Maple-Glazed Roast Chicken

November 6, 2024

Maple-Glazed Roast Chicken is a delightful dish that combines the savory richness of roasted chicken with the sweet and slightly smoky flavor of maple syrup. This dish is perfect for special occasions, family dinners, or when you’re looking to elevate your usual roast chicken recipe with a unique twist. The natural sweetness of maple syrup balances beautifully with the savory herbs and spices, creating a perfectly glazed, crispy skin and juicy, tender meat.

The key to this dish is the maple glaze, which is made by combining pure maple syrup with garlic, Dijon mustard, soy sauce, and a touch of rosemary or thyme. This mixture creates a sweet-savory coating that caramelizes beautifully during the roasting process, giving the chicken a shiny, golden finish. The syrup adds a hint of sweetness, while the mustard and soy sauce provide depth and complexity to the glaze.

The chicken itself is seasoned with classic herbs and spices like garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper, creating a flavorful base under the glaze. As the chicken roasts, the maple glaze is brushed onto the skin periodically, allowing it to form a delicious, slightly sticky coating that crisps up in the oven. The result is a juicy, flavorful roast chicken with a perfectly caramelized, golden skin.

Maple-Glazed Roast Chicken is a versatile dish that pairs wonderfully with a variety of side dishes. You can serve it with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a simple green salad for a well-rounded meal. The sweetness of the glaze also makes it a perfect accompaniment to savory sides, balancing out the richness of roasted vegetables or creamy mashed potatoes.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. While the ingredients are straightforward, the flavors come together in a way that makes the dish feel special. It’s a great way to add a touch of sweetness to a classic roast chicken, and it’s sure to be a hit at your next family dinner or gathering. Whether you’re a fan of sweet and savory combinations or just looking for a new way to prepare roast chicken, this recipe will quickly become a favorite.

This recipe is absolutely delicious! The maple syrup makes it so sweet and savory. My family loved it!

  2. 2 stars
1/2 cup maple syrup feels like a lot… and it was. The flavor was fine but it got a little caramel-bitter at the edges. Next time I’d reduce the syrup to 1/3 cup.

    1. User avatar kathleen.koelpin92 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—maple can go from sweet to kind of burnt/bitter fast at the edges. I’ve started doing closer to 1/3 cup too, and it behaves much better.

  3. User avatar Abraham Ullrich says:

    2 stars
Maple syrup on chicken? I thought that was only for pancakes. I don’t know if I like this.

  4. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    2 stars
I made this for dinner and it was kinda undercooked. Be sure to check the temp before serving!

  5. 4 stars
Yum! Gonna try it with honey instead of maple, hear honey’s better for chicken.

  6. 5 stars
This was the best roast chicken I’ve ever made! The maple glaze was so sweet and sticky, my whole family loved it! Definitely a keeper!

    1. User avatar Vladimir Harkonnen says:

      5 stars
Wow, that sounds delicious! I’m definitely going to try the maple glaze. My kids love sweet flavors!

  7. 5 stars
Yum! Just yum! Can I use turkey instead? Asking for Thanksgiving later! 🦃

  8. 5 stars
Made this tonight and it’s honestly restaurant-level. The maple + soy combo is such a good sweet-salty balance. I used a bit less salt since my soy sauce was already salty, but otherwise followed it exactly.

  9. User avatar walter.sipes says:

    2 stars
My glaze burned a bit at the end 😬 I think because I basted too close to the last stretch without watching. The chicken was cooked though. Next time I’ll tent with foil.

  10. User avatar stormy.barton68 says:

    3 stars
It was okay, I guess. My kids didn’t like it much. I’m stickin’ with BBQ next time.

  11. User avatar jocelyn.abernathy says:

    2 stars
meh. good smell but i dont know it was kinda bland inside. i think i forgot to baste enough or my chicken was too big. will try again.

    1. User avatar florance.farrell1985 says:

      4 stars
Totally get it—this glaze is good, but it can be a little mild if the basting is light or the chicken needs more time. Next time, try glazing every ~25-30 minutes and make sure you’re basting all the way through to the thickest part.

    2. User avatar byron.hegmann39 says:

      5 stars
Hmm maybe you overestimated the size? 3-4 lb is what I follow—if yours was bigger, 40 + 40 might not be enough. I’d check with a thermometer (165°F in the thickest part). Also, I once forgot the garlic and it tasted flat, so double-check that step 😅

  12. User avatar Aliza Harber says:

    4 stars
I tried it but made a few substitutions. Used honey instead of maple and it turned out good! Maybe try it that way?

    1. User avatar raymundo.ebert53 says:

      5 stars
Interesting substitution! Honey gives it a nice sweetness too. I’ll have to try that next time.

  13. User avatar jacquetta.wisozk says:

    5 stars
This is the best roast chicken I’ve ever made! The maple glaze gives it such a nice flavor. My family loved it!

    1. User avatar marion.dietrich says:

      2 stars
I tried this recipe and it turned out terrible! The glaze was too sweet for me. Never making it again.

  14. User avatar Kathryne Kertzmann says:

    5 stars
I loved the garlic in this! Really brought out the flavor. Will make again for sure!

  15. 2 stars
Not sure I’m doing this right. 40 minutes + 35–40 seems like way too long for a 3-4 lb bird—mine was already browned, and the inside was still kinda pink. Could be my oven though.

  16. User avatar jodee.parker29 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, I think the maple syrup is a bit much. It made it taste too sweet for my liking. Maybe less syrup next time?

  17. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

    5 stars
Amazing flavors! The maple glaze was a hit with my family. Definitely making this again!

    1. User avatar Monty Monahan PhD says:

      3 stars
Really? Maple glaze? I don’t know… sounds kinda weird for chicken, don’t you think?

    2. User avatar dwight.feest says:

      5 stars
That sounds delicious! I love using maple syrup in recipes. Can’t wait to try it myself!

  18. User avatar numbers.funk85 says:

    2 stars
Just okay. My chicken didn’t cook evenly and got burnt on one side. Maybe my oven is broken? 🤷‍♂️

  19. User avatar phillip.waters says:

    3 stars
Tastes too sweet. I think the maple is overpowering, next time I might only use a quarter cup.

    1. 2 stars
But the maple is what makes it taste good! Can’t believe you think it’s too sweet!

    2. User avatar Torchbugs says:

      5 stars
I actually loved the sweetness! Maybe try balancing it with some lemon juice next time?

  20. 3 stars
Took too long to cook and I kept wondering does chicken really taste good with syrup? Not sure I’d try again.

  21. 1 star
Too complicated! Why do I need to melt butter? Sounds like too much work.

  22. User avatar rhiannon.will51 says:

    5 stars
    Wow! Yummy 😋

  23. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

    4 stars
Really good, but I think 375°F is a bit low for a 4-lb chicken. Mine was taking forever. Also, I accidentally forgot the salt at first (oops) so I had to fix it with extra soy while roasting—still tasty.

    1. User avatar Carlena Wunsch says:

      3 stars
375 feels too low to me too. My 4-lb chicken would’ve been rubbery at that temp 😂 I crank it closer to 425 and get better browning, then lower it if it’s cooking too fast.

    2. User avatar jeneva.reichel70 says:

      5 stars
Thanks for sharing! I’m surprised about the temp though—375°F usually works, but for a thicker 4-lb bird you might definitely need closer to the high end of the time (or check with a thermometer).

  24. User avatar merilyn.mccullough27 says:

    5 stars
Pretty straightforward. The maple/soy combo smells like a fancy restaurant. I did 10 min longer because my chicken was a bit bigger, but no complaints.

  25. User avatar jeffrey.roob says:

    5 stars
This was a game changer! Best chicken I’ve made, everyone loved it. Totally recommend!

  26. User avatar alonso.bins36 says:

    3 stars
So easy! But I accidentally forgotten the salt and it was so bland lol. Gonna try again. Wish me luck!

  27. 5 stars
This came out so good—sticky, sweet-salty glaze with crispy-ish skin. I basted a couple times extra and it caramelized nicely. 10/10 with roasted veggies.

  28. User avatar heriberto.ferry67 says:

    5 stars
Tried this tonight—so sticky and flavorful. The maple + soy combo is surprisingly perfect. Followed the basting steps and it browned beautifully.

  29. User avatar Dannie Sporer says:

    3 stars
I think 375°F is too low—my skin didn’t get as crisp as I wanted. Maybe my oven runs cold? I’d bump to 400 next time and watch the glaze so it doesn’t burn.

  30. User avatar Tommie Rice says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious. My kids asked for seconds and didn’t complain about dinner for once lol. I used fresh garlic and cracked pepper and it made a difference.

  31. User avatar rozella.stanton75 says:

    5 stars
This was delicious! The maple glaze is sweet, but not too sweet. Will definitely make again!

  32. 3 stars
Meh, just okay. I’ve had better roast chickens. My mom does it best.

  33. User avatar monique.feil says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why people rave about this recipe. The glaze was too sweet and the chicken was dry. Not for me.

    1. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

      4 stars
I actually loved the sweetness! It balanced the savory chicken nicely. Maybe you overcooked it?

  34. User avatar Killer Bees says:

    2 stars
Eh, I followed the recipe but it tasted way too sweet for me. I think I’ll stick with garlic herb chicken.

    1. 4 stars
I totally get it! It is sweet! Maybe you could try reducing the syrup next time? The garlic herb chicken sounds tasty too!

  35. User avatar devin.stiedemann says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about the soy sauce in a “maple” glaze, but it actually balanced it perfectly. Next time I’ll start checking at 55 minutes total because my chicken ran a little fast.

  36. 5 stars
Just wow! 🤤 The flavors went perfectly together. This recipe is a keeper!

  37. 3 stars
I’m skeptical about the soy sauce in this recipe. Maple and soy? Seems weird.

  38. User avatar donovan.koss2017 says:

    4 stars
I love sweet-savory, but mine turned dark way before it was done. Next time I’ll cover loosely with foil halfway. Flavor is great though—garlic and pepper really show up.

    1. User avatar houston.bradtke26 says:

      4 stars
Maybe your oven runs hot? Mine always browns quick with maple. I also think 3-4 lb chicken can vary a lot—40+35 is sometimes not enough. Cover it sooner, and check thighs with a thermometer, not just color 😅

    2. 5 stars
Dark before it’s done sounds like the maple sugars browning too fast. I’d try tenting with foil earlier (like after the first 30 min), and maybe reduce the oven temp to 360°F next time. Glad the garlic/pepper came through though!

  39. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, I thought maple syrup would be too sweet, but it’s actually pretty subtle after roasting. The skin came out nicely lacquered.

    1. User avatar liberal.hero says:

      5 stars
I had the same fear—maple syrup just sounds like it could take over—but this roast-glaze idea makes sense. “Lacquered” is exactly the word. Did you baste right before you cover it or leave it uncovered the whole time?

    2. User avatar terence.tremblay says:

      3 stars
Maple syrup is sweet tho… I think 1/2 cup might still be a lot for a 3–4 lb bird. Maybe try less next time? Also mine never comes out lacquered, my oven runs hot or something. But hey, flavors prob good.

  40. 4 stars
Sweet, savory, and so easy! I mafe this for dinner and it was perfect!

  41. 5 stars
This recipe is amazing! The chicken turned out so juicy and flavorful. My family loved it! 🥰

  42. User avatar bernardo.white77 says:

    2 stars
Um, isn’t roast chicken supposed to be with herbs? Not a syrup? I’m not sure about this one… 🤔

  43. User avatar Draugr Death Overlord says:

    5 stars
I added some cayenne pepper for a kick, it turned out great! Spicy maple chicken!

  44. 4 stars
This is almost too easy! I thought it would be complicated but it was simple and tasty.

  45. User avatar jacinto.nienow says:

    2 stars
Meh. It was alright. Nothing too special about it.

  46. User avatar jeromy.robel94 says:

    5 stars
My recipe book is now just this chicken recipe. Can’t wait to make it again!

  47. User avatar Altha Runolfsson IV says:

    3 stars
The instructions are clear, but “juices run clear” is kinda vague—mine stayed pinkish even though it was probably done. I should’ve used a thermometer.

    1. User avatar reyes.gerhold81 says:

      5 stars
Yeah, “juices run clear” always feels a little sketchy. Pinkish can still be fine depending on timing and how you carved it—thermometer is the way to go. I usually pull it around 165°F in the thickest part (and it keeps cooking while it rests).

  48. User avatar norman.brekke1975 says:

    5 stars
Yummy! Tried it on a BBQ, was so good!

  49. User avatar Mo'a Keet says:

    5 stars
Never thought of maple on chicken, but WOW! So good! I’m definitely making it again.

    1. User avatar wallace.klocko24 says:

      5 stars
I tried this and it was amazing! The maple flavor is just perfect with the chicken. Thanks for sharing!

    2. 2 stars
Really? Maple on chicken? Seems weird, but to each their own. I don’t think I’d try it.

  50. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

    4 stars
I don’t have maple syrup, so I used honey. It worked, just slightly thicker and sweeter. Would recommend making sure to baste carefully.

  51. 4 stars
I was skeptical about using maple syrup on chicken, but wow! It turned out amazing!

  52. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

    5 stars
OMG this is the best chicken ever! I told all my friends to try this recipe.

  53. User avatar arleen.auer says:

    4 stars
I was worried the soy would make it taste salty, but honestly it was balanced. Next time I might add a pinch of chili flakes for some heat. Great instructions though.

  54. 4 stars
I added some rosemary and thyme to the glaze and it turned out pretty good! Nice change from regular roast chicken. Highly recommend!

  55. 2 stars
I don’t understand how people like maple on chicken. This was kinda weird…

  56. User avatar rolf.collier8 says:

    4 stars
Maple syrup n chicken?! Who thought of this? Surprised I liked it.

  57. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

    5 stars
I was skeptical about the maple/soy glaze, but wow. The skin came out nicely browned and not greasy. Followed the timing and it was juicy after the 10-minute rest.

  58. User avatar doug.towne2019 says:

    2 stars
Doesn’t soy sauce have gluten? I can’t eat that, so I didn’t try this recipe.

  59. User avatar Liet-Kynes says:

    2 stars
I had high hopes, but it turned out dry. Maybe I overcooked it?

    1. User avatar eulah.wisozk says:

      4 stars
Sorry to hear that! It can definitely get dried out if it’s overcooked. How long did you cook it for?

  60. 3 stars
Tasted great! Only thing I didn’t like was the garlic smell in the house for a week! Yikes.

    1. User avatar luke.keebler53 says:

      4 stars
I know what you mean! Garlic can really linger. But the flavor is worth it, right?

    2. 3 stars
You could try using less garlic! Or maybe just air out the house better next time?

  61. User avatar laurine.prosacco2011 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! The glaze tastes great, but 40 minutes + 35-40 was a bit long for my 3-lb bird. I started checking at 45 minutes and saved it from drying out.

    1. User avatar matt.stroman85 says:

      4 stars
Hmm 40 min feels short/long depending on oven. I usually go by temp, not the clock—did you check the internal temp? Like 165°F in the thickest part.

    2. User avatar Storm Atronach says:

      5 stars
Thanks for the timing heads-up! I’ve got a 3-lb bird too, so checking at ~45 makes sense. Do you tent with foil or just keep it uncovered?

  62. User avatar mariela.bins91 says:

    4 stars
Maple syrup on chicken? Is this really a thing? I was skeptical, but it works!

  63. User avatar gabriela.wuckert says:

    3 stars
It’s just chicken with syrup, not a big deal. But I guess kids might like it…

  64. User avatar Courtney Jaskolski says:

    5 stars
This is the easiest roast chicken I’ve made that actually looks restaurant-y. Garlic flavor is there without being overpowering.

    1. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

      5 stars
Just made this—totally agree. The garlic comes through but it’s not harsh, and it browns so nicely. I basted a little extra at the end and it stayed juicy. Restaurant vibe for sure!

  65. User avatar leopoldo.hettinger49 says:

    5 stars
Yum! I added some rosemary and it tasted so good. Definitely making again!

  66. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

    3 stars
I used too much soy sauce, it was kinda salty. Whoops!

  67. User avatar iluminada.monahan says:

    4 stars
Very easy to make! I’m not a great cook and I nailed this one!

  68. User avatar maisie.kling38 says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—so good. The maple and soy combo is seriously addictive, and the chicken came out nicely golden. I had to baste a bit more since my oven runs hot, but no complaints.

  69. User avatar cordelia.stokes40 says:

    1 star
    meh

  70. User avatar nicky.rippin85 says:

    5 stars
Not sure why people like maple on chicken… I was skeptical. But wow, it came out sweet-salty and the skin was crispy. I’m keeping this recipe.

  71. 4 stars
So easy to make! I served it to my family, and they couldn’t believe how good it was. Yummy!

  72. User avatar scott.kemmer says:

    3 stars
Can someone confirm the salt amount? It says 1 tsp to taste, but I’m always scared to overdo it. I ended up going light and it was still tasty.

  73. User avatar steve_maga says:

    4 stars
Sounds delish but what kind of soy sauce? I only have regular. Will that work?

  74. User avatar vida.howell says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, the glaze tasted weird at first like syrupy soy (i thought it would be better). It ended up okay but not amazing. Maybe I brushed too much and it burned? Still ate it tho.

    1. User avatar Maisie Lang says:

      4 stars
That sounds like it might have needed a slightly lower finish temp or less brushing—maple + soy can burn fast. Next time, do thinner layers and baste closer to the last 20 minutes.

    2. User avatar rosena.gusikowski46 says:

      3 stars
Wait… 375°F is kinda hot for sugar glazes. I think you’re right—if you brushed too much early it’ll go dark and taste weird. Still though, glad you ate it 😅

  75. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    4 stars
Really simple and tasty! I added some rosemary for extra flavor. Turned out great.

  76. User avatar tereasa.larson3 says:

    5 stars
Made this last night and it turned out amazing—crispy skin with that sweet-salty glaze. I used a little extra garlic and it was still balanced.

  77. User avatar sunni.legros35 says:

    2 stars
Why do you have to baste? Just let it roast, that sounds silly. Chicken gonna be chicken!

  78. 3 stars
I wonder if this will work with tofu instead of chicken? Asking for a friend. 😂

  79. User avatar andres.koelpin says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about using maple syrup with chicken, but this actually worked! It was sweet but not too much.

  80. User avatar lizzette.dubuque83 says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical of “1 teaspoon salt to taste” because salt can vary so much—mine ended up maybe too salty? Still tasty though. Next time I’ll start with half.

  81. User avatar ali.little34 says:

    3 stars
Maple glaze? Sounds like too many things going on. Wouldn’t BBQ sauce work better?

  82. User avatar lissa.rippin says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious! The maple glaze is a game changer. My family loved it!

  83. User avatar Draugr Wight says:

    2 stars
This is one of those recipes that sounds fancy but it’s kinda basic. Also ‘juices run clear’ isn’t super reliable—mine looked clear but was still a bit underdone. Took longer to reach temp.

  84. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

    3 stars
It’s kind of weird to put syrup on chicken, isn’t it? I thought it would be gross but I tried it anyway. Not bad, but still odd.

  85. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

    3 stars
Too sweet for my taste. I think I prefer my chicken savory.

  86. User avatar Twana Legros says:

    5 stars
Best chicken ever!! I didn’t baste it enough and it still came out moist! A+.

    1. User avatar alexander.kuvalis says:

      5 stars
Wow, that sounds amazing! I always thought you had to baste it a lot for it to be juicy. Great tip!

  87. 4 stars
Pretty good, but I think 375°F is a bit low for my oven. Took closer to 1 hour 20 for the juices to run clear. Still tasty though.

  88. User avatar kathy.jaskolski99 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about maple + soy, but it works. Garlic could be a tiny bit more for my taste. Also, I wish the instructions said to tent with foil if it browns too fast, mine got dark at the end.

  89. User avatar casey.kassulke says:

    5 stars
So easy! I made this in like half an hour and it was delicious! Definitely recommend! 👍

  90. User avatar steve.nitzsche64 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—so good. The maple + soy combo is sweet-salty in the best way, and the skin got nicely glossy. I rested it the full 10 minutes and it stayed juicy.

YUM! Can’t believe I never tried this before! Thanks for the recipe!

The garlic smell while roasting was amazing. I’m not sure about the “juices run clear” thing though—mine looked clear but it wasn’t done until I checked the internal temp. Always use a thermometer!

    1. 4 stars
Mine came out kinda weird—juices were clear-ish but the inside was still pink, so yeah, temp check saved it. I used a thermometer after that and it’s way less stressful. Garlic smell though… WOW.

    2. User avatar kortney.zulauf says:

      5 stars
Totally agree on the thermometer. “Juices run clear” is such a vague rule—mine look light sometimes even when it needs more time. I love that the garlic smell is a sign you’re doing something right though!

  93. 3 stars
Not bad, but I found it kinda sweet. My family said it tasted like ham glaze? Maybe I should cut the maple in half next time.

  94. User avatar bennett.huel says:

    5 stars
One word: yum. Also my chicken was not clear juice tho—so I went by internal temp and it came out perfect. Tho shoulda said that in instructions.

  95. User avatar alden.renner1961 says:

    4 stars
This is the exact meal that I always prepare for my BBQ! Can I use honey instead of maple syrup?

  96. User avatar garnet.torp1958 says:

Made this tonight and it came out shiny and super flavorful. The maple/soy combo is surprisingly addictive—crispy skin too. I did tent the breast with foil halfway so it wouldn’t over-brown.

    1. User avatar india.marquardt2025 says:

      3 stars
Hmm sounds good, but 375°F for that long feels like it might dry out my chicken? Also I didn’t know you had to “tent the breast”—do you just cover it with foil after 40 min? Might try anyway.

    2. User avatar stephani.aufderhar64 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I tried this too and the maple + soy combo is SO addictive. The skin gets that perfect crisp shine. I also tented the breast and it worked great.

  97. 3 stars
The glaze is good but 375°F feels low for me? I usually roast higher. Mine got nice color, but the skin wasn’t as crispy as I wanted. Maybe I should’ve patted it drier before glazing.

    1. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      4 stars
375°F doesn’t sound too low to me—roast chicken often needs longer at a lower temp so it cooks through without drying out. Your crispy-skin issue might be more about moisture than the oven temp though. Next time definitely pat it super dry and maybe don’t glaze until later (or use less glaze early so it doesn’t burn).

  98. User avatar odessa.veum says:

    2 stars
I dunno, I followed the recipe to the letter, but mine came out kinda dry. Maybe I overcooked it? Not sure if I’ll try again.

  99. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

    2 stars
This looks too fancy for me, but I tried it. Still not what I expected.

    1. 4 stars
I totally get you! It can look fancy but sometimes it’s just not what you imagined it would taste like. But hey, at least you tried it! 🍗

    2. User avatar coral.king21 says:

      3 stars
Maybe it tastes better if you use more seasoning? Or its just not your style. I like simple food myself.

  100. 1 star
Why is everyone raving about this? It was just chicken with some syrup. I’ve had better from fast food places. Honestly, disappointed.

  101. User avatar deann.barrows2014 says:

    3 stars
I accidentally used regular soy sauce and it was a bit salty, so yeah, low-sodium matters. Otherwise the glaze tasted amazing. Would do again, careful with the salt.

    1. 5 stars
Good catch—low-sodium soy is totally the move. I’ve done the same thing before and it can turn the glaze into “whoa, that’s salty” instead of sweet-maple goodness. Glad it still worked out though!

  102. User avatar jean.kohler63 says:

    4 stars
I’m not usually a maple person for savory meat, but this actually worked. The butter helps it cling nicely. Would definitely make again.

  103. User avatar jacques.robel39 says:

    1 star
I tried this and my chicken was raw inside! Must have not cooked long enough. Be careful!

  104. User avatar Bilbo Baggins says:

    4 stars
I wasn’t sure about the combination of flavors, but this turned out really well! I didn’t have low sodium soy sauce tho.

  105. 4 stars
Flavor is nice, but 375°F felt a bit low for my oven. I had to add almost 15 minutes to get it fully cooked. Just adjust as needed!

  106. User avatar Grìma Wormtongue says:

    5 stars
Just brilliant! Very easy to make and it impressed my family at dinner. Will def make again!

  107. User avatar greg.lind14 says:

    3 stars
You really gotta watch the time. Mine was a bit dry, maybe I left it too long.

  108. 4 stars
Great flavor, but I’m not a fan of basting that much—kinda mess. Also I forgot to rest it 10 minutes and the meat was juicy but not as tender. Lesson learned 😅

    1. 4 stars
Totally get that—basting can get messy. Next time you could try brushing a thicker layer once or using a quick spoon-over at the halfway point instead of repeatedly.

  109. User avatar tamera.miller says:

    5 stars
This chicken is sooo good! The maple syrup gives it a sweet touch that we loved!

    1. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      2 stars
I don’t know, mixing sweet and savory sounds odd to me. How can syrup be good on chicken?

    2. User avatar darcie.hartmann54 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! The sweet flavor makes it so unique. Glad you enjoyed it!

  110. 4 stars
Simple and flavorful, but the timing was a little off for my bird. Mine took closer to 75 minutes total (3.5 lb). Use temp if you can—juices running clear fooled me once.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree on the timing—375°F can be all over depending on the chicken. Glad you trusted the juices though (and yep, they can lie sometimes).

  111. User avatar mario.kiehn86 says:

    4 stars
Yummy! My kids at it all up. Also, maple syrup is like candy for them lol.

  112. 3 stars
I followed it exactly and the flavor was okay, not wow. Maybe I needed more salt? Also, 375°F feels a little low for 3-4 lb—mine took longer.

    1. User avatar sean.rau52 says:

      2 stars
375°F is definitely too low 😅 3-4 lb chicken should be like 425°F. I always do 425 and it comes out way better. Yours might be undercooked still even if the juices looked fine.

    2. User avatar alena.thiel says:

      4 stars
I had the same “okay, not wow” issue the first time. I ended up adding a bit more salt to the glaze (and a pinch under the skin) and it really helped. Also I don’t trust “juices run clear” too much—my bird took closer to 1 hr 20 at 375°F.

  113. 4 stars
Pretty good, but mine turned a little too dark near the end. Next time I’ll loosely tent with foil after basting. Still tasted great though.

    1. User avatar mathWizard says:

      4 stars
Mine did the same thing once—i think my oven runs hotter. Next time im gonna cover sooner after the first basting. What temp you baked at?

    2. User avatar dale.smitham says:

      5 stars
Good call on the foil tent—maple syrup can brown fast. I usually reduce the basting time a bit too. Glad it still tasted great!

  114. User avatar denver.ullrich says:

    4 stars
Tasty! But I think you could use less butter. Felt greasy.

  115. 2 stars
Meh… I brushed it and it was kinda sticky (in a bad way). Also I think I ran out of glaze? Still ate it though 😅

  116. User avatar chelsey.gleason says:

    2 stars
Meh. It was okay, not mind-blowing. The maple made it a little too sweet for my taste, and the soy made it salty. I’ll probably just use a simpler rub next time.

  117. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    2 stars
The timing seems weird? 40 minutes then 35-40 for a 3-4 lb chicken—mine took closer to an hour and a half to be fully cooked. I relied on juices running clear like it says, but I should’ve used a thermometer.

    1. User avatar Dr. Gennie Schumm says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—time ranges are so unreliable with chicken. A thermometer is the only way I trust. I’ve had 3 lb birds cook way faster and others take forever.

    2. User avatar isaiah.kreiger67 says:

      4 stars
Oof yeah, 40 + 35-40 is kinda short. Mine always looks “done” before it’s actually safe, so I go off internal temp now. Usually like 165F in the thickest part. Also juices “running clear” can still fool you, lol.

  118. 3 stars
Mine was good but kinda too sweet. Maybe my maple syrup was strong or I used full salt plus soy, not low sodium. Next time I’ll cut the maple in half or reduce the salt.

  119. 4 stars
The flavor is really nice, but 375°F felt a little long for my 3 lb bird. I checked at 60 minutes and it was already close—still juicy though. I’ll probably start checking earlier next time.

  120. User avatar frances.predovic65 says:

    5 stars
This is the best roast chicken glaze I’ve tried. Zero fuss, and the caramelization is on point. Resting 10 minutes is legit.

  121. User avatar latasha.wintheiser1953 says:

    3 stars
Just okay… Not the best recipe I’ve tried. It just didn’t hit like I wanted it to. But the chicken was still good.

  122. 3 stars
I used low-sodium soy but still added the full salt “to taste” and it ended up kinda salty for me. Next time I’ll start with less salt.

  123. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    4 stars
I followed it exactly except I used regular soy sauce. Still good, but next time I’ll go low-sodium like suggested—salt level crept up for me.

    1. User avatar lucrecia.lemke16 says:

      5 stars
Nice! I’m glad it still worked with regular soy sauce. I bet the low-sodium version would’ve saved you from that “salt level crept up” feeling 😅 Next time try tasting the glaze before you brush—maple + soy can sneak up.

    2. User avatar Tom Bombadil says:

      3 stars
Wait… you added salt *and* soy sauce? That seems like the real issue. Low-sodium or not, I’d skip the extra salt until after you taste the glaze. Mine never needed the full 1 tsp.

  124. User avatar Dr. Angelia Koelpin says:

    4 stars
The glaze smelled amazing while roasting. I did have to tent it with foil for the last 20 minutes because it was browning fast, but the chicken was juicy and not dry at all.

  125. 5 stars
I’m no chef, but I followed this and wow—juicy! The resting step helped a lot. My family kept saying “it smells amazing” while it cooked. 10/10 for us.

  126. User avatar lillia.mckenzie says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—glaze came out glossy and super flavorful. The combo of maple + soy is a cheat code for roast chicken. I did an extra 10 minutes since my bird was bigger, but otherwise spot on.

  127. User avatar Dan Streetmentioner says:

    4 stars
The glaze tasted amazing before roasting, but it got a little too dark near the end. I’d tent with foil sooner.

  128. User avatar margareta.rogahn2 says:

    4 stars
This is my new weeknight chicken. I added a little extra garlic and it smelled amazing while roasting. Resting 10 minutes is key—juicier meat for sure.

  129. User avatar carroll.buckridge says:

    4 stars
The glaze tasted good, but my chicken was a little too dark near the end. Next time I’ll tent with foil after the color looks right.

    1. User avatar micah.mosciski6 says:

      4 stars
Mine got dark too, but I think it was bc I used dark maple syrup or left it uncovered too long. Next time I’ll baste earlier and maybe lower the oven a bit. Thanks for the tip!

    2. User avatar sammie.schumm9 says:

      5 stars
Good call on tenting with foil. I’ve noticed maple/soy glazes can brown fast at the end—foil usually saves the color. Did you check temp (165°F in the thickest part)?

  130. User avatar Bilbo Baggins says:

    3 stars
Mine was a bit salty even though I used low-sodium soy. I think my salt estimate was off—1 teaspoon might be too much for some. Flavor otherwise was on point, just needs careful seasoning.

  131. User avatar maxwell.smith says:

    3 stars
Not bad, not wow. The maple flavor was mild and I wanted more sweetness. I’ll probably bump the maple syrup next time or add a little mustard/ginger for a kick.

  132. User avatar darren.roob says:

    3 stars
The flavor is great, but my glaze thickened too much and started to burn on the edges near the end. I think I should have basted a little earlier or lowered the temp slightly.

    1. User avatar kate.waelchi91 says:

      4 stars
This happened to me once—turns out my oven runs hot. I’m guilty of cranking the heat “for faster roasting.” 😅 Maybe try 350°F and just watch the color. Also, did you brush all over, or mostly on the skin? Thick glaze can burn quick.

    2. User avatar yvette.weissnat54 says:

      5 stars
Ahh that makes sense—maple + soy + butter will caramelize fast. Next time I’d baste a bit earlier and maybe tent the top with foil the last 20 minutes. Lowering the oven slightly could help too. Glad the flavor was still good!

  133. User avatar tasia.hamill58 says:

    5 stars
    So easy. Tastes like restaurant.

  134. 5 stars
Wow. Simple but tastes like I did more than I did. Family asked for seconds. Thank you!

  135. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    5 stars
This is comfort food but kinda fancy lol. I added a squeeze of lemon when glazing and it made the garlic pop. Would absolutely cook again!

  136. 5 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about maple + soy on chicken, but wow. It tastes kinda like a fancy takeout glaze. Would absolutely make again for guests.

  137. User avatar chase.ebert says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—so sticky and glossy. The maple + garlic combo is legit, and the soy keeps it from tasting too sweet. I roasted a touch longer since my bird was closer to 4.5 lbs, but otherwise perfect.

  138. 4 stars
Really solid flavor, but my chicken took closer to an hour than 40+35. I think my bird was bigger than 4 pounds. Still, the glaze is great—will definitely repeat.

  139. User avatar kristle.kassulke2007 says:

    2 stars
This tastes weirdly sweet for roast chicken. Like dessert vibes. Maybe I used too much maple syrup? I’m not convinced it’s worth the effort compared to a classic herb roast.

  140. User avatar georgiana.reichel says:

    5 stars
This is my new go-to roast chicken. Super easy ingredients, and the garlic isn’t overpowering. Resting 10 minutes helped a lot—juices stayed in the meat.
