Home Grown Tomato Pizza

July 24, 2024

This delicious pizza uses fresh, home-grown ingredients to create the perfect flavor combination.

There’s nothing quite like the taste of a pizza made with fresh, homegrown tomatoes and Home Grown Tomato Pizza. The natural sweetness and juiciness of the tomatoes make this pizza a true celebration of summer. Whether you’re using tomatoes straight from your garden or a local farmer’s market, this pizza brings all the fresh flavors together in a satisfying, easy-to-make meal.

Start with a simple pizza dough, either store-bought or homemade, and spread it out onto a baking sheet or pizza stone. Drizzle a little olive oil over the dough, then layer on a generous amount of fresh mozzarella cheese. The cheese will melt beautifully as it bakes, becoming gooey and golden.

For the tomatoes, slice them thinly, season with salt, pepper, and a little drizzle of olive oil, and arrange them evenly on top of the cheese. The fresh tomatoes will roast slightly in the oven, releasing their juices and intensifying in flavor. You can also add a sprinkle of dried oregano or fresh basil leaves for that classic Italian touch.

Bake the Home Grown Tomato Pizza in a hot oven, usually around 475°F (245°C), until the crust is golden and crispy and the cheese is bubbling. The result is a simple yet incredibly flavorful pizza that showcases the freshness of the tomatoes, complemented by the creamy mozzarella and crispy crust.

This pizza is perfect for a casual dinner, a weekend lunch, or as an appetizer for a gathering. You can add extra toppings like garlic, olives, or even a drizzle of balsamic glaze for a little extra flavor. Whether you’re enjoying it with a glass of wine or simply as a light meal, homegrown tomato pizza is a dish that celebrates the beauty of fresh ingredients.

Sounds good, but is it really that special? What if the tomatoes aren’t ripe? 🤔

Delicious! What toppings can I add to this? I have turkey pepperoni in my fridge.

    1. User avatar manuel.heller says:

      2 stars
Idk, isn’t turkey pepperoni kinda weird? I thought real pepperoni is better.

    2. User avatar Renaldo Jerde says:

      5 stars
Turkey pepperoni would be great! You could also add some mushrooms or olives for extra flavor.

  6. User avatar Alia Atreides says:

    3 stars
I think you should’ve added more toppings. Like, where’s the pepperoni?! 😱

  7. User avatar laurinda.hilpert57 says:

    5 stars
Yum! Just made this for my family and they gobbled it all up! 🥳

  8. 3 stars
I dunno, I think it’s too much olive oil. Made it too greasy for my taste. 🤷‍♂️

  9. User avatar Samwise Gamgee says:

    4 stars
Simpel and tasty! I added pepperoni too! Yum!

It’s ok, but the Splenda made it taste weird…

  13. User avatar ethan.kuvalis says:

This is the best pizza I’ve ever made! The dough was so fluffy!

  14. 1 star
Does it really need 2 packages of yeast? Seems like too much! Also, what’s Splenda?

    1. User avatar son.volkman64 says:

      3 stars
Yeah, I was thinking the same! Two packages seems like a lot. I’ve only ever used one. What’s Splenda anyway? Is it a brand or a type of sweetener?

    2. User avatar marlin.windler1984 says:

      5 stars
No way! You need that much yeast for it to rise properly. Splenda is just a sugar substitute, it helps with sweetness without the calories. Just go with it!

  15. User avatar lorenza.smith says:

    2 stars
Followed this step by step and it came out gooey and not crispy at all 🙁

  16. User avatar Dwarven Shpere says:

    2 stars
I dunno about the Splenda. Why not just use real sugar? Seems weird to me.

    1. 4 stars
Real sugar just tastes better, duh! Splenda is for diets, not for pizza!

    2. 3 stars
I think Splenda is fine if you want to cut down on sugar, but for pizza? Just sounds off to me. Why fix what’s not broken?

  17. User avatar fredia.schultz2000 says:

    5 stars
Yum! Can’t believe I made this myself. Gonna be my go-to recipe now! 🎉

    1. User avatar levi.deckow95 says:

That’s awesome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. 😊 What toppings did you use?

    2. User avatar Arwen Evenstar says:

      3 stars
Kinda skeptical, does it really taste that good? I mean, it’s just dough and tomatoes right?

  18. User avatar thea.reinger says:

    5 stars
This pizza is to die for! I love using tomatoes from my garden. 5 stars!

  19. 3 stars
Not sure about the sweetener in pizza? Seems weird. Just use natural ingredients, right?

  20. User avatar Dwarven Shpere says:

    3 stars
Why use Splenda? Just use sugar! It’s not that much anyway. Don’t get why people are using fake sugars.

  21. User avatar Falmer Warmonger says:

    5 stars
My family loves this recipe! Easy ingredients and super yummy.

    1. User avatar felton.mckenzie says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This pizza is super simple to whip up and tastes amazing! My kids loved it too.

  22. User avatar basementDweller says:

    4 stars
I didn’t think Splenda would work in pizza dough, but it actually made it tastier! Who knew?

  23. 4 stars
I used whole wheat flour and added some garlic. Tasted amazing!!

    1. 5 stars
That sounds delicious! I never thought of adding garlic to pizza dough. I might try it myself next time.

  24. 3 stars
The crust was a little too thick for my liking. I like my pizza thin and crispy.

    1. User avatar stewart.christiansen23 says:

      3 stars
Thick crust is fine too, I mean, it’s pizza! Just add more toppings and you won’t even notice the crust. 😄

    2. 4 stars
I totally get what you mean! Thin and crispy is the way to go for pizza. Maybe try rolling the dough thinner next time?

  25. User avatar salvatore.leuschke49 says:

    2 stars
Just made this, and it’s okay. Not bad but nothing special. Kinda bland.

    1. User avatar elijah.feeney92 says:

      4 stars
I get what you’re saying. Sometimes homemade pizzas can be hit or miss. What toppings did you use?

  26. User avatar merlene.block1990 says:

    5 stars
This pizza was fantastic! The tomatoes added a fresh flavor that store-bought can’t match. Will make again!

    1. User avatar roman.jones90 says:

      5 stars
I completely agree! Fresh tomatoes make such a difference. Can’t wait to try this recipe myself!

  27. 3 stars
Not sure why the dough didn’t rise well. Maybe my yeast was old? 3 stars for the flavor, but I need to troubleshoot the dough.

  28. 3 stars
Honestly, Splenda?! Real sugar is way better. Will try without it next time.

    1. User avatar Hotblack Desiato's bodyguard says:

      4 stars
Real sugar does taste better for sure! But this recipe is for a healthier option. Can’t wait to see how it turns out without the Splenda!

    2. User avatar liliana.beier says:

      2 stars
Why does it matter? Sugar is sugar, and who really uses Splenda anyway? Just get the good stuff, man. 😒

  29. 4 stars
Yummy! I only had cheddar cheese, but it still worked! Gonna try with mozzarella next time.

    1. 5 stars
I love that you made it work with cheddar! Mozzarella is a classic, but sometimes you gotta improvise! Can’t wait to hear how the next one turns out! 🍕

  30. 3 stars
Tomato pizza? Boring! You can’t beat a pepperoni pizza, just saying.

    1. User avatar pamila.balistreri says:

      4 stars
Pepperoni is good but you gotta try this! Fresh veggies make it amazing!

  31. 2 stars
I tried making this, but the dough didn’t rise! What did I do wrong?

    1. User avatar mathWizard says:

      5 stars
Did you use fresh yeast? Old yeast can be a problem. Also, are you sure your water was at room temp? Too hot or too cold messes it up!

    2. User avatar mollie.smith23 says:

      4 stars
Maybe you didn’t let it sit long enough? The dough needs time to rise, like, 1 hour. Try again!

  32. User avatar Chi Shenlong says:

    2 stars
I don’t like the idea of whole wheat flour for pizza. Should have used white flour for better crust!

  33. User avatar abdul.glover says:

    1 star
My dough didn’t rise. What went wrong? I followed all the steps. So frustrating!

  34. User avatar Barry Manilow says:

    3 stars
This was OK. I mean, pizza is pizza right? But not as good as the one at Joe’s down the street.

  35. 2 stars
I followed the recipe, but mine came out flat. What did I do wrong? 😩

  36. 3 stars
Did anyone else find the crust too thick? I like it thinner!

  37. 2 stars
Maybe next time I’ll use white flour instead? Wheat is too healthy for pizza, lol.

    1. User avatar latonya.collier1991 says:

      4 stars
I think white flour makes a way better pizza! Wheat can be too dense sometimes. Just my opinion! 🍕

  38. 2 stars
I don’t know about the Splenda. I think sugar is better for pizza. Didn’t turn out great for me. 2/5.

    1. 4 stars
I understand where you’re coming from! Splenda can be hit or miss. Sugar does add a different flavor. Maybe try honey next time? It might turn out better! 😊

  39. 5 stars
