.

  85. 1 star
Huh? Whole oranges? Sounds gimmicky. I probably won’t make this.

    1. User avatar tyron.turner says:

      4 stars
I thought it was gonna be a complicated recipe, but whole oranges? That’s kinda cool! I’m gonna try it for sure!

    2. User avatar Sam Dayoulpay says:

      2 stars
Seriously, whole oranges? That just sounds weird. I doubt that’s gonna taste good.

  86. 5 stars
I was skeptical about putting the whole orange (peel and all) in there, but it tastes amazing. Not too bitter. Great flavor.

  87. User avatar lucas.aufderhar22 says:

    5 stars
Made this today—whole orange flavor is unreal. I baked the full 60 minutes and it came out super moist. Definite keeper!

  88. User avatar walker.koss2019 says:

    3 stars
Way too sweet for my taste—1 cup sugar felt like a lot with the oranges. I’d cut it to maybe 3/4 cup next time.

  89. User avatar beulah.haag says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about blending the whole oranges, but wow. The cake tastes like orange marmalade but softer. Next time I’ll maybe add a little vanilla.

    1. User avatar adam.nader63 says:

      5 stars
I was skeptical too 😅 but once I tried it, whole oranges really do magic. The texture is so much softer than I expected.

    2. User avatar sheridan.ratke says:

      3 stars
Wait… 2 whole oranges in a blender? I feel like that might turn out bitter unless you soak them for longer. I’d add vanilla AND maybe a bit more sugar to balance it.

  90. User avatar tony.raynor says:

    5 stars
YUM! Did mine with a chocolate glaze on top and it was heavenly! I’m baking it again this weekend!

    1. User avatar johnnie.hill35 says:

      5 stars
That chocolate glaze sounds incredible! I bet it adds such richness to the cake. Can’t wait to try that myself!

    2. 2 stars
I dunno… whole oranges in a cake? Seems weird. Aren’t you supposed to peel them first? 🤔

  91. User avatar hollis.runte84 says:

    3 stars
Whole oranges? Really?? Sounds weird but I might try it anyway. 🤔

    1. User avatar cheree.green says:

Whole oranges? Sounds crazy but I bet it tastes awesome! Can’t wait to try it myself!

  92. User avatar Ms. Mose Jerde says:

    2 stars
Mine sank slightly in the center. I measured flour with a cup (oops) so maybe I packed it. Next time I’ll weigh it and see.

  93. User avatar Constance Noring says:

    4 stars
My blender struggled with the orange puree. I had to scrape down a ton and blend longer. Once I got it smooth, the batter turned out fine.

  94. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

    5 stars
Yummm!!! 5 stars! Just like my grandma used to make. Nostalgia overload!

    1. User avatar jospeh.jacobson62 says:

      3 stars
Really? You make a cake with whole oranges? Seems kinda weird but maybe it’s good. Not so sure…

    2. User avatar lorenzo.dietrich39 says:

      5 stars
That sounds amazing! Can’t wait to try it myself. My mom used to make great cakes too!

  95. User avatar chara.fritsch18 says:

This cake was a disaster for me! Burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. I’m not a great baker tho.

  96. User avatar w00d_ch0p says:

    5 stars
This is the kind of cake that looks homemade (in a good way). My kids kept asking for seconds. Definitely doing again.

  97. User avatar laverna.gorczany2007 says:

    5 stars
This cake tastes amazing! I never thought to use whole oranges like this. Will make again!

  98. 5 stars
This cake was amazing! I loved how the orange flavor really came through. Definitely a keeper!

  99. User avatar marry.runte says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have eggs so I used applesauce instead. Not sure if that works, but cake tasted okay.

  100. User avatar maurice.watsica38 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about “toothpick clean” because mine came out with a little orange-y batter. I waited anyway and it turned out gummy. Might need less orange or more baking.

  101. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about using whole oranges, but wow! This is a game-changer!

  102. User avatar marylyn.bartoletti says:

    4 stars
35oF? Wait—nah I know you meant 350. Either way, I think my oven runs hot, so I started checking early. Saved it at the last second.

  103. 2 stars
Tried making this, but I think my oranges were too thick. The cake came out dense, like a brick. Not sure what went wrong.

  104. User avatar reed.yost71 says:

    2 stars
What? You put the whole orange in? I didn’t follow that part and just used orange juice. Cake came out fine but not orange-y enough.

    1. User avatar jeromy.mcglynn26 says:

      4 stars
Using juice instead of whole oranges? That’s interesting! I wonder if it affects the texture too much. Maybe try zest next time for more flavor?

    2. 2 stars
Idk, seems weird to use whole oranges. Ain’t juice good enough? Think I’ll stick to my recipe. 🤷‍♂️

  105. 3 stars
I dunno if boiling the oranges is such a good idea?? Like, wouldn’t it just make them mushy? 🤔

  106. User avatar Liet-Kynes says:

    5 stars
Made this for my kids and they loved it! Easy to follow and turned out great! 5 stars!

  107. 5 stars
Made this for brunch and it smelled like sunshine. The orange flavor is super noticeable without being too sweet. Mine took closer to 60 minutes, but the toothpick test saved me.

    1. 5 stars
“Smelled like sunshine” is the perfect description 😂 I love how the whole orange really does the heavy lifting flavor-wise. 60 minutes sounds right though—my oven runs hot/cold depending on the day.

    2. User avatar fausto.harber44 says:

      4 stars
I made this too and I’m confused about the “serve it as is” part—mine was kinda plain unless I added a frosting. Did you do anything extra besides letting it cool? Also, did you blend the orange skin fully or did yours get bitter?

  108. User avatar ashli.pacocha96 says:

    3 stars
Whole orange? Really? Sounds weird. I’m not sure if I want to try this…😒

    1. User avatar ronald.brown says:

      4 stars
It actually sounds interesting! Whole oranges could add a unique flavor. Give it a try! 🍰

  109. User avatar Michael83 says:

    5 stars
The ingredient list is simple, which I like. But 2 oranges can vary a lot—mine were small so I added 1 extra orange quarter and it worked.

  110. User avatar damien.robel20 says:

    3 stars
Honestly I expected it to taste more like orange juice. It’s good, but the texture is more like a pound cake than fluffy sponge.

  111. User avatar lael.welch73 says:

    5 stars
This cake is simply delicious! I never thought I could bake a cake with whole oranges. It turned out so moist and flavorful. Will be making it again!

  112. User avatar douglas.murphy84 says:

    4 stars
I think my eggs were too cold? It didn’t get light and fluffy like the instructions said. Still baked up fine though.

  113. User avatar Falmer Gloomlurker says:

    5 stars
350F for 50-60 minutes was spot on for my oven. I like that it doesn’t require frosting—less work, more cake. Great recipe.

  114. User avatar Stephan Douglas says:

    4 stars
Took 60 minutes for my oven, toothpick came out clean. I let it cool the full way and it was way better sliced than the first piece I tried warm 😅

  115. 2 stars
I tried it, and it rose beautifully, but I didn’t love how strong the citrus was. Maybe I’d cut the sugar next time or use smaller oranges.

  116. User avatar rich.landlord says:

    4 stars
So easy and delicious! I didn’t even need frosting, it was sweet enough! 💖

    1. User avatar myrta.rice1950 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! The natural sweetness of the oranges makes it so yummy! 🍊

    2. 3 stars
Sounds good, but is it really sweet enough without frosting? I typically like mine with a bit more decoration. 🤔

  117. 2 stars
So, I used lemon instead of oranges and it was a disaster! 😂

  118. User avatar gladis.lubowitz1953 says:

    4 stars
This cake is basically orange-flavored health food, right? 😅 Honestly though, it’s not bad at all. I served it plain and it was good with tea.

  119. User avatar terrell.gleichner22 says:

    5 stars
This cake is simply amazing!!! The orange flavor is so fresh and unique. My family loved it!

    1. User avatar Wellington Yueh says:

      5 stars
I’m glad to hear you loved the cake! The orange flavor really does make it special. I’m thinking of making it for a family gathering, any tips?

    2. 2 stars
I dunno, sounds kinda weird to bake a whole orange in a cake. How does that even turn out? Not sure I’d try that.

  120. User avatar christal.yundt40 says:

    4 stars
I dunno, sounded weird to use whole oranges. But I tried it and WOW, it’s surprisingly good! Definitely making this again!

  121. User avatar cody.considine73 says:

    5 stars
I tried frosting it with cream cheese and it was AMAZING. Next time I’ll add a little vanilla too. Great recipe—won’t lie.

  122. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    2 stars
I don’t get it. Cooking the oranges whole? Sounds strange! My cake turned out real flat, maybe I did something wrong.

  123. User avatar Curt N. Rodd says:

    3 stars
The instructions are clear, but 2 whole oranges feels like a lot. I might try 1 next time and see if the texture is lighter. Still tasty though.

  124. 3 stars
Okay but what kind of oranges? Like navel vs bitter? I used a super seedy one and had to pick out a bunch of seeds. Still tasted okay.

  125. User avatar arturo.wyman88 says:

    3 stars
Followed the recipe exactly but it didn’t rise much. Anyone else have this issue?

  126. 2 stars
I don’t know… 2 oranges whole sounds like it could be bitter. Mine was a little bitter, maybe my oranges were too pithy. I probably won’t repeat.

  127. User avatar Deep Thought says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps exactly, but my cake sank in the middle. Maybe my baking powder or baking soda is old? Still tasted fine, just not pretty.

  128. User avatar Larhonda Padberg says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty closely but I think my blender couldn’t fully smooth the rind. Still tasty though—more “rustic” than smooth, but good orange flavor.

  129. User avatar murray.heidenreich34 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical at first about blending whole oranges, but it turned out surprisingly not bitter. Great flavor, would bake again.

  130. 2 stars
I tried making this, but my cake didn’t rise at all. Followed everything but it just sunk.

  131. User avatar tyree.rogahn84 says:

    1 star
this was gross. I don’t think oranges belong in cake. Stick to chocolate.

  132. User avatar talisha.wolf22 says:

    2 stars
I tried making this but forgot to blend the oranges. It was a bit chunky and not great. 😂

  133. User avatar Dahlia Swift says:

    3 stars
The cake was alright. I think I used too much oil, it was kinda greasy. Next time I’ll cut back.

  134. User avatar trevor.davis59 says:

    3 stars
Mine turned out a bit dense. I think I overmixed the batter after adding the flour? Also my oranges had more seeds than I expected even after checking…

  135. User avatar Hurdy Gurdy Man says:

    4 stars
Mine took the full 60 minutes and the center was a little dense, but the taste was still really good. I think I might’ve under-beat the eggs.

  136. 1 star
Low effort review: cake was… cake. Didn’t taste like anything special to me.

  137. User avatar Super Saiyan Goten says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about baking soda *and* baking powder. It rose really nicely anyway. Good call.

  138. 4 stars
Delicious! Just a lil’ too sweet for my taste. Next time I’ll cut down the sugar a bit.

    1. User avatar halflife4 says:

      4 stars
I think the sweetness is what makes it so good! But I get it, everyone’s taste is different.

  139. User avatar Falmer Nightprowler says:

    5 stars
Not gonna lie, blending the whole oranges felt weird at first. But the texture ended up smooth and not bitter. My family asked for seconds, so yeah, good recipe.

    1. User avatar jerrell.mcglynn62 says:

      5 stars
I had the same “wait… whole oranges?” reaction 😅 but once I tried it, it makes sense—so glad it’s not bitter and you got seconds!

  140. User avatar Annie Matter says:

    3 stars
Tried making it but the batter was kinda thick. Did I do something wrong? 😕
