Chicken Italiano

September 4, 2024

Chicken Italiano is a delicious, comforting dish packed with the rich flavors of Italy. Tender chicken breasts are simmered in a savory sauce of tomatoes, garlic, and herbs, then topped with gooey melted cheese. This dish is easy to prepare and brings together the best of Italian-inspired comfort food. Chicken plays an important role in Italian cuisine, offering versatility, flavor, and comfort across a variety of regional dishes.

The heart of Chicken Italiano is the sauce – a flavorful blend of veggies, herbs like basil, oregano, and a hint of red pepper flakes for a subtle kick. As the chicken simmers in this savory mixture, it becomes juicy and infused with aromatic Italian flavors. The sauce reduces slightly, becoming thick and rich, perfect for spooning over pasta, rice, or roasted vegetables. The result is a hearty, satisfying dish that’s both rustic and elegant.

Chicken Italiano is incredibly versatile. Serve it over spaghetti for a classic pairing, alongside garlic bread and a crisp salad, or with roasted potatoes for a comforting, filling meal. You can also customize it by adding olives, mushrooms, or bell peppers to the sauce for extra flavor and texture.

This dish is perfect for busy weeknights when you want something quick yet delicious or for weekend dinners when you’re in the mood for homemade comfort. Chicken Italiano offers that perfect combination of savory, cheesy, and saucy that everyone loves. It’s simple, satisfying, and guaranteed to become a family favorite.

While chicken isn’t traditionally paired with pasta in authentic Italian cooking (despite its popularity in Italian-American recipes), it’s often served alongside risottos, polenta, or roasted potatoes. Its mild flavor allows it to absorb the rich flavors of sauces, herbs, and wines beautifully.

Overall, chicken in Italian cuisine represents comfort, simplicity, and a deep respect for fresh, high-quality ingredients. Whether grilled, braised, baked, or fried, chicken continues to be a beloved choice in kitchens throughout Italy.

Can I use a different kinda wine? I don’t have white wine, only red. Will it ruin it?

    1. User avatar hubert.klein50 says:

I think red wine would totally change the flavor, but if you’re in a pinch, give it a shot! Might be different but who knows, it could be tasty!

Meh, I burnt the chicken! Instruction 8 needs more time. Not sure if I should try again.

    1. 4 stars
Don’t give up! Everyone burns a dish from time to time. Maybe next time you could lower the heat a bit to avoid burning.

  40. 4 stars
Loved the crunch from the breadcrumbs! But where’s the garlic? I feel like it was missing something!

  41. User avatar miesha.lebsack59 says:

Too much work to make for dinner. Just fry the chicken and call it a day. There are easier recipes.

  42. 2 stars
I don’t know about this one. The wine made it taste weird. I guess it might be an acquired taste? 🤷‍♂️
