Pork and Potato Hash

February 13, 2024

Pork and potato hash is a comforting, savory dish that’s perfect for any meal of the day. Whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast to start your day, a filling brunch, or a satisfying dinner, this dish is simple to make yet packed with flavor. With tender pork, crispy potatoes, and a blend of savory seasonings, it’s the kind of meal that feels like home.

To make this dish, you’ll start by browning pieces of pork in a hot skillet. Ground pork works well, but you can also use leftover roast pork or even pork belly for extra richness. As the pork cooks, it releases its juices and becomes golden and crispy on the edges. Once browned, remove the pork from the skillet and set it aside.

Next, cook diced potatoes in the same skillet until they’re golden and crispy. The crispy texture of the potatoes is key to this dish, and using a little oil or butter helps them get that perfect crunch while still remaining tender on the inside. You can add onions and bell peppers to the potatoes as they cook to build layers of flavor. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder, or any spices you enjoy to give the hash an extra punch.

Once the potatoes are crispy and golden, return the cooked pork to the skillet and toss everything together. Let the flavors meld for a few minutes, allowing the pork to warm through and infuse the potatoes with its savory juices. If you like, crack a few eggs on top of the hash and let them cook sunny side up for added richness and texture.

Pork and potato hash is incredibly versatile. You can add greens like spinach or kale for some freshness or top the dish with cheese, hot sauce, or fresh herbs for an extra layer of flavor. Whether you serve it with a side of toast or just enjoy it on its own, this hash is the ultimate comfort food that’s both filling and full of flavor. Simple to make, satisfying to eat, and perfect for any time of day.
