Frozen Pina Colada Slushy

July 18, 2025

A Frozen Piña Colada Slushy is the perfect tropical treat to cool down on a hot day, offering a refreshing and indulgent combination of coconut, pineapple, and rum, all blended into a slushy, icy perfection. This vibrant and fun drink instantly transports you to a sunny beach, making it the ultimate summer refreshment.

The beauty of a Frozen Piña Colada Slushy is in its simplicity. The ingredients are familiar -pineapple, coconut cream or milk, and rum, yet they come together to create something truly special. The slushy texture is what sets this drink apart from a typical Piña Colada. Blending it with ice gives it that perfect icy crunch, which makes each sip even more enjoyable. It’s like enjoying a frozen dessert and cocktail in one.

The sweetness of the pineapple and the creaminess of the coconut make a balanced base, while the rum adds just the right amount of kick. The best part? You can easily adjust the ingredients to suit your taste. Want a stronger coconut flavor? Add more coconut milk or cream. Prefer your drink a little less sweet? Add less pineapple and balance with a touch of lime for a citrusy twist.

Frozen Piña Colada Slushies are versatile and perfect for all kinds of occasions. They make a fun and festive drink for pool parties, barbecues, or casual get-togethers with friends. If you’re hosting a tropical-themed party or simply craving something refreshing on a hot afternoon, these slushies hit the spot.

Non-alcoholic versions of the Piña Colada Slushy are also a great option for those who want a tropical drink without the booze. Just omit the rum and enjoy the same sweet and creamy flavors. The frozen consistency and tropical vibes are enough to make anyone feel like they’re on vacation.

Yum! This recipe is so easy. I made it with fresh pineapple instead of frozen and it worked great!

I don’t know about using fresh. Isn’t it supposed to be frozen to be a slushy? Just sounds weird to me.

    2. 5 stars
That sounds delicious! Fresh pineapple must add a nice touch. I’ll have to try that next time.

  2. User avatar william.schumm says:

    5 stars
This is the best slushy recipe ever! I added a little more rum, and wow! Refreshing!

  3. User avatar salena.pagac2013 says:

    3 stars
It was okay, but too sweet for my taste. Maybe less sugar next time?

    1. User avatar lorrine.turner says:

      4 stars
I agree, it can be too sweet! You can also use unsweetened coconut milk to cut down the sweetness.

    2. 2 stars
Not sweet enough for me! I love the sugar in it. Just add more rum if you feel it’s too sweet!

  4. User avatar Hasimir Fenring says:

    3 stars
I used lite coconut milk, so maybe that’s why it wasn’t creamy enough. But still nice!

    1. 4 stars
Using lite coconut milk does change the texture for sure! Glad you still enjoyed it. Maybe try full-fat next time for that creamy goodness!

  5. 4 stars
Do I have to use rum? Can I leave it out and still taste good?

  6. User avatar billy.parisian57 says:

    5 stars
10/10 would recommend! Tastes like summer in a glass! ☀️

    1. User avatar carli.haag says:

      3 stars
Sounds good, but isn’t coconut milk kinda unhealthy? I prefer my drinks without too much fat.

    2. User avatar rebecka.nitzsche76 says:

      5 stars
I agree! This recipe is a perfect taste of summer! 🌴

  7. User avatar arlie.jaskolski69 says:

    2 stars
Meh. I thought it would be better. Just tastes like pineapple smoothie.

    1. 4 stars
I don’t know what you expected! It’s a slushy, not a five-course meal. Enjoy it for what it is!

    2. User avatar elwood.veum says:

      5 stars
Maybe yours just wasn’t blended enough? I tried it, and it was so refreshing!

  8. User avatar Blue Dartwing says:

    2 stars
I have to say, mine came out kinda watery… not sure what I did wrong. Hmm…

    1. User avatar Android 19 says:

      4 stars
Maybe you used too much coconut milk? Try less next time! Just a thought.

    2. User avatar ulysses.feeney says:

      3 stars
Watery? That’s strange! I think you might’ve needed to add more ice or just blend it longer. Keep trying!

  9. User avatar steve.ryan2000 says:

    5 stars
I tried this at a party and everyone loved it! Made me feel like I was on a beach.

  10. User avatar elmira.kuhic28 says:

    4 stars
Quick and simple! Next time going to add some mint leaves for that extra flavor!

  11. User avatar Paulina Lockman says:

    1 star
One star. Pineapple + rum should not be blended with ice like a smoothie, feels like a frozen drink fails. I’m sticking to real cocktails.

    1. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

      3 stars
One star?? Seems a little harsh. If you want a classic, sure, stir/shake and don’t blend. But frozen pineapple + rum + ice is literally how you make it slushy. Maybe try blending less if it’s too “smoothie-ish” for you.

    2. 4 stars
I kind of get what you mean, but a slushy pina colada is still a cocktail vibe—just blended and chilled. The ice is there to get that texture right, not to turn it into a smoothie for me.

  12. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

    4 stars
Quick and easy! But u really need good rum for it to be tasty.

  13. User avatar halflife4 says:

    5 stars
I added some mint for extra flavor! Delicious! 🌿🍍

  14. User avatar yolande.volkman says:

    5 stars
Yum! Perfect for chilling on the porch! 🌴🍹

  15. User avatar Shantay Ward DDS says:

    3 stars
I tried it without the sugar and it was too sour for me. Gotta have that sweet taste.

    1. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      3 stars
More sugar! That’s what gives it that nice flavor. But too each their own, I guess.

    2. 5 stars
I totally get that! The balance of sweet and sour is so important. Maybe try adding a bit of honey next time?

  16. User avatar emmitt.lesch1983 says:

    5 stars
Easy peasy! I made this for my party and everyone loved it!

  17. User avatar Android 18 says:

    2 stars
I tried making it without the rum and it was super bland. Won’t make again.

  18. User avatar darcey.kautzer says:

    4 stars
Can u substitute coconut milk with almond milk? Anyone tried that?

    1. User avatar thomasena.gerhold13 says:

      4 stars
I think you can, but it won’t be the same creamy texture. Almond milk is thinner. I’ve tried it and it’s good too!

  19. 4 stars
I didn’t have rum, so I used vodka instead. Still good!

    1. User avatar macie.marvin53 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, man. Vodka in Pina Colada? That’s not right. It should be rum. Might as well call it something else.

    2. User avatar cleveland.marquardt65 says:

      4 stars
Nice! Vodka works too. I like experimenting with different spirits in my cocktails!

  20. User avatar Vroomfondel says:

    3 stars
Not my fav drink. It’s a bit weird.. but still drinkable.

  21. User avatar katelyn.kutch67 says:

    5 stars
This recipe was delicious! Perfect for summer.

  22. User avatar jin.muller93 says:

    3 stars
Honestly, I think it’s too sweet with that sugar. Just use the pineapple’s natural sweetness! 🥥

  23. 5 stars
This is sooo good! Almost like being on a beach! ☀️🍹

  24. User avatar agueda.schimmel56 says:

    3 stars
Sugar is optional they said… I tried without it and it was too sweet for my taste? Weird but maybe my pineapple was already very sweet.

  25. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    4 stars
Hmmm… pineapple + coconut + rum is classic, but this recipe feels like it’s missing lime? Could be better with a squeeze of lime.

  26. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    3 stars
I added a little more ice but my blender struggled—ended up more “thick smoothie” than slushy. Still tasty though.

  27. User avatar mariah.huel1985 says:

    4 stars
Yum! Made this for my friends, they loved it! Never thought coconut milk would make it so creamy!

  28. User avatar phuong.rippin41 says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously easy—blended in like 2 minutes. The coconut milk makes it way more “real” than I expected. Tastes like a vacation.

    1. User avatar ricardo.hudson30 says:

      5 stars
I totally get that—2 minutes feels suspiciously easy 😄 I’ve made it with a little extra coconut milk and it’s *so* smooth. Great tip on blending until creamy; it really makes it taste like a vacation.

  29. 3 stars
The flavor is good, but it came out more like a thick smoothie than a true slushy. Next time I’ll use less coconut milk or maybe more ice.

  30. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    2 stars
Seems too simple. Are you sure it’ll taste good? Can’t trust just a few ingredients.

  31. User avatar jeanie.paucek says:

    3 stars
I only had lite coconut milk, so it wasn’t as creamy. Still tasty though, like a lighter pina colada vibe.

  32. User avatar zackary.monahan39 says:

    1 star
Pina colada slushy? More like frozen disappointment! 😒 Not my thing.

    1. User avatar rosalva.kozey67 says:

      4 stars
I think it’s delicious! You just need to make it right. Maybe your blender’s not strong enough? 😅

    2. User avatar emile.stokes says:

      5 stars
Not everyone likes it, but I love a good slushy! Perfect for summer. 🍹

  33. User avatar jamal.satterfield says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, mine was super icy at first. I think I needed more ice blending time. After a good 60 seconds it turned smooth.

  34. 4 stars
Used dark rum instead and it still worked (kinda like a piña colada-adjacent). I skipped the sugar and it was sweet enough for me.

    1. User avatar carlton.windler1989 says:

      3 stars
I don’t know about dark rum with pineapple + coconut… that sounds like it might get kinda bitter? But if you say it worked “kinda,” I guess I’ll try—maybe use less rum. Sweetness without sugar worries me though.

    2. User avatar Frostbite Spider says:

      5 stars
Nice! Dark rum giving it a more caramel/vanilla vibe totally makes sense. Glad it still turned out tasty even without the sugar—piña colada energy achieved 😄

  35. User avatar tammera.sporer30 says:

    2 stars
It was too sweet for me. Wish I hadn’t added sugar.

  36. User avatar lonnie.kling95 says:

    4 stars
I don’t drink rum, so I swapped in coconut cream + a little vanilla. Still slushy and nice, just more dessert-like than cocktail-like.

  37. 4 stars
Wasn’t gonna make it because don’t like coconut much, but tried my friends and wow, still good lol.

  38. User avatar marvin.wuckert says:

    5 stars
OMG, this is the best drink ever! I love how refreshing it is. 100% gonna make it again!

  39. User avatar andrew.stanton34 says:

    4 stars
I just blended it all together, no fussing around. Tasted fine. Who needs measuring?

  40. User avatar missy.senger says:

    3 stars
Tasty but I think it needed more sugar. My kids didn’t drink it! Next time I add double! 😜

  41. 1 star
Why don’t I just pour some coconut milk in a glass and call it a drink? 🤷‍♀️

  42. 3 stars
Not the authentic taste I expected. Where’s the fresh pineapple? 🤔

    1. 4 stars
I think fresh pineapple is overrated! The frozen chunks work just fine for that slushy texture. 😄

  43. User avatar chung.king75 says:

    5 stars
Love love LOVE this! The coconut milk makes it super creamy. Can’t believe how easy it is to make!

  44. User avatar michael.smith1952 says:

    1 star
Where can I get frozen pineapple chunks? Do I have to make them myself? 🤔

  45. User avatar armand.stamm1966 says:

    5 stars
This frozen pina colada slushy is soooo good! Perfect for hot summer days! 🍹

  46. User avatar janyce.blanda62 says:

    2 stars
the rum part is confusing, how much do I put in? A cup too? 🤔

  47. User avatar yaeko.beer34 says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously good. Super creamy for a slushy—like a pina colada that’s actually ready fast. I used a splash less rum and added a bit more sugar since my pineapple was tart.

  48. 5 stars
This was so refreshing! Perfect for summer days. I added a little extra rum though 😉

    1. User avatar johnny.harvey says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! The extra rum is a great idea. Can’t wait to try it myself!

    2. User avatar zetta.walker2023 says:

      3 stars
Really? More rum? I thought it was supposed to be a tropical drink, not a party punch. 🤨

  49. User avatar Falmer Warmonger says:

    2 stars
One cup ice seems like too much—mine melted fast and got runny. Next time I’ll reduce ice and chill the coconut milk first.

  50. User avatar shawnta.vandervort1952 says:

    3 stars
Eh, not a fan. It tasted way too strong with the rum. Is 2 oz really necessary?

  51. User avatar mariko.mitchell says:

    3 stars
I don’t get why rum is “to taste” when it’s 2 oz in the recipe lol. Also I used light coconut milk and it wasn’t as good—full-fat matters.

  52. 3 stars
I dunno, mine turned out too slushy. Maybe I added too much ice?

  53. User avatar twanda.moen2008 says:

    4 stars
What if I skip the rum? It still tastes like pina colada or will it be sad?

  54. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, I thought the coconut milk would make it heavy, but it’s fine. I might cut the rum next time though—2 oz felt a bit strong for me, and I’m not even a lightweight 😅

  55. 5 stars
This is the best drink ever! I made it for my friends and they loved it!

  56. User avatar dawn.krajcik says:

    2 stars
I tried making this but it turned out super watery. Maybe I added too much coconut milk? 🤷‍♀️

    1. User avatar summer.carter18 says:

      4 stars
I think the amount of coconut milk can really change the consistency. Maybe try reducing it next time? I love this recipe otherwise! 😊

    2. User avatar Fermin Hettinger says:

      3 stars
Watery? That’s strange. Are you sure you used frozen pineapple? Fresh can mess things up. 🤔

  57. User avatar velva.koepp1950 says:

    4 stars
Easy to make, and the texture is spot on. I let it blend a little longer than usual so it went fully smooth. Tastes like vacation without the work.

  58. User avatar huong.runolfsdottir39 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know about this… I tried it and it turned out way too thick like ice cream. Maybe my blender isn’t strong enough?

  59. 5 stars
Super simple, like 3 steps and done. I served it with lime zest on top and everyone asked for the recipe.

    1. 5 stars
Love this—3 steps is my kind of recipe. I’ll try it with lime zest too!

  60. User avatar Draugr Wight says:

    3 stars
Kinda simple recipe for pro chefs like me, but I guess it’s good for beginners. Also, rum should be optional, you know?

  61. User avatar judie.torp1957 says:

    5 stars
Yum! I don’t even drink but this is a great summer refresher! Pineapples are sooo sweet!

  62. 4 stars
Just tried this recipe and it was AMAZING! I might add a little more rum next time though 😉

  63. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    4 stars
yum!!! 🍹 just what I needed after a hot day. The rum makes it fun!

    1. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      5 stars
Absolutely agree! Nothing like a cold Pina Colada on a hot day. Cheers! 🍹

    2. User avatar isreal.mcclure says:

      3 stars
I dunno, rum in drinks always gives me a headache later. But maybe that’s just me. 🤷‍♀️

  64. User avatar shon.stoltenberg1962 says:

    4 stars
The pineapple chunks being frozen is key, otherwise it turns watery. My first try with not-frozen pineapple was gross, but fixed it and it improved.

    1. User avatar noel.pollich68 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Frozen pineapple makes such a difference—fresh pineapple always turns into that watery mess for me too. Great catch.

  65. User avatar Frost Atronach says:

    4 stars
Loved it! The coconut milk makes it feel richer than I expected. I skipped the sugar and it was still sweet enough.

    1. User avatar cassey.morar says:

      3 stars
Huh, I tried it once and it was too tangy for me even with sugar. Also, 2 oz rum feels like a lot—maybe next time I’ll cut it back and see. Still sounds good though!

    2. User avatar warner.hartmann62 says:

      5 stars
Glad it worked for you! The coconut milk really does make it extra creamy. I usually add just a splash of rum too—love how customizable it is.

  66. User avatar clarence.reynolds25 says:

    4 stars
Loved the coconut flavor, but I’d cut back on the rum next time. It still tastes great even with less alcohol and the slush texture is perfect.

  67. User avatar joella.senger93 says:

    4 stars
Looks good on paper, but “blend until smooth and creamy” depends on your blender. Mine took forever—still, worth it.

    1. User avatar herta.becker says:

      2 stars
Mine didn’t come out smooth… I had to add more coconut milk and even then it was kinda lumpy. Also used dark rum by accident, tasted weird but still ok. Not sure if it depends on the pineapple.

    2. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—mine “smooth” took a good minute too. I started with pulsing first and then kept going, and it finally turned creamy. Delicious either way!

  68. 3 stars
I don’t like cocunut so I skipped on the milk and it was still good, but not as rich. Still a yummy slush!

  69. User avatar brittany.smitham1963 says:

    2 stars
This stuff is bad. My drink tasted weird. Am I supposed to use fresh pineapples instead of frozen?

  70. User avatar Hasimir Fenring says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously good. The coconut + pineapple combo tastes like a tropical vacation, and the slushy texture came out perfect.

  71. User avatar arnulfo.bogisich says:

    5 stars
Wow, so good. I made it for friends and everyone asked for the recipe. Would totally make again for summer nights.

  72. User avatar olin.bernier55 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about rum in a slushy. But it actually tastes great—very balanced and refreshing.

  73. User avatar golden.hammes72 says:

    2 stars
Might just be easier to go to a bar and get one. No blender mess.

  74. User avatar deirdre.towne52 says:

    3 stars
umm i did 2 oz rum and it tasted like regular pineapple juice lol maybe i measured wrong… still good tho

  75. User avatar eric.fay says:

    5 stars
Five stars for the vibe alone. I served it in a chilled glass and everyone thought I bought it. The smell is amazing.

  76. User avatar lizzzard says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about adding rum, but it blends really well. I skipped the sugar since my pineapple was already sweet—still delicious.

  77. User avatar terrell.bartoletti says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously easy—tastes like a vacation. I used a little extra rum and it came out super smooth.

    1. User avatar ludivina.reichel says:

      5 stars
Seriously—same here! I tried it last night and it was like instant vacation vibes. I did 2 oz rum too and it stayed really smooth with no weird icy bits.

    2. 3 stars
Okay but… is it actually “frozen” enough? Mine ended up more like a drink than a slushy even with the 1 cup ice. Maybe my blender’s weak or I didn’t use the pineapple cold enough lol. Still tasted good though.

  78. User avatar Timothy Kovacek says:

    2 stars
Not sure why you’d put rum in it at all when you can just do a virgin version. Also my coconut milk was watery and it didn’t freeze well.

    1. User avatar merrill.klocko1982 says:

      4 stars
I get the “why rum?” point—though for me it’s what makes it feel like a true pina colada. That said, you can absolutely swap it for more ice or even a splash of pineapple juice for the same vibe.

    2. 5 stars
My coconut milk was kinda watery too once 😅—I think it depends on the brand/if it separated. I’ll try full-fat canned and chill it first. Without good coconut it won’t freeze right.

  79. User avatar antonio.cormier1993 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is a tropical dream! So refreshing and perfect for summer. I added a splash of lime juice for extra zing!

  80. 5 stars
This is dangerously easy. The pineapple+coconut combo tastes like a vacation, and the slushy texture is perfect. I used a little extra rum “to taste” and it worked great.

  81. User avatar Sue Render says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously easy—blended up in minutes and tastes like a vacation. I used a little more pineapple and it was super smooth. 10/10 for summer nights.

  82. User avatar evelynn.harvey says:

    2 stars
I’m skeptical that 1 cup frozen pineapple + 1 cup ice works without being watery. It might, but my blender struggled and it came out uneven.

  83. 2 stars
I followed the recipe exactly and it came out kinda icy, not really creamy. Maybe my blender is weak or my pineapple wasn’t frozen solid. Still tasty, just not that “smooth” they promised.

  84. User avatar kent.von54 says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, mine came out too icy even after blending. I think my pineapple wasn’t really frozen-frozen. Any tips on making it creamier?

  85. User avatar curt.tremblay says:

    2 stars
I don’t understand the measurements—2 oz rum is kinda vague. Also is 1 cup ice even enough? Mine was icy and not very cohesive.

  86. User avatar Spider Guardian says:

    4 stars
I followed the recipe but my blender struggled a bit. I had to add more ice/ice cubes and blend longer. Once it smoothed out though, it was creamy and refreshing.

  87. User avatar vannesa.borer says:

I used less rum and added a splash of lime. Came out tart and refreshing, but still creamy. Definitely making again for summer nights.

I followed it exactly and it was okay, but kind of bland. Maybe my pineapple was not sweet enough—I’ll adjust sugar next time.

Boring. Kinda tastes like sweet pineapple water. Maybe my rum was bad? I dunno, it just didn’t wow me.

Sorry it didn’t hit for you! If it tasted like sweet pineapple water, I wonder if the coconut milk was on the low side or if it didn’t blend long enough to get fully creamy. Also, rum can definitely make or break it—bad/old rum (or one that’s too harsh) might flatten the flavor. I’d try a chilled blender, blend a bit longer, and taste for sweetness before adding extra sugar or rum.

Soooo good. Like, I could drink this all day. Also the chilled glass tip is legit.
