Chicken fajitas are a flavorful, sizzling dish that brings together tender marinated chicken, sautéed bell peppers, and onions, all served with warm tortillas and your favorite toppings. This Tex-Mex classic is perfect for casual family dinners, weeknight meals, or even a festive gathering. It’s quick to prepare, full of bold flavors, and always a crowd-pleaser.
To make chicken fajitas, start by marinating thinly sliced chicken breasts in a mix of lime juice, olive oil, garlic, cumin, chili powder, paprika, and a bit of salt and pepper. The marinade infuses the chicken with a zesty, smoky flavor that enhances the natural tenderness of the meat. After marinating for at least 30 minutes, the chicken is quickly cooked in a hot skillet until golden brown and juicy.
While the chicken cooks, bell peppers and onions are sautéed until they’re tender and slightly caramelized, adding sweetness and texture to the dish. The peppers provide a burst of color and freshness that balances the richness of the chicken. A squeeze of lime juice over the cooked vegetables brightens up the dish and adds a touch of acidity.
Once everything is cooked, assemble the fajitas by serving the chicken and veggies with soft flour tortillas. You can add your favorite toppings like guacamole, sour cream, salsa, shredded cheese, and fresh cilantro. For extra heat, a few slices of jalapeño or a drizzle of hot sauce can be added.
Chicken fajitas are incredibly versatile. You can easily adjust the heat level to your liking by modifying the spice in the marinade or adding more toppings. For a lighter version, you can swap flour tortillas for corn tortillas or even serve the fajita filling in a lettuce wrap.
This dish is perfect for serving family-style, letting everyone customize their fajitas to their own taste. Whether enjoyed on a busy weeknight or at a fun gathering, chicken fajitas are always a hit with their irresistible combination of smoky, zesty flavors and fresh toppings.

This recipe was super easy and turned out delicious! My family loved it!
These fajitas are mid. Like, good for a weekday, but nothing special. Also I accidentally used lemon instead of lime and it still tasted fine.
Mid is fair lol—mine usually comes out pretty tasty but I have to add extra stuff (like extra chili powder or a squeeze of fresh lime) to make it pop. Still, weekday win for sure.
Lemon instead of lime?? I mean… acidic is acidic 😅 I did that once with tacos and didn’t notice. For fajitas though, I’d crank the seasoning or do a quick cilantro-lime finish. But your timing looks solid!
I followed the recipe but it didn’t taste like my mom’s. Maybe she had a secret ingredient.
Maybe try adding some extra spices or a pinch of sugar? That’s what my mom does!
No offense, but can’t you just ask her for the secret? Moms usually love sharing their tricks!
Yum! Such a quick meal. I made it in like 30 mins. Best recipe ever!
I followed it pretty much exactly, but my chicken felt a touch dry. Maybe I overcooked it, because I went closer to 8-9 minutes. Still tasty though.
These fajitas were amazing! So flavorful and easy to make. My kids loved them too!
Not bad at all! The peppers were nice and tender and the tortillas warmed up great. I’d recommend letting the chicken marinate longer if you have time.
They were okay, but I thought they could use more flavor. Maybe add more chili powder?
These fajitas were a hit! The marinade was so flavorful and the chicken was juicy. Totally recommend!
I don’t know about those spices. What if I don’t have one? Can I just use salt?
Fajitas!!! Yummy 😋
These are ok but I think they could use some more kick. Maybe try jalapenos?
I totally agree! Some jalapenos would add a nice spicy touch. Thanks for the tip!
Yum! I just used what I had in fridge and it worked! Chicken, bell-peppers and some cheese. Super easy!
I don’t understand why you use flour tortillas. Corn is better for fajitas?! But the chicken was okay.
These fajitas were amazing! So easy to make and full of flavor. Will definitely make again.
I agree, these are the best fajitas ever! I made them last night and my family loved them. Thanks for sharing!
They were good, but I found them a bit too spicy. Next time I might skip the chili powder.
Why do you have lime in there? Like, isn’t that just a weird add-on? 🤔
I don’t think fajitas should have lime juice in them… couldn’t taste it anyway.
Tortillas are not for me, I used lettuce leaves instead. Still yum. 😄
This is delicious and super easy. I’ll add mushrooms next time because why not? Also the lime makes it taste fresh, not bland.
Yes!! The lime really does brighten it up—mine gets kinda bland without it. Mushrooms sound awesome too, will totally try that next time.
This is not how you make real fajitas! You gotta grill them for that smokey flavor.
I mean, grilling is nice and all, but you can still make tasty fajitas in a skillet! This looks really good.
Who needs grilling? This is how I’ve always made em and my fam loves them! Smoked flavor ain’t all that.
Yum!
I tried this recipe last night and it was fantastic! So much flavor! Thanks for sharing!
Fajitas! Yum! I just used whatever peppers I had in the fridge. 🍴
I dunno, is it really that easy? What if the peppers are too soft? 🤔
That sounds delicious! I love using different peppers. It adds such a nice flavor! 🌶️
Not bad, but I think it needed more spices. I ended up adding some jalapeños for heat.
I don’t know, if I wanted to spin my wheels all day, I could just eat plain chicken.
Didn’t work for me. Chicken was dry and the peppers were too crunchy!
I’m sorry to hear that! Maybe try cooking the chicken for less time next time? It can dry out if overcooked.
These were the best fajitas I’ve ever made! Super easy and tasted amazing.
I followed the recipe exactly, but it turned out way too spicy for my kids. Maybe needs less chili powder.
I don’t have a large bowl so I just mixed the marinade right in a ziplock with the chicken. It coated fine. Quick dinner idea, 10/10
This is a basic recipe but it’s really good for a quick dinner. Sometimes I use whatever veggies I have left in the fridge.
Quick and yum! I added some jalapeños for a kick. Highly recommend!
