Shrimp Egg Salad

April 21, 2025

Shrimp egg salad is a refreshing twist on the classic egg salad, combining creamy eggs with tender shrimp for a dish that’s both light and satisfying. This salad is perfect for a quick lunch, a light dinner, or as a delicious filling for sandwiches or wraps. The delicate flavor of the shrimp pairs wonderfully with the richness of the eggs and the creamy dressing, making this salad a delightful option for seafood lovers.

To begin, hard-boil a few eggs by placing them in a pot of cold water, bringing the water to a boil, and then reducing the heat to a simmer for about 10 minutes. Once the eggs are done, transfer them to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Once they’re cool, peel the eggs and chop them into small pieces.

While the eggs are cooking, prepare the shrimp. You can use cooked shrimp or cook raw shrimp yourself. If using raw shrimp, simply sauté them in a little olive oil with garlic, salt, and pepper until they’re pink and opaque, which takes just a few minutes. Once cooked, chop the shrimp into bite-sized pieces and set them aside to cool.

Next, combine the chopped eggs and shrimp in a mixing bowl. For the dressing, combine mayonnaise with a squeeze of lemon juice, a teaspoon of Dijon mustard, and a pinch of salt and pepper. The mayonnaise will provide a creamy base, while the lemon juice and mustard will add a zesty contrast to the richness of the eggs and shrimp.

Pour the dressing over the egg and shrimp mixture and gently stir to combine, ensuring everything is evenly coated. For extra flavor, you can add chopped fresh herbs like parsley, dill, or chives. A dash of paprika or cayenne pepper can also add a bit of heat if you like some spice in your salad.

This shrimp egg salad can be served on a bed of lettuce, on toasted bread, or in a wrap. It’s also delicious served alongside fresh vegetables or crispy crackers. Whether you’re looking for a light meal or something to pack for lunch, this shrimp egg salad is a tasty, protein-packed option that’s sure to satisfy.

This shrimp egg salad is delish! I added a bit of extra lemon juice and wow, it’s perfect! Will make again for sure.

I don’t think shrimp and eggs should be mixed. Just seems weird to me, but to each their own, I guess.

  3. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

This egg salad is a game changer! The shrimp adds such a nice touch. 5 stars!

  4. 2 stars
Tried it but it tasted kinda bland. Should I add spices?

  5. User avatar georgann.metz says:

Is it really necessary to chill the shrimp? I think it can be served warm too.

    1. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

      4 stars
I think chilling it makes the flavors blend better! Warm shrimp might be too mushy in the salad.

    2. 2 stars
Nah, warm is fine! Who says it has to be cold? It’s shrimp, not ice cream!

  6. User avatar geoWizard says:

    5 stars
This was soo good! Can’t believe how easy it was to make!

  7. User avatar Sharilyn Reilly says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, it just didn’t taste right to me. Too much mayo maybe?

  8. User avatar lou.buckridge74 says:

Not sure about using shrimp—egg salad already has a whole vibe. My family didn’t love it, but I thought it was okay. Maybe better as lettuce wraps.

    1. 4 stars
Totally get that—shrimp can change the whole vibe. I’ve found it works best if the shrimp flavor is kept mild (not overcooked) and the lemon/dill are fresh. Lettuce wraps is a great idea too!

  9. 5 stars
This shrimp egg salad is fantastic! Perfect for summer lunch!

    1. User avatar earl.morar says:

      3 stars
I heard shrimp is like, super high in cholesterol. Is this really a healthy option?

  10. 3 stars
I think the mayonnaise makes it too heavy. Maybe try with yogurt next time?

    1. User avatar ladonna.gerhold8 says:

      2 stars
Nah, mayonnaise is the best part! Adds creaminess! Why mess with a classic?

    2. User avatar bruce.bergstrom1973 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! Yogurt would make it lighter. I love a good egg salad, but too much mayo is just not for me.

  11. User avatar deanna.rogahn says:

Who puts shrimp in egg salad? Sounds weird, but okay.

  12. User avatar george.veum66 says:

    2 stars
Only 2-3 minutes for shrimp? I overcooked mine because I wasn’t sure. Next time I’ll try it for less!

  13. User avatar don.weber1966 says:

    4 stars
Easy recipe, but I added some mustard and it was great! Will repeat.

  14. User avatar rich.landlord says:

    3 stars
The flavor is nice but mine came out too lemony. Maybe my lemons were stronger? I’ll use less next time or add more mayo.

  15. User avatar tuan.bins1979 says:

    5 stars
I made this for a picnic and it was a hit! Keep em coming! 👍

I totally agree! Shrimp and eggs are such a great combo! Can’t wait to try this recipe!

  17. User avatar halflife4 says:

I used dried dill because I didn’t have fresh. It was still good, just less “bright.” Also, mayo amount might need tweaking depending on how juicy the shrimp is.

  18. User avatar Barry Manilow says:

    5 stars
This is the best shrimp salad I’ve ever made! The lemon juice really gives it a nice kick.

    1. User avatar darci.macejkovic says:

Glad you liked it! The lemon really does change everything, doesn’t it?

  19. User avatar rocco.anderson58 says:

Yum!! But too much mayo for my taste. Next time I’ll cut it down. 4/5!

  23. User avatar celine.mills1952 says:

    4 stars
Yum! I added some spicy mustard and it was delish! 😋

    1. User avatar Cyrus Cummerata III says:

    2. User avatar rodrick.pouros1998 says:

      2 stars
But mustard in egg salad? Really? Isn’t that a bit weird? 🤔

  24. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about the dill amount. Fresh dill can be strong—mine overpowered everything, so I’d cut it in half next time.

  25. User avatar cesar.dach1961 says:

    5 stars
This is sooo good! I added a little garlic too. Yum! 😋

  26. User avatar Hwi Noree says:

    4 stars
This is good, but mine tasted a little flat until I added extra lemon juice and salt. After that it totally perked up.

  27. User avatar richie.predovic61 says:

    4 stars
I’ve never liked shrimp, but thought I’d give this a shot. Wasn’t bad! So I give it a 4.

    1. User avatar Yoshiko Kutch says:

      5 stars
I used to hate shrimp too, but egg salad makes it so much better! 😄 Glad you tried it!

    2. User avatar tonette.prohaska94 says:

      2 stars
4? Really? I tried it last week and thought it was bland. Maybe I used old shrimp?

  28. User avatar annmarie.connelly24 says:

    4 stars
Super easy recipe! I added some extra spices and it was delicious.

    1. 5 stars
Glad to hear you loved it! What spices did you add? I’m trying to spice things up too!

  29. User avatar virgil.cartwright87 says:

    3 stars
Good recipe, but I prefer my egg salad without any sort of seafood. 3.

  30. User avatar bradly.fadel says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but 1/4 cup celery feels like a lot? I like celery, but I’d maybe cut it down to 2 tbsp. Texture was kinda overwhelming for me.

  31. User avatar lee.greenfelder says:

    3 stars
This is too much mayo for my liking. Maybe I’ll try less next time.

    1. 3 stars
But mayo is what makes it creamy! Maybe try it with less next time, but don’t knock it until you try it the way it’s meant to be!

    2. User avatar fabian.nikolaus says:

      4 stars
I totally get you! I think less mayo would make it taste fresher. It’s a great salad either way!

  32. User avatar Billi Welch says:

    5 stars
Really tasty and fresh—love the lemon + dill combo. I also added a tiny bit of Dijon and it bumped the flavor up a lot. Will make again.

  33. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

Not sure if I did it right. My eggs were too crumbled. Still ate it though. 2/5.

  34. User avatar Penny Lane says:

    5 stars
Easy to make! My kids loved it. Will definitely make again. 5 stars! 🌟

  35. User avatar Samwise Gamgee says:

I didn’t have dill, so I used parsley… still turned out OK, but not like my grandma’s. 3 stars.

  36. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

    2 stars
I thought this was a weird combo. Is this even a real recipe? 🤔

  37. User avatar denis.klein1957 says:

    2 stars
My kids didn’t eat it. Maybe they are just picky? -_-

    1. User avatar gilberto.raynor67 says:

      4 stars
Kids can be so picky sometimes! Maybe try adding some spices next time or serve it with a fun dip? Don’t lose hope! 😅

  38. User avatar naida.okeefe2 says:

    5 stars
I followed it pretty closely—shrimp cooked in 2-3 minutes was perfect (not rubbery). Next time I’ll add a bit more celery crunch though.

  39. 5 stars
This is such a fresh upgrade from the usual mayo-heavy stuff. The lemon + dill combo really pops, and the celery adds a nice crunch. Made it for lunch and it disappeared fast.

  40. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

    3 stars
The shrimp cooking time felt too short—2-3 minutes was okay but mine was a bit rubbery. If I try again, I’ll watch more closely and chill faster.

  41. 4 stars
I used frozen shrimp and it turned out fine. Just make sure to thaw them properly first.

    1. User avatar danna.schumm says:

      5 stars
Frozen shrimp can be a lifesaver! Glad it turned out well for you. Just make sure not to overcook them.

  42. User avatar susie.cremin10 says:

    2 stars
I tried this and it came out kinda watery… maybe my shrimp wasn’t dry after chilling? Gonna try patting them dry next time.

  43. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    4 stars
Okay, I’m skeptical about shrimp egg salad… but this actually works. The celery crunch is the best part. Would 100% make again for lunch.

  44. User avatar faith.price says:

    2 stars
I don’t know… shrimp and eggs? Seems like a weird combo. Did not try it.

  45. 3 stars
Why do you need dill? It’s just a plant and I don’t really like it. Gonna skip that.

  46. 2 stars
Too many steps for me. I’ll stick to my usual egg salad. No shrimp needed.

  47. 4 stars
Wait… shrimp for only 2-3 minutes? I always overcook seafood 😅 I ended up cooking mine a bit less time and it turned out perfect, so thanks for the tip.

  48. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

    4 stars
Can I substitute shrimp with chicken? Allergic to seafood. Thanks!

  49. User avatar basementDweller says:

    4 stars
Pretty good and easy, but 2-3 minutes for shrimp feels short? Mine were a tiny bit rubbery, so next time I’ll pull them as soon as they turn pink.

  50. 1 star
Eggs should not be mixed with seafood! Gross!!

    1. User avatar isaac.crona2009 says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! I think shrimp and eggs make a great combo. This salad sounds delicious!

    2. User avatar beatriz.murphy says:

      3 stars
Really? I thought seafood was supposed to be healthy? Eggs are fine though, right?

  51. User avatar david.rolfson47 says:

I don’t know about using shrimp in egg salad. Seems a bit weird to me. But my sister loved it.

  52. User avatar Restless Draugr says:

    3 stars
My shrimp turned out kinda tough because I left them boiling a minute too long 😭 Still edible, just not “chef” texture.

    1. User avatar halflife4 says:

      5 stars
Ahh no 😭 Shrimp really does get tough fast—boiling even 60 seconds too long is usually the culprit. Next time try pulling them as soon as they’re just pink/opaque and chilling right away.

  53. 5 stars
Shrimp is my fav! So this was gonna be good no matter what. Yummy!

  54. 5 stars
Made this for a picnic and it was a hit! Everyone raved about it. Thanks!

  55. 4 stars
The instructions are simple, which I like. I used frozen shrimp and it worked—just make sure they’re fully thawed and dry-ish before mixing.

  56. User avatar joycelyn.kunze says:

    5 stars
Yum!!! Very good, quick lunch. 2-3 mins shrimp is key.

  57. User avatar lorinda.swaniawski89 says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty closely, but I used dried dill because I didn’t have fresh. Still good though—just less bright. Next time I’ll try fresh herbs.

    1. User avatar Marc Thiel says:

      4 stars
Good to hear! I’ve done the same with dried dill—agree it’s not as bright. Fresh herbs make a big difference for that lemony vibe.

  58. 5 stars
Loved how fresh this tasted—lemon + dill really wakes up the mayo. I added a little extra pepper and it was perfect on greens.

    1. User avatar sandy.wisozk81 says:

      5 stars
Yes! Lemon + dill is such a good combo—never thought of it waking up the mayo like that. Extra pepper on greens sounds perfect.

  59. User avatar gladis.mueller94 says:

    5 stars
Yummy!!! Best salad I’ve had in ages! 😍🌟

    1. User avatar Asley Pfannerstill says:

Totally agree! This salad is a game changer! 🥗❤️

  60. User avatar ladawn.deckow66 says:

    4 stars
Looks good, but 100 grams shrimp is like… for 1 person? 😅 I’ll double it. Otherwise, great idea.
