Olive Puffs

December 11, 2024

Olive puffs are a delightful, savory treat that’s perfect for any gathering or snack craving. These little bites are made with buttery, flaky puff pastry wrapped around tangy olives, offering a satisfying combination of textures and flavors. Whether served as appetizers at a party, a fun addition to a tapas spread, or just enjoyed with a glass of wine, olive puffs are sure to impress.

The key to making delicious olive puffs lies in the simplicity of the ingredients. Puff pastry is the base, providing a crisp, golden exterior that pairs wonderfully with the tender, briny olives inside. You can use green or black olives, depending on your personal preference. Stuffing the olives with a bit of cheese, such as feta or cream cheese, adds richness and enhances the flavor, making each bite even more irresistible.

To make these savory puffs, start by rolling out the puff pastry and cutting it into small squares or rectangles. Place an olive (or a stuffed olive) in the center of each square and fold the pastry over to create a little pocket. You can seal the edges with a fork or simply press them together to ensure they stay closed during baking. Brush each puff with an egg wash for a golden, shiny finish.

Once baked, the result is a crispy, flaky bite with the tangy punch of the olive inside. The buttery pastry creates a perfect balance with the saltiness of the olives, making for a snack that’s both satisfying and full of flavor.

Olive puffs are incredibly versatile and can be adapted to suit your taste. You can experiment with different types of olives, add herbs like rosemary or thyme, or even include a small slice of ham or prosciutto for an added savory touch. They can be served warm or at room temperature, making them a convenient option for any occasion.

These olive puffs are quick and easy to make, requiring just a few simple ingredients, and they always look and taste impressive. Whether you’re hosting a party or looking for a delicious snack, these savory bites are a must-try!

I don’t get why people love olives so much. Tried these and just wasn’t for me. Too salty maybe?

  3. 3 stars
Easy recipe but can you use other stuff besides olives? My kids dont like olives 🙁

  4. 1 star
Olives? Yuck! Not sure why anyone would want to wrap pastries around them. No thanks.

Super simple recipe but I feel like something is missing. Maybe cheese would make it better?

Olives and pastry are good, but who’s got 400° on an oven? I put em on 350 like always, and they burnt. Ugh…

  18. 2 stars
How do you roll the dough? Mine was falling apart. Help!

I just used a different type of savory filling instead of olives. Still came out fantastic! 😋

  23. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

I followed the steps but mine leaked a bit—maybe I didn’t pinch tight enough. The flavor is great though, just messier than yours.

    Delicious! 😍

    1. 5 stars
I can’t wait to try these! They sound amazing! 🤤

  25. 2 stars
200°C feels a bit high for puff pastry—mine browned too quickly on the edges before the middle looked done. I’d lower temp to 190°C next time.

    1. User avatar Piter De Vries says:

      3 stars
I think 200°C is fine 🤷‍♂️ Mine always turn out crisp—maybe your oven runs hot? I’d try an oven thermometer before changing the recipe.

    2. 5 stars
Oh same! I did 200°C once and the tops were super dark while the middle was still kinda pale. Dropping to 190°C totally makes sense.

  26. 4 stars
Is there a vegan version? I can’t eat eggs.

    1. User avatar arlie.wyman says:

      5 stars
You could use aquafaba instead of eggs! It works great as a binding agent. 😊

    2. 2 stars
I don’t think you can make it without eggs… It’s called Olive Puffs for a reason, right? 🤔

  27. User avatar donnie.gutkowski1959 says:

Just made these and it’s a disaster! Pastry didn’t cook right. What did I do wrong?

    1. User avatar usha.jenkins68 says:

      4 stars
It sounds like the pastry might not have been rolled out thin enough or maybe the oven wasn’t hot enough. Don’t get discouraged!

  28. 5 stars
These are so easy to make and absolutely delicious! My friends devoured them at the party. Will definitely make again!

    1. User avatar george.marvin95 says:

      5 stars
Absolutely! Never give up. The more you practice, the better you’ll get! Your puffs sound delicious!

  35. User avatar holley.schroeder says:

    3 stars
I think I messed up somehow. My puffs turned out soggy… Any tips?

  36. 2 stars
Can you even call this a recipe? It’s just wrapping olives in pastry. Meh.

  37. User avatar fernando.stracke2014 says:

    3 stars
I dunno, they didn’t come out like the picture. Maybe I did something wrong? Smh.

  38. 2 stars
Not feeling it tbh. The olives just tasted weird with the pastry.

  39. 2 stars
    Only 12 pieces? I can’t even fit 12 in my household—needs like 40 lol.

    1. 5 stars
Haha I feel you—these disappear fast. If you need ~40, just double/triple the puff pastry and keep the olive count matching. Easy fix!

  40. User avatar flor.balistreri63 says:

    2 stars
Not sure why these got so much hype. I found them kinda bland… maybe add some spices?

    1. 4 stars
I agree with you! They definitely need a kick. Paprika or chili flakes could really amp them up. 🌶️

    2. 2 stars
Bland!? These are so good, they don’t need anything else. Maybe you just made them wrong? 🤔
