Cranberry Orange Glazed Chicken

December 3, 2025

Cranberry Orange Glazed Chicken is the kind of winter dish that brings brightness to even the coldest evening. It blends sweet citrus, tart cranberries, and tender, juicy chicken into a meal that feels festive and comforting at the same time. The glaze is the heart of the recipe, a glossy mix that caramelizes beautifully as it cooks, turning each piece of chicken into a burst of flavor. Orange zest adds freshness, cranberry sauce provides depth, and a touch of honey balances everything with gentle sweetness.

As the chicken roasts, the glaze thickens into a rich coating that turns sticky, shiny, and pleasantly fragrant. Every bite has a mix of citrus sparkle and warm savory notes, making it perfect for holiday gatherings, family dinners, or any night when you want something that feels special without extra effort. This recipe works beautifully with chicken thighs, drumsticks, or breasts, and it adapts well whether you want a full roast or a simple stovetop meal.

The beauty of the dish is how easily it pairs with winter sides. Serve it with creamy mashed potatoes for a classic comfort combination or spoon it over herbed rice to soak up all the glaze. Roasted vegetables like carrots, hashed Brussels sprouts, or parsnips bring earthy tones that complement the brightness of the citrus, while a fresh arugula green salad with walnuts or pears adds a refreshing contrast. Even something simple like warm crusty bread works if you want to keep the meal rustic and cozy.

For a complete dining experience, pair the dish with a wine that highlights its citrus and cranberry flavors. A chilled Riesling adds a sweet and crisp contrast that enhances the fruity glaze, while a Pinot Noir brings soft berry notes that echo the cranberries without overpowering the chicken. Both wines keep the meal light enough for weeknights but elegant enough for celebrations.

Cranberry Orange Glazed Chicken brings together color, flavor, and simplicity in a way that instantly lifts the mood of the table. It is bright, seasonal, and full of warmth, the ideal winter recipe to enjoy again and again.

Looks fancy! Can I use frozen chicken? Or does it have to be fresh? Help!

This is my new favorite chicken recipe! The glaze is to die for. I added some garlic powder too!

my kids loved it tho, so I guess it works even if I’m not a fan of orange flavor

  5. 5 stars
Easy and tasty! 👏 Loved the sweet and tangy flavor. Will make again for sure!

  6. 2 stars
Too much orange! I ended up adding more soy to balance it out. Next time less juice for me.

  7. User avatar harland.legros76 says:

Is soy sauce really necessary? I thought it was a dessert dish with sugar and fruits.

  8. User avatar sharolyn.spencer says:

Made this for a dinner party and everyone was impressed. The sweet and savory combo is amazing!

    1. 2 stars
Really? I don’t know about mixing sweet with savory like that. Sounds odd.

      5 stars
This sounds delicious! I’m definitely trying it next week. Thanks for sharing!

  9. 3 stars
Do you really need the soy sauce? Seems weird for chicken. I’m skeptical.

  10. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

    2 stars
Sounds fancy but too many ingredients for me. I prefer simpler recipes.

    1. 2 stars
Nah, too complicated for me. I’ll stick with my grilled cheese, thank you!

    2. 4 stars
I think it’s worth trying! The flavors sound amazing, and you can always skip a few ingredients if you want to make it simpler.

Easy to make, tasty too. Will definitely make it again! 😊

  12. User avatar Morton Harris says:

    3 stars
I followed this recipe exactly but my chicken turned out dry. Maybe I cooked it too long?

  13. 3 stars
I think 15-20 minutes is a wide range. Mine needed closer to 22 to get to 165°F. Also, I had to rest longer than 5 minutes because it was still steaming a lot.

  14. User avatar maryalice.wisoky says:

    5 stars
This was delicious! The glaze was perfect and my family loved it. I added some garlic for extra flavor.

  15. User avatar adena.jenkins46 says:

  17. 5 stars
AMAZING meal. I never cooked chicken like this before but now I’m a pro! Thanks!

  18. 3 stars
Cranberries are not for chicken, but I gave it a try. It was okay, just not my thing.

  19. User avatar Janella Zieme says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have fresh cranberries, so I used dried ones. Still turned out good! 😋

  20. User avatar rosaline.oberbrunner16 says:

    2 stars
The glaze was way too sweet for my taste. I think it needs less honey.

  21. User avatar ignacio.runolfsdottir35 says:

    2 stars
Glaze was good, but the chicken turned out dry. Maybe I cooked it too long? 🤔

    1. User avatar Antoine Wiza says:

      4 stars
Yeah, chicken breast can be tricky. It dries out fast if cooked too long! Maybe try lower temps next time?

  22. User avatar takisha.west says:

    4 stars
Not bad! The orange zest really pops. I was unsure about the soy sauce but it actually makes the flavor deeper. My family ate it fast.

  23. User avatar Jill Skiles says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—so good. The glaze is sweet-tangy and the orange zest really pops. I’d never thought cranberry + soy sauce would work, but wow.

    1. User avatar dahlia.adams39 says:

      5 stars
Agree—cranberry + soy sauce is such a weird-sounding combo but it makes the glaze way more flavorful. The orange zest really does elevate it!

  24. User avatar Schule Donavitch says:

    1 star
I don’t really get why you would put soy sauce in a dessert-like glaze. Sounds strange.

  25. User avatar wellRespected says:

    2. User avatar marc.bailey says:

      3 stars
Sounds good, but isn’t orange juice kinda sweet? Wouldn’t it be too much with honey too?

  27. User avatar annabelle.gibson says:

    1 star
Srsly? The chicken keeps drying out! I followed the recipe but idk.

  28. User avatar janelle.herman says:

Why do people put fruit in savory dishes? Not my thing. Thumbs down! 👎

    1. 4 stars
I totally get it, not everyone likes sweet and savory mixes. But I personally love it! Gives the dish a unique twist. 🍊👌

  30. User avatar florance.schmitt48 says:

    4 stars
Simple recipe but why is the temp in ferenheit? I’m used to celsius!

    1. User avatar colin.cremin says:

      4 stars
I totally get your point! Celsius is so much easier. Maybe just use an online converter next time? Anyway, this chicken looks delicious!

    2. User avatar leslee.stamm57 says:

      3 stars
Ferenheit? What is that? I just cook by feel and taste, no need for temps! But this glaze sounds yum!

  31. 3 stars
I don’t like cranberries, so I substituted them with blueberries. Not the same! But my kids loved it.

  32. User avatar Ulysses Stracke Jr. says:

    5 stars
This was such a hit at dinner! The glaze was sweet and tangy. Will make again!

  33. User avatar alex.schroeder6 says:

    3 stars
I tried this and the chicken turned out a bit dry. Maybe reduce the cooking time?

  34. User avatar stasia.dickinson89 says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—wow. The glaze is sweet-tangy and the soy sauce really deepens the flavor. I used frozen cranberries and they worked perfectly.

  35. User avatar chanell.sipes says:

    5 stars
This was absolutely delicious! The glaze was perfect. My family loved it!

  36. 2 stars
Okay, but why does it say two pieces chicken breast? Like… how big? Mine were huge and it didn’t cook through even after the full time. Otherwise, flavor was great.

  37. 2 stars
Tried this but it didn’t turn out right. The glaze was too sweet for my taste.

  38. 5 stars
My dog loved it more than I did! 😂

    1. User avatar maryanna.quitzon89 says:

      5 stars
That’s so cute! Dogs know what’s good! 🐶❤️

  39. 3 stars
I’m not sure about using honey AND orange juice—felt a bit too sweet for me. Next time I’ll cut the honey in half or add a splash more soy sauce.

    1. User avatar Rob McKenna says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—honey + orange juice can be cloying. Cutting the honey in half is a great fix, and the extra soy sauce idea is spot on for balancing sweetness.

  40. User avatar alia.ortiz28 says:

    2 stars
How many people can this serve? I need to cook for a family of 6.

    1. User avatar conrad.heidenreich35 says:

      3 stars
That seems too little for 6! You’d need at least 6 chicken breasts, right?

    2. User avatar allan.bernier80 says:

      4 stars
It should serve 2 people based on the ingredients, but you could double it for your family!

  41. User avatar shaquita.schuppe says:

    5 stars
Yum! I used frozen cranberries and it worked just fine. Will make again!

    1. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

      5 stars
Glad to hear it worked for you! Frozen cranberries are a great option. Can’t wait to try it myself!

  42. 4 stars
I like that it’s not complicated, but 15-20 minutes in the oven after searing felt a little long for my skillet. I checked at 12 minutes and it was already at temp.

  43. User avatar kerri.paucek18 says:

    3 stars
Is soy sauce really needed? Seems odd for chicken. I might skip it next time.

  44. User avatar livia.welch says:

    4 stars
Haven’t made it yet, but looks tasty! Got all the groceries ready.

  45. User avatar sherley.bogisich54 says:

    4 stars
I’m not usually a fan of cranberry with chicken, but the orange zest saved it. Next time I’ll zest more orange because I like it punchier.

  46. User avatar Johnsie Heller says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I burned the first glaze attempt because I got distracted. The second time I stirred more and it thickened right around 10 minutes. Lesson learned!

  47. User avatar mathWizard says:

    5 stars
    yummy!!!

  48. User avatar Ali Gaither says:

    4 stars
375°F seems a bit high to me with chicken breast, but it was fine. Resting 5 minutes helped a lot. I’d do the rest for 10 next time.

  49. 4 stars
Pretty tasty, but mine took longer than 10 min for the cranberries to burst (fresh ones can be stubborn). Still, the sauce thickened nicely and the chicken stayed juicy.

  50. User avatar loura.witting60 says:

    3 stars
This is just chicken breast with some sauce. I thought it would be more complicated.

  51. 3 stars
The instructions are clear, but 2 chicken breasts only makes enough for two people and the glaze feels like a lot. Still tasty though—just plan portions.

  52. User avatar dana.stracke says:

    2 stars
Tried it and the glaze kinda burned on the bottom even though I stirred. Could be my pan I guess. Also it smelled amazing, but texture turned weird. Might try again with lower heat.

    1. User avatar courtney.blanda4 says:

      4 stars
Smelled amazing but texture turned weird… I bet your glaze got too reduced. Next time maybe simmer it just until it thickens (10 min can be a lot depending on your heat) and then thin slightly with a splash of orange juice if it’s super thick before pouring.

    2. User avatar geoWizard says:

      4 stars
Ugh, that burned-bottom glaze is so frustrating. I’d try lowering the oven a bit (or covering the skillet loosely with foil after it goes in). Also make sure the skillet isn’t too hot before it hits the oven—searing can leave extra browning.

  53. User avatar willian.klocko34 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is amazing! The flavors are so vibrant and refreshing. My family loved it!

    1. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This recipe made my kitchen smell so good! Can’t wait to make it again!

  54. 4 stars
Wow, I never thought orange and cranberry would go together like this! So good!

  55. User avatar leslie.funk40 says:

    3 stars
Mine came out a little too sweet—probably my honey was extra runny. I’d cut honey by like 1-2 tablespoons if you’re watching sugar.

  56. User avatar randolph.breitenberg1998 says:

    5 stars
This is giving sweet and savory Christmas vibes. I added a pinch of garlic powder and it tasted even better. Great weeknight meal.

  57. User avatar Zarniwoop says:

    3 stars
Not sure if my cranberries were too sour or my honey too shy, but the glaze wasn’t sweet enough for me. Still ate it, just added more honey at the end.

    1. User avatar douglas.swift says:

      4 stars
Honestly I think your glaze needed more time to reduce. If it didn’t thicken enough, it’ll taste less sweet and more “juicey.” Next time simmer till it coats the back of a spoon.

    2. User avatar Leto II Atreides says:

      4 stars
That sounds like a sour/tart issue—fresh cranberries can be way sharper. I usually add honey a little at a time while it simmers, until it tastes right.

  58. 5 stars
Made this for dinner last night—sweet-tangy glaze was legit. The orange zest really pops. My chicken came out juicy too. Will repeat.

  59. User avatar burton.jerde20 says:

    5 stars
This glaze is such a good combo—sweet, tangy, and not too sticky. I seared a bit longer and it came out perfectly juicy. Will make again for sure!

  60. User avatar art.ryan3 says:

    2 stars
Chicken breast dries out too easy for me. Even with the 15-20 minutes, mine was a little dry. Resting helped, but I might lower the oven time.

  61. User avatar mark.halvorson27 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! I had to cook the glaze a few extra minutes to get it thicker, but once it reduced it clung nicely to the chicken. Would make again.

  62. User avatar zane.kuhic87 says:

    2 stars
This is good but why 375 and then 15-20 min? Seared chicken should be done already. I ended up overcooking a bit. Could be my bad timing though.

    1. User avatar devon.goldner says:

      4 stars
Good question! The sear is just for color/flavor, but the chicken is usually not fully cooked through yet—so the 15–20 min in the oven finishes it and brings it to 165°F. The timing can vary a lot with thickness.

    2. User avatar mac.maggio29 says:

      4 stars
375°F feels a bit high for only 15-20 mins, but I guess it depends on breast thickness. I always check temp instead of time. Sorry it got overcooked for you 😕

  63. User avatar Tricia McMillan says:

    4 stars
Flavor is really good, but I found the glaze too thick once it cooled. Next time I’ll add a splash more oj or water while simmering.

    1. User avatar John Torp I says:

      5 stars
I had the same issue—after cooling it got almost paste-like. A splash of extra orange juice definitely helps. I sometimes whisk in a little water right at the end too.

  64. User avatar Cave Bear says:

    4 stars
I followed the recipe pretty much exactly, but my glaze turned out thicker than expected after 10 minutes—still delicious though. Next time I’ll simmer a couple minutes less.

  65. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    1 star
Sounds weird. Cranberry on chicken? Yet I guess I’ll try it.

  66. 2 stars
Yo the oven time messed me up—mine dried out at 15-20. Maybe my breasts were thin. Next time I’ll check earlier and pull at 160°F.

  67. 2 stars
I followed it exactly and the chicken was juuuust okay. The sauce is great, but the chicken itself felt a bit plain—even with searing. Could be my skillet.

  68. User avatar pamella.stehr says:

    4 stars
Honestly the soy sauce threw me off at first. But after baking, it tastes balanced (in a good way). I might use a tiny bit less honey next time though.

  69. User avatar janita.grady77 says:

    3 stars
Way too sweet for my taste—honey + cranberries is a lot. I’d cut the honey in half or add more soy/orange juice to balance. The chicken itself was still good.

  70. User avatar buford.lubowitz84 says:

    3 stars
I don’t usually trust recipes with ‘burst and thicken about 10 minutes’—depends on the cranberries. Mine took more like 20. If you’re watching closely you’ll be fine.
