Butter steak is one of those dishes that proves you do not need a long list of ingredients to create something unforgettable. It is tender, juicy, and full of bold, beefy flavor, made even better with the addition of garlic-infused butter and fresh herbs. With just a few simple steps, you can bring the taste of a high-end steakhouse into your own kitchen.
Start with a quality cut of beef like ribeye, strip, filet mignon, or sirloin. Let the steak sit at room temperature for about 20 to 30 minutes before cooking so it cooks more evenly. A hot, heavy-bottomed pan is key. Cast iron works best because it holds heat and helps develop a deep brown crust. Season the steak generously with salt and pepper and sear it in a bit of oil until golden brown on both sides.
Once your steak is almost cooked to your preferred level of doneness, it is time to bring in the butter. Drop a few tablespoons into the pan along with smashed garlic cloves and sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme. As the butter melts and begins to foam, tilt the pan slightly and spoon the hot, flavored butter over the steak repeatedly. This basting technique adds flavor, helps the steak cook more evenly, and gives it a rich, glossy finish.
After basting, let the steak rest for a few minutes so the juices settle. This is an important step that keeps every bite juicy and flavorful. Slice it against the grain and serve it with your favorite sides like roasted potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a crisp salad.
Butter steak is all about quality and care. It does not need a sauce or extra seasoning because the buttery finish speaks for itself. Whether you’re cooking for a special occasion or just want to enjoy something satisfying, this dish always impresses..

I tried it but it turned out too greasy for my taste. Just didn’t work for me.
Is it really that easy to make a steak? I’m kinda skeptical about the butter method. Sounds too simple 🙂
This butter steak recipe is everything! The butter made it so rich and delicious. Can’t believe how easy it was. Definitely doing this again!
Really liked the seasoning, but I think I overcooked mine…they were tough. Next time!
Overcooked steak is like shoe leather, lol. You should try using a meat thermometer to avoid that!
Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us! Just gotta keep an eye on the cooking time next time. 😊
I made this last night and my family loved it! They always ask for steak but this time was diffrent.
Best steak ever! Definitely worth trying for steak lovers out there.
I don’t get the fuss over steak. It’s just meat! 🤷♂️
I added garlic and thyme to the butter, and wow! Game changer! 🧄🌿
Seems easy enough, but I don’t think I have the patience to wait 20 minutes before eating! 😩
I totally get you! That waiting period is killer. Can’t you just eat it right away, though? Wouldn’t wanna let that butter go to waste! 😂
Yum! I’m no chef but this was pretty easy to follow! Loved it!
Using canola oil is a little weird for a steak recipe. Shouldn’t be using olive oil instead?
Simply delicious, but why let it rest for 20 mins? Sounds kinda outrageous! But my steak was still great.
Letting it rest is important! It helps the juices distribute or something. But hey, glad you liked it! 😄
Crossing my fingers this works for my date! Could be a disaster or a win! 🤞
Uh, isn’t butter unhealthy? I’m not sure this is a good idea for a date. Maybe grill it instead?
You’ll do great! Just keep an eye on the heat. Butter can burn easily! 🍳
I followed the recipe but it didn’t turn out as good as I hoped. Maybe I should’ve seasoned more? Still edible tho.
It’s all about the seasoning! A little more salt and pepper can make a huge difference. Don’t give up, you’ll nail it next time!
I got confused about the resting time. Why 20 minutes? Isn’t that a bit long for steak, like how do u keep it warm?
Looks too simple. How can it be that good with just butter and steak? I’m skeptical.
Mmm, this recipe looks legit! I love steak with a crispy outside! Just need to get my hands on a good cut of meat.
This Butter Steak recipe is amazing! My family loved it! 👌
Meh, I don’t get the hype around steak. Just a hunk of meat lol.
But like, have you tried it with the butter? It’s a game changer! 🍳
I totally understand! It’s not for everyone. I prefer chicken myself. 🙈
Honestly, I don’t get the hype. A steak is a steak. Not worth all the calories!
Is 20 minutes resting really necessary? Seems like a long time to wait for steak.
Yum! Steak is my fav! 10/10 would eat again!
I thought steaks were supposed to be cooked on a grill? Seems like a lot of butter, IDK, not my jam.
This butter steak is the best! Super tender and juicy! Will make it again for sure!
Tried this but my smoke alarm went off, LOL! Butter splattered everywhere! But the steak tasted good. 😂
LOL, sounds like quite the adventure in the kitchen! Maybe next time, turn down the heat a little? 😅 But glad the steak was good!
This is the best steak recipe I’ve ever tried! The butter makes it so juicy. 5 stars!
I thought butter was for toast. 😕 Not steak. But went for it and now I can’t stop making it.
I didn’t have canola oil, so used olive oil instead. Still turned out pretty good.
Yum! Used garlic powder in place of steak seasoning. Tasted great!
Butter and steak? What’s not to love? The butter made it so rich, I can’t stop thinking about it!
Steak? More like rock after I cooked it 😅. I should stick to grilling.
Did you really need to melt a whole stick of butter for just 12 oz of steak? Sounds excessive!
Butter makes everything better! It’s worth it for that flavor.
Seems like a lot of butter to me. You sure that’s not overkill?
Very simple! I added garlic for more flavor. Yum!
I dunno, adding garlic is kinda weird for steak. Just stick to the butter.
Garlic sounds like a great addition! I’ll have to try that next time.
Followed all the steps but forgot to let it rest. Still tasted good!
Butter steak? Really? Seems like a lot of butter! Is it even healthy?
OMG I want to cook this RIGHT NOW!!!
Made this last night, and my husband couldn’t stop raving! Used some garlic in the butter too. So tasty!
I dunno, butter steak? Sounds kinda greasy… but glad your husband liked it!
Wow, that sounds amazing! Garlic is a great addition to butter steak. I’ll have to try it next time.
The cooking time was off for me. It felt undercooked. Better to check temp.
I had the same issue! The timing didn’t work for me either. Next time I’ll definitely check the temp too!
Followed the recipe exactly and my steak was perfect! Thanks Kevin! 😊
Awesome! I love butter steak. Can’t wait to try it myself! 😍
I think 7 minutes is too long. My steak always ends up overcooked. 🤷♂️
I tried this recipe but my steak turned out a bit too greasy. Maybe less butter next time?
It was OK, but I think I overcooked the steak. Can’t believe I let that happen! 😞
Honestly, it’s just steak. Just chop it up and use it for a stir fry! No big deal. 😅
Don’t be too hard on yourself! Cooking steak can be tricky. Next time, try using a meat thermometer to help get it just right. 🥩
I followed the recipe, but the steak came out tough. Maybe I overcooked it? 🙁
Yeah, overcooking can definitely make steak tough. Next time, try cooking it for less time and use a meat thermometer to check the temperature!
The amount of butter seems excessive. Can’t be healthy.
Steak seasoning? I just used salt and pepper. It was fine.
Gotta try this! But can you use olive oil instead of canola? Seems like a healthier choice.
Olive oil sounds like a good substitute! It might add a nice flavor too!
Eh, I don’t know about using olive oil. Isn’t it for salads? Canola is more for cooking, right?
So simple yet so DELICIOUS! Perfect for impressing guests without all the fuss!
Butter on steak? Never thought of that. It’s like a flavor explosion! Must try again!
This steak was amazing! So tender and flavorful. Definitely a winner in my book.
Totally agree! Butter makes everything better. I can’t wait to try this recipe myself.
Really? I thought steak should be grilled, using butter seems a bit odd to me.
The steak I made wasn’t that good. Maybe my pan was too hot. I dunno.
This was absolutely delicious! The butter really made the steak taste amazing.
