Ham and Pear Panini

February 26, 2026

A Ham and Pear Panini is a deliciously balanced sandwich that combines savory, sweet, and slightly tangy flavors in every bite. Thinly sliced ham provides a salty, rich base, while fresh pear adds natural sweetness and juiciness, creating a contrast that is both refreshing and satisfying. Melted cheese, such as Swiss, Gruyère, or Havarti, ties the flavors together with creamy, gooey goodness, and a touch of mustard or honey can add a subtle zing or extra sweetness.

The panini is pressed to perfection, crisping the bread and warming the filling so that the cheese melts evenly and the flavors meld together. The result is a golden, crunchy exterior with a soft, flavorful interior, making it ideal for a hearty lunch, a light dinner, or even an elegant snack.

Adding ingredients like arugula or baby spinach introduces a fresh, slightly peppery note that complements the sweet pear and savory ham, while a sprinkle of nuts, such as toasted walnuts, can add a satisfying crunch. The choice of bread, ciabatta, sourdough, or a rustic whole grain, affects the texture and chewiness, giving the sandwich additional character and depth.

Ham and Pear Panini is versatile and quick to prepare, making it perfect for busy weekdays or leisurely weekends alike. It pairs beautifully with simple sides like a crisp salad, roasted vegetables, or a cup of tomato soup, creating a complete and balanced meal.

This panini proves that combining simple, high-quality ingredients can produce a sophisticated and flavorful result. The harmony of savory ham, sweet pear, creamy melted cheese, and crisp, toasted bread makes it a memorable sandwich that is both comforting and elegant. Every bite delivers a satisfying mix of textures and flavors, making the Ham and Pear Panini a favorite for any time you want a delicious, gourmet-style sandwich without the fuss.

I made this for my kids, and they didn’t like it… kids are picky 🤷‍♂️

  3. 2 stars
Too fruity for my taste lol. Don’t think I’m gonna make this again. Not for everyone.

  4. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

    5 stars
So good! We used leftover ham from dinner and even added some mustard. Yum!

  5. 3 stars
Easy to make, but my sandwich got soggy. Maybe I need to press it longer?

  6. User avatar kenny.russel96 says:

5 stars from me! Super tasty and different! Will definitely add this to my lunch recipes.

  7. User avatar anglea.lesch44 says:

I made this and my kids actually ate it without complaining! Major success in my book. Thx for sharing! 😁

  8. 4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but wow! This is actually really good. Who knew pears would work?

  9. 3 stars
Can I use any cheese? I don’t have brie, just cheddar. Thoughts?

    1. 4 stars
Cheddar will work fine! It might change the flavor a bit, but it could still taste great.

  10. User avatar Curt N. Rodd says:

    3 stars
Meh. It was ok. Didn’t blow my mind or anything. Just a sandwich.

  11. User avatar woodrow.spinka says:

    5 stars
Super tasty! I added a tiny bit of black pepper and it bumped the flavor a lot. Would absolutely make again.

  12. 4 stars
Easy to make and super tasty! I used honey ham and it was a game changer.

    1. User avatar Zarniwoop says:

      5 stars
This sounds amazing! I never thought of using pears in a panini, I gotta try that!

    2. User avatar scott.goodwin says:

      2 stars
Honey ham? Really? Isn’t that too sweet for a savory sandwich? I prefer my ham plain.

  13. User avatar mertie.wisozk6 says:

    2 stars
Not a fan of pears in sandwiches. The fruit flavor clashes with the ham for me, but I can see why others would like it.

    1. User avatar rosalba.bauch82 says:

      4 stars
Totally get that—pears can be kinda sweet and out of place with salty ham. I’ve found using brie helps because it’s creamier, but if you really don’t like the fruit flavor, I’d swap the pear for something savory like roasted onions or maybe apple slices with less sweetness.

  14. 5 stars
Amazing! This is def my new favorite sandwich. Gonna make for my friends!

  15. User avatar luke.kuvalis says:

    5 stars
Delish! Can you add some spinach too? Would be even healthier!

    1. User avatar lyman.pfannerstill40 says:

      2 stars
Spinach? Really? I dunno, I think that would ruin the sweet flavor of the pear. Just stick to the original recipe!

    2. User avatar Falmer Shaman says:

      5 stars
Great idea! Spinach would definitely make it healthier and add some nice color. 🍃

  16. User avatar Carl Auer says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly but my cheese didn’t fully melt—could be the type I used (some low-fat “cheese food”). Still, it tasted good.

    1. User avatar Bowerick Wowbagger says:

      4 stars
That sounds like the cheese culprit. Low-fat “cheese food” usually won’t melt as smoothly as brie or Swiss—more like it softens instead of fully melting. Next time, try a real melting-friendly slice or grate it thinner.

    2. User avatar elmo.ebert says:

      3 stars
I dunno… I’ve made similar paninis and mine usually melted fine even with cheaper cheese. Did you preheat long enough? Also 3-5 minutes might be short if your pan wasn’t hot. Maybe turn the heat up a bit?

  17. User avatar Marcus Absent says:

    5 stars
PERFECT lunch idea! I added some spinach for a crunch. Yum! Comfort food at its best.

  18. User avatar selina.gibson51 says:

Yum, made it for brunch and everyone loved it! Definitely adding it to my favorite list.

  19. User avatar Mr. Satan says:

How is this supposed to be good? Fruit in a sandwich? I don’t get it.

    1. 2 stars
Fruit on a sandwich? Sounds weird to me. I guess some people like it but I’d rather stick to just meat and cheese.

    2. User avatar jacqulyn.mcglynn75 says:

      5 stars
It’s actually really good! The sweetness of the pear balances the salty ham. You should try it!

  20. 5 stars
This sandwich is delicious! The sweet pear and ham combo is unexpected but amazing. Will make again!

  21. User avatar Galaxia Woonbeam says:

    3 stars
tasty but it’s a little too rich for my taste, maybe cut down on the cheese next time.

    1. 4 stars
I get that! Cheese can be a bit much sometimes. Maybe try a milder one next time?

    2. User avatar lupita.witting79 says:

      5 stars
Rich? I thought it was just perfect! But maybe I’m just a cheese lover haha.

  22. User avatar joe_banana says:

    2 stars
Meh. Pretty good but not mind-blowing. I would’ve liked more seasoning (pepper/greens) or maybe a tiny drizzle of honey.

    1. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

      4 stars
I feel you—mine came out tasty but kind of bland. Next time I’m adding cracked black pepper and maybe a little chopped arugula/thyme. Honey drizzle sounds dangerous (in a good way).

    2. User avatar carolin.quigley89 says:

      2 stars
Nah I think it’s supposed to be mild since the brie/swiss already has flavor. If you add honey or greens it’ll turn into a totally different sandwich tho 🤷‍♂️

  23. User avatar chin.nitzsche says:

    4 stars
Wow, I never thought of putting pear in a sandwich! I used gouda instead of brie, still turned out great!

  24. 2 stars
I don’t get why people mix fruits with meats. This is just wrong. Stick to classic sandwiches, please.

    1. User avatar herta.keebler16 says:

      4 stars
I used to think the same, but ham and pear actually taste great together! Give it a try, you might change your mind.

  25. 5 stars
Tried this and it came out really tasty—sweet pear + salty ham is such a good combo. I used Swiss and it melted beautifully. Great quick lunch.

  26. 5 stars
Yummy! 😋 I improvised a bit and added some honey mustard. Sooo good!

    1. User avatar janice.oberbrunner28 says:

      5 stars
That sounds delicious! I never thought of adding honey mustard. I’ll try that next time! 😍

  27. User avatar yi.rosenbaum47 says:

    4 stars
Cook time feels a bit short but maybe my pan runs hot. Mine took closer to 6-7 minutes to really brown and melt the cheese.

    1. User avatar gabriela.conn says:

      5 stars
Yeah I think 3–5 minutes can be totally off depending on the pan. Mine ran a bit fast too until I lowered the heat—took closer to 6 minutes for that proper melt and browning.

  28. 4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but the combo of sweet and salty is legit. My kids loved it!

  29. User avatar Reg Nullify says:

    4 stars
Panini press instructions were fine, but 3 minutes for me was not enough. I ended up doing like 7 and it got nice and crisp.

    1. User avatar zack.champlin54 says:

      5 stars
Glad you got it crisp! 3 minutes definitely varies a lot with how hot your press is and how thick the bread/cheese are—7 makes sense. Next time I’d just go by golden color + fully melted cheese like the recipe says.

  30. User avatar Shop Keeper says:

    5 stars
Wow, this panini is the best thing ever. I added some arugula and it was so delish. Gonna make it again for the fam!

  31. User avatar tonia.corwin2019 says:

    3 stars
really easy & quick, but I couldn’t taste the pear 😕 next time will add more!

    1. 4 stars
I had the same problem! Maybe the pears weren’t ripe enough? I added some pear jam and it was amazing! 🍐

    2. User avatar giuseppe.stehr1966 says:

      3 stars
Honestly, I think the recipe’s fine. Ham is the strong flavor and must overshadow the pear. Just how it is, you know? 😬

  32. User avatar sheree.prosacco2014 says:

    1 star
Ham and pear? That sounds weird… Like, Who thought of that?! Not for me.

  33. User avatar Maren Sanford says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I don’t think pears belong in sandwiches. Just my opinion.

    1. User avatar butterfly says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! The sweetness of pears complements the saltiness of the ham perfectly. It’s a great combo!

    2. User avatar bruce.morissette86 says:

      2 stars
I guess, but isn’t using fruit in sandwiches kinda weird? I mean, it’s a sandwich, not a dessert!

  34. User avatar anja.rolfson1973 says:

    2 stars
I tried this recipe, but it was really bland. I think it needs something else. Maybe add some spices? 2/5.

    1. User avatar rebecca.cummerata20 says:

      4 stars
I totally agree! A pinch of salt or some pepper could make a big difference. Maybe even a sprinkle of garlic powder?

    2. 2 stars
Nah, I think it’s pretty good as it is. Sometimes simple is better, ya know?

  35. User avatar mathWizard says:

    5 stars
This panini was delish! The sweet pear and salty ham combo is perfect. I used gouda instead of brie, still awesome!

    1. User avatar claud.nikolaus2020 says:

      5 stars
Sounds amazing! I love gouda, might try that next time.

    2. User avatar kyra.greenholt61 says:

      2 stars
Not sure about sweet pear in a sandwich. Seems weird to me.

  36. User avatar classie.farrell1951 says:

    3 stars
meh, it was ok. I think it needs more seasoning or something. The pear was kinda weird for me.

  37. 4 stars
Really liked how quick it was. I used Swiss and it melted perfectly. Next time I’ll slice the pear a touch thinner so it warms more evenly.

  38. User avatar Dremora Lord says:

    5 stars
I thought it would taste funny but WOW, this is so good! Might try it with apples next time!

  39. User avatar mathWizard says:

    2 stars
TOO MUCH CHEESE. Made it and ended up with a gooey mess. My wife loved it tho. Worth a try tho.

  40. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    1 star
I think I’m allergic to pears… wouldn’t recommend if you are too.

  41. 2 stars
Ham should not be mixed with fruit, it’s just wrong! But my husband liked it, so who knows…

  42. 4 stars
I’m not sure about putting fruit in a hot sandwich, but the aroma alone convinced me. The pear got a little caramel-y and was actually really nice.

    1. User avatar angel.kris88 says:

      3 stars
I’m still skeptical… hot fruit always sounds weird to me. But if the pear turns caramel-y without getting mushy, maybe I’ll try it. Any tips to keep it from turning watery?

    2. 5 stars
Honestly, I’m with you—fruit can be surprisingly good when it caramelizes a bit. The pear + melty cheese combo is the whole point. I bet brie makes it extra creamy!

  43. User avatar bobbie.schinner2023 says:

    4 stars
Yum! Just used what I had at home, like some plain old white bread, and it turned out fine!

    1. User avatar sal.wisoky says:

      3 stars
But white bread? Isn’t that kinda bland? I think ciabatta or something would taste way better.

    2. 5 stars
That’s awesome! Sometimes using what you have leads to the best meals. Glad it turned out well!

  44. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    3 stars
3-5 minutes felt way too short for me. Bread was golden but cheese was barely melty, so I ended up adding like 2 more minutes.

  45. User avatar bernard.rau says:

    5 stars
5 stars! What a combo! I added some spicy mustard and it was magical. 😍

    1. User avatar tandra.simonis says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I never thought to add mustard. I’ll have to try it like that. 😋

  46. User avatar Frankie and Benjy says:

    2 stars
Bread with meat and fruit? Sounds odd. Not for me.

  47. User avatar wellRespected says:

    1 star
Is this even a real recipe?? Who puts fruit in a sandwich? That’s just wrong in my book.

  48. User avatar willian.swaniawski says:

    1 star
Tried it, and my dog ate my leftovers! 😅 Not a hit in my house.

  49. 3 stars
Hmm, not sure about ham and pear… Sounds weird, but I guess it could be good? My kids won’t eat it.

  50. User avatar nelly.dare says:

    4 stars
Tried this for lunch, didn’t have brie, used cheddar instead and it still worked! But can I use an apple?

  51. 4 stars
Simple and tasty. The only thing I’d tweak is cook it closer to 5 minutes on my skillet; “medium” was a bit vague and mine needed longer.

    1. User avatar isabel.moore says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—“medium” is so vague. I’ve found these usually take nearer 5 minutes on my skillet too, especially if the bread is thick. Still tastes great!

  52. User avatar andreas.doyle85 says:

    1 star
Not everyone likes fruit in their food. I mean, ham and fruit? Nah, I’ll pass. But to each their own.

  53. 1 star
1 word: Disgusting 😅 The pear in the sandwich just ain’t it for me.

  54. User avatar meggan.pouros21 says:

    5 stars
This is soooo good! Didn’t expect the pear to taste so nice with the ham. Definitely making again!

  55. User avatar Ice Wraith says:

    2 stars
My cheese never melted all the way and the bread burned a little… I probably had the heat too high. Still edible though.

  56. User avatar sheldon.baumbach91 says:

    5 stars
Tried this for lunch and it was shockingly good—sweet pear + salty ham is such a nice combo. I used Swiss and it melted perfectly in about 4 minutes.

  57. User avatar Flame Atronach says:

    3 stars
Its easy to make but I think the sandwich could be better with some mustard. Just saying! 🤷‍♂️

  58. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

    3 stars
Ok but where’s the seasoning? I threw in some mustard and it fixed everything. Without it, it’s kinda bland for me.

    1. User avatar sebrina.mertz90 says:

      5 stars
I get what you mean—this recipe keeps it pretty simple, so the ham/cheese + sweet pear do a lot of the flavor. I’d still add a little pepper or a pinch of salt, maybe even mustard or a honey-mustard drizzle like you did. Nice fix!

    2. User avatar samantha.schinner says:

      4 stars
Mustard?? That sounds right but I think the instructions should actually say that. Without it, I agree it’s bland—like, I’m eating ham and bread with fruit, not a real panini. Next time I’ll add seasoning for sure (and maybe garlic powder).

  59. User avatar hyman.glover45 says:

    4 stars
I made it with ciabatta and it got super golden—love that texture. The only issue: my cheese took longer than 5 minutes to fully melt.

  60. User avatar wilmer.wintheiser76 says:

    4 stars
Ham and pear is such a cool combo! I used gouda instead of brie, and it was still yummy! Who knew?!

    1. User avatar magali.carroll76 says:

      2 stars
I dunno man, ham with pear? Sounds weird to me. But if you liked it, that’s what counts. I’m sticking to my plain grilled cheese.

    2. User avatar huey.johns41 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! Ham and pear is like a flavor explosion! Gouda sounds good too, I’ll have to try that next time.

Never thought ham and pear would taste good together. It was surprisingly delicious! 4 stars!

    1. User avatar christinia.swaniawski7 says:

    1. User avatar Anne Teak says:

This sounds delicious! I’m definitely going to try it for my kids too. They love sandwiches! 😋

    2. User avatar george.goyette25 says:

      2 stars
But ham and pear? That’s a weird combo… Sounds kinda gross to me. 🤔

  63. User avatar linnie.mcglynn41 says:

    5 stars
So easy to make, my new fave quick lunch! I used cheddar instead, still amazing.

  64. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

    3 stars
I didn’t have ciabatta, so I used regular white bread and it got golden but didn’t taste as fancy. Still, the flavor combo stands.

    1. User avatar erika.maggio1 says:

      5 stars
Honestly, “fancy” bread is nice, but paninis are forgiving. White bread still gets the job done—golden + melted cheese is the main win. Next time maybe toast it a touch longer for more crisp.

    2. User avatar lyndsay.pfannerstill says:

      3 stars
I tried this once with whatever bread I had and it was kinda bland too 😅 Pear + ham is good, but if the bread is sweet or too soft it won’t crisp right. Golden is good though—maybe use sourdough next time.

  65. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid idea, but my press took longer than 5 minutes. Maybe my heat was low? Still delicious though—would make again.

    1. User avatar randi.zemlak says:

      5 stars
Yeah 3–5 min is a bit optimistic depending on the press. Medium heat can still take longer if the plates aren’t super hot. Next time try hotter (still watching the bread). Glad you liked it!

    2. User avatar basementDweller says:

      4 stars
I think 5 minutes is only for, like, super thin bread? Mine took way longer too. Maybe you used sourdough (gets darker faster) or your press runs cool. But hey—delicious is all that matters 😄

  66. User avatar Alia Atreides says:

    5 stars
This was surprisingly good! The sweetness of the pear complements the salty ham perfectly. Definitely a winner! 😍

    1. User avatar tomoko.upton says:

      5 stars
Oh wow, I never thought of putting pear and ham together! I need to try this! 😋

  67. User avatar Tartarus says:

This is a flavor explosion! Who knew ham and pear would go so well together?

    1. User avatar marcelino.schaden86 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree! The combo is so unexpected but works beautifully. I really loved this recipe!

  68. User avatar chang.wiegand1967 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but the butter on the outside makes it a little greasy if you’re not careful. I would use a lighter spread next time.

    1. User avatar ben.hane1957 says:

      4 stars
Good point—when I use butter I usually go a lot lighter than the recipe says. Maybe I’ll try a thinner spread (or even swap to a mist of oil) so it doesn’t get greasy on the outside.

  69. User avatar Racquel Klocko says:

    2 stars
Recipe looks simple, but I don’t have a press. Can I just use a frying pan? 🤔

  70. User avatar Aragorn says:

    2 stars
Ehh, I feel like the pear is overpowering. Tastes more like a fruit sandwich than a panini, so I probably used too much pear.

  71. User avatar otis.abbott73 says:

    3 stars
Uh, do u have to use brie? I only have cheddar. Will it ruin the whole thing? 🤔

  72. User avatar joy.prosacco says:

    4 stars
The instructions are clear and the timing worked for my skillet. I think next time I’ll add a tiny pinch of pepper or a dash of honey because it felt a little mild.

    1. User avatar wellRespected says:

      5 stars
Glad it worked for you! I totally get the “mild” feeling—pepper would wake it up nicely with the ham and brie. A tiny dash of honey also sounds great if you want more sweet-salty balance.

  73. 4 stars
I don’t have a panini press, so I just used a skillet and a weight on top. Worked pretty good, though it wasn’t as crispy as I hoped.

  74. User avatar bo.kshlerin says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly, but my cheese didn’t fully melt. Maybe my heat was too low? Still tasty, just more like a melty-ish situation.

  75. 5 stars
So good! I can’t believe I never thought to put pear in a sandwich before. 🍐❤️

  77. 5 stars
This panini is AMAZING! The sweet pear and salty ham combo is just perfect. 5 stars!

Mine didn’t melt evenly. I think my cheese slices were too thick. Also I wish it said to press it harder—my press was just… meh.

I don’t know, pears in a sandwich? Seems weird to me. But I tried it, and it’s… okay, I guess. Not my fave.

Sounds weird. Pear on a sandwich? I mean, it’s probably fine, but I’d rather just do ham and cheese like a normal person.

The buttered side out thing confused me at first, but it worked! Crisp edges were the best part. Quick recipe, no drama.

Totally get the “buttered side out” confusion—I’ve done the wrong way once and it was soggy 😅 Glad it worked for you though! Those crisp edges are the whole point.

This is pretty good, but 2 ounces ham feels stingy… I like my sandwiches more packed. Also my pear turned kind of brown—next time I’ll slice closer to cooking.

Brie is the move here. I used Swiss once and it was fine, but brie got all creamy and kinda fancy. Would make again for sure!

I followed it exactly and it was fine, but kinda boring? Like it needed a touch of mustard or pepper or something to wake it up.

Not sure about the fruit in a sandwich… I get that it’s trendy, but I found the pear flavor a bit overpowering. Maybe less pear would help.

Totally get you—fruit in a panini can be hit or miss. If the pear’s too strong, try using fewer slices or cutting them thinner so it blends with the brie/SWISS instead of taking over.

This sounds like a sweet/savory combo done right. The pear + brie pairing is genius—definitely trying it for lunch this week!

This combo is weirdly perfect—sweet pear with salty ham and melty brie. I added a tiny pinch of black pepper and it was so good.

I’m not sure about fruit in a sandwich… but okay, sweet + salty does make sense. Do you think Swiss would work as well as brie? (also I usually forget the pinch of pepper lol)

Totally agree—pear + ham is such an underrated combo. I’m gonna try it with brie next time. The pepper idea sounds great too!

Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about pears in a panini, but the brie made it super creamy. 3 minutes might be a little short though—mine needed closer to 5.
