Coconut Milk Ice Cream

April 1, 2026

Coconut Milk Ice Cream is a dreamy, creamy dessert that brings a tropical twist to a classic favorite. Made with rich coconut milk instead of traditional dairy, it offers a smooth, velvety texture and a naturally sweet, slightly nutty flavor that feels both indulgent and refreshing. Whether you follow a dairy-free lifestyle or simply love coconut, this ice cream is a delicious way to enjoy something cool and satisfying.

One of the best things about coconut milk ice cream is its simplicity. With just a few ingredients like full-fat coconut milk, sweetener, and vanilla, you can create a luscious dessert that rivals store-bought versions. The high fat content in coconut milk is key, giving the ice cream its signature creaminess without the need for heavy cream or eggs. It churns beautifully and freezes into a soft, scoopable texture that melts perfectly on the tongue.

Flavor-wise, coconut milk ice cream is incredibly versatile. It pairs wonderfully with tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, and passion fruit, but it also works well with classic additions like chocolate chips, caramel swirls, or toasted nuts. You can keep it simple and let the coconut shine, or experiment with bold flavors to create your own unique combinations. A hint of lime zest or a drizzle of honey can elevate it even further, adding brightness and depth.

Beyond its taste, this ice cream feels like a mini escape. Each bite carries a subtle tropical aroma that instantly transports you to a warm, sunny setting. It’s perfect for summer days, but just as comforting when you need a little treat during colder months. Served in a bowl, cone, or alongside desserts like brownies or fruit pies, it adds a refreshing contrast that enhances every dish.

Coconut Milk Ice Cream proves that you don’t need dairy to create something rich, creamy, and deeply satisfying. It’s a beautiful blend of simplicity and indulgence, offering a refreshing take on a beloved dessert while opening the door to endless flavor possibilities.

3 stars. It was ok, but too sweet for my taste. Next time I’ll cut the sugar.

Coconut milk ice cream? Sounds weird! But I’m willing to try it! 😂

Why use coconut milk? I don’t get why people like this whole ‘vegan’ thing. Regular ice cream is better.

  8. User avatar karisa.vandervort says:

I used less sugar (like 1/2 cup) because I’m watching it. Still tastes good, just slightly less sweet. Would recommend adjusting to taste.

    1. User avatar seema.tromp49 says:

      5 stars
Good call! I like that you adjusted it to taste—coconut milk sweetness really varies by brand anyway. 😊

    2. User avatar berna.nienow41 says:

I did the same thing once, but mine came out kinda icy. Maybe I under-sweetened or froze too short? Still not bad though.

  9. User avatar boyd.brown says:

    2 stars
I tried making this but it wouldn’t freeze! What did I do wrong?

  10. User avatar deangelo.rolfson says:

I’m skeptical of “just coconut milk + sugar” ice cream… but wow, it worked. Texture was better than expected. Added a pinch of salt though.

    1. User avatar amanda.auer45 says:

I tried it once w/ low-fat coconut milk and it came out like snow 😭 maybe not your recipe but still. Full-fat really matters, yeah?

    2. User avatar cristal.schmidt1 says:

      5 stars
Same here—thought it’d be icy or weirdly sweet, but the texture is actually super creamy. The pinch of salt is a great call too.

  11. User avatar ronny.schaefer says:

Not gonna lie, mine came out icy instead of creamy. I think my ice cream maker runs weak? Any advice would help.

    1. User avatar Flame Atronach says:

      5 stars
Oof, I’ve had that happen too. If it tastes icy, it’s usually under-churned or not enough fat. Make sure you use full-fat coconut milk (not “light”) and churn the full time in your machine. After churning, freeze it longer than 6 hours—overnight helps a lot.

    2. User avatar jeramy.nikolaus1995 says:

      4 stars
Maybe your machine is weak, but also check the coconut milk temp—chill it really well before churning. I once skipped that and it turned out like sad sorbet. Also, if your sugar isn’t fully dissolved, it can help it freeze hard/icy.

  12. User avatar bertie.schumm47 says:

Tastes just like the store-bought stuff! So nice to have a healthy option.

    1. 5 stars
That’s awesome! I love coconut milk ice cream! It really does taste like store-bought; way healthier too!

    2. 2 stars
I dunno, I make mines with heavy cream. Isn’t that better? This sounds too ‘light’ for ice cream.

  13. User avatar Falmer Shadowmaster says:

    3 stars
Made it, but my ice cream maker is old and didn’t churn well. Still tasty tho.

  14. User avatar danuta.bednar46 says:

I can’t believe I made ice cream at home! So easy and fun.

    1. 3 stars
Wow, ice cream at home? Isn’t it super hard though? I dunno if I’d have the patience.

Coconut milk is no good for ice cream! Real ice cream uses cream. Just saying.

  16. 3 stars
Anyone tried it with almond milk? I can’t consume coconut. Thoughts?

  17. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

Too much sugar for my taste. Next time I’ll cut it in half.

This was super easy to make! My kids loved it. Can’t believe it’s dairy-free!

    1. 3 stars
It was okay, but I thought it would be creamier. Maybe I did something wrong?

    2. 5 stars
I tried this recipe too! My kids are super picky and they couldn’t get enough. Thanks for sharing!

  19. User avatar harris.beahan81 says:

    2 stars
Super easy, but I forgot to follow the maker instructions and churned too long. It got weirdly thick. Lesson learned!

  20. User avatar Daqa Koth says:

I didn’t have sugar, so I used honey instead. Not sure if that was right?

  21. User avatar ernest.padberg36 says:

Yummy!!! I added some chocolate chips and it was heavenly!

  22. 4 stars
So simple it almost feels like cheating 😅. Mine was a little softer after 6 hours, but still delicious. Next time I’ll freeze longer.

  23. User avatar numbers.swaniawski95 says:

I’m not the best cook, but this was easy to follow. I made it and it’s bomb!

    1. 5 stars
Glad you found it easy! I’ve tried a lot of recipes and some can be so complicated. This one is a keeper! 🍦

  24. User avatar siobhan.deckow19 says:

    3 stars
It was okay, but I think it needs something else. Maybe chocolate chips?

  25. 4 stars
Took me forever to churn with my old machine. But worth it! So good!

    1. User avatar monty.donnelly1959 says:

I know what you mean! My machine is ancient too, but it’s so satisfying when it’s done. Glad you enjoyed it!

    2. User avatar steve_maga says:

Took forever? Isn’t ice cream supposed to be fast? IDK, maybe I’m missing something. What machine do you have?

  26. User avatar dominque.kautzer79 says:

    2 stars
Is this really ice cream? Looks more like a smoothie to me. :/

  27. User avatar hanna.hessel21 says:

    4 stars
I found the recipe super simple. But it was a bit too sweet for my taste.

  28. User avatar cherryl.witting97 says:

Made this last night and it turned out super creamy. I used full-fat coconut milk and didn’t skimp—worth it. Vanilla flavor is nice and smooth.

    1. User avatar ashton.senger1954 says:

      3 stars
Mine came out kinda icy, so I’m thinking I under-mixed the sugar or froze it too soon. Any tips?

    2. User avatar quincy.hackett30 says:

      5 stars
Glad it worked! Full-fat coconut milk really makes a big difference—creaminess for days 😄

  29. User avatar Demon King Piccolo says:

    3 stars
Coconut milk? but can I use almond milk instead? Not much coconut fan.

  30. User avatar Javier Jaskolski says:

    4 stars
This is too sweet for my taste… I think I’d use less sugar next time.
