Baked Feta Bites

December 10, 2024

Baked feta bites are a delicious, easy-to-make appetizer that’s perfect for any occasion. With a crispy golden exterior and a creamy, tangy feta filling, these little bites are full of flavor and texture. Whether you’re hosting a party, serving them as a snack, or bringing something special to a potluck, baked feta bites are sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

To make these bites, start by crumbling feta cheese into a bowl and mixing it with a variety of flavorful ingredients. Herbs like oregano, thyme, or rosemary work wonderfully, while a bit of garlic and lemon zest adds depth and brightness. For added richness, you can mix in a little cream cheese or ricotta. This creamy mixture is then spooned into puff pastry squares or phyllo dough, which will bake up beautifully golden and flaky around the feta filling.

To assemble the bites, cut the puff pastry into small squares and place a generous spoonful of the feta mixture in the center of each. Fold the pastry around the filling to create little parcels, sealing the edges tightly to prevent the cheese from spilling out. Brush each bite with a bit of olive oil or butter before baking to give them that perfect golden color.

Bake the feta bites in a preheated oven until the pastry is golden brown and crispy. As they bake, the cheese filling becomes soft and melty, creating a creamy, tangy center that perfectly complements the crisp pastry shell. The result is a delicious combination of textures and flavors that are simply irresistible.

These baked feta bites are versatile, so feel free to get creative with the filling. You can add olives, sun-dried tomatoes, or spinach for extra flavor and color. Serve them warm with a side of marinara sauce or a drizzle of honey for a sweet and savory contrast.

Perfect for casual gatherings or more formal events, baked feta bites are an easy, impressive appetizer that everyone will enjoy. Their crispy, cheesy goodness will make them a favorite in your appetizer repertoire.

These are absolutely delicious! The phyllo gets so crispy and the feta is just perfect. My family loved them!

  2. User avatar mack.murphy1978 says:

    2 stars
Meh… too much butter and too much work for the size. I’d rather just eat feta straight or do something quicker. But I get why people like it.

  3. User avatar tamala.dickens says:

    5 stars
These came out super crispy and the feta was perfectly salty. The honey/thyme drizzle is a nice touch—would make again for sure.

  4. 4 stars
Super easy recipe! I added some spinach in with the feta and it turned out great! Will make again for sure.

    1. User avatar roman.mclaughlin says:

I don’t know, I’ve tried baked feta and it was just too salty for me. Maybe I did something wrong?

    2. 5 stars
That’s awesome! Spinach sounds like a great addition. I’m going to try that next time!

  5. User avatar Mr. Michaele Ryan says:

    2 stars
Why use phyllo? I did it with just regular bread and it was still good! Just my opinion. 🤷‍♂️

  6. User avatar Siona Atreides says:

    5 stars
Awesome! Simple and quick. I made it with my kids, they loved helping out! 🥳

  7. User avatar elodia.lockman86 says:

    4 stars
Pretty easy recipe. Mine browned faster at around 18 minutes, so keep an eye on them. Also, phyllo is soooo delicate—worth taking your time.

  8. User avatar hyo.zboncak says:

    4 stars
Delicious! I love feta and this is such an easy recipe. Will make it again for sure!

  9. User avatar moriah.mohr says:

I thought they were going to be too rich with feta, but the honey balanced it out nicely. Still, they’re not something I’d make again.

  10. User avatar dong.blanda5 says:

These are AMAZING! I served them at a party and everyone was raving about them. Definitely a 5-star dish!

    1. User avatar Dwight Rosenbaum says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear they were a hit at your party! These bites are definitely a crowd-pleaser.

    2. User avatar ashton.beer52 says:

I dunno, my friends said it was too cheesy. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe I did somethin’ wrong.

  11. User avatar ilona.boyle6 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about baking phyllo parcels—felt like they’d get soggy. Nope. They stayed crunchy for quite a while.

  12. 5 stars
Eeeeek! These are so crispy and fluffy! My kids loved them too, I think I’ll add some garlic next time!

    1. User avatar Omar Walker says:

      5 stars
Yum! Adding garlic sounds amazing! Thanks for the tip! These little bites are the best!

  13. User avatar gerry.hansen1978 says:

    5 stars
These came out so crispy and flaky! The feta basically melts into little pockets—perfect snack. I skipped the honey but added extra thyme and it was still amazing.

  14. User avatar kellee.bradtke80 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know what went wrong but mine turned out soggy. 🙁 Maybe I didn’t bake long enough?

  15. User avatar Evan Lee Arps says:

    4 stars
Tried it exactly as written and they were good, but I wish I’d used a bit more thyme. Also, my honey soaked in faster than expected so next time I’ll drizzle right before serving.

    1. User avatar elna.vonrueden says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome—glad they came out good! And yeah, thyme is one of those things where a little extra really helps. I like drizzling honey right before serving too so it stays crisp.

  16. User avatar sherry.carter44 says:

    3 stars
Baked feta bites? i prefer fried, but these were not bad!

  17. 4 stars
made these for my mom’s birthday and she ate them all up! 👩‍🍳 Highly recommend!

  18. 5 stars
Crispy and sweet – who knew feta could be dessert? Honey was a great touch! You nailed it!

  19. User avatar douglass.treutel32 says:

    3 stars
Phyllo is always tricky for me—one sheet tore and I felt like I was wasting it. Still, the flavor was great, so I’ll try again with more careful handling.

    1. User avatar maura.vandervort1974 says:

      3 stars
See, I don’t think you need to be that careful. If one sheet tears, just patch it—folding makes it kind of forgiving. Also 180°C feels too low to crisp for me… I usually go more like 200°C until it’s properly browned. Your feta bites would still taste good though.

    2. User avatar richelle.krajcik58 says:

      5 stars
Ugh, phyllo is definitely the kind of dough that punishes you for blinking 😅 But your instincts are right—just be gentler and keep the sheets covered while you work. I always use a slightly damp towel over the stack so it doesn’t dry out and tear.

  20. User avatar clinton.crooks42 says:

    4 stars
Super easy!!! I made these for my kids and they gobbled ’em up! Highly recommend.

  21. User avatar linwood.lakin37 says:

    2 stars
Kinda bland if you ask me… maybe more seasonings would help? Not how I expected them to taste.

  22. User avatar nelle.langosh78 says:

    5 stars
Yum! The honey drizzle was a nice touch. Will make again for sure.

  23. User avatar Mr. Cleo Wolf says:

    5 stars
These were insanely crispy! The feta stayed nice and salty, and the honey + thyme combo is honestly genius. I served them at a get-together and they vanished fast.

  24. 3 stars
180°C is kinda low? I did 200°C and they browned faster, but still good. Maybe depends on your oven—watch closely near the 20-minute mark.

    1. User avatar jacqulyn.ryan says:

      4 stars
180°C isn’t crazy low, but yeah—my oven runs hot/cold depending on the day. I agree with watching around 20 minutes. Mine browned faster too at 200°C.

  25. 2 stars
Not sure about the sweetness—mine tasted a bit like dessert. Maybe skip the honey unless you really want that sweet-salty thing.

    1. User avatar Oolon Colluphid says:

      5 stars
Good point! I’m with you—mine got pretty dessert-y too. I’d definitely skip the honey unless you want that sweet-salty contrast.

  26. 2 stars
I’m confused. You bake feta? Like putting cheese in oven? What if it melts? 🤔

  27. User avatar jae.cremin5 says:

    2 stars
Baked feta bites? Is that even a thing? Sounds weird.

    1. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

      5 stars
Baked feta bites are amazing! You gotta try them, they’re super delicious and crunchy. You might change your mind once you taste them!

    2. 2 stars
I dunno, it sounds kinda off to me. Cheese and honey? That’s just weird… Who puts honey on cheese anyway? Are we sure this is a good idea?

  28. User avatar gustavo.bruen says:

    4 stars
I think the honey is optional but I’m glad I tried it. Sweet-salty combo worked way better than I expected. Next time I’ll drain the feta a tiny bit first so it doesn’t get too wet.

    1. User avatar wally.cummerata says:

      4 stars
Honey optional? maybe, but I think it changes the whole vibe. I didn’t drain mine and mine came out kinda soggy in the middle, so your idea should help a lot. Next time I’ll blot it with paper towel—also I used dried thyme and it was fine.

    2. User avatar damion.wehner says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—honey really elevates the sweet-salty thing. I tried it once without and it was still good, but with the drizzle it’s next level. Draining the feta a bit sounds like a great tweak too!

  29. User avatar vertie.lakin13 says:

    2 stars
I tried this recipe but it was super salty 😩. Maybe my feta was too strong? I’m not sure if I liked it.

  30. 3 stars
The phyllo kept drying out on me and my squares were kind of messy. They still tasted good though, just not as pretty. Maybe I should thaw it more carefully?

  31. User avatar amiee.rippin64 says:

    3 stars
I followed it pretty closely, but I think my feta was too salty—next time I’d use a milder one. Otherwise nice and crunchy on the outside.

  32. User avatar jamey.harris2 says:

    4 stars
Super easy and looks impressive. My only tweak: I sprinkled a pinch of garlic powder with the thyme. Still baked up golden in the 20–25 min range.

  33. User avatar dominique.jacobs61 says:

    4 stars
I hate cooking but this was easy and turned out great. Thanks!

  34. User avatar Arthur Philip Deodat says:

    2 stars
I don’t get the hype. They were kinda bland to me. Maybe I did something wrong?

  35. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    5 stars
These were dangerously good. Crispy outside, melty inside—exactly what I wanted. I added extra thyme and used a little more honey drizzle and it tasted like a fancy appetizer.

  36. User avatar erwin.bailey18 says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, I used dried thyme instead of fresh and it was still pretty good. But it felt a bit too salty for me—maybe next time less feta?

    1. 5 stars
Thanks for the tip! Dried thyme should work—fresh just gives more punch. And yeah, feta can be super salty depending on the brand, so next time you could use a little less or lightly taste/salt-adjust the cheese. Glad they still came out good though!

  37. User avatar Arthur Dent says:

    4 stars
This recipe saves my life! I was looking for a fancy starter and this is so easy! Looks good too!

  38. User avatar shara.carter0 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the honey part… I tasted it and thought it was weird with cheese. But my partner loved it, so I guess it’s a personal thing.

  39. User avatar cleta.harvey says:

    3 stars
Meh, it was ok. Nothing to write home about. Just feta wrapped in dough. Maybe add some spices?

  40. User avatar nilsa.weber91 says:

    3 stars
Uhhh, phyllo dough is so hard to work with! I ended up with a mess. Taste was good tho.

    1. 4 stars
Yeah, phyllo dough can be a real pain! But the taste makes it worth it! Maybe next time try working faster? That’s what I do!

  41. User avatar blake.pagac32 says:

    3 stars
Can I use goat cheese instead?? I don’t like feta but this looks good.

    1. User avatar rolando.kreiger1957 says:

      5 stars
You can definitely use goat cheese! It will give a different flavor, but it should still be delicious. Just make sure it’s crumbled like the feta would be.

  42. User avatar phebe.oconner52 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the baking time—mine were browned way before 20 minutes and the cheese started leaking out. I’d lower the temp slightly or cut the time depending on your oven.

    1. User avatar ellsworth.gibson90 says:

      5 stars
Good call—mine also browned fast at 180°C. I think ovens vary a lot with phyllo, so I’d start checking around 15 minutes and pull them when they’re just golden. Lowering the temp slightly could help keep the cheese from leaking.

    2. User avatar trent.pollich62 says:

      4 stars
I baked mine like the recipe said and they were leaking too 😅 maybe because my feta was super soft? Next time I’ll bake shorter. 20-25 seems long for my oven.

  43. User avatar stephane.hodkiewicz19 says:

    5 stars
Honey on feta is a genius combo. I used thyme from my garden and it smelled amazing while baking.

    1. User avatar amira.tremblay50 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Honey + salty feta is seriously genius. The thyme from your garden makes it sound even better—wish I could smell it through the screen 😄

    2. User avatar neal.miller says:

      3 stars
I’ve done feta stuff with honey before, but I’m still not sure about putting it on top after baking—doesn’t it get kinda sticky or burn? Might try less honey though.

  44. User avatar gwyneth.batz says:

    5 stars
These Baked Feta Bites are absolutely divine! I can’t believe how easy they were to make. My friends loved them!

  45. User avatar ocie.kshlerin says:

    1 star
Are you serious with this honey drizzle? Who would put honey on cheese?! No thanks. 😒

  46. User avatar barbara.gorczany1958 says:

    1 star
Way too much butter. Made me feel sick after eating. Never again.

  47. User avatar moshe.bayer45 says:

    5 stars
Super easy and looks fancy. I made them for guests and everyone kept grabbing more. Also, 180°C is the sweet spot—don’t crank the oven higher.

  48. User avatar beulah.abbott says:

    5 stars
Honey on feta?? I was skeptical but wow. The sweetness cuts the salt perfectly. Next time I’ll double the thyme.

  49. User avatar jospeh.brown1964 says:

    3 stars
lol i forgot to thaw the phyllo all the way and it was kinda crackly… but i fixed it and it worked. Would make again

  50. 5 stars
These are fantastic! Perfect for a party. Everyone loved them. 😍

  51. 5 stars
These were amazing! I added some garlic to the feta and it was a hit at my party! So good!

    1. User avatar logan.goodwin says:

      2 stars
I don’t know, seems a bit too fancy for me. I like things simple.

    2. User avatar Beau Lubowitz says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! Garlic in feta? Genius idea! I’m gonna try that next time.

  52. User avatar alonso.monahan18 says:

    5 stars
I loved the texture contrast: flaky outside, soft inside. 20 minutes was perfect in my oven.

    1. User avatar Cave Bear says:

      5 stars
Yes!! The flaky vs soft combo is exactly what I was hoping for. Mine also browned super fast—20 min nailed it. I drizzled honey and it was dangerously good 😄

  53. 3 stars
Mine looked golden, but they weren’t as flaky as I hoped. Maybe I stacked the phyllo sheets wrong or didn’t butter enough between layers.

  54. User avatar rich.lubowitz3 says:

    3 stars
I followed everything but they came out a bit salty for my taste (maybe because my feta was extra salty). Still tasty though, just would reduce feta or add less salt next time.

  55. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    5 stars
I made these for a party and they disappeared instantly 😅. The thyme makes it smell like fancy appetizers from a restaurant.

  56. 5 stars
These came out super crispy and the feta flavor is so good. I added a tiny pinch of chili flakes too—highly recommend.

    1. User avatar eura.considine4 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I love when they get that shattering crisp. I didn’t think to add chili flakes but that sounds perfect with the feta—def trying next batch.

  57. User avatar Chaurus Hunter says:

    5 stars
These came out super crispy and the feta stayed nice and creamy. The honey drizzle is honestly the perfect sweet-salty touch.

  58. User avatar hilario.baumbach says:

    4 stars
Good recipe, but I think 180°C might be a little low—mine took closer to 28 minutes to get golden. Still totally worth it though.

  59. User avatar Miss Rosana Herzog says:

    1 star
Baked what? Is this like pizza? I don’t get it. Phyllo doesn’t sound like food.🧐

  60. User avatar juliane.schmeler says:

    3 stars
meh, the honey made it too sweet for me and I’m usually not picky. Next time I’ll skip it or use less.

  61. User avatar monet.gerlach says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty closely, but my phyllo tore a bit when folding. Still tasted amazing though. Next time I’ll cut a little larger squares.

  62. User avatar malcolm.wintheiser says:

    2 stars
Honey on feta bites?? I tried it and honestly it tastes kinda weird to me. Would be better with lemon or something savory instead of sweet.

  63. User avatar joshua.renner50 says:

    4 stars
My phyllo tore a bit when I folded the parcels, but they still baked up fine. Next time I’ll make smaller squares because mine leaked cheese in a few spots (still delicious though).

  64. 4 stars
I skipped the honey (not a fan) and added extra thyme instead. That said, the bites were still really tasty. Would recommend as an appetizer.

  65. User avatar maryellen.borer says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps exactly, but my phyllo dried out and got brittle. Next time I’ll work faster and keep the rest covered.

  66. User avatar geoffrey.langworth52 says:

    5 stars
Yasss! So crispy and flaky! I added some crushed red pepper for an extra kick. Will make again for sure!

  67. 4 stars
The instructions are clear, but 12 sheets felt like a lot—still, the portions were perfect for a party snack.

    1. User avatar randy.stroman97 says:

      5 stars
Yeah 12 sheets does sound like a ton, but I guess it makes sense for bite-sized parcels. Glad the portions worked out for your party!

  68. User avatar lula.armstrong18 says:

    2 stars
Meh. I followed it but it was kinda bland. Could’ve used more seasoning or something—also my phyllo tore a lot.

  69. User avatar fernando.zulauf1963 says:

    2 stars
Mine didn’t crisp much on the bottom. I think I didn’t use enough butter. Also I forgot to thaw the phyllo and it was a pain.

  70. User avatar shonna.romaguera2001 says:

    4 stars
Pretty easy for a fancy-looking appetizer. Mine were a little salty (I guess my feta was saltier than yours) but still delicious.
