Pumpkin Seed Spread

October 16, 2025

Pumpkin Seed Spread is a creamy, flavorful, and nutrient-rich alternative to traditional nut butters or dips. Made primarily from roasted pumpkin seeds, this spread captures the earthy essence of autumn in every bite. The seeds are naturally rich in flavor, giving the spread a satisfying nuttiness that pairs beautifully with both savory and slightly sweet ingredients. A drizzle of olive oil adds smoothness, while lemon juice brightens the taste, creating a perfectly balanced spread that feels both indulgent and wholesome.

What makes Pumpkin Seed Spread so special is its versatility. You can enjoy it in countless ways: slathered over warm toast for breakfast, served as a dip alongside crisp vegetables, or spooned over grilled chicken or roasted vegetables as a finishing touch. It also pairs wonderfully with crackers, pita chips, or as a base for sandwiches, adding depth and richness that elevate even the simplest meal. Its flavor has a natural warmth, slightly reminiscent of sunflower seeds but with a unique toasty aroma that makes it stand out.

Beyond its delicious taste, this spread is a powerhouse of nutrition. Pumpkin seeds are packed with plant-based protein, magnesium, iron, and healthy fats, making the spread a nourishing choice for anyone seeking a boost of energy. It’s also naturally gluten-free and vegan, which makes it a perfect addition to a variety of diets. The smooth consistency and subtle green hue give it an inviting, homemade appeal that feels both rustic and gourmet.

You can customize the flavor easily to suit your preferences. A touch of garlic or cumin can make it more savory, while a drizzle of honey brings out its mild sweetness. Fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro add freshness, while chili flakes create a spicy kick.

Pumpkin Seed Spread is proof that simple ingredients can create something truly special. Whether you’re hosting guests or preparing a quick snack, this earthy and creamy spread delivers comfort, flavor, and nutrition in every spoonful.

What is pumpkin seeds? Can I use walnuts instead? Asking for my mom.

    1. 4 stars
Pumpkin seeds are the seeds from pumpkins! They have a nutty flavor. Walnuts can work, but it won’t taste the same. Your mom might like it different, though!

    2. 3 stars
I dunno, walnuts might be too strong. Maybe try and find pumpkin seeds? They’re really good for you!

  7. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    2 stars
Uhhh, is there a reason to use olive oil? Can I use vegetable or some other oil?

    1. User avatar david.lakin says:

      4 stars
Oh no, too sour is the worst! You could try adding more pumpkin seeds or a bit of honey to balance it out.

Too much garlic for my taste! Maybe just use half? Also, didn’t turn out smooth.

    1. User avatar garth.krajcik1976 says:

      4 stars
I actually love garlic, but I get it! Everyone has their own preferences. Maybe try adding something else for flavor if you cut back on the garlic?

    2. User avatar yulanda.rau55 says:

      3 stars
Half a clove? That won’t even be garlic! Just blend it better, it’ll be smoother. More practice needed!

  22. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    2 stars
Why use pumpkin seeds? Just stick to regular nuts. This seems too fancy for my liking.

  23. User avatar rosalva.upton78 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but this turned out really nice. Just don’t add too much salt!

I’m glad it worked out for you! I was worried about the salt too. Thanks for the tip!

    2. 3 stars

    2. User avatar arthur.cartwright17 says:

      3 stars
This was not fast for me. I think my food processor is a bit slow. But it did taste good!

  35. User avatar roosevelt.bartell52 says:

    2 stars
No thanks. Maybe good for vegans but not for me. I want meat!

    1. User avatar diedra.gleichner4 says:

      4 stars
But you should try it! It’s actually super tasty even without meat.

  36. 2 stars
I used lime instead of lemon and it was… fine? Like, not bad, but the bright tang was missing. Lemon juice really matters here.

  37. 3 stars
Nice idea, but mine turned out a bit too chunky. Maybe I blended it wrong?

    1. 4 stars
I think blending it longer might help! You want it really smooth. Don’t give up, it’s a great recipe!

    2. User avatar linwood.wolff51 says:

      3 stars
Maybe you need more water? I use like, double sometimes. Just don’t overdo it, or it’ll be too runny.

  38. 2 stars
Eh, it was alright. I thought the garlic was too strong and my kids refused to even try it.

    1. User avatar josiah.daniel says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! Garlic can be really pungent sometimes. Maybe try using less next time?

    2. User avatar hank.halvorson77 says:

      3 stars
Kids can be picky, just like mine! But I thought it was pretty tasty. Maybe they just weren’t in the mood for something new.

  39. User avatar rey.hartmann73 says:

    2 stars
Not as good as peanut butter. Sorry, but I’ll stick to my usual.

  40. User avatar jennie.witting says:

    4 stars
Delicious and healthy! Who knew pumpkin seeds could be so tasty?

    5 stars
Tastes great! I added some chili flakes for a kick.

    4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but this turned out better than I thought! Perfect for sandwiches.

  43. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    1 star
Why would you use pumpkins seeds when you can just use peanut butter? Seems silly to me. 🤷‍♂️

  44. User avatar gaston.wilkinson says:

    2 stars
It was okay, tasted kinda bland to me. Might add more garlic next time.

  45. User avatar Justin Wintheiser says:

    4 stars
This tastes like pesto’s weirder cousin 😂 but I mean that in a good way. Great with veggies and crackers.

  46. User avatar carroll.goyette1960 says:

    3 stars
Pretty strong garlic flavor. Next time I’ll use half a clove or roast the garlic first. Still a solid recipe.

    1. 4 stars
I thought it was supposed to be super garlicky 😅 Maybe use less, or add more lemon to balance? Not sure though—mine came out kind of thick until I added extra water.

    2. User avatar mickie.abernathy1980 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—the garlic can be punchy with this one. Roasting it first really mellows it out. Glad it still turned out solid for you!

  47. 4 stars
Pumpkin seeds? Really? Sounds weird, but I tried it and my kids loved it!

    1. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

      4 stars
I’m surprised the kids liked it! I thought it would taste too nutty or strange. Might give it a go for snacks.

    2. User avatar wiley.reynolds2023 says:

      2 stars
Pumpkin seeds? Ew, not for me. But if your kids liked it, maybe I should try sometin different for mine.

  48. User avatar roxana.schuppe1983 says:

    5 stars
I don’t know if my blender will do it, but I’ll try. If it fails I’m still eating it with a spoon.

  49. User avatar cecelia.anderson says:

    2 stars
Way too garlicky for my taste. I might try it again with less garlic.

  50. User avatar jessie.hoeger1964 says:

    4 stars
I loved the garlic flavor! But my husband said it was too strong. Just be careful with amounts!

  51. User avatar lucio.kreiger says:

    4 stars
Tried this with toasted pumpkin seeds and it’s lovely!

  52. User avatar eric.muller68 says:

    3 stars
It was good but can anyone tell me what to pair it with? I felt it was missing something.

  53. User avatar ivory.rosenbaum1965 says:

    2 stars
I tried this recipe but used sunflower seeds instead of pumpkin. It turned out terrible! Guess I should’ve followed the recipe. Lol.

  54. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    1 star
Pumpkin seeds? Who eats those? Never again, no taste at all!

  55. User avatar toney.hamill says:

    2 stars
I added too much water and it became runny—also the salt went in late and I think I overdid pepper. Lesson learned: go slow and taste.

  56. User avatar pierre.ryan89 says:

    5 stars
This spread is amazing! I didn’t think pumpkin seeds could taste so good!

    1. User avatar ron.cummerata39 says:

Really? Pumpkin seeds? I expected them to be all crunchy and stuff? Not sure about that….

  57. User avatar mathWizard says:

    4 stars
Made it exactly as written and it came out super thick at first. The extra water helped a lot, but I think I’d start with 1–2 tbsp next time.

  58. User avatar iluminada.moore17 says:

    3 stars
Eh, it’s just okay. I’ve had better spreads. Just saying.

  59. User avatar isabella.veum86 says:

This spread was surprisingly good! I was skeptical at first, but it was super easy to make and delicious on toast. Definitely a 5-star for me!

  60. User avatar Vroomfondel says:

    3 stars
I loved the idea, but my garlic taste was way too strong. Next time I’ll use half a clove or roast it first.

Dis is sumgood stuff!!! I liked it a lot! And ez to make.

  62. User avatar teresita.kihn19 says:

    4 stars
Wait… pumpkin seeds blended smooth is a real thing? I’m skeptical but I tried it. It’s actually pretty awesome on toast.

    1. User avatar carlos.grimes17 says:

      5 stars
Right?! I was skeptical too, but blended pumpkin seeds are super creamy—almost like a greenish pesto vibe. Toast + lemon + garlic is a win.

    2. User avatar edyth.corkery50 says:

      3 stars
Wait—pumpkin seeds on toast? Sounds kinda healthy but also like it could taste bitter. Maybe I’ll try it, but I’d add more oil… or less garlic. lol

  63. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, mine tasted a little bland even with salt. Maybe my lemons were weak. Still ate it though 😅

  64. User avatar tim.kertzmann17 says:

    5 stars
This is surprisingly good—rich and garlicky without being too heavy. I added a pinch of smoked paprika and it totally leveled it up.

    1. User avatar donald.farrell1962 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I did basically the same thing and it’s crazy how “fancy” it tastes for how quick it is. Smoked paprika sounds perfect.

    2. User avatar mohamed.walter says:

      2 stars
I’m not convinced it’ll be smooth unless you soak the pumpkin seeds first? I tried once and it was kind of gritty even after blending. Maybe I didn’t add enough water.

  65. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    3 stars
I ain’t never made a spread before. Kinda confused by blending but it worked out fine. Not bad, not great.

  66. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

Yummm! Love this! Gonna eat it with toast every day now.

  67. User avatar mickey.funk1989 says:

Wasn’t sure about this recipe, but surprisingly delicious! Will make again!

  68. User avatar jamal.kuhic13 says:

I forgot to scrape down the sides and it turned out grainy. Lesson learned: scrape! Flavor was still good.

  69. User avatar walker.rogahn1976 says:

    1 star
Pumpkin seeds? Do they even have flavor? I think it would be better with peanut butter instead!

  70. User avatar rudy.miller79 says:

This spread was delicious! I added some herbs and it was a hit at the party!

  71. User avatar bettye.lynch17 says:

    4 stars
Wow, I can’t believe how easy this was. I used it on a sandwich and it was perfect. Will make again!

  72. User avatar hassan.goyette says:

    3 stars
Couldn’t get it super smooth—my food processor is kinda weak. Still delicious, just more like a chunky dip. Might be user error (probably).

  73. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

    2 stars
I thought this would be a dessert. lol It’s a savory spread!

  74. User avatar Nathan Wehner says:

    3 stars
It was ok, but a bit bland for my taste. I added some chili flakes and it was nice. Maybe more seasoning next time?

  75. User avatar seymour.johnston43 says:

    3 stars
I like it but my kids won’t touch it. Guess they’re picky. **rolls eyes**

  76. 4 stars
1 cup pumpkin seeds feels like a lot for one spread. I ended up with way more than expected, but it’ll be fine—maybe I’ll portion it next time.

  77. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

    5 stars
Texture was perfect—like a thicker hummus. I used it as a sandwich spread and it didn’t separate after a day in the fridge.

  78. 5 stars
Honestly, this is healthier than peanut butter and tastes better. My kids devoured it, which never happens.

  79. User avatar chantay.boehm68 says:

    4 stars
Tried it without measuring the water and mine turned out a bit thick, but adding a teaspoon more helped a lot. Tasty though!

    1. User avatar Restless Draugr says:

      4 stars
Wait you didn’t measure the water?? 😅 I feel like it’s always different with the seeds. I’d probably start with way less—like 1/4 tsp—then blend. Still, sounds yummy!

    2. User avatar Torchbugs says:

      5 stars
Good to know! I always struggle with getting the right thickness—adding water gradually makes sense. Glad it turned out tasty!

  80. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about blending seeds into something “spread-like,” but wow—surprisingly good. I’m using it on toast and in wraps.
