Mixed Berry Chocolate Crumble

August 9, 2023

For those moments when you want something that’s both comforting and indulgent, Mixed Berry Chocolate Crumble is the dessert to turn to. A perfect balance of sweet berries, rich chocolate, and a crispy, buttery topping, this crumble is a crowd-pleaser that brings together the best of both worlds, fresh fruit and decadent chocolate.

The magic of this dessert lies in its simplicity. Fresh mixed berries, think juicy strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, are the star of the show. Their natural sweetness and slight tartness shine through, making them the perfect base for this dish. As the berries bake, they release their juices, creating a luscious, jammy filling that pairs beautifully with the crispy crumble topping.

What elevates this crumble from ordinary to extraordinary is the addition of chocolate. Whether you choose dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or even a bit of both, the rich, melted chocolate swirls through the berry mixture, adding a deep, indulgent flavor. The contrast between the tartness of the berries and the sweetness of the chocolate creates an irresistible combination that is both satisfying and comforting.

The crumble topping is the perfect finishing touch. Made with butter, sugar, and flour, it crisps up beautifully as it bakes, giving each bite a satisfying crunch. For an extra touch of richness, you can mix in a handful of oats or chopped nuts for added texture and flavor.

Mixed Berry Chocolate Crumble is incredibly versatile. Serve it warm out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a classic finish. It also makes a wonderful addition to a brunch spread, or even as an afternoon treat with a cup of coffee or tea.

This dessert is easy to prepare, making it perfect for a weeknight indulgence or a casual gathering with friends and family. Mixed Berry Chocolate Crumble is a delightful way to satisfy your sweet tooth while enjoying the flavors of fresh fruit and chocolate in every bite.

I tried this recipe but it was too sweet for my taste. Maybe less sugar next time?

Made this last night—so good. The crumble is perfectly chocolatey, and the berries stay juicy. I added a pinch more cinnamon and it was spot on.

    1. User avatar johnny.stark says:

      4 stars
Made something similar before and the topping got too dry. Was yours still crumbly/soft underneath after 40 mins?

    2. User avatar Dwarven Centurion says:

      5 stars
Yesss I love when the berries stay juicy like that—this sounds dangerously good. Adding cinnamon is a great call!

  3. 4 stars
I substituted the butter for coconut oil to make it vegan. Yummy!

    1. User avatar wilfredo.goldner0 says:

      3 stars
I don’t think coconut oil tastes the same as butter tho. Isn’t it gonna change the flavor?

    2. User avatar jewel.damore says:

      5 stars
Coconut oil is a great substitute! I love that you’re making it vegan. Can’t wait to try it your way!

  4. User avatar steven.mante1979 says:

The instructions were a bit confusing. Do I really need to preheat the oven? I just throw everything in and bake it.

  5. 2 stars
Easy to make, but my crumble didn’t crumble. More like a mush.

  6. User avatar pierre.kirlin1964 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have strawberries, so I used only blueberries and blackberries. Still good!

    1. User avatar rikki.mraz45 says:

      5 stars
Blueberries and blackberries sound great! I love mixing things up.

  7. User avatar cory.ondricka80 says:

Idk about that lemon juice part, kinda weird. I just like sweet stuff, not sour. But it looks pretty.

  8. 2 stars
Meh, looks too complicated. I don’t have time for all these steps. 😒

  9. User avatar Rito Chieftain says:

    2 stars
I don’t get the whole chocolate with berries thing. Seems weird to me.

  10. User avatar joanna.runolfsdottir18 says:

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree! This crumble is heavenly! 😊

Made this for dessert night and everyone went back for seconds. The chocolate chips in the topping are such a nice surprise.

    1. User avatar sally.stehr96 says:

Seriously so good—made this last night and the topping chocolate chips were the best part. Mine came out super golden and everyone went for seconds too.

    2. User avatar jacob.spinka says:

      5 stars
I tried it for dessert night as well and it did not disappoint. The berry + cocoa combo is such a nice balance, not too sweet. Would absolutely make again.

  15. 3 stars
375°F for 35-40 min felt long for my oven—my top got dark before the center bubbled much. I’d check at like 25-30 next time.

  16. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    5 stars
OMG this crumble is life!!! I added some walnuts and it was even better than I expected! 😍

  17. 5 stars
Five stars just for how easy it is. No fancy steps, and the kitchen smelled amazing. Definitely making again for guests.

    1. User avatar wes.pfannerstill27 says:

      4 stars
I liked the simplicity, but mine didn’t get that “golden brown” crumble—maybe my butter was too soft? Still tasted great though. Next time I’ll make sure everything stays cold.

    2. 5 stars
Five stars too—this was super easy and didn’t feel fussy at all. The berries really smell so good while baking. I made it for guests and everyone went back for seconds.

  18. 4 stars
I didn’t have all the ingredients but used what I had and it still came out okay!

  19. User avatar janette.wiegand says:

The balance of cocoa + cinnamon is really nice. I added extra lemon zest and it tasted even brighter.

  20. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

This recipe is legit! Can’t believe how easy it is. Gonna make it again for sure.

    1. 2 stars
I dunno, seems too simple. How can it be that good? Just berries and flour? 🤔

    2. User avatar marcelene.corkery says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad you liked it! It’s super easy and delicious, right? I love making it for gatherings.

    1. User avatar omar.turner49 says:

      4 stars
Honestly, who likes berries anyway? Chocolate is way better! 😄

  22. 4 stars
Sounds good but im a chocolate lover, just chocolate not mixed with the berry! Ill try it but with more chocolate. 4 stars.

  28. User avatar wenona.glover says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the cocoa powder in fruit desserts… kinda weird if you ask me. Will stick to regular crumble.

  29. 1 star
Mixed berries is that what I was supposed to use? I thought mixed meant any fruit. LOL.

  30. 5 stars
Yum! Will definitely make again. Ice cream on top makes it so much better! 😋

  31. User avatar evangeline.parisian52 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is the best. My family loved it. Will make again for sure!

  32. User avatar weston.strosin60 says:

    3 stars
I’m confused about the butter amount—1/2 cup was kind of a lot for me. My topping was still crumbly though, so maybe I just didn’t cut it enough.

  33. User avatar johnathan.kertzmann65 says:

    4 stars
Honestly, didn’t expect it to work but it did. The chocolate chips in the topping give it this rich flavor that pairs way better than I thought.

  34. User avatar gaylord.baumbach2024 says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure about chocolate with berries… Sounds weird. Maybe I’ll give it a shot but I’m skeptical.

  35. User avatar damian.marquardt says:

    3 stars
I think 1 cup flour might be too much for the topping ratio? Mine was more like thick cookie dough than crumble. Still good, just not the texture I expected.

  36. User avatar Nightmare says:

    3 stars
Is there a way to make this without sugar? Seems too sweet for me.

    1. User avatar Ford Prefect says:

      4 stars
You can try using a sugar substitute or just omit the sugar altogether! The berries are sweet enough on their own.

  37. User avatar Hwi Noree says:

    4 stars
I wasn’t sure about mixing chocolate with berries, but wow, I was wrong. Yum!

  38. User avatar lea.white54 says:

    4 stars
I love chocolate and berries together! But I don’t know how to make crumble tho 😅

  39. User avatar devin.farrell says:

    1 star
How do you even mix chocolate with fruit? That’s not right. Gonna stick with my apple pie.

  40. User avatar Corina Armstrong MD says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid recipe! I used frozen berries and added like 5 extra minutes to get it bubbling. Crumb came out a bit dry for me though—maybe my butter was too cold or I overmixed.

  41. User avatar shana.keebler38 says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps but used frozen berries. Still worked great, though I baked about 10 min longer because it was more watery at first.

  42. User avatar moshe.balistreri2003 says:

    3 stars
I love crumble desserts, but I’m skeptical about cooking berries with that much topping—felt like it didn’t thicken much. Still tasted good, just runnier than I thought it would be.

  43. User avatar tonja.tillman says:

    5 stars
This was amazing! The chocolate and berries go so well together! I added a few nuts for crunch.

  44. User avatar latarsha.cormier93 says:

    5 stars
Best dessert ever! The choc and berries are a perfect match! Will definitely make this again! 😍

  45. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    3 stars
Can you use frozen berries? I have some that need to be used.

  46. User avatar misti.hyatt1980 says:

    2 stars
Too sweet for my taste. I think if I reduced the sugar, it would taste better. Not impressed. 2 stars.

  47. User avatar analisa.thiel says:

    3 stars
Easy to make but the butter kinda made it too greasy, didn’t enjoy that part. Maybe use less butter next time??

    1. User avatar valentine.kessler1980 says:

      3 stars
Nah, I think the butter gives it richness. Maybe you just got a bit too much? Just use your eyes, lol.

    2. 4 stars
I totally agree! The butter can be over the top. I used only a quarter cup and it turned out great!

  48. User avatar coy.carroll says:

    3 stars
Tasted great but my crumble turned out more like soup. Maybe I added too much butter?

    1. User avatar phil.breitenberg23 says:

      2 stars
How can a crumble turn into soup? That’s weird! Maybe you should’ve baked it longer or something.

    2. User avatar santina.kozey1 says:

      4 stars
It sounds like you might have used too much butter or maybe didn’t mix the crumble enough. Try less butter next time or just keep mixing until it’s crumbly! Good luck!

  49. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I expected more chocolate. Needs a lot more cocoa!

  50. User avatar florencio.hand65 says:

  54. User avatar jackie.cole52 says:

    5 stars
Super easy recipe, especially steps 3-5 with the butter. I used a fork and it turned into crumbs fast.

  55. User avatar Spider Guardian says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make and SO good! Used frozen berries and it worked fine. Yummy!! 😋

  56. User avatar Phil A. Mignon says:

Crumble turned out great! I added some walnuts, and it was perfect.

    1. User avatar josephina.metz78 says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! Walnuts must add a nice crunch. I might try it with pecans next time!

    2. 2 stars
Great that it worked out for you, but berries are overrated. Wouldn’t chocolate only be better?

  57. 3 stars
I’m not sure about the lemon juice—mine was a bit too sharp, but overall still tasty. If you don’t like tang, maybe reduce it.

  58. User avatar magaly.erdman says:

    3 stars
Sounds good but my kids are picky eaters. They won’t touch it. But I might try it for myself!

  59. 2 stars
I don’t understand why you use chocolate in a berry dish. Seems kinda weird to me.

  60. 5 stars
This looks amazing! Can’t wait to try it out! 🫐🍓

  61. 5 stars
I love this! It’s like a dessert crisis averted. Chocolate fix satisfied! 🍫✨

  62. 5 stars
So delicious I could eat the whole pan myself! Chocolate chips are a game changer. Thank you for this recipe!

  63. User avatar darius.abernathy1963 says:

    4 stars
I made this with frozen berries and it turned out fine! But my kids didn’t like the chocolate part.

  64. 4 stars
My kids loved it! It’s so easy to make too. We added some whipped cream on top, yum!

    1. User avatar Emily Saunders says:

Sounds nice, but I’m not sure about mixing chocolate with fruit? Isn’t that weird?

    2. 5 stars

  66. User avatar noah.considine85 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the combo of cocoa + berries—felt a little like dessert-for-breakfast. But I’m also weird, so whatever.

    1. User avatar wellRespected says:

      4 stars
Honestly I get what you mean about dessert-for-breakfast 😂 but that’s kinda the point, right? The lemon keeps it from feeling too heavy.

  67. 3 stars
Pretty tasty, but I found it a bit sweet for my taste. Next time I’ll cut the brown sugar just a little and maybe use less chocolate chips.

  68. 2 stars
Did I miss something? I followed the recipe but it was too sweet, and the crumbles were weird. 🤨

  69. User avatar dillon.cassin says:

    5 stars
This was absolutely delicious! The chocolate and berries together are a game changer. 😍

  70. User avatar Falmer Nightprowler says:

    3 stars
I used frozen berries and it turned out okay, but semi-sweet choc chips just don’t mix with berries!

  71. 2 stars
I burned mine. How do ya even know when its ready?? Too many berries in the blend!

    1. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      4 stars
You gotta watch it closely! The berries should be bubbling and the top golden, but if it gets too dark, it’s probably burnt. Maybe try less berries next time!

    2. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

      3 stars
I always burn mine too! 😅 Just bake it until it smells good? Who needs measuring when it’s a crumble!

  72. User avatar ramon.denesik20 says:

    2 stars
What is a ‘coarse crumb’? I did something wrong, my topping is too mushy. Help?

  73. 3 stars
I forgot to preheat the oven and had to redo the whole thing. Ugh, why am I so forgetful?

  74. 3 stars
Maybe my berries were too tart? I felt like it needed more sugar overall. Otherwise texture was on point.

    1. User avatar chris.gibson says:

      5 stars
Totally possible—berries can vary a LOT. Next time try adding a bit more sugar to the berries (or a tiny pinch of extra brown sugar in the crumble). I also sometimes swap lemon juice to 1/2 tbsp if they’re already tangy.

  75. User avatar Charles Darwin says:

    2 stars
375°F feels kinda low? I baked and it was still bubbling but the top didn’t fully crisp like other crumbles I’ve done.

  76. User avatar frankie.armstrong49 says:

    5 stars
Ok wow, this slapped. I ate it warm straight from the dish. The combo of cinnamon + berries + chocolate is legit. 10/10 would recommend.

    1. User avatar wilford.gleason says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Cinnamon + berries + chocolate is such a power combo. Glad you tried it warm right away—crispy crumble settles fast.

  77. User avatar wellRespected says:

Delicious! My family loved it! ❤️ I’ll be making this for our next barbecue!

  78. 5 stars
Just made it! Looks as good as in the picture. Tasty too!

  79. 5 stars
Yum! Just straight up yum! 😍

  80. User avatar Draugr Thrall says:

    3 stars
I thought it would be better. The chocolate overshadows the berries too much for my taste. Next time I’ll skip the cocoa.

  81. 2 stars
Had a disaster in the oven! My crumble didn’t come together, it was more like soup. What went wrong? 😩

  82. User avatar caroline.mraz20 says:

    5 stars
I followed the recipe exactly and it was super tasty. Will definitely make it again!

  83. User avatar Anibal Deckow says:

Is vanilla ice cream a must? I don’t think so. 😂

  85. 5 stars
Took me less than an hour to bake! Simple and delicious! Great for beginners. 5/5!

    1. User avatar elvis.runte1982 says:

      2 stars
I tried this recipe and it was a disaster! My crumble turned out soggy, and I’m not sure what went wrong. Maybe I added too much butter?

    2. User avatar Ms. Bradley Schneider says:

      5 stars
Absolutely loved it! The combination of berries and chocolate is just heavenly. Will definitely make it again!

  86. User avatar darleen.rowe1965 says:

    3 stars
What kind of berries? Can I use frozen ones? Asking for future reference. 🤔

  87. User avatar Vroomfondel says:

    4 stars
This is just a fancy way of sayin’ ‘berry pie with choc’. Messy to make, but it was worth it.

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! It does sound fancy for just berry pie. But hey, chocolate makes everything better! Yum!

    2. 2 stars
Messy? I dunno, mine was a piece of cake to make. Maybe you need to work on the technique! 😂

  88. User avatar charlette.koss says:

    3 stars
This recipe is missing something… I dunno, maybe more chocolate? 🤷‍♂️

  89. 5 stars
This recipe is a game changer! The chocolate and berries combo is divine! Definitely making this again!

  90. User avatar hayden.schumm says:

    5 stars
Made this last weekend—my kitchen smelled like dessert heaven. The crumble came out perfectly golden and the berries were so juicy.

  91. 3 stars
Easy to make but my crumble was soggy. Need more tips on getting it crispy.

  92. 4 stars
Pretty solid dessert. I used frozen berries and baked the same time; it still came out great, just a bit more juicy. Next time I’ll add a minute or two to thicken it.

    1. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Goku says:

      5 stars
Thanks for the heads-up! I’ve got frozen berries too, so that “more juicy” note is super helpful. I’ll definitely watch the bubbling and maybe bake a minute longer to set the topping.

  93. User avatar christoper.lakin19 says:

    5 stars
Kids loved it. I served it warm with ice cream and they went back for seconds. Can confirm: it disappears fast.

  94. 2 stars
An interesting combo, but I think the chocolate overpowered the berries. Not a fan.

  95. User avatar Major Kovacek says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about 35-40 mins for berries. Mine took longer and the center stayed watery until I waited.

    1. 4 stars
Yeah, totally get that. Berries can be weird—if they’re extra juicy or frozen, they usually take longer to stop looking watery in the middle.

  96. User avatar michel.ondricka says:

    5 stars
Made this last night and it was a total win—berry filling is bright and the crumble stays nice and chocolatey. I used frozen berries and still turned out great.

  97. 5 stars
This crumble is absolutely delicious! The mix of berries with chocolate is heavenly. Definitely a keeper!

    1. User avatar lyman.gorczany says:

I totally agree! This crumble is the best! I never thought of combining chocolate with berries like this. Yum!

  98. User avatar caron.powlowski21 says:

    2 stars
Mixed berries? Really? I thought only apple pie exist, but okay.

  99. 1 star
Way too sweet for me. Should’ve cut down the sugar. Never again!

  100. 3 stars
Not sure about the lemon juice in this. I think it made it too tangy. Maybe I’ll try without it next time.

  101. User avatar kristen.mcglynn18 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid recipe! I used frozen berries and baked about 40 minutes. Next time I’ll add a pinch more salt because I like the chocolate flavor to pop.

    1. 3 stars
I dunno, 35-40 minutes never seems enough for me. Mine came out kind of wet and the topping was more like sand than crumble. Maybe I used too much butter? Still tasted good though 😅

    2. User avatar Tamra Hoppe says:

      5 stars
Thanks! I’m glad it worked for you—frozen berries definitely need that extra bake time. I like your idea about the pinch more salt too; it really makes the cocoa pop.

  102. User avatar daron.labadie91 says:

I like crumble recipes, but why is there both granulated sugar and brown sugar? Seems kinda redundant, but it still came out nice.

I’m skeptical about “topping” getting crisp when it’s over berries, but wow—crunchy-ish edges happened. Would make again.

  106. User avatar lucien.kuphal says:

I overbaked mine because I forgot the timer 😅 but even then it tasted good. The top was a little hard though.

    1. User avatar meghann.erdman25 says:

      5 stars
Oof, forgetting the timer is the worst 😅 but honestly golden-brown crumble is usually a good sign. Hard top is probably just a little extra bake—next time maybe pull it at 35 instead of 40!

    2. 4 stars
Sounds pretty similar to what happens if the topping gets too crisp. I made this once and mine was borderline crunchy too. Letting it rest helps a bit—berries thicken and soften the crust.

  107. User avatar joya.hintz37 says:

This turned out *so* good—sweet-tart berries with a rich chocolate crumble. I used frozen berries and just baked a couple extra minutes.

  108. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

I had to substitute the butter for coconut oil and it still turned out great?

  109. User avatar lon.funk1992 says:

Too much sugar for my taste. I’ll scale that back next time.

    1. User avatar alysia.rice2012 says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you’re saying! I always find some recipes way too sweet. Maybe try using less sugar or a sugar alternative next time!

    2. User avatar truman.rippin37 says:

      2 stars
Nah, I think this recipe is perfect as is. The sweetness balances the tart berries nicely. What do you guys think?

Made this last night—so good. The crumble turned out perfectly golden and the berries were super juicy. I added a pinch more cinnamon and it was amazing.

    1. User avatar noble.collier57 says:

      3 stars
I made it once and mine turned out a little dry—maybe I baked it too long? What size baking dish did you use?

    2. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      5 stars
That sounds perfect 😍 Golden crumble + juicy berries is exactly what I want. Love the extra cinnamon idea!

  111. 2 stars
Not sure about the cocoa + cinnamon combo… it tastes kinda like chocolate oatmeal? I’m sure some people will love it but I found it weirdly heavy.

  112. User avatar Falmer Warmonger says:

    5 stars
The lemon juice really brightens it. I didn’t have unsalted butter so I used salted and cut back on the salt a touch—still delicious.

Couldn’t get my crumble to look like coarse crumbs at first—turned out my butter was too warm. Once I chilled it, texture improved a lot.

    1. User avatar shanti.stroman62 says:

      5 stars
Ohhh yes—same thing happened to me. I was like “why is this more like batter?!” Chilling the butter really saves it. Thanks for sharing your fix!

    2. User avatar Peregrin Took says:

      4 stars
Wait so butter too warm makes it not crumbly? I thought you just mix everything and it does its thing 😅 Next time I’ll chill longer. Probably my problem.

  114. User avatar augustine.lakin says:

    5 stars
This sounds DELICIOUS! Can’t wait to try it!

I was skeptical about mixing chocolate with berries, but it actually works! The crumble was a little soggy though. 3 stars.

    1. User avatar vinita.larson says:

      4 stars
I agree, chocolate and berries are a weird combo, but it can be yummy! Sorry about the sogginess though. Maybe try baking it a bit longer next time?

  116. User avatar ali.johnston14 says:

I dunno about chocolate and berries… seems weird! Did anyone tried this?

    1. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta says:

      4 stars
I thought the same at first, but it actually tastes amazing! You should give it a shot.

  117. 2 stars
Too much work for my liking. I’d rather just eat the berries raw, honestly.

  118. 3 stars
The texture was weird for me—my crumble kind of clumped instead of staying crumbly. I think my butter wasn’t cold enough. Flavor still good though.

  119. User avatar ezequiel.boyer43 says:

Berry crumble mix is like my fav! Always looking for new spins on it.

  120. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

This recipe is amazing! I made it for a family gathering, and everyone loved it. The chocolate and berries together are just perfect! 5 stars!

I wasn’t sure about adding lemon juice. Is it really necessary? I might skip it next time. 3 stars.

  122. User avatar mozella.bradtke says:

How can you bake fruit? I don’t understand this recipe, but who knows maybe its good. 🤷‍♂️

  123. User avatar francis.schumm5 says:

    3 stars
Why bake with berries when you can just eat them raw? 😅 But okay, the smell in the oven was amazing. I’ll try again with less sugar next time.

  124. 5 stars
Pretty easy and looks fancy for how little effort it takes. I used frozen mixed berries and just baked 5 extra minutes. Still worked great.

  125. User avatar selene.rippin8 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, it’s kinda messy to assemble but in a good way. I accidentally forgot the lemon juice once and it tasted flatter—so yeah, don’t skip that.

  126. 5 stars
Yum. That berry bubbling + cocoa crumble combo is real comfort food.

  127. 5 stars
This crumble was amazing! The mix of berries and chocolate was perfect. My family loved it. Will definitely make again!

  128. 3 stars
I made this but used frozen berries and they came out all mushy. Not a fan. 😕

  129. User avatar louanne.strosin80 says:

    2 stars
I’m not convinced about the lemon juice amount. Mine tasted a little too sharp, but adding ice cream fixed it. Still, flavor balance could be tweaked.

  130. 4 stars
I accidentally used salted butter and it was fine, but I wouldn’t recommend skipping the salt adjustment. Still tasty though.

  131. User avatar juan.buckridge says:

Pretty easy recipe. I follow steps, bake, eat. 10/10 would do again.

  132. User avatar Hilario Corwin says:

    4 stars
My dog loved it too! (Just kidding, I didn’t share) lol.

  133. 4 stars
The instructions are clear, but my crumble was more like cookie dough crumbs than “sand.” Still ate it all though 😅

    1. User avatar joe_banana says:

      4 stars
Maybe you just needed a bit longer baking? Mine firmed up more after it browned pretty deep on top. Still: the crumble sounds like it tastes amazing either way.

    2. User avatar debera.kiehn12 says:

      4 stars
Omg same 😅 Mine also turned more chunky/cookie-ish than “sand,” but it still came out so good. I think as long as the butter is cold and you don’t overmix it, it’ll work!

  134. User avatar derick.waelchi42 says:

Yummy! My kids can’t get enough of it. We used blueberries and added some nuts. Definitely making it again! 4 stars.

    1. 5 stars
That’s awesome! Blueberries and nuts sound like a perfect twist. What kind of nuts did you use?

    2. User avatar tricia.rippin1990 says:

      2 stars
I don’t think that sounds very good. Chocolate with berries? Not for me. But hey, to each their own, I guess.

  135. 5 stars
    so good. wow. 😍

  136. User avatar claud.fisher49 says:

    1 star
So I accidentally used too much salt, I made a mess. Haha, don’t be like me!

  137. 5 stars
Wow. Super easy and kinda foolproof. My kids ate it without complainin lol. Would do again 100%.

  138. 2 stars
My crumble didn’t get that ‘golden brown’ look—more like dusty brown. I baked 38 minutes. Maybe my oven runs cool or I didn’t pack the crumb enough?

  139. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

    1 star
Crumble was more like mush. Didn’t rise or get crunchy at all. Maybe I did something wrong? 1 star.

  140. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, I expected it to be sweeter. The lemon juice + berries tartness is strong. I added extra sugar and it was better, but otherwise meh.

  141. 3 stars
I used way more strawberries than the mix called for and it turned out a little watery. I think the mix balance matters. Still tasty, just not as thick.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—berries have different water content. If you go heavier on strawberries, it makes sense it turns out looser. Next time you could toss them with a bit more sugar or add a spoon of flour/cornstarch to thicken.

  142. 2 stars
375°F for 35-40 min felt too short in my oven. The topping browned fast but the berries were still kinda runny. Also my chocolate chips mostly sank—still edible though.

  143. User avatar kristofer.koss2 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but mine was a little too bitter from the cocoa. Next time I’ll reduce the cocoa or add a touch more sugar.

    1. User avatar stan.hermann1 says:

      5 stars
Good call—unsweetened cocoa can be super punchy. I usually add a bit more brown sugar (or 1–2 tbsp extra) and it makes a big difference. Also try slightly reducing cocoa next time.

    2. User avatar karleen.nolan says:

      4 stars
Mine wasn’t bitter, but I did notice it depends on the cocoa brand. If yours is darker/more intense, lowering it makes sense. Next bake, maybe swap some cocoa for flour?

  144. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    3 stars
I liked it, but it was a little too sweet for my taste. Next time I’ll reduce the brown sugar or add extra lemon juice to balance.

  145. 5 stars
Made this last night—so good. The crumble turned perfectly golden and the berries were bubbling like the recipe said. Chocolate chips in the topping was a genius move!

  146. User avatar Jerry Atrics says:

    5 stars
Made this last weekend and it disappeared way too fast. The lemon really wakes up the berries, and the crumble tastes like a brownie-cookie hybrid. 10/10 with vanilla ice cream.

  147. User avatar mathWizard says:

    4 stars
The crumble topping is exactly the vibe I wanted. Cold butter + crumbly texture worked perfectly. Next time I’ll add a pinch more cinnamon.

  148. 1 star
1/2 cup butter seems like a lot… mine came out greasy. I should’ve used salted? idk. Won’t make again, sorry.

  149. User avatar Frost Atronach says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid recipe. I had to bake it closer to 45 minutes because my berries were pretty juicy. Still came out golden and not too sweet. Would make again.

  150. User avatar sterling.adams says:

    3 stars
I found the crumble a bit dry. Maybe I packed the flour too much? Next time I’d add a touch more butter or even a splash more lemon to balance.

    1. User avatar January Strosin I says:

      4 stars
I had the same dry crumble vibe once—turns out I was overmixing the topping. Cutting the butter just until it’s crumbly helps a lot. Your note about more butter makes sense.
