Piña Colada

August 7, 2024

The Piña Colada is the drink that defines tropical relaxation. With its smooth blend of coconut, pineapple, and rum, it’s like a mini vacation in a glass. This cocktail is the perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and fruity, making it the ideal drink for warm days by the pool or fun nights with friends.

At its core, a classic Piña Colada is made with three simple ingredients: rum, coconut cream or coconut milk, and pineapple juice. The rich, velvety texture of the coconut cream brings a creamy smoothness, while the pineapple juice adds a refreshing tang and sweetness. The rum provides a warm, mellow kick that ties it all together, giving the drink its signature tropical flair.

What makes this cocktail stand out is its versatility. You can blend it with ice for a frozen, slushy version that’s perfect for summer days or simply mix it with ice for a chilled, relaxed feel. Either way, it’s a drink that’s both refreshing and indulgent.

For the garnish, a slice of pineapple, a maraschino cherry, or even a small umbrella can add that extra festive touch. If you’re in the mood to get creative, you can also add a squeeze of lime to balance the sweetness or a splash of grenadine for a pop of color and a hint of extra sweetness. The Piña Colada is easy to make but still feels fancy and special every time.

Though it’s often associated with beach vacations and tropical getaways, the Piña Colada is the perfect drink to bring a bit of that sunshine vibe to your home. It’s perfect for casual gatherings, backyard barbecues, or even just sipping on a quiet afternoon when you want to treat yourself.

Whether you’re in the mood for something sweet, refreshing, or just a little bit indulgent, the Piña Colada never fails to deliver that tropical bliss with every sip.

Simple and refreshing! My kids loved it (minus the rum, of course). Will be making this all summer! ☀️

    1. User avatar dominica.ledner says:

Sounds great, but not really a kids drink, right? Just saying… they don’t need to try the rum one day haha.

    2. 5 stars
I’m so glad to hear your kids loved it! Even without the rum, it sounds like a perfect summer drink. 🍍☀️ Enjoy!

  2. 4 stars
So easy, even my kids helped out! Great summer drink! 🍍🥥

  3. 4 stars
Used coconut milk instead and it was still good. But like, why heavy cream tho?

    1. User avatar jonnie.green84 says:

      5 stars
I know right? Heavy cream is so extra! Coconut milk is a great substitute, and it still tastes amazing!

  4. 4 stars
Is coconut cream the same as coconut milk? Asking for a friend. 🤔

  5. 2 stars
Not really my thing. A bit too sweet for my taste. Maybe I’ll try reducing the pineapple juice next time.

  6. User avatar Dr. Adaline Gibson says:

    5 stars
YUM! I used frozen pineapple instead of fresh, and it was still amazing. Can’t wait to have another one! 🍍

  7. 2 stars
I don’t think rums are supposed to mix with ice cream… I mean cream?! That’s just wrong!

    1. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      4 stars
I totally disagree! Ice cream and rum can make a great combo if done right! Ever tried rum cake? It’s delicious!

  8. User avatar bernard.ferry1997 says:

This is the best Piña Colada recipe I’ve ever tried! So creamy and delicious. 😍

Yuck! This was way too sweet for me. I expected it to be more fruity. Never again! 😖

    1. 4 stars
I actually thought it was perfect! Sweet drinks are the best, especially on a hot day. Maybe you should try using less juice next time? 🤷‍♂️

  10. 4 stars
Whaaaat? You can make this at home? Mind blown! 😂

I tried substituting with almond milk and it didn’t work. Ughhhh!

    1. User avatar kaycee.quitzon43 says:

      4 stars
Almond milk is too thin for this recipe! You need the creaminess of coconut cream to get that classic Piña Colada taste. Maybe try with real milk next time?

  15. 2 stars
Too much cream! Next time I’ll just use crushed pineapple. 🙅‍♂️

  16. 3 stars
Too much coconut for my taste. I prefer a more fruity flavor.

    1. User avatar dawna.wunsch81 says:

      4 stars
I get what you’re saying! A little less coconut would definitely let the pineapple shine more. Maybe try adding some extra juice next time?

  17. 5 stars
Pina coladas make me feel like I’m on a beach, even in my kitchen! 🍹

  18. 3 stars
I followed the recipe, but it didn’t taste very strong! Where’s the rum? Might need to add more next time.

Piña colada is like my fav drink, but this recipe is just too messy to make. 😩

    1. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! The mess can be a real hassle, but it’s so worth it for that taste! 🍹

  21. User avatar jarvis.bernier88 says:

    3 stars
This was too sweet for my taste. Maybe less coconut cream next time?

  22. User avatar broderick.lakin93 says:

I just wanna say this is NOT a real piña colada if it has cream in it. Stick to the classics.

  23. User avatar loren.adams29 says:

    3 stars
Uh, I think there’s too much cream in this. Aren’t Piña Coladas supposed to be lighter? 🤔

  24. 5 stars

  25. User avatar amada.bartell1976 says:

  26. User avatar shawn.zieme59 says:

    3 stars
Kinda skeptical about the heavy cream. Doesn’t sound very tropical. 🤔

    1. User avatar errol.pouros1983 says:

      4 stars
I get your point! But the heavy cream makes it super creamy, which some people love. 🌴🥥

  27. User avatar chara.schmitt says:

    4 stars
Great recipe! But can we use vodka instead of rum?

    1. User avatar linda.volkman70 says:

      4 stars
I think vodka would totally change the flavor! Stick with rum for the true piña colada vibe.

    2. User avatar Jamie Flatley says:

      3 stars
Why not? Vodka’s just like, a plain alcohol, right? Might work fine!

  28. User avatar sergio.deckow says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make! Throwing everything in a blender is always my style.

  29. User avatar Falmer Shaman says:

    5 stars
Yummy! Can I use frozen pineapple instead? Asking for a friend. 😅

  30. User avatar garret.grant73 says:

    2 stars
Not a fan. It’s too creamy for my taste. I prefer mine more fruity.

    1. 4 stars
I totally get that! Creamy isn’t for everyone. Have you tried adding more fruit to it? Maybe blend some extra pineapple or add mango? That could give it a refreshing twist!

  31. User avatar jacelyn.kshlerin51 says:

Is this recipe even real? Like, who drinks those? Just seems too fancy. Probably tastes good tho.

  34. User avatar burl.littel30 says:

I tried it but didn’t have fresh pineapple juice, used canned instead. Tasted okay, but not great.

  35. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    2 stars
Too much cream for my liking. I like it light and fruity. 😕

  36. 1 star
Tasted kinda weird to me. Maybe I don’t like rum? But hey, at least the cherry was good.

  37. User avatar dana.bernhard28 says:

    3 stars
Hmm I didn’t have coconut cream, so I used cottage cheese instead. Not the same but hey it worked.

    1. 2 stars
I guess you gotta use what you got! But wow, cottage cheese in a piña colada? Are you sure it was good?

    2. User avatar Duncan Idaho says:

      4 stars
Cottage cheese? Really? That’s a bold choice! I would never think of that. I’m curious how it turned out!

I followed the recipe but mine turned out too watery. Maybe my pineapple juice was too thin? Not sure. 🤔

  41. User avatar Deep Thought says:

    4 stars
Good, but I’m not a fan of cream in my drinks. Can I skip the heavy cream? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar wade.skiles6 says:

      5 stars
You can definitely skip the heavy cream! Just add a bit more coconut cream if you want it creamy. 😄
