Brownies

May 28, 2024

Few desserts spark as much joy as a warm, fudgy brownie. With their crackly tops, rich chocolate flavor, and dense, chewy centers, brownies have become a beloved staple in kitchens everywhere. Whether you’re baking a batch for a party, a potluck, or just a quiet evening treat, brownies never feel out of place. They’re simple to make, endlessly adaptable, and always comforting.

What makes a perfect brownie is a matter of opinion. Some prefer them cakey and light, others dense and almost gooey. The beauty of brownies is that there’s room for every texture and flavor profile. Adding chocolate chips, swirls of peanut butter, or a handful of chopped walnuts can take a basic recipe to the next level. For the more adventurous, flavors like espresso, sea salt, or chili powder bring exciting depth to the classic.

Brownies also adapt well to different diets and preferences. There are vegan versions made with flax eggs, gluten-free varieties with almond flour, and even high-protein brownies made with black beans or protein powder. No matter the version, they tend to satisfy that universal craving for something rich, sweet, and chocolatey.

Another reason brownies are so loved is their shareable nature. A square pan can yield a dozen servings in minutes, making them ideal for school lunches, bake sales, or last-minute desserts. They travel well, store easily, and taste just as good (if not better) the next day.

Brownies also leave room for creativity. You can layer them with cheesecake, top them with frosting, or crumble them into ice cream. They’re an open invitation to play in the kitchen without fear of getting it wrong. And even when the edges get too crisp or the center turns out slightly underbaked, chances are they’ll still be devoured with a smile.

In a world full of fancy pastries and over-the-top confections, the humble brownie stands tall. It’s a reminder that comfort and indulgence can be found in the simplest of bakes.

These use a lot of sugar. Isn’t that bad for health? I’m gonna try a low-sugar version next time.

Brownies don’t need eggs, right? They can be made with applesauce instead, I think.

  11. 3 stars
I dunno, they turned out kinda dry for me. Maybe I overbaked them? But the flavor was alright.

Why so much sugar? I used half and added some honey instead. Still good but a lil too sweet for my taste.

I agree, it has too much sugar! The honey is a good idea. Next time I might try it your way!

  27. 2 stars
I found the recipe quite confusing… what do you mean by ‘spreading evenly’? I just dumped it in the pan.

    1. User avatar Golden Chief Cylos says:

      3 stars
I don’t get what the big deal is with spreading. I just dumped it and they came out fine! Why is everyone so picky?

    2. User avatar Gormlaith says:

      4 stars
Spreading evenly is just about making sure the batter is flat in the pan! I used a spatula for that. It helps them bake nice, trust me!

Does anyone know if I can use gluten-free flour? My friend is celiac. Need to make these for her!

  31. User avatar lindsay.armstrong11 says:

Yummy! But does anyone else think the walnuts make them taste weird? 🤔 I prefer them without.

  32. 3 stars
I found these a bit too sweet for my taste. Maybe less sugar next time?

  33. User avatar kristopher.hills47 says:

    3 stars
Honestly, I made these and they came out too sweet for my taste. I’ll try using less sugar next time.

  34. 2 stars
These brownies are alright, but not as good as my grandma’s. She had a secret ingredient. LOL.

    1. 4 stars
Grandma’s secret ingredient? That’s the key! Maybe some cinnamon or a sprinkle of salt? Just trying to help! 😊
