Bacon-Wrapped Sweet Potato Bites

April 19, 2024

Some snacks are made for quiet nights in, others for festive gatherings. Bacon-wrapped sweet potato bites fall into the latter category, delivering just the right mix of sweet and savory in one satisfying bite. They’re the kind of appetizer that disappears fast, leaving behind only the faint scent of crispy bacon and roasted sweetness.

These little bites start with chunks of sweet potato, a vegetable known for its creamy texture and natural sugars. When wrapped in bacon and baked until golden, the combination creates a flavor contrast that’s hard to resist. The sweetness from the potato balances perfectly with the salty richness of bacon, making this pairing a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

What sets bacon-wrapped sweet potato bites apart from other appetizers is their versatility. They can be served as a warm appetizer during a dinner party, a snack during a casual game night, or even as a fun twist at a holiday gathering. Some people like to brush them with maple syrup or sprinkle a little chili powder before baking for an extra layer of flavor, while others keep it simple and let the ingredients speak for themselves.

Beyond their flavor, these bites are visually appealing. The edges of the bacon crisp up beautifully, while the orange of the sweet potato adds a warm, inviting color to any spread. They’re easy to grab and even easier to love, making them ideal finger food for entertaining.

What’s also great about them is how they bring comfort and indulgence together in a small package. They feel familiar, like something from a family kitchen, yet they also carry just enough sophistication to make them suitable for more formal occasions.

Whether you’re planning a potluck, a cocktail hour, or just want a treat that feels special, bacon-wrapped sweet potato bites are a simple but memorable choice. They’re proof that sometimes, the best dishes come from the simplest pairings.

Really? I found them too sweet. Maybe I put too much sugar? 🤔

    2. 5 stars
I can’t wait to try this! My kids love bacon! Thanks for the recipe!

These came out dangerously good—crispy bacon with sweet potato that actually tastes caramel-y. I sprinkled a little extra cinnamon at the end and it was perfect.

I don’t know about this. Bacon and sweet potatoes together? Sounds weird to me.

  4. User avatar w00d_ch0p says:

Pretty solid idea. Mine took closer to 35 minutes for the bacon to fully crisp, but the flavor was still great. Next time I’ll cut the cubes a bit smaller.

Good call on the cook time—bacon thickness really changes everything. Cutting smaller cubes totally makes sense too so they cook through before the bacon over-crisps.

  5. 5 stars
These were AMAZING! I never thought sweet potatoes could be so good with bacon. Definitely a new favorite!

Disaster! The bacon didn’t crisp up for me at all…

    1. User avatar arlie.thompson says:

      2 stars
Disaster? C’mon, it’s an easy recipe! Maybe you just need to bake ’em longer.

    2. User avatar lynna.weimann44 says:

I had the same problem! Maybe try broiling them at the end to get them crispy? Just a thought!

  7. User avatar Super Saiyan Goten says:

So simple, yet so delicious! Everyone loved them at the gathering! 😋

  8. User avatar Marylouise Robel says:

Not bad, but mine were a little too salty even with 1/4 tsp salt. Also I ran out of toothpicks and used skewers and they kinda slid—still ate them though.

    1. 4 stars
Good to know about the salt—mine came out fine with 1/4 tsp, but I can see it varying depending on the bacon. Skewers sliding sounds annoying though. Next time maybe rotate them tighter or do fewer bites per skewer.

    2. User avatar Falmer Archer says:

      5 stars
Huh, I’d cut salt even more. Bacon is already salty so 1/4 tsp might be too much for some kinds. Also toothpicks vs skewers… yeah skewers would make them wobble. Still sounds tasty!

  9. User avatar kris.ward1962 says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make! I didn’t have paprika, so I used chili powder instead. Still tasted fantastic. Will definitely make them again!

  10. User avatar Ryan Shenlong says:

    4 stars
I’m no chef but even I could make these. Super easy and delicious!

  11. 5 stars
My kids loved these! I think it’s because they get to eat bacon without noticing the sweet potatoes haha. Easy snack!

  12. 5 stars
I made these for a party and they disappeared fast. The toothpicks are clutch, and dipping into the spice mix actually makes a noticeable difference. Would 100% make again.

  13. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

I have only made it once but it turned out really good. Can I freeze the leftovers?

  14. User avatar fredricka.will says:

I tried these last night but they didn’t come out right. The bacon was still chewy and the potatoes were hard. Maybe I did something wrong?

  15. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    5 stars
So easy and great for parties. The toothpicks are a genius touch—everyone just grabs and goes. Texture was perfect for me.

    1. User avatar asuncion.kunze96 says:

Yes! The toothpicks make it feel instantly party-ready. I tried these last weekend and they disappeared fast—sweet + salty combo is perfect.

  18. User avatar chang.weimann says:

This is too many steps for a simple snack. Could just bake sweet potatoes with no bacon at all and it’s healthy. Bakin’ is easy!

  19. User avatar kala.ernser19 says:

    4 stars
I thought it would be too sweet, but it balanced out. Next time I’ll add a pinch of chili flakes for a little kick.

  20. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    2 stars
I’m not sure about the seasoning, paprika? Really? But I will give it a try!

  21. User avatar Telma Okuneva says:

    4 stars
I followed the recipe pretty much exactly and they were tasty, but the sugar coating stuck to the toothpicks more than I thought. Still ate them all tho lol.

  22. User avatar Spider Guardian says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, though mine took closer to 35 minutes to really crisp the bacon. Still, the flavor blend (cinnamon + brown sugar + paprika) is legit.

  23. 5 stars
Yum! Sweet and salty goodness! I could eat these every day.

  24. User avatar brenton.murazik55 says:

I don’t know about this recipe. Bacon and sweet potatoes? Seems odd to me. Tried it but wasn’t impressed.

  25. User avatar hulda.lockman48 says:

I tried this recipe but forgot the sugar and it turned out fine. Also, I didn’t use toothpicks, just left them unwrapped. Kinda messy, but still edible!

  26. 4 stars
Bacon is the best ingredient. These bites are gonna be a hit at my party! Can’t wait!

    1. User avatar virgil.johnston says:

  28. 5 stars
These were so good! The sweetness from the potatoes with the saltiness of the bacon was a big hit at our party. Everyone was asking for the recipe!

    1. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

      5 stars
I’m glad to hear you loved them! I want to try making these for the holidays, they sound perfect! 😊

  29. User avatar chris.pollich31 says:

    3 stars
Really simple recipe! But my bacon got burnt… I’m not good with the oven, lol.

  30. 3 stars
I’ve made something like this before and the oven temp is fine, but 25-30 min seems short for thicker cubes. I’d cut smaller pieces.

  31. User avatar vernon.collier says:

    4 stars
Mmm, I like sweet potatoes. But bacon? A bit too much for my diet, but still yum!

    1. User avatar marilee.pollich37 says:

      2 stars
Why ruin sweet potatoes with bacon? They are good by themselves! Just add some salt and pepper!

    2. User avatar justine.okuneva57 says:

      4 stars
I totally get you! Bacon can be a lot, but you could always leave it out and just roast the sweet potatoes. They’re delish on their own!

  32. User avatar delta.nitzsche says:

    2 stars
I don’t think sweet potatoes and bacon go together. The flavors are just weird. I gave it a shot but won’t make it again.

  33. User avatar alberto.collins9 says:

    2 stars
I don’t see how bacon makes sweet potatoes better?

  34. User avatar Ali Gaither says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about the bacon-to-sweet ratio. But the cinnamon and paprika really help. I will say I’d cut the cubes smaller next time so everything crisps evenly.

  35. 4 stars
I was skeptical about dipping the bites in the spice mix, but it worked! The seasoning clung nicely and didn’t burn too much at 400°F.

  36. User avatar shane.moore14 says:

    5 stars
These are a hit at every party! Absolutely love the combo of sweet and savory.

    1. User avatar monty.sanford39 says:

      2 stars
I’m not a fan of sweet and savory together. Sounds weird to me. 😕

    2. User avatar mee.feil2013 says:

      5 stars
I made them for my last party too, and they were gone in minutes! So good!! 😍

  37. 3 stars
Not bad, but I think I used too much sugar. Next time I’ll cut back.

  38. User avatar norman.davis1972 says:

    4 stars
Very easy to make and everyone loved them at the party. I might add some cheese next time though for extra flavor!

  39. User avatar cinderella.mcclure says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps to a T, but my bacon didn’t get crispy. Maybe my oven doesn’t work right? Kinda sad.

    1. User avatar jodie.swaniawski says:

      4 stars
Maybe try a higher temp or cook them longer? I love these bites! Don’t give up!

  40. User avatar agustin.bode46 says:

    2 stars
I kinda messed up—used white sugar instead of brown sugar and forgot the salt, lol. Still tasted good, but not the same “warm” flavor.

    1. User avatar alonzo.lockman88 says:

      4 stars
Honestly that still sounds tasty—bacon + sweet potato is hard to mess up. If you forgot the salt though, that “warm” vibe probably would’ve been less rounded. Next time, brown sugar makes a big difference for that caramel depth!
