I made this without honey since I’m not a fan and it was still good!

Not sure about simmering tea leaves in milk… wouldn’t it curdle? Maybe medium heat is too much but then again you strain, so maybe it’s okay.

    1. User avatar Lumberjack says:

      5 stars
I was worried about curdling too, but keeping it at LOW once the tea goes in works. I do a gentle simmer, not boiling—then strain. Tastes amazing.

Curdle? Maybe, but only if you boil it hard or keep it too hot too long. Medium for just heating the milk is fine. Straining helps, and the honey/vanilla after take the edge off.

Not gonna lie, I think I got the measurements all wrong and it turned out awful. LOL.

  4. 5 stars
Best latte ever! My new go-to drink! Seriously, try this!!

I think you forgot to mention whisking—mine had tiny flecks even after straining. Flavor was good, but texture wasn’t super smooth.

    1. User avatar celestina.prosacco1964 says:

      4 stars
Hmm I did strain it, but I guess whisking might help. Next time I’ll whisk right after adding honey/vanilla—those flecks sound like the tea didn’t fully break down for you.

    2. 3 stars
I tried this and mine was smooth?? maybe your heat was too high or you didn’t simmer long enough. Also hoji cha can clump a bit—did you use fresh leaves? Idk, but it tastes good either way.

  6. 1 star
Meh. Tastes like weak tea with cinnamon on top. Honey helped but not enough for me.

    1. 3 stars
Hmm I get what you mean. Hoji cha can be kinda light, like toasted tea. I’d add a bit more tea leaves or a splash more honey, and go easy on the cinnamon—too much can read as “cinnamon milk” instead of latte.

    2. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

      4 stars
Sorry it didn’t hit for you! I wonder if steep time is the issue—when I do 5 minutes it’s subtle, but 7–8 minutes (on low) makes it way more “tea-like.” Also I usually whisk the honey in off-heat so it doesn’t dull the flavor.

  7. 5 stars
Yum, cinnamon is the best part! 😍

  8. User avatar Bowerick Wowbagger says:

Is vanilla extract necessary? I just feel like it might change the flavor too much. Anyway, I’m going to try it without.

  9. Thank You

  10. User avatar Ceola Boyer says:

I tried a similar latte before and it turned out super bitter when I steeped too long. Good call keeping it to 5 minutes and straining.

    1. User avatar nathaniel.koch91 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! The bitterness is real if it steeps too long. I’ll definitely stick to the 5 minutes and strain—thanks for the tip.

  11. 5 stars
This is the best latte ever! So soothing and delicious.

  12. User avatar corey.wilderman says:

Can you use almond milk instead of regular milk? I’m vegan.

  13. 3 stars
The honey measurement is kinda random (like, tablespoons always vary). Mine got thicker than expected—still tasty, just more “dessert” than drink.

  14. User avatar emil.beer98 says:

    1 star
Ingredients look cheap. You could just drink hot milk and get the same thing.

    1. User avatar minna.steuber1971 says:

      5 stars
But hot milk is not the same. Hoji Cha has its own taste. Why not try it before judging? It’s really good!

    2. User avatar jinny.leuschke22 says:

      4 stars
I see what you mean, but this sounds different from just hot milk! The tea really adds an extra layer! Plus, honey is great for flavor.

  15. 5 stars
Wow, this tastes amazing! The Hoji Cha is the best! I love the honey in it too.

  16. User avatar So Schumm says:

This was soooo good! Never tried Hoji Cha before. Definitely making again!

  17. 2 stars
I dunno, what’s Hoji Cha? This recipe sound weird. Just stick with regular tea.

  18. 4 stars
Simple yet tasty! I didn’t have honey so used sugar instead. Still awesome!

  19. User avatar mohamed.ondricka37 says:

    3 stars
This was kinda okay, but I think I might’ve burnt the milk a little. Maybe need to try again?

    1. User avatar lorette.kuphal0 says:

      3 stars
Maybe try almond milk instead? It’s yummier and harder to burn, lol!

    2. User avatar Eustolia Herzog says:

      4 stars
Don’t worry! Burning milk happens to the best of us. Just try keeping the heat lower next time. It’ll be perfect! 😊

Can I just use regular tea leaves instead? Asking for a friend.

    1. User avatar rene.koelpin60 says:

      3 stars
Regular tea leaves might work, but they won’t give you the same flavor as Hoji Cha. Just sayin’.

    2. User avatar Teena Osinski says:

      4 stars
Of course you can! Tea is tea, right? Just don’t blame me if it tastes different! 😜

  21. User avatar yvone.hegmann says:

    2 stars
Not a fan of the taste… maybe too much honey?

  22. 5 stars
Cozy and not too sweet—loved the toasted nutty flavor from the hoji cha. The cinnamon garnish was a nice touch.

  23. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz says:

lol cinnamon on top? okay fine. i will try but i hope it not taste like burnt popcorn

    1. User avatar leonarda.lehner says:

      4 stars
Haha fair—cinnamon can be hit or miss. Start with a super tiny sprinkle so it doesn’t go “burnt popcorn” 😂 Let me know how it turns out!

  24. User avatar bernice.predovic52 says:

What even is Hoji Cha? I prefer regular tea.

  25. 4 stars
I’m not sure about simmering the tea leaves for exactly 5 minutes… I did 7 and it got a little stronger than I wanted, but still tasty. Next time I’ll follow the recipe.

  26. User avatar vincent.effertz47 says:

    3 stars
Is the tea leaf really necessary? I mean, can’t I just use a tea bag instead? Feels like a lot of work.

    1. 5 stars
I tried it with a tea bag once, and it didn’t taste right! The leaves make it special. Totally worth the extra trouble!

    2. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      3 stars
Using a tea bag is way easier! But it’s not the same as the real tea leaves, ya know? They give a unique flavor. Just my opinion!

  27. 3 stars
I made it but forgot the honey. It was still okayish. Next time I’ll do better!

    1. User avatar ema.heidenreich says:

      4 stars
It sounds like you did a great job even without the honey! Next time, it’ll be even better! 😊

Tastes like cardboard. I think I did it wrong but idk what! 😩

    1. 5 stars
Don’t give up! Maybe try using more honey or let the tea steep a bit longer? I’ve found it helps enhance the flavor. 😄

  30. User avatar jeneva.franecki46 says:

Too sweet for my taste… honey should be optional! 😤
