Valentine’s Day Shrimp

January 25, 2024

Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion for a meal that’s both indulgent and easy to prepare, and there’s no better way to impress than with a dish like Valentine’s Day shrimp. This dish brings together succulent shrimp and a flavorful sauce, creating a romantic and memorable dinner that’s perfect for celebrating love.

Start by choosing large, fresh shrimp that are sweet and tender. The key to great shrimp is not overcooking them, as they cook quickly and can become tough if left too long. A simple seasoning of salt, pepper, and garlic works wonders, but you can elevate the flavor with a squeeze of lemon, a dash of paprika, or a pinch of red pepper flakes for a subtle heat.

For the sauce, a garlic butter base is a luxurious choice. Melt butter in a pan and sauté minced garlic until fragrant, then add a splash of white wine, lemon juice, and a touch of fresh herbs like parsley or thyme. For a touch of sweetness, you could even add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup to balance the richness of the butter. Allow the sauce to simmer gently while the shrimp cook, letting the flavors meld together.

Once the shrimp are added to the sauce, cook them just until they turn pink and opaque, which usually takes 2-3 minutes per side. This keeps them juicy and tender, perfect for serving with a side of pasta, rice, or a fresh salad.

To make it extra special, garnish the shrimp with more fresh herbs, a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, or even a few red pepper flakes for a pop of color and flavor. Pair it with a glass of crisp white wine or champagne, and you’ve got a romantic dinner that’s both elegant and easy.

Whether you’re cooking for a loved one or enjoying a solo Valentine’s Day, this shrimp dish is the perfect way to celebrate. It’s full of flavor, light yet satisfying, and sure to make the evening feel extra special.

Tried it but my sauce kinda split? I’m not sure if I overheated the pan or used old shrimp. Flavor is still good, just not as silky.

Five stars! Best dish I’ve made in a while. Thanks for sharing!

Made this for my date night and it was surprisingly fancy. The garlic + lemon combo is perfect, and the shrimp cooked up just right—pink and juicy. Will definitely repeat.

  5. User avatar elmer.waelchi says:

    3 stars
I’m not a huge fan of cooking shrimp in wine—felt a bit too tangy for me. Maybe I’ll reduce the lemon next time.

  6. User avatar lashandra.homenick1952 says:

    4 stars
Okay, I’m skeptical about cooking shrimp in the same pan with the sauce… but wow, it worked. The shrimp stayed tender and the sauce clung nicely.

  7. User avatar Jeanmarie Daugherty says:

Super quick recipe! Had it ready in no time. Great way to impress someone without much effort.

Looks good but uh… is that shrimp really okay to eat? Heard some bad things about shrimp these days.

    2. User avatar geoWizard says:

I totally agree! This dish is super easy and fancy. Can’t wait to make it for my date night!

This recipe is kinda romantic, not gonna lie. Garlic, wine, lemon… it tastes like a date night even when you’re in sweatpants.

    1. User avatar jimmy.hegmann1979 says:

      5 stars
Aww I get the vibe 😄 Garlic + wine + lemon is definitely “date night” food. I made this once and it tasted fancy even though I rushed it in sweatpants too. Great pick!

  9. 5 stars
This shrimp recipe was a hit! So easy and flavorful. I added a bit of extra garlic because I love it. 5/5!

    1. User avatar verda.macgyver1964 says:

      3 stars
This recipe looks good and all, but do shrimp really need that much garlic? Seems a bit much…

    2. User avatar vada.lynch38 says:

      5 stars
I’m glad it was a hit for you! Extra garlic sounds amazing! 🌟

  10. 2 stars
This is a nice quick dish, but white wine? What a waste. You could use water.

    1. User avatar lisabeth.emmerich says:

      5 stars
I think the white wine adds a nice flavor. Water would just make it bland!

  11. User avatar hwa.donnelly says:

    4 stars
Simple and quick to make! A hit with the kids too. Will repeat!

  12. User avatar Emily Saunders says:

    2 stars
I followed it exactly and my shrimp came out rubbery 😭 probably I cooked too long per side. Otherwise flavors were good.

  13. User avatar greg.krajcik49 says:

    4 stars
I don’t understand the wine part. Can I just use water? 🤷‍♂️

  14. User avatar rusty.moore says:

    4 stars
Delicious and very romantic. But where’s the spicy love in this recipe? Needs more heat for my taste.

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! A little more spice would make it even better. Maybe add some cayenne next time? 🦐❤️

  15. User avatar Mr. Prosser says:

    2 stars
Meh. I was expecting more flavor. It was just shrimp swimming in sauce. Disappointing.

    1. User avatar leoma.maggio3 says:

      4 stars
I think it’s all about how you season the shrimp. Maybe try adding more herbs or spices next time! ❤️

    2. User avatar shanice.kuhn70 says:

      2 stars
Dude, it’s shrimp in sauce. What were you expecting? Just add some hot sauce if you want it spicier!

  16. 2 stars
I used frozen shrimp and maybe my pan was too hot—mine turned rubbery. Also, 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes felt like a lot for my taste. Flavor was there though, just not the texture.

  17. 5 stars
This recipe is literally the best! Made it for Valentine’s and my date was super impressed!

  18. User avatar levi.ward25 says:

    4 stars
Easy peasy! Made this for my kids and they gobbled it up. I added a bit of extra garlic because we love it! Yum!!

This is not what I expected! I thought it was gonna be like from a fancy restaurant. But my shrimp turned out mushy. 2/5.

  21. 2 stars
Tried it but my shrimp turned out rubbery. Did I cook them too long? Help!

  22. 2 stars
This was pretty easy to throw together, but I don’t think my shrimp turned out pink enough… are they supposed to be? 🤔

  23. User avatar Joetta Schmeler says:

    5 stars
Made this for Valentine’s dinner and it was shockingly fancy for how fast it is. The lemon + wine sauce is perfect and the garlic smell is everything. ❤️

  24. 5 stars
I followed it exactly and it tasted restaurant-y. I served it over pasta and it was gone immediately. Would absolutely make again.

    1. User avatar Kathleen Cruickshank says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome—“restaurant-y” is the best compliment. The pasta pairing makes total sense too. Definitely trying this again!

  25. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    5 stars
Absolutely fantastic! I served it with pasta and it was romantic. <3

  26. User avatar georgette.bogan says:

    3 stars
It turned out too salty for my taste, but the shrimp cooked nicely. I wonder if I can use less salt next time?

    1. User avatar Rickey Deckow says:

      4 stars
Definitely use less salt next time! You can always add more, but you can’t take it out. Glad the shrimp cooked well, though!

  27. User avatar wellRespected says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, it was okay but I felt like something was missing. Maybe add some butter next time?

    1. User avatar stewart.walsh1991 says:

      5 stars
I agree, adding butter can really enhance the flavor! It’s a great idea to try next time! 😊

  28. 4 stars
The sauce smelled amazing while it simmered. My shrimp overcooked for like 30 seconds (my fault), but next batch will be perfect.

  29. User avatar vonda.skiles says:

    4 stars
The recipe says 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes—mine was spicier than expected, so either my flakes were extra strong or I’m just weak 😂 Still delicious.

  30. User avatar shelton.senger says:

    5 stars
Made this for my partner and it was *way* better than I expected—garlic + lemon is such a good combo. Sauce reduced nicely and the shrimp stayed tender. Will absolutely make again.

  31. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    4 stars
This feels kinda fancy for something so quick. I like recipes that don’t require a bunch of weird ingredients. My boyfriend loved it.

    1. 5 stars
Honestly this is my kind of fancy 😄 Shrimp + garlic + lemon is always a win, and it doesn’t look like it needs a shopping trip for weird stuff. Glad your boyfriend loved it!

    2. User avatar korey.gusikowski31 says:

      4 stars
Quick and fancy? It’s giving date night, yeah. I do wonder though—white wine + lemon juice… won’t it be too sour? Still, I’d try it. Sounds tasty.

  32. User avatar dominick.quitzon89 says:

    5 stars
Yummy!! Simple and delicious. I made this for my girlfriend and she loved it. Thank you!!!

  33. User avatar emilia.veum says:

    5 stars
This was so delicious! I used less red pepper and it was perfect for me and my partner. ❤️

  34. 3 stars
Honestly, I don’t get why people love shrimp so much… but this was pretty okay. I guess if you like seafood, you’d love it.

    1. User avatar lon.kiehn28 says:

      4 stars
I totally get you! Shrimp isn’t for everyone, but this recipe does look tasty. Maybe try it with chicken next time?

  35. User avatar melania.durgan says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I think my garlic browned a little too fast—next time I’ll keep it closer to 1 minute. Sauce came out tangy (in a good way).

  36. User avatar ivan.smitham says:

    2 stars
Not sure about Valentine’s Day shrimp… seems like just lemon garlic shrimp. Still tasty, but the name is doing the heavy lifting.

  37. User avatar elton.tillman72 says:

    5 stars
This recipe was delicious! The shrimp turned out perfectly cooked and the sauce was so flavorful. Will definitely make again!

    1. 5 stars
I’m glad you enjoyed it! This shrimp recipe is a keeper for sure. I love the sauce too!

  38. User avatar randal.mueller2016 says:

    3 stars
Good concept, but 2-3 minutes per side felt too long for my shrimp (they got a bit rubbery). Still tasty though!

  39. 4 stars
I don’t eat shrimp but made it for my family and they said it’s fantastic! I might just try a bite next time.

    1. User avatar annie.cruickshank5 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Even if you don’t eat it, it’s great your family enjoyed it! Maybe you’ll like it on a special occasion.

  40. User avatar Hotblack Desiato says:

    5 stars
YUM! So delicious! I added some extra garlic just because I love it! ❤️

  41. 2 stars
Way too much garlic for my taste. I know it says 4 cloves but next time I’ll do like 2. Flavor was strong.

    1. User avatar anton.ferry10 says:

      5 stars
I totally get that—4 cloves can be a lot depending on how punchy your garlic is. I usually start with 2 and it still gives great flavor.

    2. 3 stars
Huh, I actually loved the garlic in this one. Strong is kinda the point? Maybe your garlic was extra old or huge cloves. Still yummy though.

  42. User avatar irvin.von1996 says:

    4 stars
I don’t eat shrimp but made it for my partner, they loved it! Cooking it was fun too. 4/5!

  43. User avatar mitch.wiegand1957 says:

    3 stars
The recipe was too simple, I wanted something more fancy for Valentine’s. Red wine woulda been better.

  44. User avatar lula.lehner83 says:

    2 stars
Honestly didn’t turn out as expected. The shrimp were tough. Maybe I cooked them too long?

  45. User avatar barabara.marquardt says:

    3 stars
Shrimp is healthy but this seems like too much acid with the wine and lemon. Just saying.

  46. 4 stars
Not a huge fan of shrimp, but my wife made this for Valentine’s and I must say it was quite delightful. Who knew shrimp could be like this?

  47. User avatar Chaurus Hunter says:

    5 stars
Made this for dinner tonight and it was super quick but still felt fancy. The lemon + white wine sauce is the star!

  48. User avatar evia.buckridge1982 says:

    4 stars
My family loved this! Even my picky eater. Thanks for sharing!

  49. 5 stars
Tasty! I never cooked shrimp before but it turned out well. Thanks for the simple instructions!

  50. User avatar junior.kerluke1972 says:

    2 stars
How can you not use frozen shrimp? Fresh shrimp is sooo overrated! Will try it with frozen next time.

  51. 1 star
My kids didn’t like it at all! Maybe seafood is not for them. 😔

  52. User avatar wilhelmina.grant says:

    4 stars
Quick and easy! Perfect for a weeknight dinner. I’ll give it a 4.

  53. 1 star
Nope, didn’t like it at all. The wine taste was too strong for me. 1/5.

  54. User avatar chante.parisian1966 says:

    2. User avatar clemente.barton1982 says:

      3 stars
Looks good, but I wonder if it really tastes that good? I mean, shrimp can be pretty bland sometimes.

  57. 3 stars
This is good but way too acidic for my taste. I ended up adding a small pinch of sugar and it helped. Not mad, just personal preference.

  58. 5 stars
This recipe is so easy and delicious! Perfect for a date night!

  59. User avatar Future Trunks says:

    4 stars
Yum! I had a great time cookin’ this up! Next time, I might add some more garlic! 😋

  60. 2 stars
Wait—2-3 minutes per side seems long? Shrimp cooks way faster than that, no? I’ll try it but I’m skeptical. Valentine’s or not.

  61. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    5 stars
This shrimp recipe was amazing! My husband loved it, and it’s perfect for Valentine’s dinner. Will definitely make again!

    1. 3 stars
Sounds great but isn’t shrimp kinda expensive? I don’t know if I’d spend that much for dinner. 🤔

    2. User avatar joan.kreiger85 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It’s definitely a hit! For special occasions, it’s perfect! 🍤❤️

  62. User avatar leslie.ritchie70 says:

    1 star
Shrimp? Disgusting! Why u would eat that?!

  63. 2 stars
Simple and easy, but mine kinda got soggy. I should’ve cooked the shrimp longer maybe?

  64. User avatar leonardo.hegmann95 says:

    1 star
Why would anyone put wine in shrimp? Sounds fishy to me. Just stick to butter! 😒

  65. 5 stars
Not gonna lie, I was worried the lemon would be too strong, but once it reduced it mellowed out. Really solid sauce for tossing. 100% repeat.

  66. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    5 stars
I added some cherry tomatoes and it made it even better! 🍅❤️

  67. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    2 stars
Too spicy for my taste. Next time less red pepper flakes.

    1. 4 stars
Yeah, I found it spicy too! But the lemon and garlic really balanced it out. Maybe try lime instead next time?

  68. User avatar Ms. Sabine Keeling says:

    4 stars
Tried it for Valentine’s dinner and my partner loved it! But be careful, it’s super spicy if you add too much red pepper flakes.

  69. User avatar Dominic Vernius says:

    2 stars
I followed the instructions but my shrimp turned out rubbery. Not sure what went wrong.

  70. 3 stars
I followed the recipe exactly but it came out way too salty. Maybe 1 tsp of salt next time?

  71. User avatar gene.leuschke37 says:

    1 star
Shrimp? No thanks. Gimme chicken! 🐔

  72. User avatar ethan.rutherford78 says:

    3 stars
I don’t get the 2-3 minutes per side part—mine went rubbery before that, maybe my pan was too hot. Flavor is great though, so I’d adjust timing.

  73. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious! Made it for my boyfriend on Valentine’s; he loved it! 🥰

  74. User avatar theron.turcotte15 says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and my sauce didn’t really reduce much. It was still tasty, just more like a lemony broth than a coating.

  75. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    5 stars
This is such a cute Valentine’s dinner idea. The lemon juice + wine combo tastes bright and fresh, and the garlic aroma is amazing. I served it over pasta and it was gone fast.

    1. 5 stars
Aww love this idea for Valentine’s! The lemon juice + wine combo sounds so bright, and shrimp cooks so fast—perfect for a weeknight date. 😊 Did you reduce the sauce all the way until it was kind of silky?

    2. User avatar anita.kuvalis says:

      3 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about the wine/lemon ratio. Like 1/4 cup each seems kinda tart—did it taste too sour? Also I always thought garlic burns faster than 1-2 min, so I’m curious how you kept it from getting bitter.

  76. User avatar carolin.kessler2004 says:

    1 star
Eh, not enough flavor. It needed spices or something. I won’t be making this again.

  77. User avatar liana.ryan1998 says:

    5 stars
This shrimp recipe was AMAZING! So flavorful and perfect for Valentine’s Day. Will definitely make again!

  78. User avatar marcelino.bernier says:

    4 stars
Could be my skillet, but step 3 took longer than 2-3 minutes per side. Still came out good though—sauce was bright and not too sour.

  79. User avatar geoWizard says:

    4 stars
Valentine’s Day shrimp… sounds romantic but like, shrimp is always good right? 😅 I added extra pepper flakes because I can’t help myself.

  80. User avatar shelby.witting says:

    3 stars
Too much lemon for my taste. I think I’ll cut back on it next time.

  81. User avatar reyes.renner2008 says:

    4 stars
Easy to follow! But I don’t know about adding wine. Can you replace it with something else? Maybe chicken broth?

  82. User avatar fausto.yost65 says:

    3 stars
Shrimp = Good! But the instructions were kinda vague. I just winged it lol.

    1. User avatar Frost Troll says:

      4 stars
I totally get you! I had to improvise too, but it turned out great! Shrimp is always delicious!

    2. User avatar leroy.farrell1987 says:

      3 stars
Vague instructions sometimes scare me! But I guess shrimp’s easy to cook? I dunno, I usually just boil mine. 🤷‍♂️

  83. User avatar leopoldo.mueller6 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have white wine, so I used apple juice… It’s still good??

  84. User avatar tiffany.schuppe says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have some ingredients and used whatever I had. It still tasted pretty good.

    1. User avatar derrick.dibbert32 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Cooking is all about using what you have. Glad it turned out good!

  85. User avatar Feral Falmer says:

    3 stars
My wife said it was too garlicky, but I loved it! Guess you can’t win them all…

  86. User avatar julienne.abshire1976 says:

    1 star
I tried it and the sauce never reduced for me. Maybe I used cooking wine instead of white wine? It tasted okay but looked watery. Also shrimp shrank a lot lol.

  87. 5 stars
Honestly the garlic step scared me (1-2 min) but it turned out great. Garlic was fragrant not burnt. Nice balance!

  88. 5 stars
    Yum!!!

    1. 5 stars
Right?! The garlic + lemon sauce is a total win—so good on shrimp. 😍

  89. User avatar Kaam Ya'tak says:

    4 stars
Yum! Garlic and shrimp is always a win. Plus super quick! I ain’t got time for fancy stuff.

  90. User avatar Grunthos the Flatulent says:

    3 stars
I tried it, but it was too salty for my taste. I think less salt next time.

  91. User avatar stephanie.feeney83 says:

    4 stars
Shrimp was all pink and stuff! I didn’t understand the part that said ‘deveined’. What does that mean? 😂 4/5.

  92. User avatar Carrie Dababi says:

    2 stars
This is just shrimp cooked with stuff, nothing special.

  93. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

    5 stars
Made this for Valentine’s and it was honestly restaurant-level. The lemon juice cuts through the garlic nicely—perfect with pasta or crusty bread.

  94. User avatar basementDweller says:

    4 stars
Really tasty, but I think 2-3 minutes per side cooked my shrimp a bit too far—next time I’ll do closer to 2. Still super flavorful though.

    1. User avatar val.collins2000 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—shrimp can go from perfect to rubbery fast. I usually aim for about 2 minutes per side too, and pull them as soon as they turn opaque.

  95. User avatar lynwood.stiedemann says:

    5 stars
I followed it exactly and the shrimp came out perfectly pink. Garlic smelled amazing while it cooked—will definitely repeat.

  96. User avatar Hotblack Desiato says:

    5 stars
Simple, quick, and honestly… it feels like cheating. I’m not even a good cook and this came out great. Love it.

  97. 4 stars
I was skeptical about using white wine, but it added a nice touch. Will make again!

  98. User avatar jenelle.mills1988 says:

    2 stars
I dunno… the shrimp just didn’t taste like much. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤷‍♂️

  99. 2 stars
I’m skeptical about cooking shrimp 2-3 minutes per side—mine overcooked fast. Watch them closely!

    1. User avatar alba.renner2022 says:

      5 stars
Totally fair—shrimp cook super fast. I usually do closer to 60–90 seconds per side depending on size, and pull them the second they turn just pink (they keep cooking a bit after).

  100. 4 stars
I don’t know, shrimp give me allergies! But my bf loved it!

    1. User avatar claud.anderson says:

      4 stars
That’s great your bf liked it! Maybe you can try a version without shrimp? I heard chicken works too!

    2. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

      3 stars
Allergies suck! But maybe you can find something else that’s tasty without causing problems?
