Garlic and Parmesan Kale Chips

September 10, 2025

Garlic and Parmesan kale chips are a snack that manages to feel indulgent while still being wholesome. Kale, often praised as a superfood, takes on a whole new life when transformed into crisp, golden bites. The process of baking turns its slightly bitter flavor into something mellow and nutty, while the addition of garlic and Parmesan makes it irresistible. These chips are a perfect example of how simple ingredients can come together to create something far greater than the sum of their parts.

What makes them so appealing is their contrast in texture and taste. Fresh kale leaves, once baked, become airy and light yet still manage to deliver a satisfying crunch. The garlic lends a savory depth, filling the kitchen with an inviting aroma as they roast. Parmesan adds richness and a salty bite that complements the kale perfectly, creating a snack that is both comforting and flavorful. It’s a healthier alternative to traditional chips, but without any sense of compromise. In fact, many people discover that they prefer these to the store-bought versions once they’ve tried them fresh from the oven.

The versatility of garlic and Parmesan kale chips also makes them a favorite for different occasions. They can be served casually in a bowl for a movie night, or placed in a pretty dish as part of a party spread. Beyond being a snack, they work well as a crunchy topping for soups or salads, adding both texture and flavor. Their lightness means you can enjoy them without feeling weighed down, and the Parmesan coating gives them just enough richness to feel special.

Another advantage is that these chips fit beautifully into a balanced lifestyle. They’re naturally packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber, making them a smart choice for anyone looking to add more greens to their diet in a fun way. Yet despite their nutritional value, they never taste like “health food.” Instead, they deliver a punch of flavor that keeps you reaching for more. Garlic and Parmesan kale chips prove that snacks can be both nourishing and delicious, a winning combination that’s hard to resist. Whether you’re entertaining or simply satisfying a craving, they always deliver.

Yuck. I was expecting crunchy snacks like chips, but these were all soggy! Maybe I did something wrong. Not sure if I’ll try again.

    1. 3 stars
I had the same problem once! I think baking them longer might help. Just keep an eye on them so they don’t burn. 😅

    2. User avatar taisha.stiedemann says:

      4 stars
Sorry to hear that! It’s important to let them cool a bit, that’s when they get crunchy. Maybe try again and give them more time? 😊

  6. 3 stars
I tried to make these but used regular cheese instead of Parmesan. They tasted okay, but not crunchy enough. Guess I need to follow the recipe better!

    1. User avatar jarvis.heathcote1972 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, Parmesan is key for the crunch! Don’t beat yourself up, maybe give it another shot? It might turn out amazing next time!

    2. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      3 stars
Regular cheese? I think that’s why they weren’t crunchy. Parmesan has that special flavor and texture. Try again!

  7. 5 stars
I added some cayenne pepper for a kick. Super good! Gotta try it!

  8. 3 stars
Tried this recipe, but I think I overcooked them a bit. Still edible tho! Next time I’ll keep an eye on them.

  9. 1 star
Kale is just grass, I don’t get why people rave about it. Pass.

    1. 4 stars
Kale’s not for everyone, but glad your kids liked it! Maybe try seasoning differently next time?

  24. 2 stars
This recipe sounds cheap and easy but also kinda weird. Who eats kale like this?

I don’t think kale can ever replace regular chips. This was disappointing.

    1. 4 stars
I totally get where you’re coming from! Kale chips just don’t hit the same way as regular chips do. They are a nice alternative tho! 😅

    2. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

  29. 5 stars
Kale is sooo good for you! Better than potato chips! Totally recommend this recipe! 💚

  30. 5 stars
Wow. Like real chips but healthier! I love kale. Super easy recipe, will make again. Thanks for sharing!

  31. 5 stars
I’m obsessed with anything crunchy, so yeah… these slap. 300°F is the right temp. Mine crisped more after cooling like the recipe said.

  32. 4 stars
My first time making kale chips and it went well! Gonna make it again!

  33. 4 stars
So easy and delish! My kids loved helping me make these. Who knew kale could be fun?

  34. User avatar Koume and Kotake says:

I don’t like parmesan, so I used cheddar. It was okay but not the same.

    1. User avatar sydney.frami81 says:

      4 stars
Cheddar sounds interesting, but it won’t give you that umami flavor that Parmesan brings. Maybe try nutritional yeast next time!

    2. User avatar warner.nienow says:

      2 stars
I dunno, cheddar is just too strong. Parmesan is the way to go for kale chips. 🤷‍♂️

  35. User avatar analisa.satterfield says:

    5 stars
These kale chips are a game changer! So crispy and tasty! 5 stars for sure!

  36. User avatar Ice Wraith says:

    2 stars
I tried this, but my chips burned even though I followed the time. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe my oven is too hot? Not sure I’ll try again.

    1. User avatar sharan.shields says:

      4 stars
I’m sorry to hear that! Sometimes ovens can be finicky. Maybe try lowering the temp a bit next time? I love these chips! 🤗

  37. 4 stars
Super crunchy! I added some chili powder for a kick. So good!

  38. 5 stars
These kale chips are amazing! I couldn’t believe how easy they were to make. I added some chili flakes for extra kick and they were delicious!

  39. User avatar loren.kuvalis86 says:

Isn’t 300°F kinda low? I usually bake at 400° for chips. But they turned out ok.

    1. User avatar yahaira.gerlach says:

      5 stars
I think 300°F is good for kale chips! They get crunchy but don’t burn easily. Maybe try it next time?

  40. User avatar chassidy.cruickshank says:

    2 stars
The oven is too hot, my chips burned. It said 300 but my oven is weird!

  41. User avatar Darren Herzog V says:

    4 stars
The instructions say tear into bite-sized pieces but mine were all diffrent sizes, and the small ones got crunchy fast. Flavor still great.

  42. User avatar rosina.streich2002 says:

    4 stars
My mom thought these were awful. But I liked them, so idk lol. Great recipe for a snack.

  43. 4 stars
300°F for 15 min felt a bit short, I think. I’d start checking around 10–12 minutes next time so they don’t go from golden to burnt.

  44. 3 stars
I don’t know about eating kale. Seems weird. But my sister loved these chips. Guess they are good for some people.

  45. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    2 stars
Mine got burnt 🙁 followed the instructions perfectly. Maybe my oven temp is off? Not sure but they tasted bitter. Gonna try again.

  46. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    1 star
Not for me. I don’t get why people rave about kale. It tastes like grass. Yuck!

  47. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    3 stars
Garlic powder? I thought you meant fresh garlic. 🙄 Shoulda known better. Still tastes ok but different flavor.

  48. User avatar sanjuana.hudson says:

    5 stars
These are amazing! I made them for a movie night and they were a hit. Definitely a keeper.

  49. User avatar terrell.muller says:

  51. User avatar buck.mcdermott says:

    5 stars
    YUM!

  52. 5 stars
These kale chips are AMAZING! I can’t believe how simple they are to make. Definitely a new favorite!

  53. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Kwaltz says:

    4 stars
300°F seems low? I did 325 and they browned faster. Also, I used grated Romano instead of Parmesan (same vibe). Turned out alright!

  54. User avatar shin.rutherford34 says:

    2 stars
I don’t have kale, so I used spinach… it turned into kinda sad chips. Guess that’s on me though 😅

  55. 4 stars
Tasty, but mine burned a tiny bit at the edges even at 15 minutes. Next time I’ll start checking at 10.

    1. User avatar nicholas.kessler says:

      5 stars
Good call on checking earlier—kale chips can brown fast depending on oven hot spots and how dry the leaves are. I usually go closer to 10–12 minutes and pull them once the edges look set.

  56. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, my oven runs hot. I burnt my first tray. Still, the second one at 300°F was perfect once I watched it like a hawk.

    1. 3 stars
300°F for 15 min sounds kinda low? Mine would never crisp at that temp unless I did like 400° and kept the door cracked. Still, if your oven runs hot then makes sense.

    2. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      5 stars
Totally relate—my oven is also a drama queen. Watching them like a hawk is the only way. I’ve learned “edges brown” means “pull early,” haha.

  57. 4 stars
Kale? Really? I thought this was gonna be gross but it actually turned out pretty good! Never thought I’d say I like kale chips.

    1. User avatar garrett.kiehn says:

      2 stars
Kale? Isn’t that the stuff rabbits eat? I don’t believe it could be good!

    2. 5 stars
I never thought kale could taste good either! These chips are a game changer. Who knew? 😄

  58. 1 star
Kale chips are bad for you. Just eat real chips. This is a waste of time.

  59. User avatar elizebeth.runolfsdottir96 says:

    5 stars
Crunchy and seriously addictive. I didn’t measure perfectly, but the olive oil + parm combo worked wonders. Next time I’ll try adding a pinch of chili flakes.

  60. User avatar roger.schmidt1981 says:

    5 stars
These are super crunchy—like legit snack food. My kids stole them and asked for more, so that’s a win.

    1. User avatar cletus.kuhlman41 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! That “snack food” crunch is the best part—my oven actually does the same thing. I always make sure the kale is totally dry and don’t overcrowd the pan, or they come out kinda chewy.

  61. User avatar jenise.flatley1954 says:

    3 stars
Way too salty for my taste—maybe reduce the salt next time. Still good texture.

    1. User avatar sabine.jakubowski says:

      5 stars
Ahh good to know! I’ll try cutting the salt in half next batch—glad the texture stayed crispy though.

    2. 4 stars
Maybe your Parmesan was extra salty? I’ve been using salted Parm and it gets kinda briny fast. But the crunch is legit.

  62. 5 stars
Garlic! Parmesan! Crunchy goodness! Love it, love it, love it!!

  63. User avatar lucas.skiles1970 says:

    3 stars
Mine came out a little bitter because I probably didn’t dry the leaves enough. Still tasty though, just more like “crispy kale” than full chips.

    1. User avatar ivory.bernhard says:

      4 stars
I get it… mine was kinda bitter once too. Maybe I didn’t dry enough like you. But honestly, crispy kale is still way better than nothing 😅 Might also be the salt/Parmesan ratio? Idk.

    2. User avatar faye.bartoletti says:

      5 stars
Ahh that makes sense—kale can get bitter if it isn’t fully dry or if it doesn’t crisp fast enough. Next time try drying longer (or even a quick pat + low spin) and make sure the oven is hot enough for browning.

  64. User avatar camie.bechtelar1993 says:

    5 stars
These came out super crispy! I made sure the kale was really dry and didn’t crowd the pan—big difference.

  65. User avatar margarito.blanda68 says:

    4 stars
I wasn’t a fan of kale before, but this recipe changed my mind! So crunchy and flavorful!

  66. User avatar barton.rodriguez says:

    4 stars
Honestly I’m skeptical of “chips” from kale… but wow. The seasoning ratio is solid and the edges browning tip helped.

  67. User avatar carlyn.little1990 says:

    5 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about oven kale chips but the parmesan makes it. The smell while baking is amazing.

  68. User avatar Frost Atronach says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and they turned out okay, but the Parmesan didn’t stick that well on mine. Maybe I over-oiled or under-mixed?

  69. 5 stars
These were dangerously addictive. The edges got nice and crisp and the garlic-parm combo is legit. I might add a pinch of chili flakes next time.

  70. User avatar terrance.brown81 says:

    5 stars
These were dangerously good. I dried the kale extra well and they actually stayed crisp even after sitting a bit. Parmesan + garlic powder is a perfect combo.

    1. 5 stars
Right?? I always mess up kale chips by not drying it enough, but your method sounds spot on. I’m trying this combo next—parmesan + garlic powder really is elite.
