Apple and Cinnamon Samosas

August 8, 2023

Apple and Cinnamon Samosas bring a delicious fusion of flavors to the table by combining the warm comfort of spiced apples with the crisp, golden crunch of traditional samosa pastry. These sweet samosas are perfect for when you want something cozy, nostalgic, and just a little unexpected. Whether served as a dessert, an afternoon snack, or a festive treat, they offer all the charm of apple pie wrapped in a flaky, handheld package.

The filling is simple yet full of flavor. Tart apples like Granny Smith or Pink Lady are diced and cooked down gently with cinnamon, a hint of nutmeg, brown sugar, and a splash of lemon juice. This mixture softens into a sweet-spiced filling that feels like autumn in every bite. Some versions also include raisins or chopped nuts for extra texture and richness.

Instead of using pie crust or puff pastry, these samosas stick to the traditional thin, triangular shell. The dough is rolled out and filled with a spoonful of the apple mixture, then folded and sealed into classic samosa shapes. Once assembled, they’re either fried to a golden crisp or brushed with butter and baked for a lighter version that’s just as satisfying.

The result is a perfect contrast of textures—crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. The cinnamon-sugar aroma that fills the kitchen while they cook is reason enough to make a batch. And because they’re portioned individually, they’re great for sharing or serving at parties.

For an extra treat, serve Apple and Cinnamon Samosas with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce. They also pair beautifully with a cup of masala chai or hot spiced cider.

In essence, Apple and Cinnamon Samosas are a creative twist on a classic dessert, blending familiar fall flavors with a beloved South Asian snack format. They’re easy to love, fun to make, and perfect for adding a little warmth and sweetness to any occasion.

My apples turned brown before I could use them. Maybe add something to prevent that? Cinnamin samosas just sounded wrong too.

You should add some lemon juice to keep the apples from browning! And trust me, cinnamon and apples are a classic combo. Don’t knock it till you try it!

Lemon juice sounds complicated for just apples. And use a little vinegar if you ask me! But yeah, cinnamon samosas? Weird!

Took me ages to fold right, but worth it in the end, they taste too good.

Is it supposed to be lemon juice? I thought it was some other fruit juice. Mine tasted weird.

This is just a fancy apple pie. Samosas should be savory. Disappointed.

This recipe is simple, but you have to be quick with the pastry! I forgot and it dried out. Oops!

  12. User avatar winfred.tromp83 says:

How can it be samosas if they’re not fried? Feels like cheating. But they do look nice.

Why are you using filo pastry? Why not just make regular dumplings? Seems too complicated.

    1. 5 stars
Filo pastry gives a nice crunch compared to regular dumplings. It’s not complicated if you follow the steps! Trust me, they taste amazing!

  33. User avatar elvera.price says:

Waste of time. The filo just fell apart and it was a nightmare! 👎

  34. 4 stars
Delicious but not as easy as it looks in the pic. Next time, I might just buy store-bought pastry.

    1. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

      4 stars
Yeah, they never turn out like the pics, do they? But good on you for trying again! 🤗

  37. 2 stars
I don’t have all those ingredients. Can I just use normal pastry? 🙄

  38. User avatar alla.pouros says:

Honestly, I didn’t think apples belonged in samosas. But my wife loved it, so what do I know? 🤷‍♂️ 4 stars.

    1. 5 stars
Apples in samosas? That’s a twist! But if your wife loved it, that’s what matters! 😊
