Peppermint Ice Cream Pie

November 4, 2025

Peppermint Ice Cream Pie is a festive dessert that brings a burst of cool, minty sweetness to any celebration. With its creamy texture, crunchy crust, and bright peppermint flavor, it’s the kind of treat that instantly puts everyone in a cheerful mood. Whether served at a holiday dinner or as a refreshing finish to a winter meal, this pie feels both nostalgic and exciting.

The base begins with a chocolate cookie crust, buttery and crumbly, creating the perfect contrast to the smooth ice cream filling. You can make it from crushed chocolate wafers or Oreos, pressed into a pie dish and chilled until firm. This dark, rich foundation pairs beautifully with the cool peppermint that comes next.

The filling is made with softened peppermint ice cream, stirred until creamy and spread evenly into the chilled crust. For extra indulgence, fold in crushed candy canes or peppermint candies before freezing. Their crunch adds a delightful surprise in every bite, while streaks of pink and red give the pie a festive look. After a few hours in the freezer, it firms up into the perfect sliceable texture.

To finish, top the pie with whipped cream and a sprinkle of crushed peppermint. For an elegant touch, drizzle melted chocolate or add chocolate curls on top. The contrast of mint and chocolate creates that timeless holiday pairing everyone loves.

What makes Peppermint Ice Cream Pie so wonderful is how simple it is to prepare. It looks impressive, yet requires no baking, and can be made days in advance. That makes it ideal for busy holiday gatherings when you want something beautiful and effortless.

When served, each slice is a burst of creamy peppermint perfection – sweet, refreshing, and just a little bit nostalgic. Pair it with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee for the ultimate winter dessert experience. Peppermint Ice Cream Pie is a cool, cheerful delight that captures the spirit of the season in every frosty bite.

So easy to make and super delicious! I’m not even a fan of mint, but this pie is just fantastic!

  2. User avatar leonie.larkin2 says:

I tried this and it was alright, but the peppermint flavor was kinda overwhelming for me. Maybe I’ll try vanilla ice cream next time.

    1. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

      4 stars
I personally love the intense peppermint flavor! But I guess it can be a bit much for some. Vanilla ice cream sounds like a good alternative.

    2. 3 stars
What? Peppermint too strong? I never heard of that. It’s supposed to be festive and refreshing! Maybe just try a little less next time.

  3. User avatar brett.schmitt says:

    4 stars
Just a tip, if u make it before the day u want to serve, it tastes even better after sitting in the freezer.

    Ice cream pie! 😍

  6. User avatar kayleen.kris33 says:

    3 stars
Decent, but I honestly thought it could use a little more sweetness. Maybe next time I’ll mix in some chocolate syrup.

    1. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta says:

      4 stars
I think chocolate syrup sounds like a yummy idea! A little extra sweetness never hurts. 😋

I messed up the crust and burnt it… 😢 Didn’t turn out well at all. Don’t know if I’ll try this again.

Yum! Perfect dessert for Christmas gatherings. I added chocolate chips on top of the whipped cream too.

Okay, seriously, who eats peppermint in december only? This recipe sounds off, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

    1. 5 stars
Peppermint is good anytime! Just because it’s December doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it all year round. This pie sounds delicious!

  10. 5 stars
Yum, yum! My wife loved it too! I did add chocolate sauce on top too, tastes even better!

    1. User avatar gerald.purdy15 says:

Chocolate sauce sounds like a great idea! I’ll try that next time! 😊

This is such a fun holiday-style dessert. The peppermint candies make it look fancy, and the whole thing is basically hands-off once it’s in the freezer.

    1. 5 stars
Sounds amazing! I wanna try it for my next gathering. 🤤

    2. 3 stars
Really? Only 3 hours? I feel like it would need longer to freeze right. 🤔

  13. User avatar linnea.zieme84 says:

Wot no bake? This recipe too easy. I’m not convinced.

  14. User avatar lilli.corkery96 says:

I know right?! This pie looks sooo tempting, I could definitely finish it all by myself! 😋

  18. 3 stars
Wait, isn’t peppermint for candy canes? Not sure if I trust this combo.

  19. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    5 stars
This is such a fun holiday vibe—minty, creamy, and the peppermint candy crunch makes it feel special. Super easy too.

  20. 3 stars
I tried making this but Ice cream melted before I’d even put it in the crust! What’s the secret?

  21. User avatar libby.daniel20 says:

    5 stars
I tried homemade crust this time and it still worked, though it took forever to prep. The result was really rich and refreshing—probably the best mint dessert I’ve made.

    1. User avatar reed.kris58 says:

      5 stars
That sounds dangerously good 😄 I love how simple the steps are—though I’m sure the prep time feels like forever. Do you crush the peppermint candies yourself or buy them already crushed?

  22. User avatar Celesta Goyette says:

    2 stars
Too sweet for me! I can barely have one slice without feeling sick. Maybe use less ice cream next time.

  23. User avatar fidel.rolfson says:

    5 stars
    Yum! So good!!🍦🍬

  24. 5 stars
This pie is amazing! Made it for my family and they loved it. So refreshing!

  25. User avatar buford.christiansen says:

    1 star
Honestly, who puts mint in pie? Sounds weird to me. Doesn’t even sound good.

  26. User avatar kesha.hegmann says:

    4 stars
Uh, not bad, but the whipped cream melted too fast. Any tips?

    1. User avatar karol.mitchell says:

      4 stars
Maybe try putting the whipped cream in the freezer for a bit before using it? That could help!

  27. 3 stars
Wait… “1 unit pie crust chocolate”? I used a pre-made chocolate cookie crust and it was fine, but the wording confused me.

  28. User avatar Spider Guardian says:

    1 star
Too sweet!! I couldn’t handle the sugar rush! Must have less candy next time.

    1. 4 stars
I totally get you! I thought it was a bit too sweet too. Maybe try using less candies next time?

  29. User avatar fred.damore68 says:

    5 stars
Yum! Just yum! I could eat this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

  30. 4 stars
Whipped cream right before serving is key—otherwise it melts into the ice cream. I learned that the hard way. Flavor is still great!

  31. 2 stars
I’m skeptical about using pre-made pie crust with peppermint. Like, will it get soggy? Mine did a little, but maybe I didn’t freeze long enough.

    1. User avatar refugia.emmerich64 says:

      5 stars
I totally get that worry. I’ve used pre-made crusts before and the key is really freezing it long enough—like closer to 4 hours. If it’s even a little soft when it goes into the freezer, it can get soggy.

    2. 3 stars
Mine was soggy too 😅 I thought freezing 3 hours was plenty but maybe not. Next time I’ll chill the crust first or wrap it better. Also the peppermint candies might melt a bit if you wait too long before slicing.

  32. User avatar loreen.hills76 says:

    2 stars
I tried it but the ice cream was too soft when I put it in the crust. Is it supposed to be melted? Didn’t turn out right.

  33. 3 stars
Eh, I mean it was okay but could use more flavor. The chocolate crust was alright, but the ice cream wasn’t as minty as I expected.

  34. 4 stars
Easiest recipe ever! I’m not a baker but even I could pull this off! 😊

  35. User avatar maryetta.carroll79 says:

    4 stars
Made this and it was a hit at the party! So refreshing and sweet! I might add a bit of chocolate drizzle next time.

  36. User avatar dawn.hilpert says:

    2 stars
Who uses peppermint????? Chocolate or vanilla should be the only options for ice cream pies!

    1. 4 stars
But peppermint ice cream is amazing! It adds a nice twist, you know?

    2. User avatar Schule Donavitch says:

      2 stars
Who would even use peppermint other than at Christmas? Just stick to chocolate and vanilla, please!

  37. User avatar gidget.cremin says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty much exactly, but my pie didn’t soften the ice cream enough before spreading, so I got little lumps. Still tasted great though—next time I’ll let it sit longer.

  38. User avatar rodger.mcclure says:

    5 stars
This pie is amazing! So refreshing and easy to make. I’ve made it twice this month already!

  39. 3 stars
Lol, I thought it was gonna be spicy or something. Still, I made it and it’s alright!

  40. 3 stars
The taste is alright, but it melted too fast! Should’ve kept it in the freezer longer.

  41. 5 stars
Peppermint and chocolate are the best combo! 🍫🍬

  42. User avatar Draugr Death Overlord says:

    2 stars
My kid said it tasted like toothpaste!!! Yikes! Not sure I’d make this again.

  43. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical of using pre-made crust. Like will the chocolate flavor get overwhelmed? Surprisingly it didn’t. Actually, the peppermint ice cream carries it, so it works.

  44. User avatar Storm Atronach says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously easy—soften, spread, freeze, done. The peppermint + chocolate crust combo is perfect for the holidays. Mine set in about 3.5 hours and sliced really clean.

  45. User avatar Guy Heidenreich says:

    3 stars
I think the chocolate crust is a bit too rich for the mint flavor. Maybe a graham cracker crust would work better?

  46. User avatar danilo.greenfelder says:

    3 stars
I only gave 3 stars because the peppermint candies were way too hard to crush without making a mess. Maybe I’m just doing it wrong, but a food processor would help.

    1. 4 stars
I feel you—those peppermint candies can be stubborn. Next time try putting them in a zip bag and using a rolling pin, then do a quick pulse with the processor. Less mess that way.

  47. User avatar billie.toy54 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical at first. How can you put ice cream in a pie? But wow, it surprisingly worked! Nice recipe.

    1. 5 stars
I’m glad to hear that! It does sound weird at first, but it’s so refreshing. I love this recipe!

  48. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

    2 stars
Idk. Ice cream pie feels kinda… lazy? Like why not just eat the ice cream. But to be fair, it’s cute and the crust makes it feel fancy.

    1. User avatar donte.nienow80 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean, but sometimes “lazy” just means no-bake fun 😄 The crust + peppermint makes it feel way more special than plain ice cream.

  49. User avatar boyd.west19 says:

    3 stars
Not sure about the “slice and serve immediately” part—mine melted fast and looked messy. Flavor is nice, but next time I’ll chill the plate first or do a quicker garnish situation.

  50. User avatar Sammie Jast says:

    3 stars
This is basically ice cream in a crust with toppings—respectfully, it’s not really cooking. But it does taste like the holidays, so I’ll forgive it.

  51. User avatar Myrl Rodriguez MD says:

    3 stars
Sounds good but how many calories does it have? Trying to eat healthy here…

    1. User avatar tony.kerluke says:

      4 stars
You might want to check the specific brand of ice cream you use, but it’s probably not super low-cal. This looks delicious though!

  52. User avatar tonda.shields91 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but mine was super hard to slice. I think I froze it a bit too long and didn’t soften the ice cream enough. Still delicious though.

  53. User avatar rhona.stamm22 says:

    2 stars
Peppermint + ice cream + crust = sure, but why does it need 3 hours? I tried rushing it and it totally slumped. Patience is key I guess.

  54. User avatar Mrs. Dillon Altenwerth says:

    3 stars
I don’t really like peppermint, so it wasn’t for me. My kids liked it tho, so maybe I’ll just make it for them next time.

  55. 2 stars
I only had vanilla ice cream, so I tried it anyway with peppermint candies mixed in. It was… okay? I guess peppermint pie needs actual peppermint.

  56. User avatar Piter De Vries says:

    5 stars
This sounds dangerously easy. The peppermint + chocolate crust combo is legit—like an after-dinner treat without the fuss.

    1. User avatar tad.abernathy says:

      5 stars
Right?! I was skeptical too, but the peppermint + chocolate combo is one of those “works every time” pairings. After-dinner dessert in basically zero effort.

    2. User avatar cherri.stamm85 says:

      3 stars
I mean… easy, yes, but it might get melty fast if your ice cream was too soft. Also why do we need to freeze it 3 hours—couldn’t like 45 min be enough? Idk I’ll try though 😅

  57. User avatar emile.kunze86 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the whole peppermint thing. My kids didn’t like it. Maybe vanilla would be better?

    1. User avatar dillon.ryan84 says:

      2 stars
Nah! Peppermint is great! Kids just gotta get used to it. U could try less peppermint next time.

    2. User avatar janene.pollich99 says:

      4 stars
I totally get it! Peppermint can be hit or miss with kids. Vanilla might be a safer choice. Maybe try adding some chocolate chips too!

  58. 5 stars
This recipe is a game-changer! My family loved it and it was super easy to make. Will definitely make again!

  59. User avatar son.adams1977 says:

    2 stars
To be honest, I thought it was gonna be way better. Didn’t really taste the peppermint too much. Might add more next time.

    1. User avatar erich.dickens9 says:

      4 stars
I hear you! It could use a bit more minty flavor. Maybe try mixing in some peppermint extract next time?

    2. User avatar nina.mitchell says:

      3 stars
I thought it tasted great, but everyone has different taste buds I guess. Did you let it freeze long enough?

  60. 5 stars
The instructions are super straightforward. I love that it’s basically no-bake. I used store-bought peppermint candies and it gave it a nice crunch.

  61. 4 stars
3 hours is fine if your freezer is cold, but mine runs warm and it took like 5 hours. Not a big problem, just plan ahead.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—mine always takes longer too. Our freezer is kinda warm, so I just plan on 4–5 hours and it comes out perfectly firm.

    2. User avatar ashly.reichert58 says:

      4 stars
Hmm 3 hours seems optimistic. I’d say if it’s not firm, keep freezing—don’t slice too early or it’ll be mushy. (Also I used regular ice cream once… 0/10 😅)

  62. User avatar Brand-shei says:

    4 stars
Super easy! I didn’t have cream so I skipped that and it’s still yum. Next time I’ll use more candies!

  63. User avatar mark.frami1954 says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly but forgot to crush the candies smaller. They were kinda crunchy and got stuck in my teeth lol. Still fun though.

  64. User avatar jack.walsh says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty much and it set great after the 3 hours. Next time I’ll use a little more crushed peppermint for extra crunch.

  65. User avatar danika.conroy1982 says:

    5 stars
This is sooo good! My family loved it! Perfect for holidays!

  66. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

    4 stars
I think 1 quart is a lot? I had some leftover and my pie layer was thicker than the pic. Still tasty though, just note the crust size matters.

    1. User avatar Joe Witting says:

      5 stars
Yeah I agree—1 quart can be plenty depending on how big your crust is. If your crust is smaller or the layer is thicker, it’ll set differently (still good though!).

  67. User avatar emmitt.ortiz1974 says:

    3 stars
3 hours in the freezer feels a bit optimistic. Mine was still soft in the center, so I had to leave it longer. Still tasty though!

    1. User avatar heike.quigley77 says:

      3 stars
Mine was hard after like 3 hours… maybe you used a warmer freezer? Or you didn’t spread it evenly? Either way peppermint pie is always good lol. Next time leave it overnight?

    2. 5 stars
Ugh yeah, freezer temps vary so much. I also go past the 3-hour mark—usually closer to 4–5 until it slices clean. Glad it still tasted good though!

  68. User avatar garth.fritsch1999 says:

    5 stars
So easy! My kids helped crush the candy and they loved it. 10/10 would make again. Wow.

    1. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

      5 stars
Haha “wow” is right 😄 I tried this last weekend—so much easier than baking anything. I love how the crushed peppermint gives it that real holiday punch.

    2. User avatar joe_banana says:

      4 stars
Not gonna lie, 3 hours feels kinda short for me. I usually freeze longer or it melts fast when I slice. Still tastes really good tho!

  69. User avatar enedina.abbott2004 says:

    4 stars
“Slice and serve immediately” is true—if you let it sit, it turns into a sad puddle. Delicious though when timed right.

    1. User avatar janene.thiel2020 says:

      3 stars
I followed it but mine turned into like, a sad puddle anyway 😅 Maybe my pie crust was too warm or my ice cream was too soft. Still tasted good though—just not pretty. Next time I’ll freeze longer.

    2. 5 stars
Yes!! We did exactly that—let it thaw 5 mins max, slice, and it was perfect. If it sits, the texture gets kinda melty/loose. Love the peppermint crunch on top.

  70. User avatar karon.kuhlman79 says:

    3 stars
Not sure about “slice and serve immediately” — if you slice it too soon the ice cream melts fast. I’d chill it longer and then serve once cut.

  71. User avatar jerome.feest21 says:

    5 stars
I made it with store-bought crust and it set perfectly after about 3.5 hours. Topping it right before serving helps a lot. Tastes like a fancy takeout ice cream pie.

  72. 4 stars
I’m not sure about using a chocolate crust with peppermint ice cream. It sounds weird but actually it works—kind of like an after-dinner mint. Would make again.

  73. User avatar prairie dog says:

    4 stars
Easy peasy, like no-bake but still feels fancy. I used store-bought crust and it turned out great. Next time I’ll soften the ice cream just a bit more so it spreads evenly.

    1. User avatar Glorfindel says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome—store-bought crust is honestly the cheat code. I always forget to soften just a little more though 😅

  74. User avatar domonique.robel says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I wish the instructions said how thick to spread it. Mine ended up a little uneven, and the first slice was messier than I expected.

  75. 3 stars
Honestly, it’s just ice cream in a crust. Wouldn’t call it a “pie” upgrade, but it’s easy. For a last-minute dessert it’s solid.

  76. User avatar Margot Fenring says:

    3 stars
Mine got rock solid after 3 hours and slicing was a nightmare. Maybe my freezer is too cold or I didn’t soften enough before spreading. Tasted good, but not the prettiest.

  77. User avatar kasi.batz1967 says:

    4 stars
I made it with store-bought chocolate crust and it still came out great. The only thing I’d change is freezing it a bit longer so it slices cleaner.

    1. User avatar neville.stokes62 says:

      3 stars
Hmm I tried something like this once and it just turned into a melty mess. Maybe I didn’t freeze long enough? 3 hours doesn’t seem like it—do you mean overnight?

    2. 5 stars
That’s awesome! I love hearing it works with store-bought crust—makes it way easier. Freezing longer for cleaner slices is such a good tweak. 😊

  78. User avatar martin.hermiston26 says:

    5 stars
This is such a fun, simple dessert. The peppermint + chocolate crust combo is basically Christmas in pie form. I’ll probably add a little extra peppermint on top because why not.

  79. 3 stars
I followed the steps and it tasted good, but my pie cracked when I sliced it. Maybe I didn’t soften the ice cream enough?

    1. 5 stars
I think you’re right—if the ice cream wasn’t softened enough, it’ll be more like little hard chunks and the top cracks when you cut it. Next time soften it just until spreadable (like frosting), not melted.

    2. 4 stars
Hmm, cracking usually happens when it’s too firm right when you slice it. I’d try freezing a full 3 hours, then let it sit 5–10 minutes at room temp before slicing so it cuts clean.

  80. 2 stars
Whipped cream melted fast for me. I should’ve kept it colder. Also, the crushed candies were kinda hard to sprinkle without making a mess.

I made it with store-bought chocolate crust and it turned out really creamy. I only needed about 3 hours—maybe my freezer runs cold though.

Made this last weekend—so minty and creamy. The chocolate crust + peppermint is a perfect combo. I let it freeze closer to 4 hours and it sliced way cleaner.

So good! The contrast of chocolate crust and peppermint ice cream is perfect. Will definitely make again.

I don’t really like peppermint, but my family does. I tried a bite and it wasn’t awful; whipped cream helped. Still, too minty overall for me.

Totally get it—peppermint can be *so* strong. The whipped cream trick makes a huge difference though. Did you try cutting the candy garnish a little less next time?

I love peppermint, but I don’t think chocolate crust works. It tastes like toothpaste and cookies… maybe use a graham cracker crust instead? Idk, I’m picky lol.

lol peppermint candies on top is cute but my kid said it was too minty… I guess some people just hate mint. Would make again maybe.

Aw, that’s pretty fair—peppermint can be *super* intense. Maybe use half the candies next time or crush them a bit finer so it’s more evenly spread. I think your idea sounds great.

Peppermint + chocolate is good but “too minty” is a thing, yeah. I’d swap in chocolate chips or just skip the peppermint garnish altogether. Also pie crust chocolate? That sounds kinda weird lol but maybe it works.

3 hours feels a little short—mine was still kinda soft after. I ended up waiting closer to 5 hours and it worked much better.

Not gonna lie, the peppermint candies were a bit too strong for me. Next time I’ll use less or crush them finer.
