Easy Baked Chicken Parmesan

January 25, 2024

Chicken Parmesan is one of those universally loved dishes that brings comfort to the table no matter the season. With its golden breaded chicken, savory tomato sauce, and melty layer of cheese, it’s the kind of meal that feels like a warm hug. This baked version keeps all the flavor you love but skips the mess and excess oil that comes with frying, making it a weeknight-friendly favorite.

What makes baked Chicken Parmesan so appealing is its simplicity. Instead of standing over a pan of hot oil, the chicken is baked in the oven until crispy and golden. It still gets that satisfying crunch, thanks to a well-seasoned breadcrumb coating, but with less effort and cleanup. Once baked, it’s topped with marinara sauce and a generous handful of shredded mozzarella or parmesan, then returned to the oven just long enough to melt into a bubbling, cheesy topping.

The result is everything you want in a comfort food dish, juicy, crispy chicken with rich tomato flavor and plenty of gooey cheese. It’s hearty and filling but doesn’t feel heavy, and it pairs beautifully with pasta, salad, or roasted veggies. It’s also great for meal prep. Leftovers reheat well and can even be used in a sandwich or wrap the next day.

Baked Chicken Parmesan is a smart way to enjoy a classic dish without the extra grease or time commitment. It’s approachable, adaptable, and always satisfying. Whether you’re cooking for your family, hosting a casual dinner, or simply craving something familiar and delicious, this dish delivers every time.

And the best part? It’s one of those meals that pleases picky eaters and foodies alike. No need to reinvent the wheel – just bake it.

Why you put GARLIC?! That dont go with chicken! Not following this one again.

  2. 2 stars
Easy, yes. But why would anyone use butter and not just olive oil? Seems unhealthy.

But is it really Chicken Parm if you don’t fry it? Seems off to me. Just sayin’.

  5. 3 stars
I mean, it’s okay but wasn’t anything special. The chicken was a bit dry.

I don’t like parmesan, is there a way to substitute it? Or can you just leave it off?

    1. User avatar eddie.mann88 says:

      4 stars
You could try using nutritional yeast or another cheese like mozzarella if you don’t want parmesan! It should still taste good!

    2. User avatar jermaine.orn93 says:

      3 stars
Just leave it off. It’s not the end of the world. You’ll still have chicken and sauce!

Yummmm! The cheese is everything. I would suggest using more marinara sauce though.

    1. 3 stars
I dunno, I think it has enough sauce. Too much can make it soggy, right? Just a thought.

    2. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

      5 stars
Totally agree! More marinara would make it saucier and yummier. I always drown mine in sauce! 😋

  18. 2 stars
Why use butter? Ain’t olive oil healthier? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar ludie.moen says:

      4 stars
Olive oil is definitely healthier, but butter adds a rich flavor! Can’t go wrong with either in moderation. 😊

    2. 3 stars
Butter makes it taste way better! Like, idk if olive oil can do that haha. 🤷‍♀️

This is not real Italian food! You need more spices and less cheese.

Way too salty for my taste. Followed the recipe exactly and yikes! 😳

    1. 4 stars
I totally understand. I think I put too much salt the first time I made it too. Maybe try less salt next time? 😅

    2. 2 stars
Salt? What are you talkin about? That’s like the most imp ingredient, or else its bland! 😂

  26. User avatar denis.cronin1962 says:

I dunno. Chicken kinda dry for me. Maybe I did it wrong?

  33. User avatar williams.mraz2008 says:

Why does the cooking time say 20 minutes? Mine took longer! What’s up with that?

    1. 4 stars
Sometimes ovens can be off! I had the same issue before. You might want to check if yours runs cool or something. Cooking times can vary a lot.

  34. 4 stars
Yum! I added some oregano too. My family loved it!

    1. User avatar Jarvan IV says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Oregano is a great touch! What kind of pasta did you serve it with?

    2. User avatar kendall.parker says:

      2 stars
I dunno, I think Parmesan by itself is good enough. Adding oregano seems like too much.

  35. User avatar edmond.schowalter44 says:

    5 stars
    Yum! 10/10! 👌

  36. 5 stars
Pretty simple and came out delicious

  37. 3 stars
It was okay, but I think it needed more seasoning. The breadcrumbs were kinda bland.

  38. 1 star
This was not it! I burned it. Followed the directions exactly.

  39. User avatar ursula.runte36 says:

I didn’t have all the ingredients so I used cheddar instead of mozzarella. It melted but tasted weird…

    1. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Goku says:

      4 stars
Cheddar is great too! It’s just different. Next time try mixing it with some mozzarella if you have it!

    2. User avatar Elidia Rutherford says:

      3 stars
Honestly, I think any cheese would work as long as you like it. But yeah, mozzarella is kinda the classic flavor.

  45. User avatar scot.heidenreich48 says:

I burnt the chicken. 😭 What did I do wrong?!

  46. 5 stars
This was sooo good! My family gobbled it up. I added some spinach too. Yummy!

  47. 3 stars
Not sure about this one. Chicken was kinda dry. Maybe I cooked it too long?

    1. User avatar eldora.dickinson2004 says:

      4 stars
I think you might have just overcooked it a bit! Chicken can dry out fast if left too long. Maybe try lowering the oven temp next time?
