Pita Chips

April 7, 2026

Pita Chips are a crunchy, flavorful snack made from pita bread that is cut into pieces and baked or fried until crisp. Known for their light texture and satisfying crunch, they are a popular alternative to traditional chips and pair perfectly with a variety of dips and spreads.

The process of making pita chips is simple yet effective. Pita bread is sliced into wedges or squares, lightly brushed with olive oil, and seasoned with salt or spices before being baked until golden and crisp. This method creates a crunchy snack that retains the subtle flavor of the bread while allowing the seasonings to shine.

One of the reasons pita chips are so popular is their versatility. They can be seasoned in countless ways, from classic sea salt to bold flavors like garlic, paprika, or herbs. Some variations even include sweet seasonings such as cinnamon and sugar, making them suitable for both savory and sweet pairings.

Pita chips are commonly served with dips like hummus, guacamole, tzatziki, or salsa, making them a staple for appetizers and party platters. Their sturdy texture also makes them ideal for scooping thicker dips without breaking, adding to their practicality as a snack.

In addition to being a great snack, pita chips can be used creatively in meals. They can be crushed and used as a topping for salads or soups, adding a crunchy element that enhances texture. They can also be served alongside Mediterranean dishes or used as a base for simple appetizers.

Pita chips are often considered a lighter alternative to fried snacks, especially when baked instead of fried. They can be made at home with minimal ingredients or purchased in a variety of flavors, offering convenience and choice.

Overall, pita chips are a delicious, versatile snack that combines simplicity with satisfying crunch. Whether enjoyed on their own or paired with dips, they provide a flavorful and enjoyable option for casual snacking or entertaining.

Why not just buy them at the store? So much easier!

Wow, I just mix butter instead, is that bad? Tastes good tho.

I tried making them but burnt them 😩. Need to watch them closely next time.

  6. User avatar jenee.mills1999 says:

    4 stars
I used regular bread instead of pita and it was still good! Just sayin’!

  7. User avatar ronni.harvey says:

    2 stars
I dunno, they came out kinda soggy for me. Followed the recipe exactly.

    1. 4 stars
That’s strange! I make these all the time and they usually turn out crispy. Maybe your oven temp was off? 🤔

  8. 3 stars
The oven temp says 400°F but my oven runs hot, so mine got burnt. If you know your oven’s aggressive, adjust the time. Otherwise solid recipe.

    1. User avatar Kassadin says:

      4 stars
Mine came out fine at 400, so I think the recipe is right. Maybe your pita was thinner or your baking sheet was too close to the heating element? But yes, every oven different. I’d still follow the golden brown cue.

    2. User avatar kenneth.becker20 says:

      5 stars
Yeah, I’m totally with you. My oven runs hot too—usually I drop it to like 375°F and start checking around 10 minutes. At 400°F mine would burn the edges fast.

  9. User avatar roger.frami says:

    5 stars
These turned out amazing! Perfectly crispy and so easy to make. Will definitely make again!

  10. 2 stars
Waste of time, they didn’t turn out like the store bought ones. 😒

    1. User avatar liberal.hero says:

      3 stars
I had the same problem! They didn’t come out crispy like I expected. Maybe it’s the oven? 🤔

  11. User avatar lauran.wintheiser2 says:

Yumm!!! 😋 Easy to make and super tasty. Perfect for dipping in salsa! Will def make again!

So glad you liked it! These are my go-to for parties. Salsa or hummus, can’t go wrong! 😊

  12. User avatar Miles Teg says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, mine didn’t crisp up at all. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤷‍♂️

  13. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    5 stars
I added some paprika and they were so good! Highly recommend trying it!

    1. User avatar cristopher.ryan69 says:

      2 stars
Really? Paprika? I don’t know if that matches with pita chips. Sounds odd to me.

    2. User avatar Deep Thought says:

      5 stars
Paprika sounds like a great idea! I’m gonna try that next time. Thanks for the tip!

  14. User avatar carter.bruen4 says:

    3 stars
Super easy snack, but I think I added too much salt 🤐. Next time, I’ll tone it down.

    1. User avatar Oolon Colluphid says:

      2 stars
Too much salt? Just use less next time, duh! These chips are super easy, don’t overthink it.

    2. User avatar Tom Bombadil says:

      4 stars
Yeah, salt can really sneak up on you! I usually try to reduce it too, especially if I’m using an already salty dip. Hope you enjoy them next time!

  15. User avatar romeo.hamill says:

    5 stars
Omg this is sooo easy! I could make these every day. Who needs store-bought chips?!

    1. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      5 stars
Yes!! They’re way better than that junk from the store! Plus, you can customize with different spices.

    2. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      2 stars
I dunno, seems like a lot of work for chips. Why not just buy them?

  16. 4 stars
easy to make but I burnt mine lol. watch them closely!

  17. User avatar lourdes.kutch1960 says:

    4 stars
Didn’t have oregano so I used basil instead. Still turned out delicious! Love how easy this is.

  18. User avatar debbi.stiedemann2 says:

    2 stars
This recipe seems simple, but it’s kinda boring without some cheese dip or something. What’s the best dip?

    1. User avatar thanh.friesen1967 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! Cheese dip would really make it pop! Try a classic nacho cheese or even some spicy queso. Yum!

  19. User avatar jackson.nicolas87 says:

    5 stars
Yum! I added cayenne for a kick and they turned out amazing. My kids even ate them!

  20. User avatar Ms. Norris Spinka says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have dried oregano, so I used Italian seasoning. Still tasty, though not exactly the same. Also, 3 tbsp oil feels like a lot for 4 pitas—maybe I was light on brushing.

  21. User avatar Cherly Kassulke says:

    2 stars
Why do you need to brush oil? They get oily anyway when you bake them. Not worth the calories!

  22. User avatar Rosa Sisters says:

    4 stars
Why do they call it ‘extra virgin’ olive oil? Sounds weird to me. Anyway, chips turned out decent. Maybe I’ll try it with some hummus.

    1. User avatar roxane.gulgowski34 says:

      5 stars
Extra virgin just means it’s the best quality! It’s about how the olives are processed. Glad your chips turned out decent! Hummus would be great with them.

    2. User avatar martin.hagenes says:

      3 stars
Who cares about the name, just taste it! Chips with hummus sound good tho, I’ll have to try that too. But I’m not sure if the ‘extra virgin’ makes it better, lol.

  23. 4 stars
I followed the recipe pretty much exactly, but mine got a little too dark around minute 12. Still tasty though—next time I’ll start checking earlier.

  24. User avatar shanae.jacobs74 says:

    3 stars
I found this recipe pretty basic. They were good, but I’ve had better pita chips from the store. Not sure if I’d make again.

    1. User avatar deangelo.dickinson78 says:

      2 stars
Idk, but I agree it sounds kinda bland. I’ve never been a big fan of cooking anyway. How do u even make them crispy? Mine always turn soft.

    2. User avatar keisha.dubuque10 says:

      5 stars
I think these are way better than store-bought! The homemade flavor is unbeatable. Give it another shot, maybe with some extra spices!

  25. User avatar Estefana Senger IV says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I found the seasoning a bit salty. Maybe “1 teaspoon to taste” should mean less for me, lol.

    1. User avatar loma.fahey says:

      5 stars
Totally fair—“to taste” can be way different depending on the brand and your salt sensitivity. I usually start with a bit less salt too (like 1/2 tsp) and add after if needed. 😄

  26. 4 stars
I actually burned the first batch (oops). But after lowering the rack and watching closely, the second batch was crunchy and not greasy at all.

    1. User avatar wildebeest says:

      5 stars
That’s totally relatable—burnt batch happens! Lowering the rack and keeping an eye on them is the key. Glad your second batch came out crunchy and not greasy 👍

  27. User avatar jacinto.braun45 says:

    3 stars
I burnt mine a lil bit 😬, but still edible. Watch your oven time closely!

  28. User avatar Hayden Koch says:

    3 stars
Ok, but not life changing. Tastes like seasoned toast wedges. Still snackable.

    1. User avatar gary.ruecker96 says:

      4 stars
Honestly I agree. Mine came out like very seasoned toast chips—still great with hummus though. Next time I’ll add a pinch of smoked paprika for more “wow.”

    2. User avatar Dominic Vernius says:

      3 stars
Bro if it tastes like toast wedges, you overcooked or used too much oregano lol. Try lowering to 375 and flip halfway—mine got super crunchy and not burnt.

  29. User avatar kenny.langosh says:

    3 stars
I found this recipe kinda bland. Needs more seasoning or some cheese dust maybe?

    1. User avatar davis.connelly1960 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! I added some parmesan on top and it made a huge difference. Cheese dust is a great idea!

    2. User avatar shannan.dickens97 says:

      2 stars
Bland? Nah, I thought they were just fine! Maybe you just need to experiment more with spices.

  30. User avatar daniell.murazik72 says:

    5 stars
Yum! I added paprika for a kick and it turned out awesome. Definitely a keeper!

  31. 5 stars
Not gonna lie, these are better than store-bought chips. Crisp, salty, and they hold up with hummus. Thank you for the simple steps!

  32. 3 stars
They taste alright, but I thought they’d be crunchier. Maybe I needed to bake them longer?

  33. User avatar Dominic Vernius says:

    2 stars
Too garlicky!! I like garlic but this was a bit much. I should’ve listened to my mom about moderation. Yikes!

    1. User avatar vincenzo.langosh9 says:

      4 stars
I think the garlic adds a great flavor! Maybe tone it down a bit next time?

  34. User avatar jesusa.bosco1996 says:

    3 stars
Pita chips? Sounds fancy! But aren’t these just like the way we do it at home with tortillas?

  35. User avatar lonny.keebler76 says:

    5 stars
These are the best! I made a big batch for my party and they were gone in minutes! So simple and yummy. 🙂

    1. User avatar kurt.orn55 says:

      3 stars
Really? I tried this recipe, but mine turned out kinda soggy. What did I do wrong? 🤔

    2. 5 stars
I totally agree! These chips are a hit at every gathering. Super easy to make too! 🙂

  36. User avatar miquel.zulauf99 says:

    5 stars
Yummy! Perfect for my hummus dip. Love it!

  37. User avatar Vincenzo McLaughlin says:

    3 stars
I tried making these but they just turned out too hard. I must’ve left them in too long? Gonna try again.

  38. User avatar lamar.fay says:

    5 stars
These were fantastic! Made them for a movie night and everyone loved them. Definitely making again!

  39. User avatar salina.bergnaum37 says:

    4 stars
400°F for 15 minutes felt a little short, but mine were golden by minute 13. Still super easy—will make again with smoked paprika next time.

  40. User avatar luba.frami says:

    3 stars
Are these healthy? I don’t trust anything that calls it a chip!

  41. User avatar del.morar76 says:

    2 stars
Wait… olive oil amount feels low? I used more and they were better, so yeah not sure about the ratios.

  42. User avatar angelo.abernathy says:

    3 stars
Quick note: I don’t measure “to taste” salt well lol. I probably overdid it but they were still delicious. Could use a little less salt.

  43. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    4 stars
These pita chips are perfect for hummus. I’ve made them three times already!

    1. User avatar Théoden says:

      4 stars
I haven’t tried this yet, but it sounds delicious! Maybe I’ll make it this weekend.

    2. User avatar Arthur Philip Deodat says:

      2 stars
Three times? That seems a bit much for pita chips, don’t you think? They’re just bread, after all.

  44. 1 star
Ain’t no way these are healthy! Pita bread is just white bread in disguise. 😒

  45. 1 star
Pita chips?? I thought they were supposed to be soft? lol. Am I missing something?

  46. User avatar lester.leannon64 says:

    4 stars
Quick and easy, but I used regular salt and I think it was too salty. Gonna try again with less salt.

    1. User avatar halflife4 says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue with the salt! You can always add it gradually until you get the right taste. Good luck next time!

    2. User avatar dannie.davis2 says:

      3 stars
Too salty? Just use less salt, duh! Your taste buds will thank you.

  47. User avatar Quickbeam says:

    4 stars
This recipe is super easy but I think it could use some Parmesan. Just saying! #cheeselover

  48. User avatar chantelle.harber says:

    2 stars
These are just glorified toast. Who thinks they can replace real chips? 🙄

    1. User avatar halflife4 says:

      3 stars
But they really don’t have the same crunch! I guess if you’re watching calories, they might be okay, but it’s not the same thing.

    2. 5 stars
I totally disagree! Pita chips are tasty and way healthier than regular chips. They have their own flavor! 😋

  49. User avatar lindsay.orn95 says:

    5 stars
Just wow. Best snack ever and so easy! #GameChanger

  50. 5 stars
These chips are sooo good!! Can’t believe I never made my own before. 🎉

  51. User avatar Cave Bear says:

    5 stars
Snack time! Perfect with hummus! Definitely a keeper! 😋

  52. User avatar jere.donnelly1950 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have oregano, so I used basil. Still turned out good.

  53. User avatar cierra.becker says:

    5 stars
These pita chips are amazing! Crunchy and flavorful. Will make again!

  54. User avatar Caulifla says:

    5 stars
The garlic + oregano combo is spot on. I ate these straight off the tray like it was a snack emergency.

  55. User avatar bruno.lueilwitz says:

    1 star
They taste like cardboard, not sure where the crunchiness came from. 🤷‍♂️

  56. User avatar sanford.block22 says:

    5 stars
400°F is perfect. I baked them 15 minutes and they came out golden and crunchy without being burnt. My kids actually ate them—bonus!

  57. User avatar justin.christiansen83 says:

    3 stars
I tried this once and they were kinda greasy. I think I brushed too heavily—also I cut thicker wedges than suggested. Flavor was great though.

    1. User avatar jeffrey.rohan94 says:

      4 stars
Huh, I actually got the greasy too the first time 😅 I think I used way too much olive oil. Also I’m pretty sure my oven runs hot, so mine browned faster—maybe check at 10-12 min. Flavor is still top though!

    2. 5 stars
Glad the flavor still worked for you! Greasiness usually comes from either brushing a little too much oil or thinner wedges not crisping evenly—next time try a lighter hand and keep an eye on browning around 12-15 minutes.

  58. User avatar deshawn.abshire says:

    5 stars
These pita chips are amazing! Super crunchy and the seasoning is spot on.

  59. User avatar floria.bashirian13 says:

    5 stars
These pita chips are so crunchy and delicious! I added some paprika for extra flavor. Definitely a new favorite snack!

  60. User avatar Leto Atreides says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about “let cool” because I always skip it… and yeah, they weren’t crisp until I waited. Lesson learned.

    1. User avatar Shadout Mapes says:

      5 stars
Totally feel you—“let cool” sounds optional until you actually try it. I used to pull them right away and they tasted kinda soft. Waiting makes them way crispier.

  61. 3 stars
I think 15 minutes is too vague. Every oven is different—mine were soft until I baked them closer to 20.

  62. 5 stars
Easy recipe!!! Pita chips! Wow wow wow 😍

  63. User avatar bibi.kuhic says:

    1 star
I’m not a fan. Pita bread should NOT be chips!

  64. User avatar dedra.dooley64 says:

    4 stars
The directions are simple, but 3 tbsp olive oil for that much pita felt like it might weigh them down. Surprisingly they stayed crisp though.

  65. User avatar maegan.russel says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but mine were a little bland. I think I under-salted or my garlic powder was weak—next time I’ll bump the salt and oregano.

  66. User avatar Ms. Marvin Welch says:

    5 stars
These turned out super crispy! I used whole wheat pitas and the flavor is really good—especially the garlic + oregano combo. Will make again for movie night.

    1. User avatar Owen Friesen says:

      5 stars
Yes! Crispy pita chips are the best. The garlic + oregano really does something—kinda like restaurant seasoning. 😄

    2. User avatar gale.ondricka says:

      4 stars
Whole wheat pitas can be a gamble but I’m glad it worked for you. I usually bake mine closer to 12–13 min or they get too dark… 15 min might depend on your oven.

  67. User avatar calvin.stanton says:

    4 stars
Simple and actually works. I used regular pita and it was fine—just not as flavorful as I bet whole wheat would be.

  68. User avatar Leto II Atreides says:

    5 stars
My pitas got crispy, yes, but they also cracked like paper and my house smelled like garlic for hours (not a bad thing).

  69. User avatar alana.gorczany51 says:

    5 stars
Omg these are the best! I ate the whole batch in one sitting. 😂 Thanks for sharing!

  70. 2 stars
I thought these would be good, but they turned out too hard for my taste. Maybe I overbaked them?

  71. User avatar antony.schamberger90 says:

    5 stars
These came out perfectly crispy! The garlic oregano combo is spot on and the whole wheat pita makes them taste way more hearty than store-bought.

  72. User avatar cyndy.schuppe89 says:

    4 stars
I added some chili powder and they turned out spicy! Yum! 🌶️

    1. User avatar alfredo.herzog63 says:

      3 stars
Chili powder? Is that even a good idea? Sounds risky for pita chips, but whatever works for you.

    2. 5 stars
Sounds delicious! I love a bit of spice in my snacks! 🌶️✨

  73. User avatar geoWizard says:

    3 stars
Too salty for me. I would cut the sea salt next time. But good idea overall👌

  74. User avatar Lazaro Zieme says:

    5 stars
These came out way crispier than I expected. Whole wheat pitas + the oregano smell amazing right when they go in the oven.

  75. User avatar Nakita Herman says:

    4 stars
Good base recipe. I added a pinch of chili flakes and they were great with hummus. Wish it mentioned flipping halfway, though.

  76. User avatar Veronique Feest says:

    2 stars
I love pita chips, but 1 tsp salt for 4 pitas seems like maybe too much? Mine were borderline salty. Otherwise flavor was good.

  77. User avatar rory.johnston says:

    4 stars
Good snack idea, but mine got a little too dark on the edges around 12 minutes. Next time I’ll start checking earlier and rotate the tray.

  78. 4 stars
I didn’t cool them long enough and they were kinda chewy—learned my lesson. Cool = crisp! Will make again.

  79. User avatar estella.zemlak says:

    5 stars
This is easy, cheap, and the pantry spices actually matter. Next time I’ll add a pinch of chili powder for heat. Definitely a keeper.

  80. User avatar Cleveland Goodwin says:

    4 stars
Could you do these in an air fryer? I tried once and it turned out chewy. Your oven method seems more reliable.
