Three-Ingredient Baked Chicken Breasts

October 30, 2023

Looking for an easy, healthy, and delicious dinner option? Baked chicken breasts are the answer! Whether you’re meal prepping for the week, preparing a quick weeknight dinner, or looking for a lean protein to complement your favorite sides, baked chicken breasts are an incredibly versatile choice.

One of the reasons baked chicken breasts are so popular is their simplicity. With just a few basic ingredients, chicken breasts, olive oil, seasonings, and a little time, you can create a flavorful, juicy main dish that’s perfect for any occasion. The trick is to not overcook the chicken, as this can lead to dryness. Cooking at a moderate temperature helps lock in the moisture, resulting in a perfectly tender and juicy breast.

To prepare, start by brushing the chicken breasts with olive oil and seasoning them generously with your favorite spices. You can stick to simple salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika, or get creative with herbs like thyme, rosemary, or oregano. For an extra burst of flavor, consider marinating the chicken for an hour or two before baking.

Once your chicken is seasoned, place it in a preheated oven and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 20-30 minutes, depending on the thickness of the breasts. You’ll know it’s done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). If you prefer a crispy skin, you can broil the chicken for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.

Baked chicken breasts can be served with a wide variety of sides, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad. They also work wonderfully in meal prep, as the leftovers can be used in sandwiches, wraps, or salads for lunch the next day.

This simple recipe is a go-to for anyone looking to create a healthy, satisfying meal with minimal effort. Whether you’re cooking for one or feeding the whole family, baked chicken breasts never disappoint.

I had the same issue! The chicken turned out bland for me too. Maybe we need to add more seasoning next time?

  8. 3 stars
eh, it was alright. Not enough flavor for me.

    1. User avatar annie.lang42 says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! I thought it could use some spices like paprika or garlic. 😅

    2. User avatar christinia.grady1959 says:

Too simple for me too, but adding some hot sauce on top makes it better! Just saying. 🔥

  13. User avatar porsha.wiegand says:

    2 stars
I had a hard time with this. The chicken was so dry no matter how long I baked it.

  14. 3 stars
Why do people rave about this? It’s just chicken with cheese! Not impressive at all.

  15. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Gohan says:

    2 stars
I’m skeptical about 20 minutes for 4 breasts. If they’re thick, that seems short. I ended up cooking way longer so don’t trust the timer blindly.

  16. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

    5 stars
So simple! I used low-sodium Italian dressing and it still came out super flavorful. Parmesan browns nicely—would definitely make again.

    1. 3 stars
Interesting… I’m not sure about 1/4 cup dressing for 4 breasts—seems like it might be a little dry? Maybe I’ll try brushing the dressing instead of drizzling. But the parmesan browning part sounds legit.

    2. User avatar shemeka.stark says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this is such an easy weeknight win. I also like that the Parmesan gets that golden top without extra steps. Definitely making it again soon!

  17. 5 stars
This was super easy! I added some garlic powder though to boost the flavor. Will make again!

  18. User avatar Spriggan Matron says:

    2 stars
I tried it, but the cheese kinda clumped and burned in spots. Next time I’ll grate fresher parmesan and maybe cover with foil halfway.

  22. 3 stars
Made this for dinner but forgot to preheat the oven. Oops! 😊

    1. 4 stars

  23. User avatar brian.weissnat75 says:

    5 stars
I made this for my kids and they loved it! Quick and tasty!

  24. 1 star
The chicken was dry and the cheese didn’t even melt properly. What did I do wrong? Followed the recipe to the letter! 👎

    1. 4 stars
I’m sorry to hear that your chicken turned out dry. Maybe your oven temperature was off? Sometimes they can be trickier than they seem. Give it another try!

    2. User avatar nanci.swift14 says:

      2 stars
I don’t understand how cheese don’t melt! If you follows the recipe, it should melt. You should try a different cheese or cook less time.

  25. 3 stars
Flavors were okay, but my husband thought it needed more seasoning. Next time I’ll add some spices.

  26. User avatar frieda.hansen73 says:

  27. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

I was skeptical about this recipe at first, but it actually turned out pretty good. Will try again!

  28. User avatar Falmer Shadowmaster says:

    4 stars
Not bad. I think my chicken breasts were thicker, so it took more like 30 min. Could’ve stated thickness or cook time range a bit clearer.

    1. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

      5 stars
Good call—thickness makes a big difference. I’ll update it with a cook-time range based on thickness next time. Thanks for the feedback!

  29. User avatar susann.schumm64 says:

    5 stars
C’mon, only 3 ingredients and it still tastes this good? Can’t believe it!

  30. User avatar steve_maga says:

    5 stars
Easy peasy! We made this on a busy weeknight, and it saved us. Thank you for this quick recipe!

  31. 4 stars
Just 3 ingredients?! I’m gonna try this for my potluck. Can I add more cheese?

  32. User avatar velvet.welch says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about only three ingredients, but it worked. Would recommend letting it rest 5 minutes before slicing.

  33. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

    2 stars
This is the problem with fast recipes. You end up with boring chicken. 🙁

  34. User avatar arden.schiller38 says:

    5 stars
So simple it feels almost too easy—400°F and 20–25 minutes worked great for me. The Parmesan got nicely golden without drying out the chicken.

  35. 2 stars
How is this even a recipe? Just pour dressing on chicken? Seems lazy.

  36. User avatar Oolon Colluphid says:

    2 stars
Wasn’t really a fan. The parmesan didn’t melt well and was kinda weird to eat.

  37. User avatar Lou Becker Sr. says:

    5 stars
3 ingredients? Wow, I thought cooking was hard!

  38. User avatar alexa.littel says:

    3 stars
It was alright, but my chicken was a little dry at 25 minutes. Next time I’ll check earlier or cover with foil. Flavor was decent though.

    1. User avatar hollis.ward says:

      4 stars
Yeah, totally agree—25 minutes can be a little too long depending on thickness. Next time I’d start checking around 18-20 min and tent with foil if it’s browning fast. Did you bake all 4 breasts at the same thickness?

  39. User avatar Corrupted Shade says:

    5 stars
This was super simple! I love how quick it was to make. Will definitely make again.

  40. User avatar wilber.hegmann56 says:

    4 stars
One of those recipes that feels like cheating. I followed it though, and it actually tasted good. 10/10 for busy days.

  41. User avatar Terry Kautzer says:

    4 stars
Perfect for weeknights! I added some veggies on the side.

  42. User avatar gregg.raynor2003 says:

    5 stars
yummy!!! easy and fast to cook!! I’ll make it again!

  43. 2 stars
Real easy but too cheesy for me. I prefer less cheese.

  44. User avatar effie.moore24 says:

    4 stars
    Easy peasy chicken easy peasy.

  45. User avatar jonathan.ebert95 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about only 3 ingredients, but the Italian dressing + parmesan combo is legit. Next time I’ll add garlic powder because I like more flavor.

  46. User avatar daniel.rohan55 says:

    2 stars
I mean, it’s just chicken and dressing? Seems too simple to taste good. I’m not convinced. 🤔

    1. 4 stars
I thought the same thing until I tried it! Sometimes simple is best. Give it a shot! 😊

    2. 5 stars
Yeah, simple, but my grandma made chicken just like this, and it was bomb! You just gotta trust the process. 🙌

  47. 2 stars
Chicken was dry, I don’t know what I did wrong… I followed the recipe! 😩

  48. User avatar merlin.padberg1970 says:

    5 stars
Yummy! Definitely a keeper for busy nights. 🌟

  49. User avatar Nestor Pfannerstill says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious! I can’t believe how good it was for just three ingredients!

  50. User avatar foster.dooley says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and it was kinda bland? Maybe my Italian dressing wasn’t flavorful enough. Next time I’ll season the chicken a bit too.

    1. User avatar mathWizard says:

      4 stars
Totally get that—this recipe’s super minimal, so the Italian dressing really has to do the heavy lifting. I’ve found that using a more garlicky/spicy dressing (or adding a pinch of garlic powder/chili flakes) makes a big difference. If you season the chicken too next time, I’m sure it’ll be way better!

  51. User avatar Bowerick Wowbagger says:

    1 star
I’ve had chicken like this at a restaurant but my own turns out so bad. What am I doing wrong??

  52. User avatar kam.vandervort says:

    5 stars
Only 3 ingredients? I was skeptical at first, but it really works! Best chicken I’ve made.

  53. User avatar eleonora.muller says:

    2 stars
Are you serious? 3 ingredients and it’s baked? Totally not worth the effort. I expected better.

  54. User avatar jessie.cole58 says:

    1 star
Ugh, this was a fail! My chicken was raw inside. Thanks for wasting my dinner. 👎

  55. User avatar madalene.koepp says:

    1 star
Bland. Needs more spices! Maybe some Cajun seasoning or something spicy.

  56. User avatar joette.spinka says:

    2 stars
Why is everyone raving about this? It was okay, but really nothing special. I’ve had better.

  57. User avatar owen.fisher69 says:

    5 stars
Delicious! Didn’t believe three ingredients could taste so good. Really convenient and perfect for meal prepping. 👍

  58. 3 stars
1/4 cup Italian dressing for 4 breasts seems low? I used less than called for somehow and it still tasted ok, but it didn’t coat evenly like the instructions say.

  59. User avatar Humma Kavula says:

    4 stars
Mine needed closer to 30 minutes for full doneness (thicker breasts). Still tasty and low-effort though—just watch the temp.

    1. User avatar hans.grady says:

      2 stars
I followed it exactly and it came out kinda dry. Maybe my oven runs hot? Also the instructions say 20-25 min but that seems too short for chicken breasts.

    2. 5 stars
Good call—mine took closer to 30 minutes too (thicker breasts). I’d just trust the temp more than the clock. Still really tasty and way low-effort.

  60. User avatar derick.heller35 says:

    2 stars
I messed it up! 😂 I think I used too much dressing and the chicken turned out soggy. Gotta try again.

    1. 4 stars
Don’t worry! Happens to the best of us. Just try using less dressing next time, and it should be perfect! 😊

    2. User avatar tarra.kozey says:

      3 stars
Too much dressing? I thought more flavor was better! 😂 I’ll be careful not to drown it next time!

  61. User avatar bruno.langosh18 says:

    5 stars
This was super easy! My kids loved it and I loved how quick it was to make.

  62. 2 stars
I thought this recipe was kinda bland. Need more spices or something.

    1. 4 stars
I actually found it pretty tasty! Maybe try adding some garlic powder or paprika next time?

    2. 3 stars
Bland? I dunno, it was good for me. Just use more seasoning if that’s your thing.

  63. User avatar jeffrey.bechtelar79 says:

    3 stars
Mine was a bit dry at 25 minutes. Next time I’ll check earlier or cover loosely with foil so the top doesn’t get too browned.

  64. 3 stars
The cheese burned on mine. Guess I left it too long.

  65. 4 stars
Can u use ranch dressing instead? I don’t have italian dressing. I think it will still work, right?

  66. 2 stars
Only 20-25 min for 4 chicken breasts? That sounds too short… but I guess oven temps vary. Mine took longer.

  67. 4 stars
I didn’t have Italian dressing, used ranch instead. Still turned out great!

    1. User avatar delta.pagac says:

      4 stars
I think ranch is a bit weird for this, but if it worked for you, then good job! 😊

  68. 3 stars
wha? only 1/4 cup of dressing? I always dump more than that. chicken needs flavor!

    1. User avatar johnnie.mertz63 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! I usually add a lot more dressing too. Gotta make it flavorful! 😊

  69. 4 stars
This was so easy! I didn’t have parmesan so I used cheddar and it turned out delish!

    1. User avatar merrill.pouros says:

      5 stars
Sounds great! Cheddar is a nice twist! I’m gonna try this next time!

  70. User avatar lanny.stehr says:

I made this in a rush and it actually turned out perfect! I got no complaints from my husband.

  71. User avatar basementDweller says:

This was soooo easy! The chicken was super juicy and my kids loved it! Definitely making this again. 😍

  72. User avatar Tommy Gutkowski says:

Too simple! I added garlic and some veggies but still felt something was missing. It was just okay for me.

    1. User avatar caleb.weimann84 says:

      4 stars
I think it’s meant to be simple! Sometimes less is more, you know?

  74. User avatar Demon King Piccolo says:

So simple it almost feels like cheating—400°F and 25 minutes and you’ve got golden cheese chicken. My family went back for seconds.

  75. User avatar hobert.medhurst says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but this really works! The Italian dressing adds a nice zing. Will try again, but maybe with more cheese next time!

  76. User avatar lucius.osinski77 says:

    5 stars
The cheese got all gooey and tasty, loved it. This recipe is a keeper!

  77. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! I’m so glad your kids liked it. It’s great when you find something they enjoy!

  78. 4 stars
Three ingredients is my kind of recipe. I added a quick squeeze of lemon at the end and it brightened everything up. 10/10 for weeknights.

    1. User avatar gertha.murazik61 says:

      5 stars
Love this—three ingredients is basically my whole cooking strategy 😂 Lemon at the end sounds perfect though. Gonna try it next weeknight!

  79. 4 stars
Super simple and quick. I threw some veggies in too and it worked great.

  80. User avatar inez.lowe71 says:

    3 stars
The chicken was dry… Followed the recipe exactly. 😟

  81. User avatar maryanna.block says:

    1 star
Did not like it. The chicken tasted like cardboard. I’m stickin’ to my own recipes.

    1. User avatar elsy.konopelski2022 says:

      3 stars
Cardboard? That’s harsh! I loved it though, maybe you need a new recipe book?

    2. User avatar ahmad.heidenreich13 says:

      4 stars
I thought the same at first! Maybe try marinating the chicken longer? It can help to make it juicy!

  82. User avatar camila.erdman69 says:

    2 stars
It turned out really bland, I think I needed more spices.

    1. User avatar thora.greenfelder says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! I added garlic powder and some black pepper when I tried this, and it was way better. Baked chicken can end up flavorless if you don’t amp it up a bit!

    2. User avatar Barrett Hessel says:

      2 stars
Bland? No way! I thought it was perfect as is. Maybe next time add hot sauce or something? You might just be too picky for your own good!

  83. User avatar frederic.hoeger says:

    3 stars
Parmesan cheese I used was old, don’t know if that matters? 🤔

    1. 3 stars
Honestly, I think any cheese can work as long as it’s not spoiled. But fresh is always better! 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar terisa.doyle8 says:

      4 stars
Old cheese can change the flavor, but it might still work! Just make sure it’s not moldy. 😅

  84. User avatar adam.spinka28 says:

    4 stars
Italian dressing on chicken? Sounds kinda weird but I tried it. Turns out it’s actually flavorful. Not fancy, but good comfort food.

  85. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

    5 stars
Tried it tonight—came out juicy. I used a little extra parmesan just because, and it browned nicely in the time given.

    1. 3 stars
So it’s literally 3 ingredients? I tried something like this but mine was kinda dry, maybe my chicken was too thick. Did you cover it at all or just straight bake?

    2. 5 stars
Nice! Extra parm really is the move—glad it browned up so well. Juicy is the best outcome for these kinds of simple bakes.

  86. User avatar mariah.thiel says:

    3 stars
Ok but very salty w/ parm for me. Maybe less cheese next time. Served w/ rice and it was fine.

    1. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      5 stars
Totally hear you—Parm can be super salty. Next time I’ll do a lighter hand or mix in a bit of bread crumbs to stretch it.

  87. User avatar derrick.shields43 says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about only 3 ingredients, but I tried it anyway. Mine came out a little salty from the dressing + Parmesan, so I’d maybe use less parm next time.

  88. User avatar etta.senger46 says:

    3 stars
It was okay but I think it needed more flavor. Maybe add some garlic or herbs next time.

  89. 4 stars
Why is this called 3-ingredient when you actually need 4? Italian dressing is basically just oil and spices.

  90. User avatar brock.pagac53 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but it was a little too salty for my taste. Also I accidentally used lite dressing and the cheese didn’t brown as much.

    1. User avatar benito.marquardt39 says:

      3 stars
Hmm, mine always comes out salty too, but I’m also not sure if I followed it right. I think maybe 1/4 cup dressing is too much for 4 breasts? And lite dressing kinda doesn’t brown anything, I learned that the hard way. Still, it’s super easy.

    2. User avatar jenniffer.hoeger says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—Italian dressing can vary a lot in salt. Next time maybe use a low-sodium dressing or add a tiny rinse/less cheese. Also, if the cheese didn’t brown much, that lite dressing probably has less fat so it won’t help the Parm crisp up.

  91. User avatar Emerald Stone says:

This is basically chicken with dressing and cheese—nothing wrong with that, but I’d add garlic or some pepper next time to make it more exciting.

Why would you use dressing on chicken? I usually grill mine. This stuff is not for culinary experts.

I don’t think this is healthy. So much cheese!

  94. 5 stars
This was sooo easy to make! The chicken turned out juicy and flavorful. My kids loved it! Definitely a keeper! 😍

  95. 4 stars
The flavor is good, but my cheese didn’t really get “golden brown” until I broiled it for like 2 minutes. Still tasty though.

Meh, it was just okay. Needed more seasoning, maybe some herbs or spices. Not really impressed.

  97. 5 stars
5 stars for sure! I’ve never cooked chicken before and this made me feel like a pro!

  98. 2 stars
Chicken was dry for me, but maybe my oven runs hot. Also the cheese didn’t brown much. I’m gonna try foil first next time.

    1. 5 stars
Yeah, that sounds like it could be your oven running hot—20-25 min is a tight window for thicker breasts. Foil first might help keep it juicy, and then pull the foil for the last few minutes so the Parmesan can actually brown. I’d also suggest checking internal temp (165°F) and not going by time alone.

    Easy. Tasty. Done.

Italian dressing over raw chicken sounds kinda weird to me, but I tried it anyway. Turned out fine—my dog even watched me like I was doing surgery.

Yummy! But I reduced the baking time, 20 mins was enough for my thin chicken breasts.

This recipe is super easy! My kids love it, and it takes no time at all. I added some garlic too.

I tried this recipe with my kids too, and they loved it! But garlic? You sure that goes with Italian dressing?

Mine came out a little dry, maybe my chicken breasts were thicker. Still tasty though—crust was nice. Would recommend checking at 20 minutes.

  104. 3 stars
I tried this but the chicken was kinda dry. Maybe I cooked it too long? Not sure I’d make it again.

    1. 4 stars
Maybe try checking the oven temperature with a thermometer? I’ve had dry chicken too, but cooking time can be tricky. Good luck next time!

  105. 5 stars
Is this really all it takes? I didn’t believe it, but I tried it and wow, it worked!!!

    1. 5 stars
I’m so glad it worked for you! It’s amazing what simple ingredients can do. 😄

    2. 3 stars
I don’t know, seems too easy. Can chicken really taste good with just dressing and cheese? 🤔

I followed the directions exactly and it was bland. Like, “where’s the seasoning?” bland. Parmesan alone doesn’t save it if your dressing isn’t flavorful.

Too simple for my taste. Got no time for basic stuff. Where’s all the fancy flavors? 🤷‍♂️

Only 20-25 minutes?? My chicken was raw at 25, so I’m giving this 2 stars. Still, it tasted good once finished.

  109. 5 stars
The flavor is actually really good! I added a little garlic powder because I can’t help myself, but the original recipe was still solid. Easy weeknight meal.

3 ingredients??? No way! This is the best chicken I’ve ever made. So tasty!!

I can’t believe it either! Simplicity is the best! Thanks for sharing your experience!

3 ingredients? Seems too easy to be good. I might have to try it but I’m skeptical.

So easy! I mixed the dressing and parmesan a little more evenly and it came out super juicy. Definitely making this again on busy weeknights.

Easy and honestly pretty tasty. The Italian dressing plus parmesan makes the chicken come out flavorful without a bunch of extra steps.

Super easy and it actually tastes like you tried. The Parmesan gets nice and golden. I did 25 minutes and they came out juicy—will make again!

Leuk recept!

  122. 3 stars
This is like… too simple? I mean, where’s the garlic, seasoning, or anything? Still, it tasted okay. I guess simplicity wins sometimes.

    1. 5 stars
Honestly it’s simple for a reason—less work, still good. I add black pepper and maybe a pinch of paprika, but if you start piling on stuff it’s not really this recipe anymore. So yeah… simplicity wins 😄

    2. 4 stars
I get what you mean, but the Italian dressing + parmesan really does bring flavor. The baking also keeps it juicy. If you want more garlic, a little garlic powder in the cheese step would be an easy upgrade.
