There’s nothing quite like the taste of a pizza made with fresh, homegrown tomatoes and Home Grown Tomato Pizza. The natural sweetness and juiciness of the tomatoes make this pizza a true celebration of summer. Whether you’re using tomatoes straight from your garden or a local farmer’s market, this pizza brings all the fresh flavors together in a satisfying, easy-to-make meal.
Start with a simple pizza dough, either store-bought or homemade, and spread it out onto a baking sheet or pizza stone. Drizzle a little olive oil over the dough, then layer on a generous amount of fresh mozzarella cheese. The cheese will melt beautifully as it bakes, becoming gooey and golden.
For the tomatoes, slice them thinly, season with salt, pepper, and a little drizzle of olive oil, and arrange them evenly on top of the cheese. The fresh tomatoes will roast slightly in the oven, releasing their juices and intensifying in flavor. You can also add a sprinkle of dried oregano or fresh basil leaves for that classic Italian touch.
Bake the Home Grown Tomato Pizza in a hot oven, usually around 475°F (245°C), until the crust is golden and crispy and the cheese is bubbling. The result is a simple yet incredibly flavorful pizza that showcases the freshness of the tomatoes, complemented by the creamy mozzarella and crispy crust.
This pizza is perfect for a casual dinner, a weekend lunch, or as an appetizer for a gathering. You can add extra toppings like garlic, olives, or even a drizzle of balsamic glaze for a little extra flavor. Whether you’re enjoying it with a glass of wine or simply as a light meal, homegrown tomato pizza is a dish that celebrates the beauty of fresh ingredients.

LOL just threw some leftovers on top instead of fresh stuff. Still worked!
Best pizza! Home-grown tomatoes made it extra special.
I can’t wait to try this! Home-grown tomatoes make everything better! 🍅
Sounds good, but is it really that special? What if the tomatoes aren’t ripe? 🤔
Quick and easy! Perfect for a weeknight dinner. My kids loved it!
Had to use regular sugar instead of Splenda. Still delicious! 😍
Regular sugar works just fine! Glad it turned out delicious for you! 🍕❤️
Quick and easy! But I think kneading the dough would have helped. It felt kinda flat.
I totally agree! Kneading can really help with the texture. Next time, try it out! 😊
Delicious! What toppings can I add to this? I have turkey pepperoni in my fridge.
Idk, isn’t turkey pepperoni kinda weird? I thought real pepperoni is better.
Turkey pepperoni would be great! You could also add some mushrooms or olives for extra flavor.
I think you should’ve added more toppings. Like, where’s the pepperoni?! 😱
Yum! Just made this for my family and they gobbled it all up! 🥳
Love the idea of using home-grown tomatoes! The 425°F temp seems spot on. I’ll probably add garlic to the sauce though—can’t help myself 😅
I dunno, I think it’s too much olive oil. Made it too greasy for my taste. 🤷♂️
Meh, I think I’ll stick to takeout. Too much work for me.
Takeout is easy, but making your own pizza can be fun! You might enjoy it once you try. 😊
Simpel and tasty! I added pepperoni too! Yum!
Pepperoni sounds like a great addition! I love how versatile pizza can be. Yum indeed!
It’s ok, but the Splenda made it taste weird…
More like a salad on a cracker! Where’s the meat? 😂
Yumm!! Best pizza ever! Will try with more veggies next time! 🍅
Keep it simple! No need for all those veggies!
Wow, this is the first time I made pizza from scratch and it actually worked! Thanks Daisy! 🌟
I was skeptical about using Splenda. Can’t this just be made without sugar? Anyone else think it’s weird?
This is the best pizza I’ve ever made! The dough was so fluffy!
Does it really need 2 packages of yeast? Seems like too much! Also, what’s Splenda?
Yeah, I was thinking the same! Two packages seems like a lot. I’ve only ever used one. What’s Splenda anyway? Is it a brand or a type of sweetener?
No way! You need that much yeast for it to rise properly. Splenda is just a sugar substitute, it helps with sweetness without the calories. Just go with it!
Followed this step by step and it came out gooey and not crispy at all 🙁
I dunno about the Splenda. Why not just use real sugar? Seems weird to me.
Real sugar just tastes better, duh! Splenda is for diets, not for pizza!
I think Splenda is fine if you want to cut down on sugar, but for pizza? Just sounds off to me. Why fix what’s not broken?
Yum! Can’t believe I made this myself. Gonna be my go-to recipe now! 🎉
That’s awesome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. 😊 What toppings did you use?
Kinda skeptical, does it really taste that good? I mean, it’s just dough and tomatoes right?
This pizza is to die for! I love using tomatoes from my garden. 5 stars!
Not sure about the sweetener in pizza? Seems weird. Just use natural ingredients, right?
I don’t know how you made this with wheat flour… I’m using normal flour next time.
Didn’t rise, didn’t work. What did I do wrong??
I dont think adding sugar is a good idea for pizza dough. It should be savory!
Why use Splenda? Just use sugar! It’s not that much anyway. Don’t get why people are using fake sugars.
My family loves this recipe! Easy ingredients and super yummy.
I totally agree! This pizza is super simple to whip up and tastes amazing! My kids loved it too.
I didn’t think Splenda would work in pizza dough, but it actually made it tastier! Who knew?
I used whole wheat flour and added some garlic. Tasted amazing!!
That sounds delicious! I never thought of adding garlic to pizza dough. I might try it myself next time.
Fantastic! I added mushrooms, and it turned out amazing. Highly recommend this!
I will definitely try it again but with regular sugar. Splenda ain’t my thing.
I totally get you! Regular sugar is way better for pizza. Splenda can taste weird sometimes.
Why use sugar at all? Aren’t tomatoes sweet enough for pizza? Just sayin’.
This pizza turned out amazing! The home-grown tomatoes make all the difference. 5 stars!
I totally agree! Home-grown tomatoes are the best! Makes everything taste fresher. 🍅
Yumi! I added some pepperoni and jalapeños, just perfect!
I don’t know, I think jalapeños make it too spicy. But, each to their own, I guess.
Sounds amazing! Pepperoni and jalapeños are such a great combo. Gonna try it myself.
The crust was a little too thick for my liking. I like my pizza thin and crispy.
Thick crust is fine too, I mean, it’s pizza! Just add more toppings and you won’t even notice the crust. 😄
I totally get what you mean! Thin and crispy is the way to go for pizza. Maybe try rolling the dough thinner next time?
Good pizza!
Just made this, and it’s okay. Not bad but nothing special. Kinda bland.
I get what you’re saying. Sometimes homemade pizzas can be hit or miss. What toppings did you use?
5 stars! Can’t believe I made pizza from scratch! Never thought I could do that.
This pizza was fantastic! The tomatoes added a fresh flavor that store-bought can’t match. Will make again!
I completely agree! Fresh tomatoes make such a difference. Can’t wait to try this recipe myself!
Not sure why the dough didn’t rise well. Maybe my yeast was old? 3 stars for the flavor, but I need to troubleshoot the dough.
Honestly, Splenda?! Real sugar is way better. Will try without it next time.
Real sugar does taste better for sure! But this recipe is for a healthier option. Can’t wait to see how it turns out without the Splenda!
Why does it matter? Sugar is sugar, and who really uses Splenda anyway? Just get the good stuff, man. 😒
Yummy! I only had cheddar cheese, but it still worked! Gonna try with mozzarella next time.
I love that you made it work with cheddar! Mozzarella is a classic, but sometimes you gotta improvise! Can’t wait to hear how the next one turns out! 🍕
Just made this for my kids, and they loved it! Easy recipe and super fun to make together.
Tomato pizza? Boring! You can’t beat a pepperoni pizza, just saying.
Pepperoni is good but you gotta try this! Fresh veggies make it amazing!
I followed it pretty closely, but using 2 packages of yeast with only 2 cups flour felt like a lot. Dough doubled fast but then got a little yeasty tasting. Still tasty!
That yeasty taste can happen when the dough sits a bit too long or the yeast is extra active. Still—glad it was tasty!
I tried making this, but the dough didn’t rise! What did I do wrong?
Did you use fresh yeast? Old yeast can be a problem. Also, are you sure your water was at room temp? Too hot or too cold messes it up!
Maybe you didn’t let it sit long enough? The dough needs time to rise, like, 1 hour. Try again!
Not to be rude, but “traditional pizza sauce” isn’t an ingredient list—like what kind/amount? Also “2 packages yeast” depends on what brand size. Still, the concept sounds good.
I get what you mean—“traditional pizza sauce” is super vague. Like jar size? Homemade? Amount? I added about 1/2 cup and it was fine, but definitely would’ve helped if the recipe said.
Not gonna lie, I’m with you on the yeast thing. “2 packages” depends if it’s 7g packets or bigger ones. I used Fleischmann 2 x 7g and my dough rose fast, but my friend used different brand and had to wait longer.
I don’t like the idea of whole wheat flour for pizza. Should have used white flour for better crust!
My dough didn’t rise. What went wrong? I followed all the steps. So frustrating!
I don’t get why people put sugar in pizza dough. Isn’t it supposed to be savory?
I totally agree! Sugar and pizza dough just don’t make sense. It’s all about the savory flavors!
But sugar can help with browning and texture! I don’t mind a little sweetness in my dough, actually.
This was OK. I mean, pizza is pizza right? But not as good as the one at Joe’s down the street.
Yum! I threw it all together and it turned out super tasty! Will definitely make again. 🍕
Why would you put Splenda in pizza dough!? Are you trying to ruin pizza? That’s not how it works!
I followed the recipe, but mine came out flat. What did I do wrong? 😩
Did anyone else find the crust too thick? I like it thinner!
Maybe next time I’ll use white flour instead? Wheat is too healthy for pizza, lol.
I think white flour makes a way better pizza! Wheat can be too dense sometimes. Just my opinion! 🍕
425°F for only 15-20 minutes seems short for a dough with wheat flour + that much yeast. Mine came out a bit pale and the crust was kinda chewy. Tasty though, just not as crisp as I wanted.
Interesting—mine always comes out crispy at 425F, but I use way less yeast (like 1 packet). Are you sure 2 packages is correct? That might make it more bready/chewy instead of crisp.
Yeah 15–20 min can be a bit short if the dough is thicker or the oven runs cool. I usually let it go until the edges are really golden (and sometimes an extra 5–8 min). Also, preheating the pan helps a lot for crispness.
Never made dough before, was easy! Thanks for the clear instructions! 4 stars!
Quick and easy! Just didn’t have fresh tomatoes, so I used canned ones.
Lol I accidentally put too many peppers and my pizza slid off the pan when I tried to slice it. Still delicious though. Next time I’m making less of the good stuff.
I’ve totally done the “too many peppers” thing too… the pizza just becomes a veggie slip-n-slide. But yeah—if it’s delicious, you’re winning 😂
Haha that sounds like the most delicious kind of chaos 😄 Glad it still tasted good! Next time maybe let the toppings cool/dry a bit so it doesn’t slide off the pan.
I don’t know about the Splenda. I think sugar is better for pizza. Didn’t turn out great for me. 2/5.
I understand where you’re coming from! Splenda can be hit or miss. Sugar does add a different flavor. Maybe try honey next time? It might turn out better! 😊
I think my oven doesn’t work right, dough didn’t rise at all… too sad. 1 star.
This pizza is amazing! The dough was so easy to make and it tastes incredible with fresh tomatoes. 5 stars!
I totally agree! This pizza is the best! I’ve never made dough before, but this was so simple and tasty. ❤️
Perfection! The tomatoes make it taste so fresh! 🌱🍅
I’m glad you liked it! Fresh tomatoes really do make a difference. 🍅👍
Really no warin about rising time… I just left it for 2 hours and it really turned out great!
This pizza was incredible! The home-grown tomatoes made such a difference. Will make again!
Wow, sounds delicious! Home-grown tomatoes are the best. I have to try this recipe soon! 🍅
I dunno about using Splenda in pizza dough. Seems weird. But happy it turned out great for you!
This takes too long with the rising. I just wanna eat pizza fast!
I hear ya! Who has time to wait when you’re hungry? Maybe try a quick flatbread pizza next time?
Patience is key! Good pizza takes time to rise. You can always prep it ahead of time and have it ready to bake!
How much is a ‘generous layer’ of sauce? I just threw it on there hahaha
This pizza turned out amazing! My family loved it!
That’s so great to hear! I love making pizza with fresh ingredients. What’s your secret to getting the crust just right?
Wow, my pizza never comes out that good. I think I might’ve messed up on the yeast last time. Any tips?
This was amazing! My family loved it. The tomatoes made it so fresh and tasty.
This seems too complicated. Why not just buy frozen pizzas? Lazy n00b here.
This recipe is fantastic! The texture of the dough was perfect and combining fresh tomatoes with cheese was delicious!
I don’t think Splenda belongs on pizza! Just saying it might mess with the taste.
I totally agree! The fresh tomatoes really make a difference, don’t they? 🍅
Wait, is Splenda the same as regular sugar? I thought they were different.
Nope, Splenda is a sugar substitute that doesn’t have the same calories or carbs as regular sugar. It’s made from sucralose, so they’re definitely different.
I made this and my dough didn’t really rise. I think my water wasn’t actually room temp (it was kinda cold), so lesson learned. Flavor was good though!
My DOG loves it! 😂 But I don’t eat pizza like that.
Great recipe! Also tried it with zucchini and mushrooms on top—super tasty! 😋
Zucchini on pizza? Never thought of that! Sounds weird but maybe it’s good? I’ll try it! 🌱
This recipe is amazing! I tried it with my own tomatoes and it turned out perfecto! 🍅🍕
Wow, this is a lot of steps, but it was worth it! Pizza night was a hit!
This is basically just bread? Where’s the beef? 🤔
You can totally add meat if you want! It’s not just bread, think of all the toppings you can put on it! 🍕
This pizza turned out amazing! I used my own homegrown tomatoes. 🥳 So fresh!
I was skeptical about using 2 packs of yeast with only 2 cups flour. It turned out okay though, kind of bready and fluffy. Next time I’d probably use 1 pack and maybe add a touch more water.
Yum! Made this for the fam and they devoured it! #FamilyApproved
That’s awesome to hear! Nothing better than family meals 😊. What toppings did you use?
Really yummy, and I didn’t even have cheese! Used nutritional yeast instead. Still great!
Splenda sugar for dough?? That’s wild to me. I’m sure it works, but I’d rather just let the yeast do its job. Flavor-wise, though, it wasn’t bad.
Easy recipe! My kids loved it. We used store-bought sauce instead and it was still yum!
I don’t know… using store-bought sauce kinda feels like cheating. 🤔
That’s awesome! Store-bought sauce is a great time-saver! Glad your kids enjoyed it! 🍕
425°F feels a little hot for a thin crust—have you tried it? Mine usually takes closer to 10-12 minutes or the cheese browns too fast. Still, I love the veggie combo.
Yum! A+ would make again. I used mozzarella instead of parmesan. So gooood!
I never thought of using mozzarella instead of parmesan! Great idea! Gotta try this next time.
I love this recipe! Fresh tomatoes make a huge difference. Really appreciate the details. THX!! 🌱
I totally agree! There’s something so special about using home-grown tomatoes. 🍅 Keep up the great work!
Fresh tomatoes are good, but how do you know the pizza won’t turn out soggy? 🤔
