Frozen Espresso Martini

July 14, 2025

Enjoy a cool twist on the classic espresso martini by making it frozen. This refreshing cocktail combines coffee, vodka, and a hint of sweetness, blended with ice to create the perfect drink for a hot day or a chic cocktail party.

The frozen espresso martini is a frosty twist on the classic cocktail that combines the rich, bold flavor of coffee with the indulgence of a chilled dessert drink. Smooth, slightly sweet, and perfectly boozy, it’s the kind of cocktail that wakes you up and cools you down at the same time. Perfect for summer nights, brunch with friends, or anytime you want your coffee with a kick and a touch of glamour.

At its core, the frozen version keeps the same essentials as the original: vodka, espresso, and coffee liqueur like Kahlúa. But instead of being shaken over ice, it’s blended with ice until frothy and smooth, turning it into a coffee-flavored slushie that feels both luxe and refreshing. The result is a thick, creamy drink with a bold coffee punch and just enough sweetness to keep things balanced.

What makes the frozen espresso martini so appealing is its texture. It’s rich but icy, smooth but strong, a cocktail and dessert in one. The espresso brings intensity, while the vodka adds sharpness. The coffee liqueur rounds it out with a touch of warmth and sweetness, and when blended together, it’s like sipping on a cold, boozy mocha.

You can serve it in a classic martini glass or pour it into a rocks glass for a more relaxed presentation. Garnish with a few coffee beans, a sprinkle of cocoa powder, or even shaved dark chocolate if you’re feeling fancy.

This drink is perfect for those who love espresso martinis but want something a bit more playful and suited to warm weather. It’s also an excellent after-dinner option-cooling, indulgent, and energizing all at once.

This is so awesome! I used almond milk instead of simple syrup and it still tasted great! Thanks for sharing! 🙌

I tried making this and it turned out awful! Like, how do you blend ice? It just made a slushy mess. Never again! 😩

  2. 4 stars
This is super easy! I made it the other night and used decaf espresso since I was tired… haha! Still yum! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I tried making this but it just turned out frothy milk… What did I do wrong? 😕

    1. User avatar lester.gaylord5 says:

      3 stars
Frothy milk? That’s odd. Did you use hot espresso? If the espresso is too hot, it can make it foam more. Just a thought!

    2. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

      4 stars
Sounds like you might have blended it too long or added too much ice! You want it frothy but not just milk. Try blending for a shorter time next time!

  4. 5 stars
Wow, this looks amazing! Can’t wait to try it for my next party! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  5. User avatar mercedes.monahan56 says:

    3 stars
I tried this recipe, but it didn’t taste strong enough for me. Maybe I used the wrong liqueur? 🤔 ⭐⭐⭐

  6. User avatar genaro.denesik7 says:

Espresso martini? Is that even a thing? Sounds too fancy for me! I just drink my coffee black. 😅 ⭐⭐

    1. User avatar marlon.deckow says:

Espresso martini is definitely a thing! It’s like coffee and cocktails had a baby. Give it a try, you might love it! ☕🍸

I’m skeptical about vodka in coffee drinks but this one isn’t too bad. 🤔

  8. User avatar Joselyn Runte Sr. says:

    5 stars
This drink is AMAZING! Perfect for my Friday night chill. 😍

    1. 2 stars
Looks good but I don’t think coffee and vodka mix well. Isn’t that like a bad combo?

    2. User avatar shizue.glover57 says:

      5 stars
I made this drink last weekend and it really is the best! Totally agree! 🥳

  9. 1 star
Nah… not for me. Coffee and booze? I think I’d rather just drink coffee. 😒

  10. User avatar isaac.huel86 says:

    5 stars
5 stars for sure! The espresso gives it such a kick! Need more recipes like this!

  11. User avatar ariel.auer says:

Did you know there’s a different way to make espresso martini? Mine’s better, trust me. 😏

    1. 4 stars
I bet your recipe is good, but this one sounds pretty refreshing! Can’t wait to try it! ☕️🍸

  12. 4 stars
Yummy! But I didn’t have simple syrup, so I used sugar… was good enough!

    1. User avatar stephan.gleichner13 says:

      2 stars
Sugar? Really? Doesn’t that make it gritty? Simple syrup is way better!

    2. User avatar yevette.jones says:

      4 stars
Using sugar instead of simple syrup? That’s creative! Glad it turned out well for you.

  13. 2 stars
I don’t get why people say this is easy. Never blended right. I got a slushy mess.

  14. User avatar ruben.bauch26 says:

    5 stars
This just made me feel fancy! I’m not a bartender but I feel like one now. Thanks for the recipe!

    1. 5 stars
You should totally try making it at home! It’ll impress your friends too! 🍸

  15. User avatar Michael83 says:

    5 stars
This was sooooo good! I added a bit more coffee liqueur because I love a strong flavor. Definitely making this again!

    1. User avatar chance.cruickshank1 says:

      5 stars
Glad you liked it! Coffee liqueur really does make it special. Cheers to more strong flavors!

    2. User avatar luigi.rippin48 says:

      3 stars
Whoa, you added more coffee liqueur? Doesn’t that make it a bit too sweet? But hey, if you love it, go for it!

  16. 2 stars
I messed up the ratio and used too much syrup. Way too sweet ugh!

    1. User avatar boyd.renner65 says:

      3 stars
Yeah, I bet that would be way too sweet! Maybe next time just try half the syrup. Or none? I dunno, just my thoughts.

  17. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I think 1 ounce espresso is kinda strong? I had to add a tiny splash more syrup to balance it out. Otherwise, blender texture was perfect.

  18. User avatar leon.glover59 says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure about using “1 cup ice” because my blender choked a little. Ended up adding a splash of water to get it moving—still tasty though.

    1. 5 stars
Yeah that happens—1 cup of ice can be a lot depending on your blender. A splash of water (or even extra espresso) is totally fine to help it blend. Still counts as a Frozen Espresso Martini in my book 😄

  19. User avatar vernon.stroman4 says:

    5 stars
Yummy! I added a dash of vanilla extract. Divine!

  20. User avatar rico.mckenzie28 says:

    4 stars
Yum! Perfect dessert drink, but I wish I had known to use chilled vodka. I just used room temp. Still delish!

  21. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

    1 star
Uhm, is it supposed to be frothy? Mine just looked like coffee sludge. What did I do wrong?

    1. User avatar roselle.fahey says:

      2 stars
I thought espresso made it creamy, but mine turned out thick too! Likely too much ice or not enough liquid? Dunno.

    2. User avatar janelle.krajcik says:

      4 stars
It sounds like you might not have blended it long enough! You need to really whip it up to get that frothy texture. Just give it another go!

  22. User avatar King Vegeta says:

    2 stars
I only had instant espresso and it turned out weirdly flat, like coffee flavored ice. Freshly brewed espresso is a must, I think.

    1. User avatar Deep Thought says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—fresh espresso makes a huge difference. Instant can taste kinda… watered down? Mine ended up more like coffee ice too. Next time I’ll brew a shot and cool it like the recipe says.

  23. User avatar asa.gusikowski says:

    1 star
I didn’t have any vodka, so I tried with rum, and it was awful! 😝

  24. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    5 stars
Yum! Tastes like dessert but with a kick! Will definitely make again.

    1. User avatar sabra.farrell1998 says:

      3 stars
Looks good, but isn’t espresso martini usually served shaken, not blended? Seems kinda weird to me.

    2. User avatar clarissa.grimes says:

      5 stars
I made this for my friends and they loved it too! Perfect for parties. Thanks for sharing!

  25. 3 stars
I feel like I need more coffee flavor. Anyone else?

    1. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

      5 stars
I totally get what you mean! I always add an extra shot of espresso to mine. It’s so much better that way!

  26. User avatar brain.schinner85 says:

    3 stars
Wait, isn’t espresso martini supposed to be hot? Why is everyone blending it with ice?

  27. User avatar jarrod.champlin1952 says:

    3 stars
I dunno, it just doesn’t taste like the martinis I had on my trip to Italy. Maybe I’ll try it again.

  28. 2 stars
Martinis are for girls, I prefer beer!

    1. 4 stars
Don’t knock it till you try it! This espresso martini sounds awesome, and maybe it can change your mind about martinis!

  29. User avatar sonny.breitenberg2018 says:

    2 stars
Not my thing. I thought it would be sweeter. And the coffee flavor was too strong. Maybe I messed up the recipe.

    1. 4 stars
I get where you’re coming from! I thought it would be sweeter too, but I actually loved the coffee punch. Maybe try using more simple syrup next time?

    2. 3 stars
Hmmm, seems like you didn’t follow it right! The coffee flavor’s strong but that’s the point of espresso martinis! Mixing it wrong can ruin it, you know?

  30. User avatar basementDweller says:

    3 stars
Nice recipe! But I subbed sugar for syrup and the taste was off. Thumbs👎.

    1. User avatar sabina.haley27 says:

      4 stars
Your substitution might have changed the flavor too much! I always stick to the recipe for drinks like this.

  31. User avatar connie.green6 says:

    2 stars
Why blender? I guess shaking wouldn’t work but still feels like extra effort. Also, I didn’t have coffee liqueur so I used rum—kinda different but still fun.

    1. User avatar marine.emmerich says:

      5 stars
Blender helps it get that super frothy, martini-like texture—shaking can be messy and won’t usually get as smooth. And honestly, rum sounds like a solid swap; esp. if it still tastes good to you.

  32. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

    3 stars
I don’t really get the hype, it was just ok. My blender wasn’t working great, maybe that’s why?

  33. User avatar Meri Barton says:

    4 stars
Can I use frozen espresso instead of brewed? Just curious.

    1. 2 stars
Why would you use frozen everything? Just brew fresh espresso, much better!

    2. 4 stars
I think frozen espresso might change the texture a bit, but it could work! Just blend it well!

  34. User avatar raul.luettgen2010 says:

    2 stars
Way too sweet with 0.5 oz simple syrup. Also I used cheap vodka and I can taste it. The cocoa garnish looked cute though.

  35. 3 stars
Blending the ice made it super frothy, but my texture was slightly icy. Next time I’ll use crushed ice instead of cubes.

  36. 5 stars
This is my new favorite drink! So smooth and perfect for parties!

  37. User avatar carolann.farrell says:

    3 stars
I followed your recipe but used decaf espresso. It was okay I guess.

  38. 4 stars
So easy to make and oh so tasty! I made it for my friends, and they loved it!

  39. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, I don’t think espresso needs to be “freshly brewed” every time. I used cold brew concentrate and it still slapped.

  40. User avatar jeane.waelchi2012 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, it was kinda bitter for me. Maybe I used too much espresso?

  41. 4 stars
Looks fancy but easy. I didn’t have a proper coffee liqueur so I used a generic one and it was still good. Maybe not exactly Kahlua vibes, but close.

  42. User avatar millicent.blanda69 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have coffee liqueur, so I used chocolate syrup instead. Still good!

Absolutely delicious! The perfect pick-me-up for a night in.

    1. User avatar guy.ziemann says:

    2. User avatar donald.reinger89 says:

      3 stars
Sounds nice, but isn’t espresso martini too bitter? I prefer sweeter drinks.

  44. User avatar Dwarven Shpere says:

    4 stars
I like mine a bit sweeter! More syrup next time!

  45. User avatar delbert.nikolaus44 says:

    5 stars
Wow! Best way to wake up at the weekend!

  46. 5 stars
I literally just made this and WOW!! I feel like a fancy bartender now.

  47. 5 stars
This cocktails is sooo good! I made it for my friends and they loved it!

  48. User avatar agripina.dickens1975 says:

    1 star
This is just cold coffee… Idk, maybe I did somethin wrong.

  49. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

    2 stars
Is it supposed to be this runny? I followed the recipe exactly.

  50. User avatar darrell.feil90 says:

    5 stars
This was a hit at my party! Everyone loved it!

  51. User avatar van.hartmann says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, I messed up and didn’t let the espresso cool first. It turned more icy than frothy, but still tasted decent. Will try again correctly.

    1. User avatar kasha.cruickshank4 says:

      5 stars
Honestly that still sounds tasty! Next time letting the espresso cool should make it froth way better though. Great save and glad you’ll try it again.

  52. User avatar fredric.boyle says:

    5 stars
5 stars! Can’t wait for my next party to impress everyone!

  53. 4 stars
So easy to make! I can’t believe I never tried this before!

    1. 3 stars
Looks fancy but seems a bit complex for a drink. Can I just use instant coffee instead?

    2. 5 stars
I know right? This drink is a game changer! Perfect for after dinner.

  54. User avatar cammy.glover73 says:

    3 stars
Is it safe to drink this and take a nap? Asking for a friend.

  55. User avatar marcella.collins1 says:

    5 stars
This is dangerously easy. Blending it makes it frothy like a café drink. 10/10 for a quick dessert cocktail.

    1. User avatar cary.mayer18 says:

      5 stars
Dangerously easy is right 😄 Blended frothy espresso martini is the best—might try it with a little extra cocoa on top.

  56. User avatar Sherrie DuBuque says:

    5 stars
Two words: total bliss! I told all my friends about it.

  57. User avatar sherron.jacobi94 says:

    4 stars
Honestly, the espresso cooled part matters. I rushed it once and it tasted a bit bitter. When I let it cool, it was perfect.

  58. User avatar lia.cremin33 says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why people make these at home. Espresso + vodka + liqueur sounds like you’re just making a mess, lol. But I guess it works.

    1. User avatar aisha.rosenbaum says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean, but I tried it once and it was… shockingly good? Like dessert coffee. Maybe less “mess” and more “drinks with vibes,” lol.

    2. User avatar sanford.klocko91 says:

      5 stars
Honestly it’s not messy at all—just blend, pour, done. Chilling the vodka helps a ton and the froth is way better than ordering sometimes.

  59. User avatar kenneth.haag51 says:

    1 star
Yea I’m not really a fan of coffee in drinks. Pass for me.

  60. User avatar jacquetta.bogisich says:

    4 stars
I added a touch more simple syrup than the recipe, because my espresso was a little bitter. Still came out great and frothy.

  61. 2 stars
Tasted good but kinda too strong for my taste. More syrup next time?

    1. User avatar dot.medhurst1972 says:

      4 stars
I totally get that! I think it’s all about personal preference. Could try adding more syrup next time!

  62. User avatar Bilbo Baggins says:

    4 stars
Warning: 1/2 ounce simple syrup is NOT enough for everyone—taste first. I added more and it balanced way better with the liqueur.

  63. User avatar lilli.lynch75 says:

    2 stars
Meh… tasted mostly like vodka and not enough coffee. I think my espresso was weak? Also cocoa dusting helped but it’s not a 5/5 for me.

  64. User avatar conrad.johns2012 says:

    2 stars
Espresso + vodka + coffee liqueur in a blender sounds like a gimmick. Like… where’s the shaking? I feel like this would be too thick.

    1. 2 stars
Blender espresso martini? sounds like overkill 😅 I’d rather shake it with ice in a shaker. Also vodka + coffee liqueur already thick—this might turn into sludge. Nah, I’m skeptical.

    2. User avatar aron.kemmer says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean, but the blender is basically the “shaking” part—crushed ice makes it frothy and light. If it’s getting thick, add a bit more ice or blend a touch less long.

  65. User avatar shalanda.zboncak says:

    3 stars
I followed step 2 exactly, but I swear my blender struggled with the ice. Ended up with chunks—still good, just not silky.

  66. User avatar jorge.schinner63 says:

    3 stars
I’m not a fan of vodka, so I substituted it with rum. Tasted fine but not the same!

  67. User avatar alisa.koss2 says:

    4 stars
Nothin’ beats this drink! Made it after work and felt like a real barista. 😁

    1. User avatar regena.braun1996 says:

      2 stars
Looks good but I bet it’s too strong. I prefer drinks that don’t taste like coffee.

    2. User avatar wellRespected says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This drink is the bomb! I felt so fancy making it. 🍸

  68. 3 stars
Is it supposed to be that strong? I think I made it too alcoholic. Still, I kept drinking it… so that’s on me.

  69. User avatar frances.strosin2023 says:

    4 stars
Are there any alternatives to vodka? I don’t like it.

    1. User avatar Feral Falmer says:

      4 stars
You could try using gin or rum instead. They might give you a different twist that you’ll like! 😊

  70. User avatar alonso.mcglynn35 says:

    5 stars
This is actually better than most store-bought versions. The coffee beans on top make it feel fancy even when you’re in pajamas.

  71. User avatar herb.hill36 says:

    5 stars
This was so good! My friends loved it at the party. Definitely making it again!

    1. 5 stars
I’m glad you loved it! I made it last weekend too, and it was a hit! Such a great drink for parties.

    2. 2 stars
Sounds good, but is it really that easy? I tried a recipe like this once and it was a disaster. I’ll stick to my beer.

  72. User avatar damian.langworth1953 says:

    5 stars
Tried this tonight—way better than I expected. The chilled vodka + frothy blender situation is perfect. Cocoa dust on top was a nice touch.

  73. 4 stars
The ratio feels spot on. Next time I’ll blend a bit longer to get the ice fully crushed—mine was slightly icy.

  74. User avatar lavette.kuhn1975 says:

    4 stars
So easy to make! I’ve never blended drinks before. Cheers!

    1. User avatar evon.mcglynn2008 says:

      5 stars
This drink is just the best! I’ve made it a few times and it’s always a hit. Great job!

    2. User avatar boris.monahan says:

      3 stars
Really? Blending drinks seems pretty easy but I’ve never had a good outcome. How do you not mess it up?

  75. User avatar drucilla.bartoletti1972 says:

    4 stars
Coffee beans as garnish look fancy but I always forget them. Also, cocoa dusting gets everywhere—like actual tiny brown snow.

  76. 3 stars
Mine turned out more like a coffee slush than a martini, but still tasty. Probably my espresso wasn’t cooled enough.

  77. 2 stars
Too much coffee flavor for me. I was hoping for more sweetness. Maybe less espresso next time?

    1. User avatar steve_maga says:

      4 stars
I totally get that! I like my drinks a little sweeter too. Maybe add some whipped cream on top next time? 😊

  78. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    2 stars
This was way too strong for my taste. I could barely finish it.

  79. 4 stars
I was worried 2 oz vodka would overpower the coffee, but it balanced out nicely. I added a tiny bit more simple syrup though—my espresso was kinda bitter.

  80. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

    2 stars
I added too much espresso once and it was just bitter—no forgiveness. Also my blender smelled like coffee for a day 😂

    1. User avatar dorris.cruickshank2003 says:

      4 stars
I think you should just reduce the espresso and maybe add more simple syrup. Also I don’t blend—just shake in a shaker with ice and it still tastes the same.

    2. User avatar Captain Ginyu says:

      5 stars
Haha yes! Too much espresso can go straight from “robust” to “bitter brick.” Your Blender Coffee Days™ are the real warning label 😂

  81. User avatar carlo.rath88 says:

    5 stars
Tried this tonight—super smooth and actually tastes like a real espresso martini. Chilling the vodka made a noticeable difference.

    1. User avatar raul.gulgowski says:

      3 stars
Huh, I didn’t chill the vodka (oops) and mine tasted more like coffee with alcohol than a martini 😅 Still good though. Might try again with chilled vodka.

    2. User avatar johnna.dach2006 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I did the same chilling step and it was way smoother. The espresso flavor really comes through—nice recipe.

  82. User avatar oscar.hahn86 says:

    3 stars
Do you really need the simple syrup? Seems unnecessary!

Nah, you can skip it! The vodka and espresso are strong enough. Simple syrup ain’t necessary, trust me.

I think the simple syrup balances out the strong coffee flavors. You might want to try it before deciding! 😊

Tried this last night—so smooth and not overly sweet. The chilled vodka trick really helps. Would 100% make again.

Perfect for summer evenings! I added a sprinkle of cinnamon and it was amazing!

Not gonna lie, I thought it would be too strong, but the coffee liqueur balances it well. Great dessert-drink vibe.

Why vodka instead of like, rum or something? It tastes kinda like coffee tonic to me, not really a martini. I’m probably doing it wrong though.

I used instant espresso because I didn’t have brewed, and it tasted kinda burnt/metallic. I’d only do it with fresh espresso again.

Simple and honestly pretty tasty. I used 0.5 oz less simple syrup because my espresso was already sweet, and it came out great.

I used a bit less simple syrup and it still came out dessert-y. Great after-dinner drink, and the froth is legit.

Not sure about the measurements… 0.5 oz simple syrup to taste sounds vague. I eyeballed it and it might’ve been too sweet, but it was still enjoyable.

My blender was not powerful enough, so it wasn’t as smooth. Flavor-wise it was good though—just needed more patience.

Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about the ‘to taste’ syrup—mine ended up too sweet the first time. Still enjoyable, just adjust carefully.

Tried this last night—super smooth and the espresso flavor really comes through. I used a bit less simple syrup and it was perfect.

Tried this tonight—so smooth and actually tastes like a real espresso martini. Chilling the vodka helped a lot. Will make again for sure.

Super easy, but I don’t have a martini glass so I used a coupe—still tasted great. Also, the foam disappeared fast though.

This is dangerously easy. I swapped in cold brew concentrate and it still turned out really nice and creamy.

Nice idea but mine was too strong and I think I blended it too long 😅 Next time I’ll chill everything more and go shorter.

I’m usually skeptical about “frozen” cocktails but this one actually works. Next time I’ll chill the glass first like the recipe says.

Totally agree—“frozen” drinks get watered down so fast, but blending crushed ice with good, cooled espresso really helps. Chilling the glass first is such a simple upgrade.

I’m still not convinced lol. Frozen espresso martinis always end up tasting like coffee-flavored ice water to me. Maybe I’m blending wrong—how long are you blending? Also is it 1 cup of ice or 1 cup crushed? (Recipe says “cubed” too, so confusing.)
