Mustard-Maple Roasted Salmon

July 22, 2025

Mustard-Maple Roasted Salmon is one of those dishes that feels gourmet but is surprisingly simple to make. It combines the deep richness of salmon with the sweet tang of maple syrup and the bold bite of Dijon mustard. The result is a perfectly balanced main course that’s ideal for weeknight dinners or impressing guests without breaking a sweat.

What makes this dish so appealing is its short ingredient list and fast cook time. The glaze is made from just a few pantry staples – maple syrup, Dijon mustard, olive oil, a touch of garlic, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Together, they create a caramelized coating that locks in moisture and adds layers of flavor as the salmon roasts. The heat of the oven helps the glaze thicken and bubble, forming a glossy crust that pairs beautifully with the buttery texture of the fish.

Beyond its delicious flavor, mustard-maple salmon is also a nutritional powerhouse. Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and essential vitamins like B12 and D. When combined with the natural sweetness of maple syrup and the sharpness of mustard, it’s a meal that feels indulgent while still being good for you.

This recipe is also incredibly versatile. Serve it with a side of roasted vegetables, wild rice, or a crisp green salad for a well-rounded meal. You can even flake leftover salmon into grain bowls or sandwiches the next day. The mustard-maple glaze also pairs well with other proteins like chicken or pork if you’re looking to mix things up.

Whether you’re feeding your family on a busy night or planning a quiet dinner for two, mustard-maple roasted salmon hits all the right notes, easy, elegant, and packed with flavor. It’s one of those recipes you’ll keep coming back to again and again.

I used fish sticks and it tasted different. Maybe I’m just bad at cooking? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar shad.kerluke says:

      4 stars
Fish sticks? That sounds like a big no-no! 😂 Salmon is just so different. It’s not you, it’s the ingredients! Try using fresh salmon next time!

    2. 3 stars
I mean, fish sticks are processed stuff, so of course it’s gonna taste different! Maybe give it another try with real salmon?

  11. User avatar Emily Saunders says:

    5 stars
Salmon is good for you, right? I heard it helps brain or something, so easy to make is a win!

This dish is a game changer! Elegant and simple, perfect for impressing guests.

  15. 4 stars
I didn’t have Dijon so I used whole-grain mustard and it was still tasty. Maybe less “smooth” but the roast flavor was awesome.

    1. User avatar tanner.hudson73 says:

      5 stars
Nice save! Whole-grain mustard sounds like it’d add a little extra bite—agree it won’t be as smooth, but that roast flavor can really come through.

  16. User avatar kendrick.nicolas44 says:

    4 stars
I was a bit skeptical at first. Mustard and maple? But wow, I was surprised how good it turned out. Great flavors!

    1. 5 stars
I’m glad you enjoyed it! The combo is really unique, isn’t it? Perfect for impressing guests.

    2. User avatar marcelo.larson says:

Sounds weird lol. Mustard on fish? I would never try that, but glad it worked for you.

  17. User avatar Princess Zelda says:

I didn’t have soy sauce, used teriyaki instead. Came out just fine! 🔥

  18. User avatar jamal.oconnell says:

    5 stars
    Salmon?? Yea! Fish rules!

  19. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    5 stars
This sounded weird to me (maple + salmon?) but wow. I’m converted. The soy helps cut the sweetness a lot.

    1. 5 stars
Same! Maple + salmon sounded like a dessert mistake 😅 but that soy + mustard combo makes it actually savory. Glad it worked for you!

    2. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

      4 stars
I was thinkin it would be too sweet too, but 1 tsp soy is a good move. I might try it with a little less maple next time. Did you notice any fishy smell or was it gone?

  20. User avatar taryn.kozey1977 says:

    4 stars
My whole family loved it! I’m not usually a fish person, but this recipe changed my mind.

  22. User avatar noah.schmidt1956 says:

    2 stars
This sounds complicated! Can I just throw the fish on the grill instead?

    1. User avatar lydia.champlin42 says:

      4 stars
You could, but the flavors from roasting make a big difference! Give it a try! 😊

    2. User avatar liberal.hero says:

      3 stars
Grillin is quicker, but this recipe really brings out the taste. Just saying!

  23. 5 stars
Really liked it! But my kids said it was ‘too fancy’… kids, right? Will make this for date night!

  24. 2 stars
umm can you use honey instead of maple?? asking for a friend…

  25. User avatar Shanae Bailey says:

    3 stars
Could use more detailed seasoning. Like how much sea salt are we talking? I used “as needed” and maybe went light because it tasted a bit muted.

    1. 5 stars
Good point—“as needed” is vague. I usually start with about 1/2 tsp fine sea salt per fillet (so roughly 2 tsp total for 4). If your salmon is thicker or the brand is less salty, go up to ~3/4 tsp per fillet. Taste after seasoning; the mustard/soy can make it feel muted if the salt is light.

  26. 1 star
Yuk! No way am I eatin’ salmon with mustard. Tried it just for the fun, can’t stand the taste!

  27. User avatar wellRespected says:

    5 stars
This recipe is amazing! The blend of mustard and maple is perfect. My family loved it, and I’m definitely making it again.

  28. User avatar Adriana Schaden says:

    3 stars
Can you use honey instead of maple syrup? I accedently bought honey. It still went well but I don’t know if it was a legit swap.

  29. User avatar Brady Schuster says:

    3 stars
I liked it but my husband thought the mustard was too strong.

    1. User avatar Katia Brown says:

      2 stars
Honestly, I prefer it without mustard. Not everyone likes that strong taste. 😬

    2. 4 stars
I think the mustard is what makes it great! Maybe try using less next time.

  30. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    3 stars
It was okay, but I think I overcooked the salmon. Next time, I’ll check it sooner. Not sure if I’ll try again though.

    1. User avatar zachery.pouros39 says:

      5 stars
Don’t give up! It takes practice. Try checking at 15 minutes next time.

    2. User avatar Melinda Schowalter says:

      3 stars
Overcooked salmon is still better than burnt! Just need to watch it more closely.

  31. User avatar santina.roberts64 says:

    3 stars
Flavor is okay, but it was a little salty for my taste (probably the soy sauce + sea salt). Also I think I overcooked by 2-3 minutes—still edible, just drier than I wanted.

  32. User avatar maria.hills says:

    5 stars
Yummy! Easy peasy! Definitely make again!

  33. 1 star
Sounds weird! 😂 Who puts maple on fish? Not my thing!

  34. 3 stars
This was fine, but I’ve had better salmon. The glaze is tasty though, so I’d make it again for chicken maybe.

  35. 2 stars
I messed up the cooking time and it came out dry. Should have followed the instructions better. 😩

  36. 2 stars
Too many ingredients for a simple fish dish. Just need lemon and herbs, keep it simple.

    1. User avatar marinda.hauck36 says:

      2 stars
Nah, fish is good with just lemon, you don’t need all that stuff. Keeping it simple is better!

    2. 4 stars
I get what you mean, but the mustard and maple really add a unique flavor! Sometimes a little extra is worth it.

  37. User avatar conrad.lockman2004 says:

    3 stars
I tried this, but the sauce was too sweet for my taste. Might tweak it next time. 🤔

  38. 3 stars
I dunno, I thought it would taste weird. Mustard and maple? But I gave it a try. It was okay, but I won’t make it again.

  39. User avatar kera.sauer65 says:

    3 stars
My salmon turned out kinda dry. I followed the recipe exactly but I don’t think 20 mins is enough for my oven.

  40. 5 stars
This was amazing! The mustard and maple combo is just out of this world! 5 stars for sure!

  41. User avatar Hedy Cole III says:

    3 stars
Simple and easy recipe. A little too sweet for my liking but still tasty. Will use less maple next time.

  42. 3 stars
Salmon is my fav fish, but I dunno about this mustard thing. Gonna try it anyway.

    1. User avatar Wellington Yueh says:

      4 stars
Mustard and maple sounds weird but it could be good! I’m willing to give it a shot.

    2. User avatar denny.fadel83 says:

      2 stars
I don’t know, man. Mustard on fish? Really? Sounds so strange to me.

  43. User avatar fletcher.blick92 says:

    5 stars
This was sooo good! The mustard and maple combo is amazing! 😊

  44. 4 stars
Easy weeknight meal. I had to swap soy sauce for tamari, still great. Resting for 3-4 minutes really helped the texture.

  45. User avatar cindie.bednar says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why people like putting sweet stuff on fish. This was bleh to me.

  46. User avatar cassidy.erdman says:

    5 stars
Cooked this for my wife and she was totally impressed! Thanks for the recipe!

    1. 3 stars
Really? Mustard and maple? Sounds weird, but I might try it. How did the flavors mix?

    2. User avatar harold.schiller12 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Nothing beats a happy wife after a good meal. Glad it turned out well for you!

  47. 4 stars
I wasn’t too sure about the combo of mustard and syrup. It sounded weird, but it actually turned out good. Will try again!

    1. User avatar Wonko the Sane says:

      5 stars
So glad you liked it! Mustard and syrup is a game changer! 🥳

  48. User avatar doretha.marvin28 says:

    2 stars
Honestly, I don’t get why salmon needs maple syrup. It tastes like breakfast candy to me. Won’t make again, but I respect the effort.

  49. 5 stars
This was super easy—like dump, mix, bake. I served it with rice and broccoli and everyone cleaned their plates. 10/10 for weeknights.

    1. User avatar Marquerite Graham says:

      5 stars
Agreed—this is exactly the kind of weeknight dinner I like. The mustard-maple combo is surprisingly good and not too complicated. I did it with rice too—no leftovers!

  50. 4 stars
This recipe is super easy! I made it for my family and they loved it! Next time, I might add some garlic for an extra kick.

  51. User avatar erin.hermann28 says:

    5 stars
400°F for 20 minutes was spot on for my 6 oz fillets. Super easy, and the Dijon-maple combo makes it feel fancy.

    1. User avatar blythe.raynor1979 says:

      4 stars
Tried this tonight and mine felt a lil too sweet, like I might’ve put too much maple. Next time I’ll cut the maple in half. Still tasty tho.

    2. User avatar Chaurus Hunter says:

      5 stars
Yes! I also did 400°F for about 18-22 min depending on thickness and it came out perfect. The Dijon + maple glaze is such a good combo.

  52. User avatar ellis.hickle77 says:

    3 stars
Quick question: do you really need parchment? I skipped it and it stuck a little. Taste was fine, but cleanup was annoying.

    1. User avatar Raynor Schein says:

      5 stars
Yeah, parchment is mostly for easy release/cleanup. If you skip it, the glaze can grab onto the pan a bit—sounds like that happened to you. I’d still use it if you don’t want scrubbing later.

    2. User avatar abram.schuster says:

      4 stars
I don’t always use parchment. I just oil the pan well (or use foil + oil) and it comes up easier. Taste-wise your fine result is the proof, but cleanup is def better with parchment.

  53. 4 stars
I don’t love Dijon (tastes kinda sharp to me), so I was skeptical. Surprisingly it balanced well with the maple.

    1. 5 stars
Totally get you—Dijon can be super sharp. I tried it once and the maple really does mellow it out. 20 minutes at 400°F worked great for me too.

  54. User avatar amy.fahey61 says:

    2 stars
Mine got a bit dry after 20 mins—maybe my fillets were thicker. Should have checked at 15-18 minutes.

  55. 3 stars
Pretty good but my kids didn’t like it. Maybe just not for picky eaters.

  56. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    4 stars
I forgot to line the pan with parchment and cleanup was annoying, but flavor saved it. Sticky glaze everywhere 😅

    1. User avatar fernanda.price1976 says:

      4 stars
Ugh I feel that 😅 The glaze is delicious but it definitely turns the pan into a sticky mess. Parchment is clutch for this one.

    2. 5 stars
Next time try foil with a light oil spray—less cleanup than parchment for me. Glad the flavor made it worth it though!

  57. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    2 stars
Tasted fine but salmon is too fishy for my liking. I guess it’s just not for me. Next time, I’ll stick with chicken!

    1. User avatar jarvis.collins70 says:

      3 stars
But salmon is super healthy! Maybe try it with a different sauce next time? Just a thought!

    2. User avatar tajuana.schowalter2006 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! Salmon can be a bit of an acquired taste. Chicken is always a safe bet!

  58. User avatar Demon King Piccolo says:

    2 stars
Salmon is healthy but eating it with syrup? Idk about that.

  59. User avatar mario.jacobson84 says:

    3 stars
I tried it and it kinda tasted like chicken? Not bad tho. Also my parchment stuck a bit, so line it better than I did lol.

  60. 5 stars
Made this tonight and it was seriously restaurant-level. The sweet-savory glaze caramelized nicely and the salmon stayed juicy.

  61. 4 stars
Easy and quick! We made it during the week, not bad but maybe more seasoning?

  62. User avatar marcene.crooks74 says:

    4 stars
I’m not a huge fan of soy sauce on salmon, but I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t fishy at all, just savory and sweet.

  63. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    4 stars
I followed it exactly and it came out a little too sweet for my taste. Next time I’ll cut the maple syrup in half or add more soy to balance.

  64. 2 stars
not sure about mustard and maple together… but i tried it anyway lol. it was weird at first taste then i liked it. would maybe lower the maple nex time.

  65. User avatar ed.schulist7 says:

    5 stars
    Easy and tasty. Five stars.

  66. User avatar michale.prohaska20 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—so good. The sweet-salty glaze caramelized nicely and the salmon stayed moist. I followed the 20 minutes and it was perfect.

    1. User avatar arleen.gislason12 says:

      4 stars
Mine got a bit too dark at 20 min (maybe my oven runs hot?). Still tasty, just next time I’ll watch it closer or start checking at like 15.

    2. User avatar Nunu & Willump says:

      5 stars
Awesome—glaze caramelizing is the best part. I’m glad the 20 minutes worked for you too!

  67. 3 stars
Not bad, but mine came out a little too sticky/sweet. Next time I’ll reduce the maple syrup or use less brushing on top.

  68. User avatar tyrone.conn says:

    4 stars
I thought the flavors would clash, but they actually work great together! Will make again.

  69. User avatar franklin.hickle1962 says:

    1 star
Isn’t soy sauce not supposed to go with fish? I’m confused.

  70. 4 stars
I loved the sauce, but I should’ve used less sea salt. It was a tiny bit salty for me. Still delicious though.

  71. User avatar elmer.feest34 says:

    5 stars
Easy weeknight meal. I didn’t even measure the pepper, and it still came out great. Would 100% make again.

  72. 5 stars
I forgot to brush the mix on the last fillet lol—ended up plain. Still, the other ones were great. Would make again!

    1. 5 stars
Ahh I’ve totally done that—one missing step and suddenly it’s like “why is this not saucy?!” 😄 But glad the rest turned out great. Thanks for the tip!

  73. 5 stars
The 400°F temp feels spot on. I’m not usually a salmon person, but this seasoning actually made it my dinner plan now.

    1. User avatar kirstie.fay99 says:

      5 stars
400°F really is the sweet spot! I’m with you—Dijon + maple + a little soy makes it taste way more “restaurant” than I expected. I’ve been using this as my default weeknight salmon too.

    2. 3 stars
Not gonna lie I tried something like this once and it came out kinda sweet for me. How do you stop the maple from overpowering the fish? Also is 20 minutes always right for 6 oz fillets or does it vary a lot?

  74. User avatar luana.roberts47 says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty exactly, but I used a bit less maple syrup than called for. Still good though—crust was nice. Next time I’ll add a squeeze of lemon at the end for brightness.

    1. User avatar jesse.okuneva says:

      5 stars
Nice! I like that idea—lemon at the end really makes salmon taste less “sweet.” Glad the crust turned out.

  75. 4 stars
I followed it exactly and the sauce kinda dried up on top, but the salmon was still juicy. Maybe my oven runs hot?

    1. User avatar giuseppe.bartoletti says:

      5 stars
That sounds pretty likely—if your oven runs hot, the glaze can dry out before the fish finishes. Next time I’d try 375°F or pull it at ~18 minutes and rest right away.

    2. User avatar stewart.bayer46 says:

      4 stars
Hmm maybe you used less sauce than the recipe says? I usually see it stay glossy for me. Also did you cover it loosely with foil at the halfway mark?

  76. User avatar delora.volkman92 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about maple on fish. Sounds strange.

  77. User avatar ngan.yundt says:

    5 stars
This sounds weird on paper (maple + mustard + salmon), but WOW. I’m adding it to my weeknight rotation.

    1. 5 stars
I was skeptical too—maple + mustard sounds like it shouldn’t work, but the sweet/savory balance makes sense. Definitely trying this on a busy night!

  78. 4 stars
I’m skeptical about mustard + maple, but wow. It’s bold without being weird. Next time I’ll add a tiny pinch of chili flakes.

  79. User avatar leroy.ratke97 says:

    4 stars
Mine didn’t flake easily after 20 minutes, so I had to roast another 5. Guess my fillets were thicker than 6 oz. Still ended up great.

  80. 4 stars
This was super easy to make. Impressed my family! 😊

  81. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

    4 stars
Seems too simple? Like, 20 minutes at 400°F and boom dinner. It worked for me, but my sauce was kinda thick and sticky on top, not runny like I expected.

  82. User avatar harrison.zboncak85 says:

    4 stars
Not a huge fan of soy sauce in fish, but I tried anyway. Honestly it works—just don’t overdo it.

  83. User avatar raphael.walker says:

    5 stars
Good balance of flavors. I added a squeeze of lemon at the end and it tasted restaurant-level. Would definitely make again.

  84. User avatar casie.bashirian15 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it was seriously good—sweet, tangy, and not fishy at all. I’d roast 22 minutes next time just to get a deeper glaze, but overall 10/10.

    1. User avatar Ivy Ryan II says:

      5 stars
Love hearing it! The glaze timing totally makes sense—22 minutes should give you that deeper caramelized top. What did you serve it with?

  85. User avatar octavio.morissette says:

    5 stars
My dog loved it too! Not that he eats salmon often, but I’m sure he would approve! 🐶

  86. User avatar Sue Permann says:

    3 stars
I think the instructions are a bit off—salmon should be cooked to like 160°F and it was still kinda raw at 20 min for me. Maybe my oven runs hot?

Mine took closer to 25 min at 400°F with pretty thick fillets, so I think the “20 minutes” timing is optimistic. I always go by the fork test + internal temp instead of the clock now.

Good call on the temp! Salmon is usually best at 125–145°F depending on how you like it (and 160°F will be more done), so if yours was raw at 20 min your oven probably runs cool or the fillets were thicker. I’d start checking around 12–15 min next time.

I’m so glad you liked it! It’s become a family favorite at our house too!

The glaze caramelized nicely and smelled amazing. I added a squeeze of lemon at the end and it tasted restaurant-level.

Wow, this was the best salmon I’ve ever made! The mustard and maple combo is genius! Will definitely be making this again.

This is the only way I’ll roast salmon now. Resting a few minutes helps a lot—flakes perfectly and the glaze sticks. I served it with rice and it was perfect.

The mustard-maple smell while roasting was amazing. My whole family kept hovering like we’re at a cooking show 😂

    One word: Perfect.

Honestly, I thought it would be bland. The pepper + soy wakes it up. Also smells amazing while roasting.

Hmm maybe. I feel like 1 tsp soy for 4 salmon fillets is kinda low? Mine needs more salt or it tastes flat. But smell while roasting is definitely on point 😅

I was skeptical too, but the soy + pepper really does “wake it up.” The glaze caramelizes nicely—so good. Thanks for sharing!

LOL mustard maple on fish? I guess it works. 10/10 would eat again.

salmon good. I like maple. Did not like the mustard part though, too much flavor. But still ate it all!

This is fine but 20 minutes at 400°F felt short for my thicker fillets. I had to add like 6 minutes more to get it fully cooked.

I’m skeptical about mixing mustard and maple together… but I tried it and I was wrong. It’s a fun flavor contrast.

Made this tonight and it came out super flavorful—sweet/savory balance is on point. The glaze caramelized a little at the edges and the salmon stayed juicy. Will definitely repeat.

Meh… the flavor is okay but I’ve had better. Also I always forget to rest the fish and it still tastes fine so… not sure about that step.

Pretty good, but mine came out a little too sweet. Next time I’ll cut the maple syrup in half or use a darker Dijon for more bite.

Good tip! I’ve had that happen when the maple is a bit too generous—cutting it in half sounds perfect. A darker Dijon also gives it way more bite.

Maybe i just dont cook right, but mine wasnt sweet at all… i think it depends on the brand of maple syrup and how thick the coating is. Still, half the syrup next time wouldn’t hurt.
