Chicken Florentine

July 11, 2025

Chicken Florentine is one of those timeless dishes that feels both comforting and refined. At its core, it’s a simple chicken dish elevated by a creamy spinach sauce that’s full of flavor. It’s elegant enough to serve for dinner guests but easy enough to make on a busy weeknight.

The term “Florentine” refers to dishes made in the style of Florence, Italy, and it almost always involves spinach and a rich, creamy sauce. In the case of Chicken Florentine, tender chicken breasts are typically pan-seared until golden and juicy, then simmered in a silky sauce made with garlic, cream, parmesan cheese, and plenty of fresh spinach. It’s a winning combination that’s both hearty and fresh.

What makes this dish stand out is its balance. The richness of the cream and cheese is lightened by the earthy flavor of wilted spinach and a touch of lemon juice. It’s not heavy or overwhelming, it’s the kind of meal that feels indulgent without leaving you weighed down.

Chicken Florentine is also incredibly versatile. You can serve it over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes to soak up all that luxurious sauce, or keep it low-carb with a side of roasted veggies or cauliflower mash. You can even adapt it with different proteins like shrimp or salmon, though the classic chicken version remains a favorite.

It’s the kind of dish that comes together in one pan, making cleanup simple and the process less intimidating. Yet the result feels like something you’d order in a cozy Italian restaurant -warm, comforting, and deeply satisfying.

Whether you’re cooking to impress or just need a reliable dinner idea, Chicken Florentine delivers. It proves that a few good ingredients, when brought together with care, can turn a simple piece of chicken into something truly special.

Followed the recipe but it didn’t taste like I expected. More like a strange chicken soup. Not doing this again.

  2. User avatar Falmer Nightprowler says:

    5 stars
This recipe is amazing! The chicken came out so juicy and the sauce was to die for. Will definitely make this again!

I dunno if this is authentic or not but it was good. I mixed it with noodles because I thought that was what you were supposed to do.

Chicken Floren-whatsit? I just made it for dinner n the kids actually ate it all! Shocked! 😂

  5. 2 stars
Too much garlic for my taste, yuck. I wish you could do a less garlic version. The chicken was alright tho.

    1. User avatar eugenia.hamill says:

      4 stars
I can understand that! Garlic can be overwhelming sometimes. Maybe try cutting it down next time? Glad you liked the chicken though!

  6. User avatar Falmer Spellsword says:

    3 stars
I tried this but the cream made it too heavy. Next time, I’ll use less cream and maybe add mushrooms? Just a thought!

  7. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, 1/2 cup parmesan felt low. I ended up adding extra and it thickened nicer. Otherwise follow instructions and it’ll be fine.

    1. User avatar Noble Rodriguez says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—parmesan measurements can be low depending on how salty/thick you want the sauce. Glad it worked out when you bumped it up!

  8. User avatar roselia.ohara says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, mine didn’t turn out right. The sauce was too thick and I think I added too much cheese. 🙁

  9. 5 stars
This recipe is amazing! The chicken was so tender and the sauce is divine.

  10. User avatar herminia.crona8 says:

    4 stars
I don’t get the “Florentine” vibe—more like creamy garlic chicken to me 😂 But hey, tastes good.

  11. User avatar louis.schroeder2026 says:

    5 stars
This dish was fantastic! Loved the creamy sauce and the spinach added a nice touch. Will definitely make again!

  12. User avatar evonne.cremin10 says:

    3 stars
My sauce got a bit too thick, maybe I simmered too long. Still tasty though—chicken stayed juicy.

  13. User avatar Willian Abernathy says:

Why do you put cream in a chicken recipe? Sounds unhealthy!

  14. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    5 stars
Deliciousness! 👌 I totally love spinach and chicken together!!

  15. User avatar kesha.lebsack says:

Isn’t Florentine supposed to have cheese? This recipe is lacking in flavor! Disappointed.

    1. User avatar jeni.crooks says:

      4 stars
Cheese or no cheese, I liked it! You just gotta season it more, I think.

    2. 3 stars
I think it has cheese! The recipe says Parmesan. Maybe you missed it?

  16. User avatar Dawna Donnelly says:

    5 stars
The garlic step was fragrant immediately—love that. I served it over rice and it soaked up the sauce nicely. Will repeat.

  17. 5 stars
So good! I made it for my family and everyone loved it, even the kids!

    1. User avatar vallie.gislason1954 says:

      3 stars
Did you really get kids to eat spinach? I have my doubts. Maybe it’s not that great? 🤔

    2. 5 stars
That’s awesome to hear! It’s always great when a recipe pleases the whole family, especially the kiddos! 😊

  18. User avatar cassandra.grady55 says:

    3 stars
This is not “Florentine” unless you put flour in the sauce… or maybe that’s just me? 😬 Either way, it was yummy.

    1. User avatar Fenchurch says:

      5 stars
I get what you mean, but “Florentine” is more about the spinach/green element than flour in the sauce. 😄 Glad it still tasted great!

  19. User avatar Asha Parker DVM says:

    4 stars
Okay so I accidentally minced the garlic too early and it burned for like… 20 seconds. I still added cream and it recovered. Flavor was still good, just not as sweet.

  20. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure if “Chicken Florentine” needs this much cream. It’s tasty, but heavy. Next time I’ll use a bit less heavy cream or add a splash of lemon to brighten it.

    1. 5 stars
Yeah I totally get you—it’s delicious but that cream can make it feel super heavy. I’ve started using a bit less cream and letting the Parmesan do more of the thickening, and it’s way better.

  21. User avatar derek.stanton29 says:

    4 stars
This was so easy and fast! I even had the spinach already chopped (because I’m lazy lol). Next time I’m gonna add mushrooms for extra flavor.

  22. User avatar courtney.pouros61 says:

    4 stars
I ain’t never made no chicken like this before, but it was easy and tasted great!

I’m so glad you liked it! Chicken Florentine is one of my favorites too! 😍

    2. 3 stars
Tasted great? Really? I thought it was a bit too creamy for my taste. 🤔

  23. User avatar shenna.bechtelar1962 says:

    3 stars
Too much cheese for my taste, I might use less next time.

    1. User avatar emmitt.hermiston1981 says:

      2 stars
Less cheese? But cheese is the best part! Why would you do that?

    2. User avatar cleotilde.reilly1989 says:

      4 stars
I totally get that! Cheese can be a bit too much sometimes. I’m thinking of tryin it with feta for a change.

  24. 5 stars
This was a hit at the dinner party! Everybody loved it!

    1. User avatar Miss Stan Kertzmann says:

      5 stars
I’m glad to hear that! It’s one of my favorites too! Did you serve it with pasta or rice?

    2. User avatar delia.lind says:

      3 stars
Everyone loved it? That’s surprising, I thought it would be too creamy! Did you tweak the recipe or something?

  25. User avatar blair.armstrong84 says:

    3 stars
It turned out kinda bland. I think it needs more spices or something.

  26. User avatar guillermo.smitham says:

    5 stars
Quick, easy, and delicious! Will make again! 🙂

    1. 5 stars
I love how simple this is! I’m definitely trying it this weekend! 🙂

    2. 3 stars
Seems too easy… can it really taste that good? What if the chicken dries out?

  27. User avatar Pablo Hodkiewicz says:

    4 stars
Really easy recipe! I added some sun-dried tomatoes for extra flavor. Will make again!

  28. User avatar marylouise.brekke38 says:

    4 stars
Really tasty, but 5-7 min each side felt a bit fast for my thick breasts. I had to cook a little longer so they were fully done. Sauce is great though.

  29. User avatar tyson.stracke says:

    3 stars
Not bad. But the Parmesan made it a little salty. Next time I’ll use less salt in step 2 and maybe half the cheese.

    1. User avatar Winnie Goyette says:

      5 stars
Good catch! Parmesan can be pretty salty—using half the cheese and dialing back salt in step 2 usually fixes it without messing up the flavor too much.

    2. User avatar toby.cronin98 says:

      4 stars
Hmm I didn’t think it’d be that salty. I guess some Parm is saltier than others? Next time I’ll try using less salt too—maybe even skip the salt before cooking the chicken.

  30. User avatar blair.deckow40 says:

    3 stars
The timing feels off. 5-7 minutes per side for chicken breasts can be too long or too short depending on thickness. I wish it said to check internal temp.

    1. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—5-7 minutes per side is so variable. A thermometer would save so many overcooked breasts. I usually pull mine around 165°F and it turns out great.

  31. User avatar burl.green52 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have fresh spinach so I used frozen—still fine but I had to squeeze it dry or the sauce tasted watery. Lesson learned.

    1. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—frozen spinach can be a lifesaver, but squeezing out the excess water is key. Glad you got it right in the end!

  32. User avatar Spriggan Matron says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but 5-7 minutes per side felt long for my thinner breasts. I ended up with slightly dry chicken. Sauce was great, so I’d just watch doneness closer.

  33. User avatar Effrafax of Wug says:

    2 stars
1 minute garlic is not enough maybe? Mine was super strong and I didn’t love it. I’ll sauté longer gently next time.

  34. User avatar emely.white22 says:

    5 stars
This tastes like restaurant food. I’m kinda shocked it’s so simple. The Parmesan melting step is key.

    1. User avatar digna.prosacco22 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—when the Parmesan actually melts into the cream, the whole dish turns silky. I did the simmer a little longer and it was even better.

    2. 4 stars
Wait, Parmesan melting is the key? I always just mix it in at the end—maybe that’s why my sauce feels grainy sometimes. Gonna try this.

  35. User avatar vivian.rath1993 says:

    5 stars
This is the best Chicken Florentine I’ve ever made! The creaminess is just perfect. 5 stars!

  36. User avatar warren.runte19 says:

    3 stars
Just okay. I felt like it was missing something… maybe herbs? Who knows.

  37. User avatar Captain Ginyu says:

    4 stars
I love the idea but mine came out a little bland until I added more pepper and a pinch of garlic powder. Still tasty though—will tweak next time.

  38. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

    5 stars
Wow! Best chicken recipe I’ve ever made! So easy and delicious.

  39. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    5 stars
This is one of those ‘looks fancy, is easy’ meals. I added some mushrooms because I had them, and it tasted even better. Would absolutely make again.

  40. User avatar Shadout Mapes says:

    4 stars
Delicious recipe but I used frozen spinach and it turned out fine! Who cares, right?

  41. 4 stars
Chicken Florentine is supposed to be fancy right? This tasted like something my grandma would make, but better. I’m actually proud I cooked it.

  42. User avatar Sandra Blick says:

    2 stars
Meh. Mine tasted kinda bland even with salt/pepper. I think it needed more Parmesan or garlic, but the cream base is still good.

  43. User avatar johnson.bergstrom says:

    3 stars
It was ok. I’ve had better chicken dishes at restaurants. Too much cream maybe.

    1. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

      4 stars
I think it’s just the taste, some people love cream, others not so much. But at home you can modify, right? Maybe less cream next time?

  44. User avatar deloris.lind1981 says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—so rich and comforting. The garlic step smelled amazing and the sauce thickened up nicely with the Parmesan.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! That garlic-once-it’s-fragrant smell is everything. I also love that it thickens up right from the Parmesan—makes it feel restaurant-y. 😋

  45. User avatar Tristan Pacocha says:

    2 stars
I followed it exactly and it came out bland. Like… I added extra black pepper and still felt like something was missing. Maybe garlic needed longer? Not sure.

  46. 5 stars
Made this tonight and it was super comforting. The garlic + cream sauce clings to the chicken perfectly, and the spinach just melts in. I served it over rice—spot on.

  47. User avatar wendie.vonrueden36 says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but I think next time I’ll add a squeeze of lemon at the end. The flavor is rich (in a good way) yet a tiny bit flat without brightness.

  48. 3 stars
The sauce separated a bit for me even though I simmered gently. Maybe my cream was too cold? Tasted good but looked not great.

  49. User avatar verlie.deckow says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about 2-3 minutes for the spinach, but it worked. I just kept stirring and it wilted fast.

  50. 2 stars
Won’t make this again, it was way too rich for my taste. And hard to make!

  51. User avatar Shaddam Corrino IV says:

    4 stars
I love chicken and spinach! This was a nice combo but I added some tomatoes for extra flavor. Yum!

  52. User avatar ruthann.buckridge2005 says:

    2 stars
I tried it but my family said it was ‘too creamy’ and they wanted a tomato sauce instead 😅. For my taste it’s still a solid dish though.

  53. User avatar Peregrin Took says:

    5 stars
This is the kind of meal that makes the kitchen smell expensive. My picky kid ate it without complaining (which is rare).

  54. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about cooking time—5-7 minutes per side depends a lot on thickness. Mine took longer, but once I adjusted, it turned out fine.

    1. 5 stars
Yeah, I agree—thickness changes everything. Mine were thin so 5-7 min was perfect, but if they’re bigger you’ll definitely need more. Glad it worked out for you!

    2. 3 stars
I tried this and it was way longer than 5-7 per side. I kept thinking it was “golden” but the middle was still raw 😅. Maybe my pan was too hot or the chicken was thicker. Still tasted good once I fixed it.

  55. User avatar alexis.kerluke5 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I think 5-7 minutes per side is a little optimistic depending on thickness. Mine took closer to 8-9 minutes to be fully cooked. Sauce was great though—thickened well after the Parmesan.

    1. User avatar yellowjacket says:

      5 stars
Totally agree on timing—thickness makes a huge difference. I’ve had the same issue where 5–7 min/side leaves the middle a bit under. Glad the sauce worked for you though; the Parm thickening is the best part!

  56. User avatar garret.thiel99 says:

    1 star
Chicken florentine? I thought it was just a fancy name! What’s Florentine anyway?

  57. User avatar Corazon Quitzon says:

    2 stars
I tried it but my skillet was too hot and the chicken browned before it was cooked. Also I used dried spinach once and never again 😅

  58. User avatar Hotblack Desiato says:

    4 stars
My sauce got thick fast, like almost too thick. I think my heat was higher than medium-high and I didn’t add enough cream at once—still delicious though.

  59. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    4 stars
Tasty but I found it a bit rich. Next time I’ll maybe use half-and-half or add a squeeze of lemon at the end to brighten it up.

  60. User avatar lourdes.bashirian66 says:

    3 stars
I tried it but the chicken was a bit dry, maybe I cooked it too long? Not sure if I’ll make again.

    1. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

      4 stars
I think it might’ve been the cooking time for sure. Try reducing it next time! It really helps keep the chicken juicy.

    2. User avatar Ivan Oder says:

      3 stars
Dry chicken? I dunno, mine turned out perfectly. Maybe different heat settings?

  61. User avatar Andy Friese says:

    4 stars
Step 2 took way longer for my chicken (thicker pieces). I had to cook closer to 10 minutes per side, but the final dish was worth it.

  62. User avatar flavia.boehm72 says:

    3 stars
Tried it with frozen spinach because I didn’t have fresh. It was fine but watered down a little. Squeezing the spinach first would’ve helped.

    1. User avatar steve_maga says:

      5 stars
Good call—frozen spinach definitely can be wetter. Squeezing it out first makes a huge difference. Glad it still tasted fine!

    2. 4 stars
Hmm watered down? Maybe you didn’t simmer long enough to reduce the cream. Also frozen spinach is usually already cooked, so it can get mushy fast—I’d thaw/drain and maybe add it at the end.

  63. User avatar graham.waelchi2018 says:

    4 stars
Could I add mushrooms? Like sauté them before the garlic? Anyone tried that?

  64. User avatar jay.kris51 says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps exactly and mine came out kind of thick immediately—maybe my cream heated too fast? Still delicious though. Would recommend lowering the heat after adding cream.

  65. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    2 stars
I used pre-washed spinach and somehow it tasted watery… maybe I packed it too tightly? Sauce didn’t thicken as much. Still edible, just not wow.

  66. User avatar katelyn.ledner says:

    4 stars
Way too much sauce for my liking. I ended up using the extra cream/parm as pasta sauce for leftovers. Still good, just adjust if you like it drier.

  67. User avatar Juana Bea says:

    5 stars
Honestly? 10/10. The chicken stayed juicy and the sauce hugged every bite. My family cleaned the skillet. Don’t change a thing.

    1. User avatar verdell.labadie says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Exactly how I like it—juicy chicken and that creamy garlic-spinach sauce. I served mine over rice and it was gone fast.

    2. User avatar Mitchell Erdman says:

      4 stars
I tried it but my sauce didn’t thicken—maybe I didn’t simmer long enough? Still tasted good though. Chicken was tender.

  68. User avatar tien.hoeger says:

    3 stars
Not bad! But I wish the instructions said whether to cover the skillet when wilting the spinach. Mine splattered a bit.

    1. User avatar osvaldo.koepp71 says:

      4 stars
Totally hear you—when I make it I usually *don’t* fully cover the skillet, just stir a couple times so the spinach wilts without steaming too much. Mine still splatters a little with the cream though, so lowering heat to medium helps.

  69. User avatar gale.volkman2005 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—super creamy and the spinach really shines. I used a little extra Parmesan and it was perfect. The timing for the chicken worked great too.

    1. User avatar rhonda.mertz1974 says:

      5 stars
Awesome! Love when the Parmesan thickens it up just right—extra cheese is always the move 😄 Glad the chicken timing worked out too.

  70. 2 stars
idk why but mine split 😭 maybe the parmesan didn’t melt right. Still ate it but it was kinda grainy.
