Lemon Lavender Cookies

April 21, 2025

Lemon lavender cookies are a delightful blend of floral lavender and zesty lemon, creating a light, aromatic treat perfect for any occasion. The sweetness of the cookies is perfectly balanced with the refreshing citrus flavor, while the lavender adds a subtle floral note, making them an elegant and unique dessert. Whether you’re serving them at a tea party, giving them as a gift, or simply enjoying them with a cup of tea or coffee, these cookies are sure to impress.

To start, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Set this mixture aside for later.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This will provide a smooth base for your dough and help create the perfect cookie texture. Add the lemon zest to the butter and sugar mixture, along with an egg and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. The lemon zest will infuse the dough with a fresh, citrusy flavor that pairs beautifully with the lavender.

Next, gently fold in the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. The dough should come together easily and have a slightly sticky texture. To bring in the lavender, add dried culinary lavender buds to the dough. Be sure to use lavender specifically labeled for cooking, as some lavender varieties can be too strong or even unsafe to eat. The floral lavender will provide a soft, fragrant note to the cookies.

Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, portion out small rounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. If you like, you can gently press the tops of the dough rounds to flatten them slightly for a more uniform shape.

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t overbake, as you want them to stay soft and tender in the center. Once done, remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For an extra touch of sweetness, you can drizzle the cooled cookies with a simple lemon glaze made from powdered sugar and lemon juice. This will enhance the citrus flavor and give the cookies a glossy finish.

These lemon lavender cookies are the perfect balance of tart and floral, making them a truly special dessert that’s both refreshing and indulgent.

What type of lavender do I use? Got confused at that part. I used the dried one from my garden.

    1. 3 stars
I thought any lavender would work! But now I’m not sure if my cookies will taste weird. Hope it turns out ok.

    2. User avatar malia.nienow1964 says:

      5 stars
You can use culinary lavender, which is often labeled specifically for cooking. Dried lavender from your garden might be fine, but make sure it’s not treated with chemicals!

  21. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about lavender buds, but they actually work. Next time I’ll reduce by like 1/4 tbsp just to be safe.

    1. User avatar terica.marks20 says:

      5 stars
Love that you gave the lavender a chance! Reducing the amount by 1/4 tbsp next time sounds smart—lavender can get overpowering fast. Did you find the flavor subtle or pretty strong?

  23. User avatar elmer.bartoletti says:

    5 stars
These cookies were a hit at my tea party! The lavender adds such a unique flavor. 🥰

  24. User avatar Marcus Shanahan says:

    1. User avatar ryan.moen says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! The lemon zest is a game changer. I also didn’t use lavender once, and they turned out great! Less is sometimes more.

    2. User avatar scotty.schowalter14 says:

      3 stars
Lemon zest? Is that the same as lemon peel? I dunno about skipping lavender… sounds important. But glad you liked it.

  25. User avatar Rocky Rhoades says:

    5 stars
These cookies are sooo good! Perfect blend of lemon and lavender! Definitely making them again! 🌼🍋

Pretty easy to make, but mine turned out a bit flat. Any tips? I followed the recipe exactly!

    1. User avatar abram.parisian70 says:

      4 stars
Maybe your oven temp is off? Check with a thermometer. Make sure you’re measuring the flour right too! Too much can make them flat.

    2. User avatar Rota Ooh says:

      2 stars
I don’t think lemon and lavender go together, but if you say so. Have you tried adding more baking powder next time?

  27. User avatar columbus.boyer says:

    3 stars
Just okay… I expected more lemony flavor. Don’t know if I will make them again.

  28. 3 stars

    1. User avatar chrystal.sipes64 says:

Really? Lavender? That sounds weird. I don’t think I’d like it.

  41. User avatar suzanna.gaylord says:

    2 stars
I kinda messed up: I used regular lavender (oops) and it tasted like soap. But reading other comments it might be just me—this recipe seems legit if you get culinary buds.

    1. User avatar Falmer Nightprowler says:

      5 stars
Oh no 😭 but yeah—lavender can totally go “soapy” if it’s not the right kind or if you use too much. Culinary buds are a must. Next time, try using fewer lavender buds and grind them a bit so it distributes evenly. Also, did you taste the buds before baking? Some varieties are stronger than others.

  42. User avatar mathWizard says:

    1 star
Eh, tasted like soap. I guess lavender ain’t for me. Stick to vanilla next time. 🤷‍♂️

  74. User avatar Lord Jabu-Jabu says:

    4 stars
Mine spread a bit more than expected, maybe I should’ve chilled the dough? Flavor is still great though—sweet, citrusy, and lightly floral. Next time I’ll keep an eye on the oven because my cookies went a touch dark at 10 minutes.

  78. User avatar galen.schmeler60 says:

Tangy cookies? Sounds weird to me. I prefer them sweet. 🤷‍♂️

Extra lemon is a great idea! I always thought it needed a bit more zest too. Glad it turned out well!

Followed it exactly and mine were dry 😕 maybe my oven runs hot? 8-10 minutes felt like a lot. Would try chilling the dough or checking earlier.

Super easy recipe, made these for my tea party and they were a hit! Thank you!

Sounds fancy, but cookies with lavender? I dunno about that. Isn’t that for like, potpourri or somethin’?

I’m glad to hear they were a hit! Tea parties are so fun. Do you plan on trying other flavors too?

So 1 tbsp lavender buds… I used what I had and it might’ve been too much? Mine came out kinda floral/strong. Not bad, just not “cookie” flavor.

Yummy! I eat them all in one go, lol.

All in one go? That sounds like a tummy ache waiting to happen! 😅

I know right! They are so good that you can’t stop at one! 😂

Too much lemon for my taste. 😒 Thought I was making cookies, not lemonade.

Amazing! Definitely my new favorite cookie! Will share the recipe.

This is a very “clean” cookie—no fancy steps, and the lemon zest really pops. I’d lower sugar slightly next time maybe, but overall great balance.

Totally agree—the lemon zest is the star here. I’ve made these twice and love how simple they are without being bland. Next batch I’m probably cutting the sugar a bit too, since I like a slightly less sweet cookie.

Easy to follow recipe. My kids helped make them and they were so excited. Will make again!

I really wanted to like these, but they came out kind of dry. I followed the recipe exactly.

My kids loved them! I added some sprinkles on top for fun. Will make again.

Lemon and lavender? Sounds weird to me. My kids wouldn’t touch that!

    2. 5 stars
That sounds like a fun twist with the sprinkles! I might try that too. 😋

I thought they were okay. Didn’t quite get the lavender taste but lemon was nice. 6/10.

Lemon and lavender? Weird combo… but hey, who am I to judge. Not for me.

Lemon cookies are better without lavender in my opinion. Sorry! 😅

But lavender gives a nice floral note! I think it really enhances the flavor. 🤷‍♀️

I totally agree! Lemon cookies are best as they are. Lavender just isn’t meant for cookies! 🍪

Um, do you need special lavender? I just got some from my yard? Is that okay?

  96. 4 stars
I was skeptical about lavender in cookies, but these are surprisingly good. Will make again!

They turned out pretty good but not like the ones my grandma used to make. Miss the old days. 🙁

  98. 5 stars
Omg, my family devoured these! They didn’t even notice the lavender. 😂

The instructions are clear, but I wish it said whether to grind the lavender buds. I left them whole and the texture was weird in a couple bites.

Not really a fan of the lavender. It’s too much for me. I might try it without next time.
