Introduction to Guacamole

A Classic Mexican Dip Made with Avocados

Guacamole is a versatile and delicious dip that holds a special place in Mexican cuisine. Made primarily with ripe avocados, this creamy and flavorful dish has gained immense popularity worldwide. It is not only loved for its rich taste but also for its numerous health benefits.

Popularity of Guacamole

A Beloved Dish Across the Globe

Guacamole has become a staple in many households, not only in Mexico but also in various other countries. Its immense popularity can be attributed to its versatility and ability to complement a wide range of dishes. From being a must-have accompaniment for tortilla chips at parties to being used as a topping for tacos, burritos, and even salads, this classic dip has become a favorite among people of all ages.

The Health Benefits of Guacamole

A Nutrient-Rich Dip

While guacamole is famous for its delicious taste, it is worth mentioning that it also offers numerous health benefits. Avocados, the primary ingredient in guacamole, are packed with nutrients and healthy fats. They are a great source of dietary fiber, vitamins (such as vitamins C, E, K, and B-6), and minerals (like potassium and magnesium). Avocados also contain monounsaturated fats, which are known for their heart-healthy properties.

A Guilt-Free Indulgence

What makes guacamole a healthier choice compared to many other dips is that it is free from artificial additives, preservatives, and unhealthy trans fats. It can be enjoyed guilt-free as part of a balanced diet, providing essential nutrients while pleasing the palate.

In conclusion, guacamole is a universally loved dip that celebrates the flavors of Mexico. With its growing popularity and undeniable health benefits, this classic dish made with avocados remains a top choice for both enthusiasts of Mexican cuisine and health-conscious individuals.

Why is everyone obsessed with guac? It’s just smashed avocados.

  2. User avatar aura.bailey22 says:

Yum! I love guacamole! I added a bit more garlic because I love the flavor. Will make again!

  3. User avatar treena.funk says:

I tried this recipe and it turned out too spicy for my taste, even with just a little cayenne. It’s good if you like it hot, though.

  4. User avatar Orange Dartwing says:

    4 stars
Simple and quick! I used lemon juice instead of lime. Still delish!

I didn’t have lime, so I used lemon juice instead. Not the same.

  6. 2 stars
Is it really guacamole without tomatoes? I’m skeptical about this recipe.

    1. 4 stars
Honestly, I think tomatoes add a great flavor, but this version sounds good too! Maybe try it and see?

    2. 2 stars
Guacamole without tomatoes? That’s weird. Everyone knows you need tomatoes for it to be real guacamole lol.

Literally the best guac recipe. I make it every week! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  8. User avatar rina.gottlieb85 says:

    3 stars
I know it says serve immediately, but I had leftovers and it turned a bit brown. Still tasted decent though—just looked less appetizing.

  9. User avatar amado.bauch33 says:

    5 stars
Sooo good! I skipped the cumin and it was still amzing!!

  10. User avatar william.bogan1977 says:

    2 stars
Just eat straight avocado. This is too complicated.

    1. User avatar Wellington Yueh says:

      5 stars
Nah, this is easy! Just mash and mix. I whip it up in no time!

    2. User avatar Dremora Lord says:

      4 stars
I get that! Sometimes simple is best. But guac adds a nice kick, don’t you think?

  11. User avatar latarsha.mayert80 says:

    2 stars
How can you say this is guacamole? There’s no tomato or jalapeño! Rethink your recipe, dude.

    1. User avatar Kristan McDermott says:

      4 stars
I think guacamole can be made in different ways. This one sounds tasty even without tomatoes! 😋

  12. 4 stars
Yummy! Love the kick from the cayenne! 😍

    1. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

      2 stars
Cayenne? Really? I think that’s too spicy for guacamole. Just stick to the basics!

    2. User avatar lanell.gerlach says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! The cayenne makes it so much better. Can’t wait to try this! 😋

  13. 5 stars
This recipe is spot on! The cumin gives it a nice touch. I serve it with tacos all the time now!

  14. User avatar joe_banana says:

    2 stars
Why do people put cumin in guacamole? That’s just wrong. It should be simple.

  15. User avatar Drew Breitenberg says:

    3 stars
Not bad. But the garlic clove felt too strong for me—next time I’ll use less or roast it. Texture was great either way.

  16. User avatar shawana.pollich1954 says:

    4 stars
I added some diced tomatoes to mine, and it turned out great!

  17. User avatar enid.schneider14 says:

    2 stars
Too much onion for my taste. I prefer a more simple guac. Next time I’ll use half. 🙁

  18. 5 stars
This guacamole is bomb! Love the kick from the cayenne pepper!

  19. 2 stars
I dunno about cumin in guac… isn’t that more for chili? I didn’t like it.

    1. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      2 stars
Nah, I agree. Cumin belongs in chili, not guac! That’s just wrong.

    2. User avatar chanel.oconnell89 says:

      4 stars
I think cumin adds a nice twist! It really enhances the flavor. Give it another try!

too much onion in this recipe! I might change that next time.

    1. User avatar ali.white1978 says:

I think the onion really adds a nice crunch! But you do you! 😊

  22. User avatar asa.hartmann says:

Whut! No tomato? That’s not guacamole, that’s just green mush. 👎

  23. User avatar Spriggan says:

    5 stars
Yum! I put it on my burrito, and it was a game changer! 😍

    1. 5 stars
Sounds delicious! I love guac on everything too! 🥑✨

  24. User avatar archie.gleason says:

    4 stars
Tasty but I think 1/2 tsp salt might be a lot depending on your avocados. I started with less and added at the end like the instructions say—worked better for me.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—avocados can vary a ton. I usually start with 1/4 tsp salt too and then taste after mixing. Your approach makes sense.

  25. 1 star
Not a fan. I think guacamole is overrated honestly. Just mushy green stuff.

  26. User avatar felisa.hilpert90 says:

    5 stars
This came out so creamy! I was worried about the cayenne, but it’s perfectly balanced with the lime. I mashed with a fork just like the instructions and it’s great on tacos.

  27. 3 stars
Good but there was too much onion for me. Maybe cut it down to a quarter cup? Just an idea.

  28. User avatar royce.hilpert29 says:

    2 stars
Its okay, but I prefer until I put bacon in it….

    1. User avatar everett.morar says:

      3 stars
Bacon in guac? That’s a bold move, but I guess it could be tasty?

  29. User avatar James O'Conner says:

    3 stars
Tried it and it felt kinda bland? Like… I used “ripe” avocados but maybe mine weren’t super creamy. I ended up adding more lime and salt.

    1. User avatar lilla.kilback57 says:

      5 stars
Yeah I think that’s the avocados—“ripe” can still be a little stringy. More lime + salt makes sense though. Next time, try adding a tiny bit of olive oil or mashing longer for extra creaminess.

  30. User avatar tommie.carroll43 says:

    4 stars
Easy recipe, but I subbed lime juice for lemon juice. Still worked out!

    1. User avatar ellie.connelly1996 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Lime really adds a zing to guacamole. Glad it worked out for you!

  31. User avatar miles.robel29 says:

    2 stars
Eh, wasn’t really impressed. Tasted kinda bland. Do I need more seasoning?

  32. 3 stars
I don’t understand the hype. I made it and it was just… okay. Didn’t wow me.

  33. User avatar ulysses.kris95 says:

    3 stars
I tried this and it turned brown way too fast (like within an hour). I guess I’m missing some trick? Tasted good but visually it looked sad.

  34. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    2 stars
I added a tomato and it ruined it. Why do people mess with perfection?

  35. User avatar jerald.lockman98 says:

    5 stars
This guacamole recipe is absolutely delicious! The lime juice really makes it pop. Highly recommend!

    1. User avatar roderick.hammes62 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! The lime is the secret ingredient, right? It adds so much flavor!

    2. User avatar eldridge.bauch says:

      2 stars
I dunno, I’ve tried better guacamole at restaurants. This one seems kinda basic.

  36. 3 stars
Not sure about the cumin here—feels kinda unexpected for guacamole. Still edible though, just not my fave combo.

  37. 3 stars
I don’t like cilantro, so I left it out. My guac was still pretty good.

    1. 2 stars
No cilantro?! That’s like pizza without cheese! I dunno how you did it, but I’m skeptical.

    2. 4 stars
Glad to hear it turned out good! Cilantro can be a tricky ingredient for some. I usually make it without, too!

  38. User avatar stefani.hahn40 says:

    5 stars
This is the best guac I’ve ever made! So fresh and zesty!

    1. User avatar jed.yost2 says:

Sounds delicious! I can’t wait to try it myself!

    2. User avatar sung.buckridge62 says:

Guacamole should be more chunky! Not a fan of this recipe.

  39. User avatar misti.turner1970 says:

I dont know why everyone thinks this is so great. It was okay, but nothing special.

    1. User avatar inga.adams2011 says:

      4 stars
I actually love guacamole! It’s all about the fresh ingredients. Maybe yours just needed a bit more lime?

  40. User avatar rogelio.wyman says:

    1 star
Why do people love avocado? They taste like green mush to me! 😂

    1. 4 stars
I hear ya! Everyone’s obsessed with avocados now, but I’ll take a good old fashioned guac any day! 😂

  41. User avatar thresa.weber says:

    2 stars
Idk why but mine was super watery… maybe because my avocados were too ripe. The flavor was good, just not the texture.

    1. 5 stars
Yeah, overripe avocados can totally turn guac watery—like it just won’t mash up thick. Next time try using slightly firmer avocados and mash in stages (and drain off any extra liquid if it happens). Glad the flavor still came through though!

  42. User avatar monique.schneider1997 says:

    2 stars
This is fine but kinda boring—no tomato, no jalapeño, nothing. Like, where’s the real flavor? My family won’t be impressed.

    1. 4 stars
I get what you mean, but guac doesn’t *need* tomato/jalapeño to be flavorful. The lime + cumin + cayenne + garlic already gives it a punch—maybe just add extra salt/lime and it’ll pop. If your family wants it spicier, jalapeño would totally work, though.

  43. 3 stars
Not bad at all, but mine came out a little watery. Maybe my avocados weren’t as ripe as I thought? Still ate it with tacos though.

  44. User avatar lesia.gulgowski1994 says:

    5 stars
This is the best guacamole recipe I’ve ever tried! So simple and delicious.

Guacamole is just smashed avocados, right? Well, this one’s smashed perfectly!

    1. User avatar Ice Wraith says:

      4 stars
Totally! It’s all about the avocados, lol. I never thought to add cumin though, that’s interesting.

    2. 2 stars
Smashed avocados and a bunch of stuff thrown in, but what makes it ‘guacamole’? Just call it avocado mix. 🤷‍♀️

  47. User avatar gregorio.kulas75 says:

    4 stars
Solid recipe. Also, I wish people would say “serve immediately” like they mean it—after a while it turns brown lol.

  48. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    5 stars
Whoa, this is legit. Way better than store guac. I served it with tortilla chips and my whole family was eating straight out the bowl lol.

Not a fan of cilantro, so it didn’t hit the mark for me. Sorry!

  51. 3 stars
I tried this but used lemon because I didn’t have lime. Still turned out pretty good!

  52. User avatar Duncan Idaho says:

    4 stars
Yummy! But next time I might add a lil more garlic. 🧄 Love it!

  53. 2 stars
Cumin in guacamole?? Not sure about that. It tastes okay but doesn’t feel traditional to me. Could just be my palate.

  54. User avatar Frank N. Sense says:

I totally agree! This guacamole tastes amazing and is so easy to make. It’s a family favorite at our house too! 🍽️

  56. User avatar lyndon.rogahn says:

Guys. Why cumin AND cayenne? My abuela would never 😅 It tastes okay, but it’s not traditional enough for me. Maybe try just garlic + lime + salt.

  57. User avatar ivory.abernathy17 says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—so fresh. The cumin + cayenne combo is 🔥. I added a tiny extra lime and it tasted even brighter.

  58. 3 stars
Avocados are too mushy if not ripe! Gotta find the right ones next time… >:(

    1. 5 stars
Totally get that! The perfect avocado makes all the difference! 🍏

Glad to hear it turned out good without cilantro! I think it’s all about the avocados anyway.

    2. 3 stars
I dunno, man. Without cilantro, isn’t that just mashed avocados? 😂

  61. User avatar lavette.stoltenberg63 says:

    5 stars
Yummy! I can’t get enough! Perfect for taco night!

  62. 5 stars
This guacamole is the best! Super easy to make and full of flavor. Totally a hit at my party!

  63. 2 stars
There’s no way this needs cayenne pepper. It’s too spicy!

  64. User avatar neta.frami2018 says:

    5 stars
Simple and quick to make. Much better than the pre-packaged stuff. 🍑

  65. User avatar tasia.kemmer says:

    5 stars
Finally, a guac recipe that actually makes sense—simple and punchy. The cumin + cayenne combo is doing work. I added an extra squeeze of lime and it was perfect.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! The lime + cumin/kinda heat combo is exactly what guac needs. I’ve been missing the cayenne step—never thought to do that. 😋

  66. User avatar Glorfindel says:

    2 stars
Guacamole should be simple—why all the spices? I’m not convinced about cumin and cayenne. It’s edible, just not my vibe.

  67. User avatar Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings says:

    4 stars
I’m not usually a cilantro fan, but I followed it exactly. It actually balanced nicely. Texture was perfect after mashing with a fork.

  68. User avatar ashley.smith says:

    4 stars
I left out the cayenne and it was still good. I guess you can customize, which is nice!

    1. User avatar Flame Atronach says:

      3 stars
But isn’t guacamole supposed to be spicy? I feel like it’s missing something without the cayenne.

    2. User avatar jonell.weimann1 says:

      5 stars
I always skip the cayenne too! Glad to hear it still turned out great for you!

  69. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

My abuela used to make this and it was way better! Sorry, but I gotta give it a 3.

    1. User avatar elda.runolfsdottir68 says:

      2 stars
3? That seems kinda harsh! Just because it ain’t your abuela’s doesn’t mean it’s bad. Give it another shot with some extras maybe?

    2. User avatar stefan.langworth93 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! Nothing beats a grandma’s recipe, but I think this one is pretty close! What did she do differently?

  70. 5 stars

  72. User avatar virgina.balistreri says:

    5 stars. super easy. omg

  73. User avatar reta.walter1973 says:

    3 stars
I followed it but my avocados weren’t super ripe so it was chunky. If you’re picky, check ripeness first.

  74. 4 stars
Pretty good, but my guac got a little too spicy with the cayenne. Next time I’ll start with half the amount and taste as I go.

    1. 5 stars
Yeah cayenne can sneak up on you fast 😅 Half next time sounds perfect—guac should be zingy, not fire-breathing. I usually use it pinch-by-pinch.

  75. User avatar maura.brakus says:

    5 stars
I mashed it with a potato masher instead of a fork, and it came out super smooth. 😋

  76. 4 stars
Quick n easy! Just mash, mix, and eat. I added some chipotle for a twist, turned out great!

  77. 3 stars
I don’t know, I think it’s too much lime juice. It overpowers the avocado.

  78. User avatar leila.beatty4 says:

    4 stars
Love it! Easy and fast—tastes like restaurant guac.

  79. User avatar virgilio.lueilwitz says:

    5 stars
This turned out super creamy and fresh. I used extra lime because I like it punchy, and the cumin/cayenne combo is perfect. Great with tortilla chips!

    1. User avatar fiona.brown25 says:

      5 stars
Yes! The cumin and a little cayenne really make it pop. I’m glad it stayed creamy for you—fresh lime helps a ton.

    2. User avatar antwan.buckridge49 says:

      3 stars
I tried this and it was good, but mine got a bit watery—think my avocados weren’t as ripe. Also I used lemon instead of lime once and… yeah, not the same. Still would make again though.

  80. 3 stars
Why lime juice though? Would lemon work? Asking for a friend.

  81. User avatar byron.russel1 says:

    3 stars
Way too much onion for me. I prefer it simpler. Just avocados and lime!

    1. User avatar oma.jacobs0 says:

      4 stars
I get where you’re coming from! Sometimes less is more. Just avocados and lime sounds delicious! 🍥

  82. User avatar gwen.cassin says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty closely, but mine tasted a bit flat until I used more salt. Also, my avocados were super ripe so it came out smooth fast.

  83. User avatar librada.boyle1951 says:

    3 stars
I followed it pretty much exactly, but my guac turned brown pretty fast. Next time I’ll press plastic wrap right on the surface. Still good though!

  84. 5 stars
I made this for my taco night and it was gone in seconds! Perfect balance of flavors. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  85. 1 star
Why people put lime? It taste good without it too. Guac need no juice, just mash avocados!

  86. 4 stars
Could use more onion imo. I know it’s ‘1/2 cup’ but that felt small. Still tasty though—fresh and not too spicy.

  87. 5 stars
Yum. Five stars. (Yes I’m lazy, I did not measure the spices exactly.)

    1. User avatar kimberlee.douglas1961 says:

      3 stars
Lol I measure nothing too, but I think the cumin + cayenne is a lot. I usually swap cumin for paprika—tastes more “authentic” to me.

    2. User avatar osvaldo.schumm says:

      5 stars
Same here—guac forgives everything. 😄 I never measure spices either, just “a little” of everything and it still slaps.

  88. User avatar janita.bradtke1961 says:

    4 stars
Good flavor, but mine got a little too strong after I added the cayenne. Next time I’ll start with less and build up.

  89. 5 stars
This is *exactly* how I make guac—simple and fresh. The cumin + cayenne is such a nice touch.

    1. User avatar augusta.ryan says:

      5 stars
Yes! I do the same cumin/cayenne combo—makes it taste way more “real” and not just limey. Fresh batch always hits different.

  90. User avatar geoWizard says:

    4 stars
Just made this and ate it all by myself! Add a little salt pepper and it’s perfect!

Not bad, but I think 1/4 cup cilantro is too much for me. Also the cumin/cayenne combo felt a little intense. I’d probably cut cayenne next time.

Turned out really creamy even though I mashed pretty roughly. I added a bit more lime at the end and it tasted bright.

Simple and fast. I didn’t have fresh garlic so I used garlic powder and it was still pretty tasty. Might not be as punchy though.

Garlic powder?? Hmm. I feel like it changes the whole vibe of guac. Fresh garlic is the key, but I guess if you’re in a hurry it’ll do. Next time add a tiny bit more lime maybe.

Glad it worked with garlic powder! I’ve done that too when I’m out of fresh garlic—still flavorful, just a little less sharp.

Solid base recipe. I used a little less cumin because I’m not a big fan, and added an extra squeeze of lime at the end. Tastes super fresh.
