Classic Bacon Cheddar Dip

February 7, 2025

Classic Bacon cheddar dip is a rich and indulgent appetizer that combines the savory flavors of crispy bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, and creamy goodness in every bite. This dip is perfect for parties, game days, or any gathering where you want to serve something delicious and crowd-pleasing. The combination of smoky bacon and creamy cheddar is a classic that never fails to impress.

The base of this dip starts with cream cheese and sour cream, which provide a smooth and tangy foundation for the flavors. These ingredients create a creamy texture that’s perfect for dipping. To make the dip even more flavorful, sharp cheddar cheese is mixed in, giving the dip its bold, cheesy taste. The cheese melts into the dip, creating a smooth and velvety consistency that coats your chips, crackers, or vegetables beautifully.

Crispy bacon is the star of this dip, adding a smoky and salty element that complements the richness of the cheese and cream. The bacon is cooked until crispy and crumbled into small pieces, then stirred into the dip for that irresistible crunch and flavor. A touch of garlic powder, onion powder, and a dash of hot sauce (if you like a little spice) round out the flavor profile, giving it just the right amount of seasoning.

Classic Bacon cheddar dip is incredibly versatile and can be served warm or cold. If you prefer a warm dip, simply bake it in the oven until it’s bubbly and golden on top. For a cold version, just refrigerate it until ready to serve, and it will still have a creamy, flavorful taste that everyone will love. This dip pairs wonderfully with tortilla chips, crackers, sliced veggies, or even bread for dipping.

This dip is perfect for making ahead of time, as the flavors meld together and become even more delicious after a few hours in the fridge. Whether you’re hosting a party or just craving something savory, bacon cheddar dip is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser that everyone will want to dive into.

It was okay, but I think it needed something. Maybe more seasoning or a kick of spice?

I never liked bacon, but this dip was surprisingly good! My friends loved it too!

Too much bacon! bacon ain’t supposed to be the main part of a dip lol. I prefer simple dips. 2 stars.

This is dangerously good. I used smoked cheddar and it made it even better. Five stars and I’m not sorry.

I was skeptical at first, but this dip actually turned out really good. I think the garlic powder adds a nice touch.

I dunno, it just didn’t taste right. I don’t even like green things. Why add onions?

Bacon makes everything better! Simple to make, and perfect for parties!

Looks simple—like, too simple? But wow, it actually works. Cream cheese + sour cream combo is the move.

OMG this is dangerously good. I ate way more than I should with veggies. The green onions actually make it taste fresh.

I’m skeptical about only garlic powder—feels like it could use fresh garlic or something. Also 1 hour chilling might not be enough for me.

1 hour? I don’t think so 😅 I usually chill it 3-4 hours so the bacon fat sets and the flavor really comes together. Otherwise it tastes kinda “separate” to me. Still sounds good tho!

    2. 4 stars
Totally get your skepticism—garlic powder is convenient, but fresh garlic would give it a sharper bite. If you try it, maybe use 1 small clove (grated) instead and add a little extra salt to balance.

  12. 4 stars
My green onions were gone so I used dried onion flakes. It was still tasty, just not as fresh. Would do again in a pinch.

Why refrigerate for an hour? I don’t have timeeee. I tried serving right away and it was kinda runny. Still tasted good though, just messy.

  14. User avatar ernie.kutch1 says:

I thought it would be bland, but the pepper and garlic powder helped a lot. Also, using real shredded cheddar matters—pre-shredded didn’t feel as nice in the past.

Made this for game night—so creamy and cheesy! Waiting the full hour was totally worth it. Loved the bacon bits throughout.

    1. User avatar wellRespected says:

Yes!! This is exactly how I like my dips—creamy and loaded with cheese. I always underestimate the bacon quantity but it never disappoints.

Could you use turkey bacon instead? I’m tryin to eat healthy.🤔

This dip is a game changer! So cheesy and delicious. My friends loved it!

I’m skeptical that garlic powder is enough. Also 8 oz cream cheese feels like it won’t cover 1 cup cheddar—mine turned out weirdly grainy, maybe I overmixed?

  20. User avatar ling.wolff2017 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t refrigerate it long enough (only like 20 min) and it was kind of runny. But after a proper chill, it was way better.

  21. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

This dip is absolutely delicious! Made it for my party and it was gone in minutes! Everyone loved it!

  22. User avatar michal.durgan50 says:

    4 stars
I followed the recipe but mine turned out a bit thick—maybe my sour cream was extra heavy. Still delicious though with chips.

  23. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

Not bad, but it felt like it needed something acidic. A squeeze of lemon or a dash of hot sauce would probably make it pop.

    1. User avatar Carlita Streich IV says:

      3 stars
I can see that, but I’m not sure about lemon. I tried adding hot sauce to dips once and it made it taste weirdly bitter to me. Maybe just a tiny bit though? 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar kenneth.klein says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—something acidic would cut through the cream cheese/cheddar richness. Lemon juice or even a little pickle brine could “pop” it for sure. 👍

  24. 2 stars
I followed the recipe exactly, but it was way too salty for my taste. Not making again.

  25. User avatar german.bergstrom39 says:

    5 stars
Yum! I ate it all myself 😋

    1. 5 stars
That sounds so good! I can never resist it either! 😍

    2. User avatar buddy.mclaughlin66 says:

      3 stars
Wow, you ate it all? Are you sure that’s enough for one? 🤔

  26. User avatar Wes Terry II says:

    3 stars
it was ok, but too cheesy for my taste. I guess I like less cheese? idk.

  27. User avatar beula.langworth75 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but mine came out a little thick. Maybe my cream cheese was less soft than I thought? Still tasty though with chips.

  28. 5 stars
Made this for game night and it vanished fast. The combo of cheddar + bacon is perfect, and chilling it for an hour really helps it firm up.

  29. 3 stars
Not bad, but I found it a little salty. I used center-cut bacon and still… maybe my bacon was stronger. Would probably cut with extra sour cream or use less bacon.

  30. User avatar clarita.fritsch89 says:

    5 stars
Super easy and tastes like the dip you’d buy at a deli. Next time I’ll add a little more garlic powder because I like it punchy.

    1. User avatar raeann.mayer46 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this is basically deli-style comfort food. I also bumped the garlic powder and it made a big difference for me.

  31. User avatar Effrafax of Wug says:

    3 stars
The garlic powder was a little overpowering for my taste. I think I’d cut it in half next time and let the bacon/cheddar lead.

    1. User avatar yun.jakubowski says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—garlic powder can be punchy. Cutting it in half and letting the bacon/cheddar be the main flavor sounds spot on. I’ve done that with dips before and it’s way more balanced.

    2. User avatar suzanna.runolfsdottir73 says:

      4 stars
Hmmm I kinda like the garlic powder, but yeah mine was strong once too. Next time I might start with 1/2 tsp first, taste, then add more. Also I used fresh minced garlic one time and it was way too much lol.

  32. User avatar Draugr Wight says:

    4 stars
Followed it exactly and it came out thick and creamy. Next time I might add a little more garlic because I like it punchier, but overall super solid dip.

  33. 5 stars
This is dangerously good. The bacon + cheddar combo is spot on, and the 1 hour chill really makes it taste more “set” instead of just creamy. I served it with carrots and didn’t regret it at all.

  34. User avatar Cassiopeia says:

    3 stars
It was okay. Kinda salty from the bacon, and I forgot to refrigerate it long enough so it was runnier. Would make again but adjust bacon amount.

  35. User avatar ronda.parisian16 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid dip. I used extra sharp cheddar and it kicked it up a notch. Next time I’ll probably add a pinch of smoked paprika too.
