French Apple Tart

June 2, 2025

The French Apple Tart is a classic dessert that embodies the elegance and simplicity of French baking. Known for its buttery, flaky pastry crust and sweet, perfectly arranged apple slices, this tart is a beautiful combination of textures and flavors. Whether served as a special treat for a dinner party or enjoyed with a cup of tea, the French Apple Tart is sure to impress with its timeless appeal.

The crust is the foundation of any great tart, and in this recipe, it is made from a pâte sucrée, a sweet, shortcrust pastry that’s both crisp and tender. This delicate crust is easy to make and provides a rich, buttery base that complements the sweetness of the apples. It is blind-baked before adding the filling to ensure it stays crisp and doesn’t become soggy.

The filling of a French Apple Tart is typically made from a layer of almond cream, known as frangipane, which adds a nutty richness to the tart. The frangipane is spread evenly across the bottom of the tart crust before being topped with thinly sliced apples. The apples are usually arranged in an elegant spiral pattern, creating a beautiful design that’s as pleasing to the eye as it is to the taste buds.

To finish off the tart, it is glazed with a warm apricot jam or honey syrup to give it a glossy, sweet finish. This glaze not only adds a beautiful sheen but also enhances the flavor, giving the tart a subtle sweetness that balances the tartness of the apples.

The French Apple Tart is the perfect dessert for any occasion. It is refined yet simple, with a perfect balance of rich pastry, smooth almond cream, and tender apples. It’s an ideal way to showcase the flavor of seasonal apples and add a touch of French culinary tradition to your table.

Perfect balance of sweet and spice! My new go-to recipe for apple tart!

Not impressed. My mom’s apple pie is way better. Sorry.

You put nutmeg? I don’t know about that! I always thought cinnamon was enough. 🤷‍♀️

    1. User avatar philip.macejkovic70 says:

      5 stars
Nutmeg adds a warm flavor that really complements the cinnamon! You should try it!

Can I use regular sugar instead of brown sugar? What’s the difference?

This tart is absolutely delicious! My family devoured it in minutes!

Epic fail! The crust was way too crumbly and fell apart. Any tips?

This was my first dessert attempt and it turned out way better than expected! Yay me!

I thought it would be easy to make, but it was super complicated. Not for beginners!

    1. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

      4 stars
I disagree! I found it quite simple once I got the hang of it. Practice makes perfect!

  9. 4 stars
So simple and tasty! Will definitely make this again for a family gathering! 😍

  10. User avatar wyatt.howe2018 says:

    4 stars
I honestly didn’t think I would like this but it was actually pretty good!

  11. User avatar shawn.tromp45 says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical of how simple this is for a “French” tart 😅 but honestly the result surprised me. Great flavor, and it didn’t feel overly sweet. My kids asked for seconds.

  12. User avatar dollie.stark2007 says:

    4 stars
I liked the flavor, but my crust shrank a bit and the bottom didn’t get as golden as I wanted. Next time I think I’ll press it more firmly and bake 5-10 minutes longer.

    1. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      3 stars
Mine did that once too. I think it’s because I wasn’t pressing the apples down enough? Also 375F seems kinda low to me—maybe go 400F and watch it. Still tastes good though!

    2. User avatar armand.muller50 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—pressing the dough more firmly usually helps with shrinkage. I also find chilling the tart pan/formed crust for 10–15 minutes before baking makes a big difference in staying put and browning.

  13. User avatar Death Hound says:

    5 stars
This tart was amazing! The apples were so sweet and the crust was flaky. Definitely making this again!

  14. User avatar betsey.lubowitz85 says:

    5 stars
This tart is amazing! My family devoured it in no time. The apple flavor is just perfection.

  15. User avatar gregory.windler says:

    4 stars
Apple tart? More like apple “pile” if you don’t really arrange the slices. I rushed that part, but it still tasted amazing.

  16. User avatar mauro.nolan says:

    2 stars
This recipe is easy to follow, but I wish it had a bit more detail. What does ‘cut in’ mean? I’m not a pro baker.

    1. User avatar edmond.bayer10 says:

      4 stars
Cut in means mixing the butter into the flour until it’s crumbly. Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it! This recipe sounds delicious!

  17. User avatar jason.kemmer says:

    5 stars
My mom made this for us all the time. Brings back so many memories. Thanks for sharing!

  18. User avatar Veola Lubowitz says:

Yum 😍! Best dessert ever! Got so many compliments at the dinner party. Will def make again.

  19. User avatar salvatore.macgyver77 says:

    5 stars
The measurements are simple and the instructions are clear. I love that it’s not overly fussy. My family ate it too fast.

  20. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    2 stars
Worst part was rolling the dough—it cracked and I had to patch it. Flavor was okay though. Maybe my butter wasn’t cold enough? 2 stars for effort, 3 for taste.

  21. 5 stars
This tart is absolutely scrumptious! The cinnamon really brings out the flavor of the apples. One of my new favs!

  22. User avatar Jerry Corkery says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid for a “French-style” apple tart. I like that it’s not overly complicated. Next time I’ll slice the apples a bit thinner so they cook more evenly in the 45 minutes.

  23. User avatar racheal.brakus1957 says:

    3 stars
umm the instructions are kinda vague? how thick should I roll the dough. but it came out okay anyway.

  24. User avatar Vroomfondel says:

    3 stars
Too sweet for my liking—next time I’ll cut the brown sugar in half or add a pinch more cinnamon to balance it. Texture was still good.

    1. User avatar marcy.cruickshank says:

      3 stars
Maybe your apples were extra sweet? I’d try Granny Smith next time. But also, 45 min might be too long—if they caramelize too much they get sugary fast. Not sure though.

    2. User avatar buford.schulist says:

      5 stars
I feel you—this tart definitely leans sweet with the 1/3 cup brown sugar. Cutting it in half (or swapping a bit of brown sugar for granulated) sounds like a great fix. Also agree on adding a touch more cinnamon for balance!

  25. User avatar willie.hahn31 says:

    3 stars
How many apples do I really need? 4 cups seems like a lot. Can I just eyeball it?

  26. User avatar marilee.gutmann34 says:

    3 stars
Wasn’t a fan of the nutmeg. Felt like it overpowered everything. I think I’ll skip that next time!

  27. User avatar vernetta.kilback93 says:

    5 stars
Super easy and family approved. The spices are perfect—cinnamon and nutmeg aren’t too strong. I cooled it like the recipe says and it sliced much better.

  28. 3 stars
Ugh, why use butter? Margarine is way cheaper and works same, right? Just sayin’.

    1. 5 stars
Butter adds so much flavor, though! Margarine just doesn’t cut it for baking. Trust me on this one.

  29. 2 stars
2 words: “Needs more.” More apples, more caramel vibes, more everything. But I’ll admit the spice blend is solid.

    1. User avatar rosaura.treutel1958 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—more apples would make it juicier and the spice-to-sweet ratio feel more balanced. I might even add an extra dash of cinnamon for that caramel vibe.

  30. User avatar delpha.block says:

    2 stars
I’m not a big fan of tart. This was ok but not something I’d make again.

  31. User avatar jeannine.gottlieb says:

    5 stars
I thought I was allergic to apples but this tart is just too good to resist! I might be cured LOL.

  32. 4 stars
Why is it called French if there’s no fancy technique? 😅 Still, it’s easy and comforting. I served it with vanilla ice cream and it was gone fast.

  33. User avatar ozie.reinger1980 says:

    4 stars
45 minutes felt short for my oven. I needed closer to 55-60 to get the apples tender and the crust properly golden.

  34. 5 stars
The nutmeg really made it. I only used 1/4 tsp like it says and it was perfect—warm not overpowering. Cooling is key so it doesn’t crumble.

  35. User avatar leigha.nienow33 says:

    3 stars
Tasted good but not sure if it’s worth the effort. I mean, it’s just apples and crust, right? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! But the flavor is sooo worth it! Those spices make all the difference! 🍏🥧

    2. 5 stars
It’s not just apples and crust! The nutmeg and cinnamon bring magic! You gotta try making it again, trust me!

  36. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    4 stars
Yum! I’ve never baked before, but this was easy enough for me. My friends loved it!

  37. User avatar maia.raynor says:

    4 stars
5 stars! Actually though, I didn’t peel the apples and it was still good. So maybe don’t stress too much?

  38. User avatar amee.turner92 says:

    3 stars
I followed it closely and it was okay, not mind-blowing. Maybe my spices were a bit heavy (or my apples were bland). Still a nice dessert.

    1. User avatar abram.russel55 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, that sounds about right. I’ve had apples be the difference-maker—if they’re not super sweet, it can taste kinda flat no matter how good the crust is. What kind of apples did you use?

  39. User avatar jules.rippin says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it’s honestly dangerously good. The cinnamon-nutmeg combo with the apples is perfect, and the crust came out flaky. Will repeat!

  40. User avatar rose.mraz77 says:

    2 stars
This was a disaster! My dough was so sticky, it wouldn’t even roll out. Not sure what went wrong. 😩

    1. 4 stars
I’m sorry to hear that! Sometimes flour can be too damp or you might need a bit more flour. Keep trying!

    2. User avatar seth.monahan30 says:

      3 stars
Sticky dough is the worst! 😩 I’ve had that happen too; it’s a pain. Did you maybe use the wrong kind of flour?

  41. User avatar Heimerdinger says:

    4 stars
Simple and delicious! I didn’t have nutmeg so I just used extra cinnamon. Still yum!

    1. User avatar wendy.balistreri31 says:

      5 stars
That sounds great! Extra cinnamon is a good idea. I might try that next time!

  42. 5 stars
Made this today—so cozy. The cinnamon + nutmeg smells AMAZING and the apples bake down perfectly after the full 45 minutes. Crust was a little crumbly but still delicious.

  43. 4 stars
So good! I used honey instead of brown sugar and it still tasted amazing! 👩‍🍳🍏

    1. 3 stars
Honey? Mmm, I don’t think that’s traditional! But whatever works for you. 🤷‍♂️

    2. 5 stars
Wow, I never thought about using honey! That’s innovative. 😍 I’ll have to try it that way!

  44. 3 stars
Is it really French? I thought apple pie was American. Anyway, it tastes good, but I’m still confused.

  45. User avatar kimbra.ryan59 says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and it was… fine. The crust tasted buttery but a little bland compared to other apple tarts I’ve had. Maybe I’ll bump up sugar or add vanilla next time.

  46. User avatar claudio.yundt1955 says:

    3 stars
Not sure why mine shrank—tart pan maybe? The dough was a bit crumbly when I put it in. Flavor is still great.

  47. 2 stars
Not gonna lie, I messed up step 4 and my dough was sticky. I added more flour and it worked—kinda. Texture was okay, not amazing.

  48. 3 stars
Not sure this is really “French” 😂. The dough is more like a simple tart crust, but the spices are on point. Would definitely make again for family.

    1. User avatar hyman.ondricka57 says:

      5 stars
Haha fair point 😂 It’s more of a “French-inspired” apple tart than a classic French pastry, but I’m glad the spices hit! Thanks for the kind words—sounds like it’ll be a hit with your family.

  49. 2 stars
I dunno, I feel like the crust was too crumbly. I followed the recipe to the letter but it just wouldn’t hold together.

  50. 2 stars
Too much work for a tart, in my opinion. Maybe I’m just lazy, but I’d rather buy one.

    1. User avatar remedios.cremin21 says:

      4 stars
I totally get where you’re coming from! Sometimes it’s just easier to grab one from the store. But trust me, this tart is definitely worth the effort if you have the time. 😄

  51. 2 stars
I followed it exactly and my apples were still a bit firm at 45 min. Maybe my slices were thicker? Also, the bottom crust got slightly underbaked. Would try a longer bake next time.

  52. 4 stars
I am a terrible cook but I did it! It’s not perfect but hey, it’s tasty!

    1. User avatar jolyn.daniel says:

      5 stars
Congratulations! It’s great that you gave it a shot. Cooking takes practice, and it’s awesome that it turned out tasty!

  53. User avatar gail.aufderhar75 says:

    4 stars
Made it for my friends and they loved it! I was a little nervous at first, but it turned out great!

  54. User avatar nick.brown73 says:

    5 stars
YUMMMM!!! I added some caramel sauce on top and it was divine!!!

  55. 5 stars
This tart is absolutely delicious! I made it for my family, and they couldn’t get enough. Definitely a five-star recipe!

  56. User avatar myron.buckridge1997 says:

    2 stars
Ok but… why “French” if it’s basically pie? 😅 Still tasty though. Mine tasted more like apple crumble than tart, but I’d eat it again.

  57. User avatar ayako.rempel22 says:

    3 stars
I dunno, mine didn’t turn out as good as I hoped. The crust was too crumbly. Maybe I added too much flour?

    1. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

      4 stars
It sounds like you might have been a bit heavy-handed with the flour. Next time, try adding it gradually. Good luck!

  58. User avatar whitley.vonrueden9 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid recipe. I had to add a bit more ice water than it said to get the dough to come together, but once I did, it rolled fine. Tastes like a real bakery tart.

  59. User avatar syreeta.buckridge1975 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about only 45 minutes, but the apples were tender and the crust browned nicely. I used slightly bigger apple slices and still worked.

    1. 4 stars
45 minutes seems kinda too short, but if the crust browned and apples got tender then I guess it’s legit. I might cut my apples a bit thinner though.

    2. User avatar herman.koch15 says:

      5 stars
Good to hear it worked with bigger slices—I’m always worried about timing with fruit tarts. I’ll try this next time!

  60. User avatar heriberto.weissnat says:

    3 stars
Why use brown sugar? White sugar is just fine and cheaper! Just sayin’!

    1. User avatar fletcher.predovic60 says:

      2 stars
Nah, I still think white sugar is better. Brown sugar just makes things sticky.

    2. 5 stars
Brown sugar adds a nice caramel flavor that white sugar just doesn’t give. Give it a try!

  61. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    3 stars
I tried it with margarine once instead of butter and it was greasy. So yeah—use real butter. Lesson learned.

  62. User avatar harris.walker says:

    1 star
Eh, it was okayish. My kids didn’t like it at all. Too many apples maybe? They wanted chocolate.

    1. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

      2 stars
Not sure what the fuss is about apples. They’re fine, but chocolate is way better. Didn’t think this recipe was great.

    2. 4 stars
I can see why your kids didn’t enjoy it. Maybe try adding some chocolate chips next time to balance the apples! Kids love chocolate!

  63. User avatar devorah.pacocha says:

    4 stars
Super easy directions, and the tart was actually pretty forgiving. I used Granny Smith apples and it had the perfect tang.

  64. User avatar Jed I. Knight says:

    2 stars
My dough never really came together. I kept adding ice water like the recipe said but it was still dry. I ended up patching it and… it was fine?

    1. User avatar bertram.conroy says:

      4 stars
Ugh, that sounds frustrating. With that amount of ice water “as needed,” it can easily stay dry if the butter is too cold or you’re not mixing enough just to hydrate the flour. I usually stop adding water once the dough feels like it will clump when you press it—then I wrap it and chill 20–30 min before rolling. Also, patching is totally normal for tarts; just press the seams together and it’ll bake up fine.

  65. User avatar buck.kulas58 says:

    2 stars
I had a bit of trouble with the crust, it was too crumbly and fell apart. Not sure if I did something wrong. 😕

    1. 4 stars
It can be tricky! Make sure your butter is really cold and don’t overwork the dough. It needs to be handled gently. 😊

  66. User avatar cristopher.wunsch95 says:

    5 stars
    Easy and delicious. 10/10!!!

  67. 2 stars
I tried it but my crust fell apart. Maybe I did something wrong? Mine looked nothing like the picture.

  68. 3 stars
I’m skeptical about the crust amount—1.5 cups flour felt like it might be too much for a tart pan, but it worked out. Texture was nice, though I found the sweetness a little high with both granulated + brown sugar.

  69. 3 stars
This came out soggy on the bottom for me. I think my apples were too watery and I didn’t drain them well after slicing. Flavor was still good, just the texture was off.

  70. 4 stars
So easy to make! I added a little vanilla extract, and it turned out great! Perfect for dessert. 🥧✨

    1. User avatar wilfredo.koch says:

      2 stars
Looks good, but I don’t know if adding vanilla extract will make it better. Is that even a thing for apple tarts?

    2. User avatar becki.kilback9 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! The vanilla extract is a great idea. I might try that next time! 🥰

  71. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    5 stars
This turned out so cozy and fragrant—apple-cinnamon heaven. I let it cool longer than the recipe said and it sliced way cleaner. Would totally make again.

    1. User avatar irwin.paucek1956 says:

      5 stars
Yes! That apple-cinnamon smell is the best part. And I’m totally with you on cooling longer—mine gets way easier to slice too. 🙌

  72. User avatar lula.nolan66 says:

    3 stars
Took too long to bake, like 1 hour instead of 45 min. But still tasted okay. Just not what I expected.

  73. User avatar Hotblack Desiato's bodyguard says:

    3 stars
Too sweet for my taste. I’d cut back on the brown sugar next time or use tarter apples.

  74. User avatar art.legros41 says:

    4 stars
Could you use other fruits? I have peaches and they need to be used up.

    1. User avatar Hotblack Desiato says:

      3 stars
Not sure if peaches will taste same as apples… maybe too fruity? I dunno, might try it tho.

    2. User avatar brock.schoen49 says:

      4 stars
I think peaches would work great! Just slice them up and use them like you would with the apples. Sweet and juicy!

  75. User avatar Orange Dartwing says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about only 45 minutes, but the apples were tender and the top was golden. I used Granny Smith and it balanced the sweetness nicely.

  76. User avatar Hotblack Desiato says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have all the ingredients, so I used some frozen apples and it still came out tasting good. Thanks for the recipe!

    1. User avatar albert.anderson31 says:

      5 stars
I’m glad the frozen apples worked out for you! Sometimes, improvising can lead to delicious surprises. Enjoy your tart!

    2. User avatar Tricia McMillan says:

      3 stars
Using frozen apples? I dunno if that’s the best idea… Fresh is always better, right? But hey, if it tasted good, then who am I to judge?

  77. User avatar basementDweller says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! I had to add a little extra ice water because my dough was way too crumbly. Also, I’d like more spices next time (maybe just a pinch more cinnamon). Still delicious though.

  78. 4 stars
I followed it pretty closely (but I accidentally forgot the nutmeg until the end lol). Even without it, it tasted great. Also, cooling is important—slicing too early made it messy.

  79. 5 stars
This is honestly such an easy dessert. Like, no drama, just mix, roll, slice apples, bake. 10/10 for weeknights.

  80. 4 stars
I added a tiny pinch of salt to the crust and it bumped the flavor a lot. Also, nutmeg is a must.

  81. 4 stars
The instructions are straightforward, but 45 minutes was not enough for my oven—needed like 55. Once I adjusted, it turned out great and the crust was nicely golden.

  82. User avatar jacob.barrows2021 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is so good! The apples turned out perfectly caramelized. 😋

  83. User avatar mardell.borer says:

    Yum!

    5 stars
    Tart 4 me! 🍏🍏🍏🍏

  85. User avatar larraine.turner99 says:

    3 stars
The crust was a little crumbly for me—could’ve been the butter warm? I also added water slowly but maybe not slow enough. Flavor was good though.

  86. User avatar olympia.collier says:

    3 stars
Good flavor, but my crust shrank a little in the pan. I think I added a bit too much water. Next time I’ll keep it drier and chill the dough.

That makes sense—too much water can make the dough relax and shrink in the pan. Chilling helps a lot too; next time I’d also try pressing the dough firmly into the corners.

I don’t get it why you have to cool it—like I was impatient lol. It still tasted good but the slices looked messy. Maybe next time I’ll wait.

This turned out way better than I expected—my crust was golden and the apple cinnamon smell filled the whole kitchen. Would absolutely make again for guests.

Absolutely delicious! My family loved it! The cinnamon really brings out the apples’ sweetness. Will make again for sure! 🌟

My apples released a lot of juice. The flavor was awesome, but it was a bit watery when I cut it. Cooling properly helped but not fully.

Nutmeg + cinnamon is a classic, so I was hopeful. Tastes fine, but the dough didn’t fully come together for me—felt dry, even with the ice water.

I feel you—those crusts can get dry fast. I usually add the ice water just 1 tbsp at a time and stop as soon as it holds together when you press it. Also make sure your butter stays cold when you cut it in.

Nutmeg + cinnamon totally works, but I’m not sure your dough issue is the spices. If it was “dry even with ice water,” maybe it needed a tiny bit more—like the recipe says “or as needed.” I’d also check if you measured flour by scoop (too much flour would do that).

  92. 3 stars
I tried this and my dough was crumbly even after adding ice water. I had to keep adding, like, spoonfuls upon spoonfuls, lol. Ended up still delicious, but not elegant.

Honestly, I didn’t think this would turn out well, but it was a hit! Simple and delicious.

I had my doubts too, but I’m so glad it turned out well! Did you add anything special to yours?

Really? I thought it would be super hard. I might just stick to store bought pies!

Made this last weekend—so cozy. My apples stayed tender and the cinnamon/nutmeg combo smells amazing. I let it cool a bit longer and it sliced way cleaner. 10/10 would bake again!

I followed the recipe exactly, but my crust was too dry. Not sure what went wrong.

Not gonna lie, 45 minutes wasn’t enough for my apples. They were kinda firm in the middle, but the crust was already golden, so I added another 10-15 minutes with foil over the top.

    1. User avatar lauri.hessel says:

      3 stars
45 min should be enough tho? Maybe your slices were too thick. I’d also try thinner apple slices or cover earlier—foil too late can make the crust mushy, but firm apples is the real issue.

    2. 5 stars
Totally get that—apples vary a lot. Adding 10–15 minutes (especially with foil) makes sense if the middle stays firm. I’ll remember to check tenderness instead of trusting the timer!

The circular apple pattern is adorable and it bakes up so pretty. My family devoured it way too fast.

Made this last weekend and it was seriously amazing—crust turned out buttery and the apple-cinnamon combo smells unreal. I needed a touch more ice water to get the dough to come together, but otherwise followed it exactly.

The dough came together, but I think my ice water measurement was off. I ended up adding a bit more flour to stop it from getting sticky. Tasted great though.

Oh no—yeah, ice water measurements can be super finicky. Glad it was still workable though, and that you got it to the right texture with a little extra flour. Thanks for sharing! 🍎

Really basic tart. I expected more flavor. Maybe add some lemon juice next time? Just a thought.

This tastes like the kind of thing you’d get at a bakery, but I didn’t have nutmeg so I used extra cinnamon. Still came out great.

    1. User avatar eliana.dare1983 says:

That’s awesome—extra cinnamon makes sense. I always skip nutmeg sometimes too and it still tastes bakery-level. 😄

I followed the steps and it looked pretty, but the bottom crust got a little soft. Maybe my oven runs cool? Still tasty.

  104. 4 stars
I followed the recipe pretty closely, but my crust came out a little tough. Maybe I overmixed when adding the ice water? Still yummy though.

Not gonna lie, I used regular sugar instead of granulated for the crust and it was fine. However, I burned the top a tiny bit because I forgot to check at 35 minutes.

    1. User avatar geoWizard says:

      4 stars
35 minutes? I woulda checked earlier lol. My top always browns fast, I think ovens vary a lot. Still sounds tasty, even with the little burn.

    2. 4 stars
Ahh same—regular sugar has worked for me too when I’m out of granulated. For the burn, though, I’d just start checking around 30 minutes and loosely tent with foil if it’s browning too fast.

Not sure about the amount of butter—my crust came out kind of dry and cracked when I tried to fit it into the tart pan. Flavor is good though, just needs adjustment.

  107. User avatar fritz.fadel1959 says:

Honestly, I burned the edges a little at 375°F (my bad, I forgot it was in the oven). Still tasted great though—like apple pie’s cousin. Would try again with foil shielding!

  108. 5 stars
Made this last weekend and it actually tastes like a bakery tart. The spices with the apples are perfect—will definitely bake again.

    1. User avatar dwain.mertz0 says:

Wow, that’s awesome to hear! I love when the spices and apples actually taste like the real bakery version. What kind of apples did you use?

  109. 2 stars
I’m skeptical about 45 minutes at 375 for 4 cups of apples. Mine were kinda soft but the crust browned fast. I’d lower temp or cover with foil sooner.

  110. User avatar arnulfo.harris43 says:

    2 stars
Meh. The spice mix is ok, but I felt like it needed more butter in the crust. Also 4 cups apples seems like a lot—maybe depends on the pan size.

  111. 5 stars
This turned out way better than I expected—crispy crust and the apple-cinnamon smell filled the whole kitchen. I used a little extra ice water and it came together perfectly.

  112. 5 stars
This is my go-to now. Also, cooling before slicing is real—if you rush it, it falls apart. Learned that the hard way lol.

  113. 3 stars
Honestly I’m skeptical about 45 minutes at 375 for that much apples. Mine were still kind of firm even after. Still edible, just not the tender texture I hoped for.

  114. User avatar waldo.mclaughlin says:

    4 stars
Mine didn’t look like a “circular pattern” at all 😂 but it still tasted great. I think next time I’ll slice thinner so the apples get more tender.
