BBQ Ranch Chicken

May 27, 2026

BBQ Ranch Chicken is the ultimate combination of tangy, smoky BBQ sauce and creamy, zesty ranch dressing. This easy-to-make dish offers a burst of flavor with minimal effort, making it the perfect choice for a quick weeknight dinner or a casual weekend meal. Whether baked, grilled, or pan-seared, BBQ Ranch Chicken delivers tender, juicy chicken with a delicious sauce that’s irresistible.

The key to this dish lies in the sauce. BBQ sauce brings a rich, smoky flavor with a hint of sweetness, while ranch dressing adds a creamy, herby finish that complements the tangy BBQ perfectly. The chicken itself can be boneless breasts, thighs, or even chicken wings, all of which soak up the bold sauce for an unforgettable taste.

To make this dish, start by seasoning the chicken with a bit of salt, pepper, and any additional spices you like. Then, cook the chicken until it’s golden brown and fully cooked through, either in a hot skillet, on the grill, or in the oven. Once the chicken is cooked, generously coat it with a mix of BBQ sauce and ranch dressing, allowing the flavors to meld together. If you’re feeling extra indulgent, top the chicken with shredded cheese and bake it until melted and bubbly.

BBQ Ranch Chicken is incredibly versatile and can be served in many ways. Pair it with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad for a balanced meal. You can also serve it in a wrap, on a sandwich, or with a side of fries for a more casual bite.

This dish is a crowd-pleaser that’s full of flavor, quick to prepare, and perfect for feeding a hungry family or guests. BBQ Ranch Chicken is sure to become a new favorite in your recipe rotation.

BBQ Ranch Chicken is the ultimate combination of tangy, smoky BBQ sauce and creamy, zesty ranch dressing.
Servings 4 people
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 40 minutes
Total Time 55 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 bag Lay’s BBQ potato chips family-size
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4-6 chicken breasts large, boneless
  • 1 tablespoon Lawry’s seasoned salt
  • 1 dry ranch salad dressing/dip mix

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • In a 13×9″ baking dish, melt butter in the dish while prepping the chip mix.
  • Crush the entire bag of BBQ potato chips (using a rolling pin works well).
  • Add seasoned salt and dry ranch mix to the bag of crushed chips, then shake well to mix everything together.
  • Wash each chicken breast under cold water, trimming any excess fat.
  • Shake each chicken breast in the chip bag to coat, then lay it in the glass dish with melted butter.
  • Repeat with each chicken breast.
  • After coating all breasts, pour the leftover chips and seasoning from the bag over the top of the chicken, spreading it out to cover.
  • Bake for 40 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and scrape the burnt chips on top to the side.
  • Serve the chicken breasts. The chicken will be juicy, and the leftover chips, burnt or not, can be mixed with mashed potatoes for added flavor.

I’m glad it turned out so well for you! I love the idea of using BBQ chips. I might try this recipe with some sweet potato chips for a twist.

I dunno, sounds kinda strange to put chips on chicken. Wouldn’t they just get soggy? But if it works for you, cool, I guess.

  2. 3 stars
I dunno… baking chicken with chips sounds weird. But I guess it works? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar Fairy Queen says:

      2 stars
Seems a bit odd to me, fried chicken with chips? Never heard of that! I don’t know if it’ll taste good, but I guess everyone has their own style. 🤔

    2. User avatar Hal Lemke says:

      5 stars
I was skeptical too at first, but trust me, this dish is a game changer! The chips add a nice crunch and flavor. Give it a shot! 😋

  3. 2 stars
I didn’t have ranch dressing, so I just used Italian. It was okay, but not what I expected.

    1. 4 stars
I think using Italian dressing might not give that tangy flavor ranch does. But it’s cool you tried something different! 🍽️

    2. User avatar shakira.herman49 says:

      2 stars
Honestly, ranch is kinda essential for this dish! Italian dressing just ain’t the same. 😕

I get what you mean! The chips can get a bit soggy if they’re not crisped before baking. Maybe try baking them a bit first? I love using chips in recipes though, adds a nice crunch! 🍗

I thought the same at first, but it’s actually really good! The chips give it a nice crunch. You should give it a shot!

Not the best. The chips got too burnt and the flavor was way too salty for my taste. 3 stars only.

I totally get what you mean about the chips getting burnt. Maybe try lowering the temp next time? I thought it tasted great though!

Okay, but like… can you really call it BBQ if it’s just chips on chicken? Seems like a gimmick to me. But hey, if it works for you.

Chicken was good, but the chips got burnt like crazy! Next time I won’t bake them as long.

Yeah, I had the same issue! They burned like crazy for me too. Maybe they should bake for less time or at a lower temp. Glad the chicken turned out good though!

Too much butter for me. I like healthy recipes, this one not so much.

I’m not sure about using potato chips. Sounds weird.

Not sure if I trust this recipe, chips on meat doesn’t sound right. But I guess some people like it.
