Fried mozzarella sticks are a classic indulgence that never goes out of style. Golden, crispy on the outside, and gooey on the inside, they are the perfect combination of textures and flavors. Whether you’re preparing them for a party, game day, or simply as a treat for yourself, these homemade mozzarella sticks are sure to satisfy any craving.
To make the best mozzarella sticks, you start by cutting mozzarella cheese into thick, rectangular pieces. Then, each cheese stick is dipped in a seasoned flour mixture, coated in beaten eggs, and covered in a crunchy breadcrumb coating. For extra flavor, add some Italian seasoning, garlic powder, or grated Parmesan to the breadcrumbs. This ensures that each bite is bursting with flavor, while the cheese inside stays perfectly melted.
Once the sticks are coated, they’re ready for frying. The oil should be hot enough to create that perfect golden crust but not too hot to burn them quickly. Fry the mozzarella sticks until they’re crispy and brown, about 2-3 minutes. The key is to ensure that the cheese inside has melted just enough so it’s gooey but not oozing out completely.
The result? A deliciously crispy shell that gives way to a warm, melty cheese center. Serve your mozzarella sticks with a side of marinara sauce for dipping, or try a spicy ranch or garlic butter sauce for a fun twist. They’re perfect for snacking, appetizers, or even a fun addition to any meal.

375°F is tricky—my first batch was greasy. After I waited longer for the oil to truly get hot, they turned out much better.
I don’t really like breadcrumbs. Would it work to just fry them plain?
Frying them plain sounds kinda weird! I think the coating is what makes them crispy and yummy. Maybe try a different coating instead?
Why not? You could fry plain cheese, right? Just won’t be the same tho.
Just made these and they were a hit at the party! So gooey and delicious. ❤️
Used gluten-free breadcrumbs and they were still awesome! Highly recommend!
These turned out amazing! Super cheesy and crispy, just like at the restaurant. Will definitely make again!
YUM! I added some chili powder for kick. They were spicy and tasty! 🔥
Nice idea adding chili powder! I usually just stick to the recipe, but now I’m curious to try it your way! 🌶️
Great snacks for movie night! My kids loved them, will make again!
I tried this recipe and they turned out soggy. What did I do wrong?
I tried this but my cheese melted too much. Any tips for keeping them gooey?
I don’t understand how frying them makes them cook? Doesn’t it just heat them up?
Aren’t mozzarella sticks supposed to be deep-fried? Seems too easy.
Yeah, I thought they needed to be deep-fried too! But this seems like a quick way to do it. Might try it!
375°F is kinda hot, lol. I was scared and it splattered a bit. Still tasted great though. Would recommend using a thermometer if you have one.
375°F definitely sounds spicy 😅 But the thermometer note is so real—my oil always feels hotter than it is. Glad they still turned out good!
I always skip the thermometer and just look for bubbles… but yeah, if it splattered it probably wasn’t steady heat. Next time I’ll chill them longer so they don’t pop so much. Great flavor though!
Why bother making this? Can just go to a restaurant n order. Lazy cooking now.
I don’t know about frying them… seems kinda complicated. Couldn’t I just bake them instead?
Yum! 😍 Perfect for game night. I dipped ’em in ranch dressing instead of marinara. Total hit!
These are the best mozzarella sticks ever! So crispy and cheesy! 😊
Not worth the effort! It was so much work for just some cheese sticks, plus I burned mine.
This isn’t real cooking. Just buy them frozen, it’s easier.
Why do you need to freeze them? Just fry and eat!
Just a mess. Oil everywhere, and the coating fell off… not happy.
These came out perfectly crispy on the outside and melty inside. I froze them like the recipe said and they didn’t burst at all—huge win. Will make again!
Yes!! Crispy outside + melty inside is exactly the goal. I love that they didn’t burst for you—freezing really does the trick.
Mine usually burst a little 😅 but maybe I’m not freezing long enough. Did you fry straight from the freezer or let them sit at room temp first?
Good recipe, but I think 3 minutes is a little optimistic depending on your oil temp. Mine needed closer to 4–5 to get fully golden.
Totally agree—3 minutes was way too fast for me too. My oil temp kept dropping and they didn’t really get golden until closer to 4-5.
375°F is key. The first batch I rushed and they were pale. Second batch at temp was golden in like 3 minutes like the recipe says.
Hmm I dunno. Mine took like 6 minutes last time at 375 and still weren’t “golden” really… maybe my breadcrumbs were thicker? Also I forgot to freeze bc I was hungry lol, could be that.
Totally agree—375°F is the make-or-break. I tried higher once and they browned too fast but the inside was still meh. Frozen 10 min helps a lot too.
Meh. Flavor was okay, but they were greasy and not as crunchy as I expected. Next time I might try baking instead or use an air fryer.
Not bad! My hubby isn’t a fan of fried stuff but he gobbled them up! Will make again.
That’s awesome! Glad he liked them! They’re so good with marinara sauce too! 😍
Fried stuff is unhealthy tho… but whatever works for ya! Just don’t do it too much!
They weren’t that great, my cheese leaked out when frying… whats up with that?
Maybe you didn’t freeze them long enough? That can help keep the cheese from leaking out.
I don’t know… 3 minutes at 375 felt too short. I pulled mine early and they were a little pale. Next time I’ll fry until deeper golden.
Totally agree—3 minutes at 375 can be a little optimistic depending on how cold they are. I usually go until they’re deeper golden and the coating feels crisp, like 4–5 minutes.
Hmm mine took longer too, but I think it’s because I didn’t freeze long enough. 10 min seems short—try closer to 20 min and then fry. Also if they’re pale, maybe your oil isn’t really 375?
Mozzarella sticks? More like ghost sticks! They vanished too quick. 😂
Haha, I feel you! They never last long around here either. Got any tips to make them a bit slower to disappear? 😂
Ghost sticks? More like a snack attack! They sure don’t stick around when my friends are over, that’s for sure. 😂
Fried cheese?! Yes plz! So easy and delicious. Will make again for sure.
Really good, but my oil temp dropped a bit so they took closer to 4 minutes. Still delicious though—next time I’ll fry in smaller batches.
