Chicken Alfredo

September 23, 2024

Chicken Alfredo is the ultimate comfort food, featuring tender, juicy chicken in a rich, creamy Alfredo sauce. The creamy sauce, made with butter, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese, envelops the chicken and pasta in a luscious, velvety coating that’s utterly satisfying. This dish is the perfect balance of flavors – savory, cheesy, and indulgent, making it a family favorite for cozy weeknight dinners or a comforting meal to serve to guests.

The base of Chicken Alfredo is a rich, creamy sauce that is simple to make yet bursting with flavor. To make the sauce, butter is melted in a pan and then combined with heavy cream, garlic, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. The result is a smooth, silky sauce that clings to the pasta and chicken. The key to a good Alfredo sauce is not rushing the cooking process, allowing the cream to reduce and thicken helps to create that indulgent, creamy texture we love in this dish.

The chicken is typically seasoned with salt, pepper, and a bit of garlic before being sautéed to golden brown perfection. This gives it a flavorful, crispy exterior while keeping the inside juicy and tender. Slicing the chicken into strips or cubes allows it to integrate seamlessly with the pasta and sauce, making every bite full of flavor.

For the pasta, fettuccine is the traditional choice, but you can also use other pasta shapes like penne or rigatoni depending on your preference. The pasta is cooked al dente and tossed with the creamy Alfredo sauce and chicken, making each bite perfectly coated in the delicious sauce.

Chicken Alfredo can be customized to your liking. For added richness, you can stir in a little more cheese or even a spoonful of cream cheese for extra creaminess. If you prefer a little freshness to balance the richness, toss in some fresh spinach, peas, or broccoli. For a touch of heat, a pinch of red pepper flakes or some freshly cracked black pepper can add a bit of spice.

This dish is best served hot and fresh, with a side of garlic bread or a crisp green salad to cut through the richness of the sauce. Whether it’s a family dinner or a special treat, Chicken Alfredo is a dish that’s sure to please everyone at the table.

Simple and classic! But please, don’t call it real italian. It’s not REAL alfredo without eggs!!

I followed the recipe exactly but the sauce was too thick and kinda bland. Next time I’ll add more seasoning.

I totally get it! Sometimes sauces can really depend on the brand of ingredients you use. Try different seasonings next time, maybe even a pinch of nutmeg? It can give it a nice flavor boost. 😊

Honestly, I think the recipe might be off. Alfredo is usually just cheese and cream, not much else! Maybe it’s just a bad recipe? 🤷‍♂️

  3. 4 stars
Good recipe! Next time I’m gonna add some broccoli for more color and health!

  4. 4 stars
Tried this with shrimp instead of chicken, turned out pretty good too!

First time making Alfredo and it turned out great! Simple steps and yummy flavor.

So glad to hear it turned out great! Alfredo is my favorite. Do you have any tips for making it even creamier?

  6. 5 stars
This was super delicious! My whole family loved it. 5 stars for sure! Will make again.

  7. 5 stars
Yummmy!! Made it for my kids, they devoured it! Definitely a keeper recipe! 👍🏼

  8. 4 stars
I didn’t think it would be that easy to make Alfredo, but wow! Thanks for sharing!

  9. 4 stars
Pretty good, but my sauce thickened too fast after adding the parmesan. Next time I’ll lower the heat sooner and maybe add a splash of pasta water. Still tasty though!

    1. 5 stars
That’s exactly the trick with Alfredo—Parmesan can thicken fast if the cream is too hot. Your plan sounds spot on: lower the heat sooner + pasta water to loosen it.

I don’t understand why it needs so much cream. Can it be made lighter?

    1. User avatar sharlene.ratke13 says:

      4 stars
You could try using half and half instead of heavy cream for a lighter version. Still creamy, just less calories!

  11. User avatar isaias.gerlach12 says:

Not bad, but I feel like it’s missing something. Maybe more cheese? Also 1 cup cream felt a tad low for the amount of pasta. Could be my measurements, idk.

  12. User avatar donte.crooks56 says:

This recipe turned out amazing! So creamy and delicious. Definitely a keeper!

  13. User avatar desmond.stiedemann14 says:

The cream and cheese were wayyy too heavy. Next time, I’ll try low-fat options?

  14. User avatar Jessica Atreides says:

Cooked this for dinner and my kids ate it all! Finally a recipe they liked!

    1. User avatar britta.windler73 says:

      3 stars
Really? My kids won’t touch chicken alfredo. I think they just don’t like the sauce. Maybe it’s an acquired taste or something? 🤔

    2. 5 stars
That’s awesome! My kids are picky eaters too, so I know how great it feels when they actually like something. What did you serve it with?

  15. 2 stars
Just OK. I burnt the garlic and the cream curdled. 😕 Not sure if I’ll make it again.

    1. User avatar Mr. Popo says:

      4 stars
Sorry to hear that! Garlic can be tricky, I always burn it too if I’m not careful. Maybe try roasting it next time? 😅

  16. User avatar Dwarven Centurion says:

Easy? Really? I found it a bit tricky. Maybe I’m just not that good at cooking.

  17. User avatar gary.brakus70 says:

I tried this but it came out too salty. Maybe reduce the salt a bit?

    1. User avatar Dane Hessel says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue! I think the saltiness comes from the Parmesan too. Rethink that salt measure! 😅

    2. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      3 stars
I didn’t find it too salty. Maybe you added extra salt? Just a thought. 🤔

  19. User avatar Alida McDermott II says:

    5 stars
Yum!!! Love this, went easy on the cheese but still super tasty.

    1. 4 stars
Awesome! I thought the cheese was the best part. Glad you made it work!

    2. User avatar johnie.heaney13 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, less cheese sounds weird. Isn’t Alfredo supposed to be cheesy? 🤔

  20. User avatar suanne.jast says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I think it needs more garlic. My family said it was a little bland.

  21. User avatar mimi.gutmann10 says:

This was the best Chicken Alfredo I’ve ever made! My family loved it. I added broccoli for some crunch.

    1. User avatar Leto II Atreides says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I’ll have to try it with broccoli like you did. I never thought of adding veggies to Alfredo.

  22. User avatar Ford Prefect says:

Easy recipe but I feel like there was too much cream. Mine ended up too heavy. Maybe cut the cream by half?

  24. User avatar valentin.pouros1991 says:

Just made this tonight and oh my gosh it was heavenly! So creamy and rich! 😍

  25. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it was seriously restaurant-level. The garlic + butter step smells amazing, and the sauce turned out silky instead of grainy. I used pre-grated parm once (oops) but this time fresh and wow—night and day.

  26. User avatar rudolph.altenwerth says:

    2 stars
Meh. Tastes good, but I’ve had better. Would add mushrooms next time.

  27. 3 stars
Is there a way to make this healthier? I don’t want to gain weight!

  28. User avatar eugenio.cassin84 says:

    4 stars
Easy peasy! I substituted half the cheese with ricotta and it turned out great!

  29. 2 stars
I tried making it, but my sauce turned out lumpy. What did I do wrong?

  30. 5 stars
Made this tonight—so creamy and actually tastes like restaurant Alfredo. The garlic timing was perfect. I added a little extra pepper and it really popped. Will definitely cook again.

  31. User avatar Monica Zeringue says:

    5 stars
Excellent recipe. I followed the instructions accurately, and added some steamed broccoli as a side dish. Everything was deilicous and was a family crowd pleaser!

    1. 5 stars
So glad to hear it was a hit! Adding broccoli sounds like a yummy idea! Will definitely try that next time.

  32. User avatar daren.damore68 says:

    3 stars
It was ok, but I wish the sauce was thicker. I added more cheese, but it didn’t help much.

    1. User avatar kris.nikolaus82 says:

      4 stars
I found the sauce pretty good! Maybe let it cook longer to thicken? Just a thought!

  33. 2 stars
I think u meant to say fettuccine should be cooked longer, mine was a bit chewy :/

    1. User avatar misti.schneider76 says:

      3 stars
No way! Mine was fine. Maybe you just overcooked the pasta before adding it to the sauce? Shouldn’t be chewy if done right. Just follow the box instructions!

    2. 4 stars
I made it too and had the same issue, the fettuccine was definitely too chewy for my liking. Maybe next time I’ll cook it a little longer. Thanks for pointing that out!

  34. 3 stars
Is it really Alfredo if there are no, like, Italian spices? Just asking.

  35. User avatar elliot.terry says:

    5 stars
    Delish!

    1. User avatar ronnie.stamm says:

      3 stars
Looks good but I have a question. Can I use cream cheese instead of heavy cream?

    2. User avatar spencer.will1951 says:

I made this last night and my family loved it! Thanks for sharing!

  36. User avatar sadie.considine1963 says:

Too much garlic for my taste. Next time I’ll use just one clove.

  37. User avatar sherrell.weimann64 says:

    3 stars
I followed this recipe but it turned out a bit bland. Maybe I’ll add more garlic next time?

    1. User avatar hanh.mann92 says:

      5 stars
I think adding more garlic is a great idea! Garlic really brings out the flavor. Maybe try sautéing it longer too?

  38. User avatar adrian.predovic1985 says:

    5 stars
This Chicken Alfredo was a hit at our dinner! Everyone loved it!

  39. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    5 stars
Alfredo should have cream and cheese! This is a classic!

  40. User avatar carroll.oconnell3 says:

    3 stars
This is not real alfredo, where are the eggs?!

    1. 4 stars
You’re right! Traditional Alfredo does sometimes use eggs. This recipe is more of a creamy sauce without them.

    2. 5 stars
Eggs in Alfredo? I never heard that before. This looks good to me, even without eggs! 😋
