Spinach Alfredo Pasta

April 23, 2025

Spinach Alfredo pasta is the ultimate comfort food. The creamy Alfredo sauce, with its rich blend of butter, cream, and Parmesan, wraps around each strand of pasta while the fresh spinach adds a burst of color, texture, and nutritional value. This dish is not only indulgent but also an easy way to incorporate more greens into your meal. It’s perfect for cozy dinners or any time you’re craving a rich, flavorful pasta.

To start, cook your favorite pasta until it’s al dente. Fettuccine is the traditional choice for Alfredo pasta, but penne, spaghetti, or rigatoni will work just as well. While the pasta is cooking, begin preparing the Alfredo sauce. In a large skillet, melt butter and sauté garlic until fragrant. Then, add heavy cream and bring it to a simmer. Stir in freshly grated Parmesan cheese, allowing it to melt into the cream to form a velvety sauce. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens to your liking, and then season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg for added depth.

Once the sauce is ready, add fresh spinach to the skillet. The heat from the sauce will wilt the spinach, turning it a deep green and releasing its natural juices, which blend beautifully with the creamy sauce. The spinach not only adds color and flavor but also a healthy dose of vitamins and iron. You can add more spinach if you like a bolder green flavor or keep it light with just a handful.

Once the pasta is cooked, drain it and toss it into the Alfredo sauce, making sure the noodles are well coated. The creamy sauce should cling to the pasta, creating a smooth, rich coating. If the sauce seems too thick, add a bit of pasta water to loosen it up and help the sauce adhere to the pasta. For an extra touch, sprinkle some grated Parmesan on top and a few cracks of black pepper.

Spinach Alfredo pasta is the kind of dish that’s as comforting as it is delicious. It’s rich and creamy but the addition of spinach balances the heaviness with freshness. Whether served as a main course or as a side dish, it’s sure to become a family favorite.

Uhh, I dunno. It came out kinda runny for me. Maybe too much cream? 😕

I think it might be the cream, but you could try addin’ more cheese next time! That makes it thicker! 🧀

I don’t know why people love this recipe. It was too rich for me, and I couldn’t taste the spinach at all! 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar Emmett Upton says:

I disagree! I thought the spinach was nice and balanced with the creaminess. It’s all about how you season it! 😊

This was amazing! The sauce was so creamy and the garlic flavor was just right. I will definitely be making this again! 👏

Made this for dinner, but I used penne instead of fettuccine. Still turned out good! Just saying, fettuccine isn’t the only pasta!!

  6. User avatar andrew.bergnaum41 says:

I don’t get why people love this dish so much. The spinach doesn’t belong in Alfredo! It’s just odd.

  7. User avatar joe_banana says:

I didn’t have fettuccine, so I used rice instead. It tasted okay…

I accidentally simmered the cream too hard and it separated a little. Still edible, but it wasn’t smooth like the recipe says. Learn from me 😅

    1. User avatar arnette.oberbrunner says:

      5 stars
Oof, that happens! If the cream boils too hard the fats can split—your note is super helpful. Next time maybe keep it at a gentle simmer and whisk/stir more often. 😅

    2. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      4 stars
Happened to me once too. I thought “simmer” meant like full bubbling lol. I’d try lower heat or add the Parmesan off the heat so it doesn’t break. Still tastes okay though!

Super easy to follow! I added some chicken and it was banging! 🐔👌

What if I don’t have Parmesan, can I use cheddar instead? Hmmm…

    1. User avatar rana.mills2006 says:

      3 stars
Cheddar is not the same as Parmesan, but I guess it’ll work. Just don’t expect it to taste the same!

    2. 4 stars
You can definitely use cheddar! It will change the flavor a bit, but still yummy!

Why do you put spinach in Alfredo? That ain’t right. Just stick to the classic, please.

Spinach adds some color and health! Don’t knock it till you try it. Classic is good, but variation is fun too!

Tasted funny. I think I accidentally used expired cheese. Lesson learned.

  22. User avatar Fenchurch says:

Yummy! But I think I used too much salt 😂 next time I’ll be careful.

  23. User avatar jacqueline.lynch6 says:

I followed it pretty closely but my sauce turned a little grainy. Maybe I should’ve grated the Parmesan finer or lowered the heat when melting it.

    1. User avatar juliet.fadel says:

      4 stars
Hmm I’ve had this happen too. Sometimes I swear it’s the Parmesan—like I used the pre-grated kind and it turns gross lol. Try turning the heat way down and add cheese slowly. Also don’t boil the cream too hard.

    2. User avatar marcell.lowe says:

      5 stars
That’s a good guess. Grainy Alfredo is usually from the cheese not melting smoothly—lowering the heat and grating Parmesan finer (or even tossing it in a little at a time) really helps. Medium-low simmer instead of a rolling simmer is key.

This recipe is super easy and so creamy! My kids loved it.

  25. User avatar Samwise Gamgee says:

    3 stars
I dunno, I think there should be more cheese than that, right? It’s Alfredo!

  26. User avatar sharla.mueller1958 says:

Good but the cream was too much. I think I prefer it with less cream, next time I’ll try that.

    1. User avatar Graig Hagenes says:

      2 stars
Less cream? That sounds weird. It’s alfredo, duh! You gotta have cream. 😜

    2. 4 stars
I actually loved the creaminess, but I guess everyone has their own taste. Good luck with your next try!

  27. User avatar Alia Atreides says:

I didn’t have Parmesan, so I used cheddar. Is that weird?

    1. User avatar tammara.wisozk says:
