Limoncello Cake

March 25, 2025

Limoncello cake is a light, moist dessert that brings the vibrant, zesty flavors of Italy right to your table. Infused with the refreshing taste of limoncello, a sweet lemon liqueur, this cake is a perfect balance of citrusy brightness and rich sweetness. The cake itself is soft and tender, with a delicate crumb that absorbs the limoncello syrup, making each bite a burst of lemony goodness. The combination of fresh lemons, limoncello, and a simple cake base creates a flavorful and indulgent treat that is perfect for any occasion.

This Italian-inspired cake is often topped with a dusting of powdered sugar or a lemon glaze, which adds a touch of sweetness while enhancing the citrus flavor. The limoncello syrup is poured over the cake once it’s baked, allowing the flavors to soak in and infuse the cake with moisture and a zesty punch. The result is a cake that’s wonderfully aromatic, with a perfect balance of tart and sweet flavors.

This cake is versatile and can be served in various ways. It’s delightful on its own, with a cup of coffee or tea, but it also pairs wonderfully with whipped cream, fresh berries, or even a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Its light, refreshing flavors make it an ideal dessert for summer gatherings, dinner parties, or special occasions such as birthdays or holidays.

What makes this cake so special is its ability to deliver the vibrant taste of lemons in a way that’s not overly tart. The limoncello adds a layer of sweetness and complexity that makes the cake stand out. Whether you’re a fan of citrus desserts or simply looking for a refreshing treat, this delicious cake is sure to impress with its perfect balance of flavors and airy texture.

It was okay. A bit too sweet for my taste. I think next time I’ll reduce the sugar.

Not sure why everyone loves this. It was dry and didn’t taste much like lemon at all. Disappointed. 😔

  4. 5 stars
Absolutely delicious! The limoncello adds such a unique flavor. My family loved it! 🍰

Limoncello is not my thing, but my friend loved this cake! I guess it depends on your taste. 🍋

This cake is simply divine! The limoncello gives it such a refreshing flavor. Definitely a keeper! 🍰

My family loves this cake! So easy to make, and it looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing! 😊

  9. User avatar kittie.kris says:

    3 stars
Too much lemon for my liking. I would cut back on lemon zest next time. Also, it was hard to mix, my arm hurt!

    1. User avatar jordon.stanton12 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, I totally get that! Maybe try just a teaspoon of zest instead of a tablespoon next time? Also, what kind of mixer were you using? Mixing by hand can be tough if the batter’s thick.

    2. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

      3 stars
Sounds like a workout! I actually thought the lemon made it super refreshing. But if you’re not a lemon fan, cutting back is a good idea. Just don’t make it too bland!

  10. User avatar lashaun.lebsack2008 says:

    5 stars
This cake is amazing! The limoncello gives it such a unique flavor. I made it for my sister’s birthday and everyone loved it!

  11. 3 stars
Too much lemon for me. I like lemon, but this was overwhelming. 3 stars!

    1. User avatar shaniqua.ortiz89 says:

      4 stars
I totally get it! Lemon can be a bit much sometimes. Maybe try reducing the zest next time? 😅

  12. User avatar Tahm Kench says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but I think 1 tbsp lemon zest feels like “a lot” if your zest is super strong. Also my batter looked a little thick, but it baked up fine. Next time I’ll maybe add a tiny splash more milk.

    1. User avatar jimmy.fadel57 says:

      4 stars
Totally agree on the lemon zest—if it’s extra punchy, 1 tbsp can feel aggressive. I’ve started using a slightly heaping vs. flat spoon depending on how strong the lemon smells.

  13. User avatar rosalyn.abernathy says:

    3 stars
Isn’t lemon zest just the peel? Why do we need it in the cake? Seems unnecessary! 🤨

    1. User avatar steve_maga says:

      5 stars
Lemon zest may seem unnecessary, but it adds a burst of flavor that enhances the whole cake! Trust me, you don’t want to skip it. 🍋

  14. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    5 stars
I added extra limoncello and it was a hit at the party! Everyone loved it!!

  15. User avatar merrilee.legros54 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know where I went wrong, but mine came out way too dense. What did I do? 😕

  16. User avatar jae.wyman33 says:

    2 stars
Cake was okay but too sweet for my taste.

  17. 5 stars
This cake is so good! The limoncello adds just the right amount of zing.

  18. User avatar Rob McKenna says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I forgot to room-temp the eggs and butter. Batter looked a bit weird at first but somehow it worked. Flavor is lemon-forward—props.

  19. 3 stars
It was ok. I feel like there should be icing on it or something, too plain for me.

  20. 4 stars
Okay but… 1/4 cup limoncello seems like a lot? I used only 2 tbsp because I was nervous. It still turned out tasty, just less intense. Maybe I’ll go full next time.

  21. User avatar kary.sawayn1957 says:

    3 stars
I didn’t understand some of the steps, but I gave it a try. Next time, I’ll look for a video. 3 stars!

  22. User avatar olinda.sawayn says:

Easy and delicious! Made it and it went fast. My kids loved it, even the one who’s fussy about sweets. ❤️

Not a fan. The limoncello flavor was too strong for me.

    2. User avatar tamala.hayes33 says:

I actually LOVE the limoncello flavor! It gives such a refreshing taste. Maybe you should try cutting back on it next time?

  25. User avatar dena.kautzer33 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about the limoncello in a cake, but it worked. Texture was fluffy and the crumb was tender. Next time I might add a simple lemon glaze on top.

  26. User avatar kina.leannon7 says:

    1 star
cake nice, but too much lemon taste for me. Won’t make again. 😩

  27. User avatar morton.feeney1993 says:

    5 stars
Followed the steps pretty much exactly. It rose nicely, and the flavor was bright without being too boozy. Only thing: I baked closer to 33 minutes. Great recipe.

  28. User avatar leida.rice1972 says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps pretty much exactly and it turned out lovely. The lemon zest really makes it pop. Only thing: I’d bake it closer to 30 min next time because my toothpick came out clean early.

  29. User avatar Tom Bombadil says:

    2 stars
I don’t see why you need limoncello in a cake. What’s wrong with lemon juice? Seems like a waste of alcohol.

  30. 5 stars
Cake bakes.smells so good! Had to give it a 5! Next time, maybe I’ll add some icing!

  31. User avatar miki.hintz6 says:

    4 stars
Baked this cake last week, my kids didn’t even notice the limoncello! They love it!! 😛

  32. User avatar Ilban Richese says:

    5 stars
Made this for a small get-together and it disappeared fast. The lemon zest + limoncello combo is *chef’s kiss*. Moist, not too sweet. Will bake again!

    1. User avatar humberto.muller says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I love when it’s moist but not cloying. The limoncello + lemon zest combo is so bright—nice for a get-together for sure.

    2. 4 stars
I made something similar and mine didn’t brown much—maybe my oven runs cool. Did yours bake up golden on top?

  33. 4 stars
Yum. I’m gonna try to make it without the limoncello because I can’t find any. Hope it still tastes good.

  34. User avatar drema.torp84 says:

    2 stars
I tried making it but my cake fell flat. Not sure what I did wrong, maybe too much liquid? Disappointed…

    1. User avatar Salome Kiehn says:

      4 stars
Oh no, that sounds frustrating! It could be a few things, like overmixing or not enough baking powder. Don’t give up, you’ll get it right next time!

  35. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    4 stars
Lemon zest? How do you even zest a lemon? I’m confused. But my cake did taste great regardless! 4 stars!

  36. User avatar soon.wehner says:

    5 stars
This cake was a hit at my family gathering! So light and refreshing. Definitely adding this to my favorites!

  37. 2 stars
I tried making this cake, but it turned out super dry. Maybe I used too much flour? Not sure I want to try again.

    1. User avatar Ree Dahee says:

      4 stars
I feel you! Sometimes cakes just don’t turn out right. Maybe try measuring the flour with a scale next time? It helps! Don’t give up!

    2. 3 stars
Dry cake? That’s weird. I always add a bit more milk when I bake. You could also try using cake flour instead of all-purpose flour!

  38. User avatar Margot Fenring says:

    5 stars
Made this last night and it’s so bright and fragrant. The limoncello flavor really comes through without tasting boozy. Loved the lemon zest pop!

  39. 4 stars
Super easy instructions and the cake turned out fluffy. I used a little more zest because I’m impatient, but it was still great. Next time I’ll follow the bake time closer.

    1. User avatar lino.feil69 says:

      5 stars
Yes! Mine was also super fluffy following the steps pretty much exactly. I love how simple the method is—cream butter/sugar and you’re basically halfway there.

    2. 3 stars
I tried this once and my cake came out a bit dense, idk if I overmixed or my eggs weren’t room temp. Also I used lemon juice instead of zest and it tasted kinda weird. Any tips?

  40. User avatar maida.lehner48 says:

    1 star
Hello? Mine didn’t lift at all… toothpick came out clean but it was more like a flat brownie. Could my baking powder be old?

    1. User avatar felipa.mcdermott2018 says:

      4 stars
Flat cake here too the first time 😩 I think I overmixed after adding the flour/milk. The batter should be combined, not beat to death. Did you mix until just combined in step 6?

    2. User avatar millie.little47 says:

      5 stars
Yeah, that totally could be old baking powder. If it’s losing potency, the cake can come out dense like that—more brownie than fluffy. Worth checking the expiration and maybe doing a quick test (mix a bit with hot water, it should fizz).

  41. User avatar mathWizard says:

    3 stars
It was okay. Taste not bad but I expected way more!

    1. 2 stars
It tasted kinda plain if you ask me. Not much lemon flavor. Did you actually use limoncello? Maybe that’s why??

    2. 5 stars
I thought it was amazing! Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Maybe try adding more lemon zest next time?

  42. User avatar Rolf Considine says:

    4 stars
I used low-fat milk and it still came out fine. The crumb is tender. Honestly, I’d pair it with berries or whipped cream and pretend I’m fancy.

  43. User avatar Draugr Overlord says:

    1 star
Why do people use alcohol in their cake? Ain’t that just plain silly? Making desserts for kids, not adults!

  44. User avatar Miss Rutha Wuckert says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe, but it came out too dry. What did I do wrong? I used it from the back of my head, and I won’t try it again.

  45. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    5 stars
This cake is a slice of heaven! So zesty and moist. My family loved it!

  46. User avatar barbra.pagac93 says:

    4 stars
Mmm! Loved the limoncello flavor, but I think it could use more lemon zest. Just my opinion!

  47. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz says:

    3 stars
It looked perfect coming out, but the middle sank a tiny bit. I’m guessing I overmixed after adding the flour. Flavor is still good though—bright and lemony.

  48. User avatar buena.kuvalis67 says:

    4 stars
I’m not sure my oven was on the same 350°F as the recipe (lol). Mine needed closer to 38 minutes. But flavor was nice and lemony—definitely improved with cooling.

  49. User avatar Draugr Wight says:

    4 stars
My toothpick didn’t come out clean at 30 minutes, so I left it a couple more. After that it was perfect. The batter was thick, which made me nervous but it worked out.

  50. User avatar louis.jacobs1971 says:

    5 stars
Delicious! I can’t believe I made this from scratch. Perfect for sunny days. ☀️

  51. 5 stars
Amazing recipe! Super easy and the family loved it. Will make again for sure!

  52. User avatar herb.raynor55 says:

    3 stars
Super easy recipe, but I used whiskey instead of limoncello and it turned out great! LOL!

  53. User avatar Dwarven Shpere says:

    5 stars
This is the first cake I’ve made that actually worked on the first try. My family asked for the recipe. Simple ingredients, good method, solid results.

  54. User avatar tony.stokes18 says:

    1 star
My cake took an hour to bake and it still wasn’t done. 😡

  55. 2 stars
1/2 cup milk and 1/4 cup limoncello seems like a lot of liquid? Mine collapsed a little and now it’s more like a loaf. Maybe my eggs weren’t room temp…

  56. 3 stars
I followed it but my cake sank a bit in the middle. Maybe I overmixed after adding the flour? Still tasted good though—sweet and bright.

  57. User avatar leanne.donnelly says:

    5 stars
Made this for a dinner party—smelled like a lemon grove while it baked. Super moist and the limoncello flavor comes through without tasting boozy. 10/10 would serve with coffee or tea.

  58. User avatar carol.rogahn1993 says:

    4 stars
So good! The limoncello really brings the cake to life! Added some whipped cream on top, yum!

  59. 3 stars
Y’all, I didn’t even know what limoncello was and I still made it. Taste was okay but could be better. 3 stars.

  60. User avatar sam.price50 says:

    1 star
Limoncello? Isn’t that just for drinking? How can you bake with it? Feels wrong to me.

  61. User avatar roberto.haag says:

    4 stars
I subbed lemon juice for limoncello, turned out good! 😀

    1. User avatar tawana.prosacco50 says:

      5 stars
That’s a creative swap! Lemon juice gives it a nice tang too. I might try that next time! 😀

  62. 5 stars
Made this last night—smells like a sunny vacation. The lemon zest really pops, and the crumb is super tender. I used a slightly cheaper limoncello and it still worked great.

  63. User avatar lien.hamill says:

    3 stars
Never heard of limoncello before! What’s up with that? Is it essential?

  64. User avatar eusebio.powlowski says:

    5 stars
This turned out super fragrant—love the lemon zest plus limoncello combo. Mine took closer to 38 minutes, but that might be my oven. Great texture!

  65. User avatar melodee.schimmel says:

    2 stars
Honestly… the limoncello kinda tastes like cough syrup? I dunno maybe my brand was weird. Texture was nice though.

  66. User avatar Grunthos the Flatulent says:

    3 stars
My cake was tasty, but mine sank a little in the middle. I used room-temp ingredients like the recipe said, so I’m not sure what went wrong—maybe I overmixed after adding the flour?

  67. 2 stars
Honestly 350°F for 30-35 minutes seems too long—mine browned super fast and i think it dried out near the edges. Flavor is great though, just watch the oven carefully.

    1. 5 stars
That makes sense—mine usually browns pretty fast too. I’d start checking closer to 22–25 minutes and only go to 30 if the toothpick isn’t clean yet.

    2. User avatar Nunu & Willump says:

      4 stars
I totally agree. I baked it at 350°F for 35 once and the edges got dry and almost crunchy. Flavor was still awesome though, just not the texture I wanted.

  68. User avatar alana.swift1985 says:

    4 stars
Simple recipe! I messed up a bit but it still turned out great! 🍰

  69. 3 stars
I messed up and used powdered sugar instead of granulated… tasted nice but super sweet.

    5 stars
Love lemon desserts! This one is so refreshing. Will make again!

  71. User avatar aurea.gorczany says:

    3 stars
Good, but mine came out a bit dense. I think I overmixed after adding the flour—next time I’ll be gentler. Still tasted great though.

  72. 5 stars
Loved it! The texture is soft and the lemon flavor feels fancy without being hard. I’d totally serve this to guests.

  73. User avatar Leto II Atreides says:

    5 stars
    Yum!

    1. User avatar lakesha.heidenreich says:

      2 stars
Yum? Not everyone likes lemon tho. What if ur not a fan of sour? Idk, just saying…

    2. 5 stars
Absolutely! I love how refreshing lemon flavors can be in desserts. Can’t wait to try this!

  74. User avatar january.ziemann says:

    2 stars
The texture was okay, but mine was kind of dry around the edges. I greased/floured the pan like it says. Not a total fail—just not the wow factor I wanted.

  75. 5 stars
This cake is absolutely divine! The limoncello really elevates the flavor. 5 stars all the way!

    1. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! The limoncello adds such a unique taste. I can’t wait to try this myself.

  76. User avatar margaretta.muller71 says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, mine didn’t come out like the pictures people post. The center was a bit dense even though toothpick was “clean-ish.” I might’ve overmixed after adding flour. Still edible though, and the lemon smell was great.

    1. User avatar hilton.klein96 says:

      4 stars
Oof, that dense center is usually from overmixing once the flour goes in. Next time stop as soon as it’s combined—no extra beating after adding dry ingredients. Glad the lemon smell still won though!

  77. 1 star
Cake was kinda soggy at the bottom. Should’ve baked it longer? Not worth the effort. 1 star.

    1. User avatar jeffery.dibbert81 says:

      4 stars
I’ve had that happen too! Sometimes cakes need a bit longer depending on your oven. Did you check with a toothpick?

    2. User avatar tiesha.mraz91 says:

      3 stars
1 star? That’s harsh! You could add a glaze or icing to cover up the sogginess next time!

  78. 3 stars
I used olive oil instead of butter. What’s that say about my skills? 😂

  79. User avatar sherika.bins5 says:

    3 stars
lol i accidentally used regular milk cold not room temp and i still got a decent cake. Not perfect but it was still good. maybe luck though

    1. User avatar Ford Prefect says:

      4 stars
Cold milk? wow, i would’ve expected it to curdle with butter or mess up the crumb. Glad it worked though. Next time try warming the milk a bit so it comes out more “perfect.”

    2. User avatar alesia.mraz53 says:

      5 stars
Honestly that’s still a win 😄 Room-temp ingredients matter, but chemistry can be forgiving sometimes—could totally be luck or just your batter mixing working out!

  80. 5 stars
This cake is amazing! So moist and flavorful. My family loved it!

    1. 3 stars
Really? I thought limoncello was just for drinks. Is this cake super lemony? Not sure if I would like it.

    2. User avatar Victor Cruickshank Sr. says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad to hear that! This cake is one of my favorites too. Did you serve it with anything special?

  81. User avatar jamey.dicki says:

    3 stars
I thought it would be brighter, like more tang, but it’s more delicate than I expected. Still tasty though. Maybe I should’ve used more zest or a stronger limoncello.

  82. User avatar Link (Goron) says:

    2 stars
I made this last night and it was a flop. The texture was off. Not sure what I did wrong. 2/5.

  83. User avatar sueann.bogisich87 says:

    1 star
Lemon is yuck! Why would you put alcohol in cake?? Next thing you know you’ll be putting vodka in a pie. Not for me.

  84. User avatar loreen.nienow1981 says:

    4 stars
Super easy recipe! I didn’t have limoncello, so I used lemonade instead. Still turned out yummy! 4 stars!

  85. 3 stars
Batter was thick like a pound cake vibe. Still baked up fine, but mine turned slightly dense around the edges. Could be I overmixed after adding flour.

    1. 4 stars
Mine was also kinda thick, but I’m wondering if your pan was smaller/deeper? I used 9-inch like the recipe and it wasn’t dense. Also I mixed the zest more than I should’ve 😅 so maybe that’s your culprit too? It’s still good though!

    2. User avatar malik.wolf says:

      5 stars
That thick, pound-cake-ish batter makes sense with this ratio. If the edges got dense, I’d suspect overmixing once the flour went in or maybe baking a minute or two too long—try pulling it when the center still has a tiny jiggle and the toothpick is mostly clean.

I’m skeptical about baking with limoncello—thought it would mess up the texture. But surprisingly it turned out tender and fluffy. Couldn’t stop snacking on it while it cooled.

Made this for a dinner party and it disappeared fast. The lemon zest is super fragrant and the limoncello gives it this grown-up citrus kick. Next time I might add a simple lemon glaze, but the cake itself is great.

    1. 4 stars
I made something similar but didn’t zest enough the first time. Your note about the fragrance makes me want to bump it slightly next go.

    2. User avatar rigoberto.cole1971 says:

      5 stars
That sounds perfect for a dinner party—if it disappeared fast, I’m sold 😄 The limoncello + lemon zest combo is *so* fragrant.

10/10! I didn’t have limoncello so I used sprite, still came out delish!

    1. User avatar wiley.crooks40 says:

      5 stars
Using sprite instead of limoncello? That’s creative! Glad it still turned out great for you.✨

  89. User avatar Draugr Wight says:

Made this for a friend’s birthday, and it was a hit! I might have added a little extra lemon zest though.

  90. 5 stars
This is the best cake I ever done, fr 😭 I used room temp eggs (almost) and it came out fluffy. 10/10 would steal slice again.

    1. User avatar marquetta.howell79 says:

      5 stars
Ahh yes!! Room-temp eggs really make a difference—glad it turned out fluffy for you 😭🍋

  91. 2 stars
I’m skeptical about adding limoncello—doesn’t it mess with the structure? Mine came out a bit gummy. Flavor was nice, but next time I’ll adjust bake time or reduce liquid.

  92. User avatar lourie.hagenes says:

This cake is to die for! Perfect for summer parties. 🍋☀️

  93. User avatar jerrell.vandervort says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about using so much sugar + limoncello, but wow. Not overly sweet—just lemony and fragrant. I used fresh zest and that probably helped a lot.

  94. 3 stars
I didn’t have room temp ingredients, so I microwaved butter a bit (bad idea lol). Cake rose weirdly, but tasted good. Recipe seems solid if you prep properly.

  95. User avatar sean.bartoletti says:

Is 1 tablespoon of lemon zest enough? I felt like the lemon flavor was kinda mild. Might try doubling the zest next time or adding a little lemon juice for punch.

    1. User avatar donny.homenick1960 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, mine was kinda mild with only 1 tbsp too. I added another tbsp of zest and it helped a lot. I wouldn’t add extra juice into the batter though—it can mess with the balance.

    2. User avatar darell.lynch33 says:

      5 stars
I think 1 tbsp lemon zest is fine for subtle flavor, but if you want it brighter, doubling sounds like a good move. The cake might get a little more aromatic too—just don’t overmix after adding it.

  96. User avatar wesley.glover1 says:

    3 stars
The flavor is good, but I wish it was more lemony. I used a whole tablespoon zest but it still felt mild to me. Would recommend adding extra zest or a tiny bit more lemon juice.

  97. User avatar daryl.walter47 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about 1/4 cup limoncello in a cake… but it turned out nice. Texture was fluffy and moist. Would bake again.

  98. User avatar waylon.kris30 says:

I don’t buy liqueur, can I use lemon juice instead? What do you think?

  99. User avatar warner.ziemann82 says:

Made this for a family get-together and it was gone fast. The lemon zest really pops, and the limoncello gives it this nice grown-up flavor without tasting like alcohol. Mine took closer to 35 minutes—still perfect.

Really good recipe! But I think I’m allergic to something, my throat itches after eating it…

  101. User avatar kendrick.dach1988 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I think 30 minutes wasn’t enough for my oven. I ended up at like 40 and then the toothpick came out clean. Flavor is amazing though.

  102. 2 stars
I followed it exactly and it came out bland 😕 The lemon flavor is there but subtle. Maybe my limoncello wasn’t very lemony?

    1. User avatar christiana.dubuque29 says:

      4 stars
Ugh, I’m sorry—bland cakes are the worst 😕 I think 1 tbsp zest + 1/4 cup limoncello can be subtle if the limoncello isn’t punchy. Next time try adding a bit more zest (or even a tiny splash of lemon juice) and don’t skimp on creaming the butter/sugar.

    2. User avatar marcus.goyette says:

      4 stars
Did you measure the zest after zesting? Like… 1 tablespoon sounds small, so if you packed it lightly it might’ve been less than you thought. Also baking 35 min can dry it out and make flavors seem muted. Try pulling it closer to 30.

  103. User avatar truman.okuneva1980 says:

    2 stars
Boring. It’s just lemon cake. Didn’t wow me and the limoncello taste got lost. Might be my oven, but yeah.

  104. User avatar beaulah.roob62 says:

    5 stars
Yummm! Easy to make and delicious! Will definitely make again!

  105. 4 stars
Tastes amazing, but I struggled a bit with getting the batter smooth. I think my butter was still a little cool. Once it warmed up, mixing was easier. Still worth it!

    1. User avatar ermelinda.bode0 says:

      5 stars
So glad you nailed the flavor! That “butter still cool” snag is super common—once it warms up, the creaming gets way easier. 😊

  106. User avatar walter.kozey says:

    3 stars
Idk, I think lemon zest is just a gimmick. Just throw in more limoncello, right?

    1. User avatar Zarniwoop says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! Lemon zest adds a fresh flavor that limoncello can’t replicate. It’s essential for the cake!

  107. User avatar jeanette.carter43 says:

    2 stars
I followed it exactly (room-temp butter/eggs, all that). Still, it tasted kind of bland—like lemon-flavored sponge. Maybe my limoncello is weak? Or my zest was old.

  108. User avatar hope.wolf83 says:

    2 stars
Tried it and I wasn’t impressed. It was too sweet for my taste and the limoncello flavor was barely there. 🤨

  109. User avatar Chris Ko says:

    2 stars
Meh. I don’t know, tasted like regular lemon cake to me. Also my toothpick came out clean but it still felt slightly underdone—idk maybe my pan is smaller?

  110. User avatar jake.dicki51 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about limoncello in cake, but it’s actually nice and not overly boozy. Next time I’ll add a little more zest for extra punch.

  111. User avatar Bill Loney says:

    4 stars
I get what you’re saying! I noticed that too. The limoncello part seems confusing. Maybe they just made a mistake? I wouldn’t trust it either until someone tries it for real.

  112. User avatar nickolas.hessel says:

Made this last night and it smells like a vacation. The lemon zest + limoncello is such a good combo—my cake turned out moist and springy. I’ll definitely bake it again for guests!

  113. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, it came out a bit dry for me. I think I may have overbaked, because I pulled it at 35 min but my oven runs hot. Flavor is good though—just needs moisture next time.

  114. User avatar Charles Darwin says:

    1 star
Too much sugar for me tbh. Also 3 eggs seems like a lot? I dunno, didn’t hit for my taste. Might try half recipe.

  115. 3 stars
This is a good base cake, but 1/4 cup limoncello feels like it might be too much booze? I’m scared it’ll taste boozy… It didn’t, but I was skeptical.

    1. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

      5 stars
I get why you’d think that, but baking usually cooks a lot of the “boozy” edge off. Plus it’s only 1/4 cup for the whole cake—mine just tasted bright and lemony, not boozy.

  116. User avatar carl.bechtelar64 says:

    4 stars
Pretty easy overall, and the crumb is really nice. I used a little extra zest (because I can’t help myself) and it was still well-balanced. Will make again.

  117. User avatar rob.strosin1956 says:

Cake was dry and crumbled apart. Not a fan. 😔

  118. User avatar milda.grady9 says:

I was skeptical about adding liqueur to cake, but it worked! However, mine sank a little in the middle and I’m not sure why. Still tasty with coffee.

  119. User avatar Frodo Baggins says:

    1 star
umm ok but why 3 eggs only? I feel like it should be more like 5 for a 9-inch cake. Could be me, but my batter seemed thin 😅

    1. User avatar mel.borer28 says:

      4 stars
I totally get your thought, but 3 eggs can be enough—this batter has quite a bit of butter + 1 cup sugar, and it’s not a super eggy sponge style. If yours was thin, check that your butter wasn’t melted and your milk was measured right.

  120. User avatar raul.bauch says:

    2 stars
This is way too much sugar for my taste. The cake is sweet sweet. I’d cut sugar next time or add a glaze that’s more tart.

  121. 3 stars
I tried it and the batter felt a little thick, like too much flour maybe? Still baked up, but the crumb is denser than I expected. Maybe my measuring was off.

  122. User avatar zane.volkman38 says:

    2 stars
I think 1 tbsp zest is not enough—also my cake stuck to the pan even though I greased and floured. Taste was fine but presentation wasn’t great.

    1. 4 stars
Hmm, I feel like 1 tbsp zest sounds low too. I usually use closer to 2 tbsp for a stronger lemon punch—plus it makes the crumb look prettier. Sorry it stuck though 😕

  123. 5 stars
I followed the recipe exactly and the texture came out really tender—like, not too dense at all. Baking time was spot on (mine took closer to 33 minutes). Will definitely bake again.

    1. User avatar bok.boyer2024 says:

      5 stars
So glad it worked for you! “Not too dense” is exactly what I look for in this cake—tender crumb for sure. I’m with you on the baking time too; mine usually sits closer to the 33-min mark as well.

  124. User avatar Xavier Breath says:

    4 stars
I’ve made a lot of cakes and this batter felt a bit thin. Also, creaming butter and sugar didn’t get very fluffy for me, but the cake still rose enough. Would make again with a little adjustment to mixing time.

    1. 4 stars
Thanks for sharing! If the batter seemed a bit thin, I wonder if the room-temp butter/milk ratio or measuring could’ve made a difference. I’ve found baking powder brands vary—did you check it’s fresh?

    2. 4 stars
Hmm, my creaming always takes longer than the recipe suggests—like 3-5 minutes for me. If yours didn’t get fluffy but it still rose, I’d try creaming a bit longer next time like you said.

  125. User avatar honey.schulist1982 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good overall. Mine took closer to 40 minutes in my oven, but the texture was still nice. The limoncello flavor is subtle—next time I might add a tiny bit more zest for punch.

  126. User avatar krista.mcglynn43 says:

    2 stars
meh. Mine came out kinda dry and not as lemony as i hoped. Maybe my zest wasnt enough? Also my pan must’ve been different size? Idk

  127. User avatar janean.cassin28 says:

    2 stars
350°F is way too hot IMO. Mine browned on top before the center set, so I had to tent it with foil. Flavor still great though.

  128. User avatar Carletta VonRueden DVM says:

    3 stars
Not sure about using limoncello—mine tasted a little boozy for my liking. I reduced it slightly and it improved a lot. If you like sweet liqueur flavor, you’ll probably love it.

  129. 4 stars
Followed the steps exactly and my toothpick came out clean around 32 min. However, I think my lemon zest was weak so it tasted a bit muted—next time I’ll zest more.

  130. 1 star
I used what I thought was lemon zest (turns out I grabbed a lemon peel thingy?) and yeah… it wasn’t good. Learn from me. 😂
