Greek Chicken Stew

March 27, 2024

Greek Chicken Stew is the kind of dish that fills the kitchen with warmth and rich aromas, offering a perfect blend of Mediterranean flavors. This hearty stew combines tender chicken with vegetables, olives, and the unmistakable tang of lemon and herbs, creating a comforting, flavorful meal that’s both satisfying and nourishing.

The heart of this stew is the chicken, which is slow-cooked to perfection until it’s tender and infused with the flavors of the broth. The stew’s base is a combination of olive oil, garlic, onions, and fresh tomatoes, creating a flavorful foundation that is both rich and fresh. A generous amount of oregano, thyme, and bay leaves adds a delightful herby note, giving the dish its signature Greek flair.

One of the standout elements of Greek Chicken Stew is the inclusion of olives. The briny olives add a savory depth that balances the sweetness of the tomatoes and the mildness of the chicken. The addition of potatoes or root vegetables provides a hearty texture and makes the stew even more filling, while the bright, citrusy lemon cuts through the richness of the stew and adds a refreshing contrast.

What makes this stew so special is its ability to bring together familiar ingredients in a way that feels both comforting and vibrant. The flavors are bold but not overpowering, and the dish has a lightness to it that doesn’t leave you feeling heavy. It’s perfect for cozy family dinners or a special meal to share with friends.

The versatility of Greek Chicken Stew also makes it a great choice for meal prep. The stew tastes even better the next day as the flavors continue to develop. Whether you enjoy it with a slice of crusty bread or a simple Greek salad on the side, this dish is sure to become a favorite.

This has nothing to do with real Greek food! Aye, where’s the feta?

    1. User avatar jere.berge1978 says:

      4 stars
Honestly, I think it’s still a delicious dish even without feta! It’s more of a stew than a salad, you know?

Sounds nice but kettle takes longer for cook chicken right? I don’t think it can be done in 30 min.

    1. User avatar daniel.macejkovic11 says:

      4 stars
Actually, it’s possible! Cooking times can vary, but if you cut the chicken into smaller pieces, it can cook faster. Give it a try!

    2. 3 stars
Nah, man! 30 mins for chicken? That’s barely enough time. I mean, depends how you do it, but still seems fishy.

  23. User avatar jules.jerde79 says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe but my chicken turned out dry. I think it needs more cooking time or something?

    1. 4 stars
I had the same problem! Try marinating the chicken beforehand, it helps keep it juicy.

Sounds good, but I’ve had chicken stew that was better. Maybe it’s just me?

  41. User avatar valery.bartell4 says:

    3 stars
Why do you have to cook the chicken before adding the veggies? Isn’t that gonna make it even drier? Just asking lol.

    1. 4 stars
Cooking the chicken first is important! It helps to lock in the moisture before you add the veggies. A drier chicken can happen if you rush it. Trust me, it’s better this way!

  42. 3 stars
Just okay. It felt like I was missing something but I don’t know what.

  43. 3 stars
I don’t know, it seems too much work for chicken stew. Maybe next time. ⭐⭐⭐

    2. User avatar sage.wisoky2024 says:

Honestly, I don’t think this stew turned out well at all. The chicken ended up dry and the veggies were mushy. Not great! 😒

  61. User avatar Zarniwoop says:

Why use chicken thighs? They always get kinda chewy. I prefer breasts for stews.

  62. 3 stars
Why do you need so many spices? Just use salt and pepper, simple is better.
