Creamy Corn Chowder

March 3, 2026

Creamy Corn Chowder is a comforting, hearty soup that combines the natural sweetness of fresh corn with a rich, velvety broth. Perfect for chilly days or a cozy weeknight dinner, this chowder is both satisfying and flavorful, offering a balance of creamy texture and bright, sweet corn notes in every spoonful.

The base of the chowder typically starts with sautéed onions, garlic, and celery, which add depth and aromatic flavor. Cubed potatoes or carrots are often included to provide body and substance, creating a hearty texture that complements the tender kernels of corn. The addition of cream, milk, or a combination of both gives the soup its signature richness, while a touch of butter enhances the smooth, comforting mouthfeel.

Fresh corn is the star of the dish, either cut directly from the cob or added from a high-quality canned or frozen option. Sweet corn kernels infuse the chowder with natural sugar and a vibrant flavor, while some recipes blend a portion of the soup to create an extra creamy consistency without losing the bite of whole kernels. Herbs like thyme or parsley and seasonings such as salt, pepper, and a pinch of paprika elevate the flavor, giving the chowder warmth and complexity.

Creamy Corn Chowder is versatile and can be enjoyed on its own or paired with crusty bread, cornbread, or a light salad for a complete meal. Some variations include diced bacon or ham for a smoky, savory element that contrasts beautifully with the sweetness of the corn.

This chowder is not only delicious but also simple to prepare, making it ideal for busy nights or when entertaining guests. Its rich, creamy texture, combined with the natural sweetness of corn and the subtle savory undertones from vegetables and seasonings, creates a comforting dish that appeals to all ages.

Creamy Corn Chowder proves that simple ingredients can create something extraordinary. Each spoonful delivers a balance of creamy, sweet, and savory flavors, making it a timeless, crowd-pleasing soup that warms both the body and the soul.

Pretty good overall. I used frozen corn and it still tasted fresh. Mine needed a little extra salt at the end, but that might be my broth brand.

    1. 5 stars
Glad it worked for you! Frozen corn usually does fine—adding a little extra salt at the end totally makes sense depending on the broth brand.

  2. User avatar lonny.funk says:

    2 stars
I dunno, I feel like it could use more flavor…was bland for me.

  3. User avatar Eddie the Computer says:

Corn chowder? Sounds like something my grandma used to make, but I don’t remember it being this good! 10/10!

  4. User avatar huey.lesch92 says:

    3 stars
Could’ve sworn chowder was supposed to have potatoes?? This left me confused.

  5. User avatar Jackqueline Corkery says:

Simple ingredients but wow, this recipe is a hit in my house! I added some bacon bits too.

    1. User avatar Grandpa Gohan says:

      5 stars
Bacon bits? Now that’s a genius addition! I’ll have to try that next time. Sounds yummy!

  6. User avatar demarcus.berge26 says:

Chowder or soup? 😆 doesn’t matter, this was delish! I’ll make it again!

    5 stars
Absolutely loved this chowder! It’s creamy and perfect for a cold day.

  8. User avatar floria.murphy20 says:

I tried this but it came out too thick. Maybe I added too much cream? Not sure.

  9. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

i made this for dinner and the kids hated it, guess they just don’t like corn. 🙁

  10. User avatar juan.marks76 says:

    5 stars
Yummy! I added some crispy bacon on top and it was amazing!

    1. User avatar Ryuu Shenlong says:

      5 stars
Bacon?! That’s genius! I never thought of that for chowder. Can’t wait to try it!

  11. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    3 stars
The instructions say simmer 10 minutes and then add cream for 5—mine got a little too thick by the end. I’m guessing my corn was extra starchy? Still edible though!

    1. User avatar imogene.pacocha36 says:

      4 stars
That sounds really plausible—starchy corn can thicken chowders fast. Next time maybe simmer a couple minutes less or add a splash more broth/cream at the end before blending.

  12. User avatar bruna.altenwerth1970 says:

    4 stars
Loved it! I added some jalapeños for a kick! Spicy corn chowder is the best! 🔥

  13. User avatar luisa.lebsack says:

COULDN’T FIND CHICKEN BROTH IN THE STORE, HAD TO USE VEGGIE BROTH. STILL TURNED OUT GREAT!

  14. User avatar gema.littel says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I think 10 minutes simmer is too short? The flavor felt kinda flat. I simmered longer and it improved. Still, would not call it “rich” like restaurant chowder.

  15. 4 stars
Very easy to make! Family loved it! Will definitely make it again. Thanks for the recipe!

    1. User avatar haywood.pfannerstill15 says:

      3 stars
Sounds good, but is it really that easy? I find cooking takes more time sometimes. 🤔

    2. User avatar grady.bahringer says:

      5 stars
I’m glad you and your family enjoyed it! This chowder is a real winner. 😊

This chowder is amazing! So creamy and delicious! I added some bacon bits and it took it to the next level.

    1. User avatar bulah.lehner says:

      5 stars
Bacon bits! That’s genius! I would have never thought of that. I’m gonna try it next time!

  18. User avatar adela.lueilwitz says:

    4 stars
This is basic but reliable. I like that it doesn’t call for flour to thicken—just blend and let the corn do its thing.

    1. User avatar omar.howell58 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—corn thickens it without any extra flour messing things up. The immersion blender step is key too.

  19. 3 stars
Not bad but I messed up and pureed it too much… now it’s like creamy corn soup 😅 Still tasty though! Next time I’ll blend less for texture.

  20. User avatar mervin.auer74 says:

    4 stars
Really solid recipe. The onions at 5 minutes were perfect, and the simmer time didn’t make it watery. Will make again when it’s cold out.

  21. User avatar george.kling2003 says:

    2 stars
Eew, it was too thick! I prefer my chowder not to be like glue. I’m sticking to my regular recipes.

    1. User avatar bernadette.pagac75 says:

      3 stars
Glue? Really? I thought it was perfect! You just need to blend it less if you want it thinner. Just sayin’.

    2. User avatar Slaughterfish says:

      4 stars
I think the thickness depends on how you blend it. I like mine a bit thicker, but maybe try less cream next time?

  22. 2 stars
I love corn chowder, but this one just didn’t hit right for me. My kids didn’t even finish their bowls!

  23. User avatar sari.kreiger38 says:

    1 star
Uhhhhh, This is just corn and milk? What’s the big deal? I’ll stick to my chili.

  24. User avatar lenna.stamm says:

    5 stars
The immersion blender step is key—before that it was basically soup with corn chunks. After blending, it felt restaurant-quality.

    1. 4 stars
Totally agree on the blend step, but I kinda rush it sometimes. Still good tho. Also I used milk instead of heavy cream and it was a little thinner—next time I’ll do cream.

    2. 5 stars
Yes! I tried it once without blending and it was… fine, but not nearly as creamy. The immersion blender really makes it chowder-y.

  25. User avatar lucius.stamm says:

    5 stars
Pretty easy. I did it in one pot and didn’t even need to wash much after. My family went back for seconds.

  26. User avatar lauren.block says:

    1 star
Hmmm, too many steps for me. Can’t I just dump everything in the pot and hope it works?

    1. User avatar sarai.schumm says:

      4 stars
You can try that, but it might not turn out as creamy or flavorful! 😅

  27. 5 stars
This chowder is amazing! So creamy and delicious. A perfect comfort food for winter. 😋

    1. User avatar lourie.luettgen says:

      5 stars
I made it last night and it turned out great! Thanks for sharing! 😊

  28. 3 stars
Yum! But I think corn chowder need more spices or somethin’ to make it pop!

    1. User avatar domingo.kiehn95 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! A pinch of cayenne or some smoked paprika could really enhance the flavor. I’m gonna try that next time!

  29. User avatar arden.lindgren3 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—so comforting. I used frozen corn and it still tasted super sweet. Blending it a bit thicker like “half puree” was perfect.

    1. User avatar w00d_ch0p says:

      5 stars
Glad it worked for you! Frozen corn can be sweeter depending on the brand, so thickening it a bit makes total sense—nice tweak.

    2. User avatar billy.considine1987 says:

      3 stars
Maybe I’m missing something, but my chowder didn’t taste sweet at all when I made it. I pureed it all the way and it turned kinda gluey 😅 Next time I’ll try the half-puree thing.

  30. 5 stars
So comforting! I used frozen corn and it still tasted super fresh. Pureeing it made it perfectly creamy without being heavy.

  31. User avatar luvenia.boyer26 says:

    5 stars
    yum!

  32. 3 stars
This was mid. I tried to puree but my blender just made it frothy lol. Next time I’ll do fewer pulses. Taste was okay though.

  33. User avatar joel.erdman1989 says:

    5 stars
This chowder was a hit at dinner! Super creamy and the corn flavor shines through! 🌽

  34. 5 stars
This turned out so cozy and creamy! I used frozen corn and it still tasted super fresh. The immersion blend step is key—perfect texture.

  35. User avatar shaniqua.mclaughlin86 says:

    5 stars
Made this for dinner last night and it turned out sooo creamy. The immersion blender step is key—so satisfying. I used frozen corn and didn’t adjust anything, still great!

  36. User avatar cristen.cole17 says:

    3 stars
I thought this was kinda bland. Needs more seasoning or something. I added some cayenne pepper and that helped a bit.

    1. User avatar Falmer Gloomlurker says:

      4 stars
I completely agree! It definitely needs that extra kick. I usually add garlic and some smokey spices to mine too.

    2. User avatar deana.wiegand63 says:

      2 stars
Bland? I thought it was just fine. Maybe you just don’t like this kinda flavor?

  37. User avatar rozella.funk28 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know… it didn’t have much flavor for me. Maybe I need to add more spices? It’s just okay.

  38. User avatar damon.oreilly says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about only simmering 10 minutes—doesn’t the corn need longer? It came out fine, but the onion flavor felt a bit mild compared to other chowders I’ve tried.

  39. User avatar odette.leffler2019 says:

    4 stars
Followed it exactly and it came out thick and delicious. Only thing: my heavy cream wouldn’t fully blend so I stirred like crazy. Still won’t stop making it.

  40. User avatar Dr. Georgiann Spinka says:

    3 stars
Really good chowder but I think I messed up the cream step. It turned all lumpy. 🤷‍♀️

  41. 4 stars
Can you use frozen corn? I have that instead of fresh, so hope it works.

  42. 3 stars
Not sure about the heavy cream/milk part—mine curdled slightly when I boiled it too hard. Turned out okay after lowering the heat, but heads up to not overcook the dairy.

  43. User avatar naoma.leffler says:

    3 stars
Creamy and gooood, but my blender broke! Had to mash it with a fork. Still good but not as smooth.

  44. User avatar Janey Schaefer says:

    5 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about pureeing everything—turns out I was wrong. The immersion blender makes it silky.

  45. User avatar bibi.larson46 says:

    3 stars
I accidentally blended it too long, so it went almost completely smooth. Still good, just not chowder-y, more like soup-smooth.

  46. 2 stars
Eh, it was fine, but I expected more flavor. Also 1 cup onion felt like too much? Maybe depends on the onion size.

  47. 3 stars
I followed it pretty much exactly, but mine was kinda bland. I ended up adding more pepper and a little garlic powder—then it tasted great.

  48. User avatar selma.effertz says:

    5 stars
Wow, this is delish! I added some bacon bits on top and it took it to a whole new level. Highly recommend! 😊

  49. User avatar Mrs. Lorilee Spencer says:

    2 stars
I followed it exactly and it turned out bland. Maybe my pepper was weak? Also, 1 cup cream vs milk might matter a lot—mine was low-fat milk and it didn’t feel as rich.

  50. User avatar Samwise Gamgee says:

    4 stars
5 minutes of onions seems too quick. I cooked mine until I could smell them caramelizing, then everything tasted richer.

  51. User avatar my.koelpin68 says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps exactly and it turned out good, though mine was a bit bland until I added more black pepper than the recipe said. Maybe my salt was weak?

  52. 5 stars
I was skeptical about how much chowder you can get from just corn + cream, but wow. Thick and comforting. Next time I’ll add bacon bits for crunch.

    1. User avatar Mr. Kelly Kertzmann says:

      5 stars
I was skeptical too—corn chowder sounded kinda bland. But thick + creamy is exactly right. I always blend a bit longer for extra body.

  53. User avatar noel.bartoletti51 says:

    5 stars
So creamy! I used frozen corn and it worked just fine! Will def make again!

  54. User avatar Lord Jabu-Jabu says:

    1 star
Corn chowder? What kind of weird name is that? Why not just call it soup??

    1. User avatar garrett.wiza92 says:

      4 stars
I think chowder has a creamier texture than just plain soup. It’s like next level soup! 😋

    2. 3 stars
It’s just a fancy name! Soup is soup, chowder is chowder! Why complicate things lol.

  55. 3 stars
It was okay, but maybe a bit too rich for my taste. I prefer lighter soups.

    1. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

      3 stars
Rich is the best! More flavor, right? Just add some more veggies if you want it lighter! I make it all the time.

    2. User avatar Ms. Geoffrey Rosenbaum says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! I like my soups a bit lighter too. Have you tried using a low-fat milk instead of heavy cream? Might help!

  56. User avatar jayson.braun says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about pureeing all of it—seems like it would lose the texture. But honestly, it still tasted good even with a rough blend.

    1. User avatar angelique.schaefer says:

      5 stars
Totally get your skepticism. I’ve found the texture is way better if you only puree a portion—like pulse half and leave the rest chunky.

    2. User avatar tyree.douglas says:

      2 stars
Wait… isn’t it better if you just blend it smooth tho? I tried it rough once and it felt kinda watery, maybe I did something wrong 😅

  57. User avatar mikel.trantow says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—super comforting. I used frozen corn and it still tasted sweet and fresh. The immersion blender step makes it perfect.

  58. User avatar Michael83 says:

    4 stars
I made this last night and it was sooo easy! I always mess up recipes but this one was simple! Yum! 🥳

    1. User avatar merrill.schmeler43 says:

      2 stars
I find it hard to believe this is easy. It’s just a soup, but still seems like a lot of work. 🤔

    2. User avatar stephani.stehr1971 says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I’m glad it worked out for you! I can’t wait to try it myself! 🥰

  59. User avatar margit.kunze40 says:

Half my family liked it, the other half said it tasted like baby food. Not making again.

  60. User avatar danny.mills34 says:

    5 stars
    Amazing. 10/10

  61. User avatar mitchell.hegmann says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, I thought it was a bit too rich. Maybe less cream next time? 🤔

  62. User avatar ezekiel.klein36 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have chicken broth, so I used vegetable broth instead. Still turned out nice!

    1. User avatar marcellus.reichert24 says:

      5 stars
Using vegetable broth sounds like a great idea! I love that you adapted the recipe to what you had. Can’t wait to try it myself!

    2. User avatar vesta.bogan says:

      2 stars
Really? Vegetable broth? Is that even gonna taste right? I thought chicken broth was crucial for flavor… 🤔

  63. User avatar Lunkwill and Fook says:

    4 stars
I’m not a fan of corn, but my kids devoured it!! So, I guess it’s a win!

  64. User avatar tynisha.lueilwitz50 says:

    2 stars
Too salty for me. I think I added too much salt. Be careful with that!

  65. User avatar keren.boehm says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but 2 cups corn feels like it’s missing something—next time I’ll add a little diced potato or a pinch of paprika for depth. Still, great easy weeknight soup.

  66. User avatar Kalm Yu'ogh says:

    4 stars
Couldn’t get the immersion blender to work right (mine’s ancient lol). I ended up mashing with a fork—still turned out creamy enough for me.

  67. 5 stars
Made this tonight—so easy and honestly way more flavorful than I expected. The immersion blender step is key; it turns out perfectly creamy.

  68. User avatar wilmer.goodwin says:

    2 stars
I followed it exactly and it turned out bland for me. Maybe my black pepper was weak? Also I pureed too smooth and it kind of felt like corn soup instead of chowder.

  69. User avatar Android 20 says:

    3 stars
Eh… 2 cups corn seems like a lot, but when simmered it disappears. Maybe I measured wrong? Anyway taste was okay.

  70. 5 stars
So comforting! My family ate it in like 2 minutes 😂

    1. 4 stars
Wait, you only simmer 10 minutes? I feel like the corn should be cooked way longer… but if your family crushed it in 2 minutes then I guess I’m wrong 😅

    2. User avatar joe_banana says:

      5 stars
😂 Love that! Creamy chowder disappears fast in my house too.

  71. 5 stars
5 stars. That first spoonful—wow. Will make again, no question. Also, my kid actually ate it lol.

    1. 4 stars
I tried it but I think I overdid the blender step… it turned kinda like corn soup paste? Still tasted good though. Will try again with less pureeing.

    2. 5 stars
Haha love that—“kid actually ate it” is the best review. This chowder is so comforting. 😄

  72. User avatar ayako.langworth2019 says:

    5 stars
This chowder is so creamy and delicious! My family loved it!

  73. User avatar jeramy.toy78 says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty closely, but I think 1 tsp salt might be too much if your broth is already seasoned. I ended up cutting it down.

    1. User avatar brandon.romaguera85 says:

      5 stars
Yeah I agree—if the broth has any seasoning, that 1 tsp can push it over. I always taste first before adding salt. Glad you cut it down!

    2. 3 stars
I mean, salt is salt… but honestly I’ve never noticed it being “too much.” Low sodium broth + 1 tsp still seems normal to me. Did you use regular broth by accident?

  74. User avatar Shadowfax says:

    5 stars
Why chicken broth? I tried it with vegetable broth and it was fine, but the chicken version tastes way richer. Will make again.

    1. User avatar Manual Mills DDS says:

      4 stars
Interesting! I always swap in veggie broth, but maybe I’ll try chicken next time. Is it “richer” like more gelatin-y mouthfeel?

    2. 5 stars
Totally agree—chicken broth really does make it taste deeper and more savory. I use low-sodium chicken broth too so I can control the salt.

  75. User avatar weldon.murphy1990 says:

    4 stars
I used frozen corn and 2% milk instead of heavy cream. Still came out good, but I think next time I’ll go heavier on the cream for that thicker texture.

  76. 4 stars
Pretty good base recipe. Mine was a little bland until I added more pepper and a pinch of garlic powder. Also simmered the onion a couple extra minutes and it tasted sweeter.

  77. 2 stars
I dunno, seems kinda easy. Is it really that good? Looks basic.

    1. User avatar kristofer.fadel says:

      4 stars
Looks easy, but simple doesn’t mean it ain’t good! Sometimes the best things are the simplest.

    2. User avatar van.dickinson85 says:

      5 stars
I thought the same at first, but trust me, it tastes amazing! It’s all about the seasoning. Give it a try!

  78. User avatar Dominic Vernius says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps and it came out bland until I added more pepper and a tiny pinch of smoked paprika. Then it was amazing.

    1. User avatar trish.greenholt70 says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—corn chowder can be kinda mild even with the salt/pepper. Your smoked paprika tip is genius though. I might try adding a little extra pepper right at the end like you did.

  79. 2 stars
I followed it exactly and honestly it was kinda bland. I know it says salt to taste, but I ended up adding much more than 1 tsp.

  80. User avatar leo.ernser27 says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—so comforting. The immersion blending is key; it turns into the perfect creamy texture without feeling heavy. I added a pinch of smoked paprika too and it was even better.

    1. User avatar paul.towne says:

      5 stars
Yes!! The immersion blender really is the secret. I’ve made it a few times and it always comes out silky like that—never too heavy.

  81. User avatar gil.halvorson62 says:

    2 stars
The ratios are easy, but I burned my onions a little because I got distracted. Luckly it didn’t ruin everything… mostly. 😅

  82. User avatar Michael83 says:

Pretty basic, not gonna lie. Tastes fine, but mine needed more salt and maybe a pinch of garlic or paprika. Would I make it again? Probably, but only as a quick weeknight thing.

I used milk instead of heavy cream (ran out). It was still tasty, but definitely thinner. Still, it’s easy and cheap—would make again.

No way—how can this be chowder without potatoes? 😅 I know it says corn chowder, but still. Flavor was okay, just not what I expected.

This is fine but kinda… basic. Onion + corn + cream is like the soup version of comfort food wallpaper. Would love bacon or cheddar next time.

Low sodium broth is key, or else it gets salty fast. I used regular broth once and regretted it. Still delicious though.

Really good, but I felt it needed a little extra pepper and maybe a splash more cream at the end. Still, the flavor is great.

Glad you liked it! Totally agree—pepper can really wake up the corn, and a little extra splash of cream at the end makes it extra silky. I might try that next time.

So creamy and comforting—used frozen corn and it still tasted fresh. I blended it a bit less than suggested and loved the texture.

Yes!! The immersion blender step makes it so silky. Love that you used frozen corn and it still worked—more people should try that.

Not bad, but 2 cups of corn feels like a lot. Next time I’ll do 1.5 cups so it’s less “corn-forward.”

Not bad, but my chowder turned out a bit thin even after blending. Next time I’ll simmer a little longer or use less broth.

Pretty solid recipe. I simmered a little longer because my corn was thicker, but overall the flavor was great and not too salty.

Glad it turned out great for you! Thicker corn definitely needs a bit more time—nice call on simmering longer. 👍

I don’t own an immersion blender 😅 so I mashed with a fork. Texture was still nice, just chunkier. Would recommend!

Nice—chunkier chowder is totally valid. I always do a partial mash too when I don’t feel like blending. 😄

Could’ve used more flavor—maybe some garlic or smoked paprika would help. Corn + cream is nice but kinda plain on its own.

One star bc my onion didnt get translucent in 5 min lol. I think my pan was too hot. Recipe should say medium low maybe.

I used milk instead of heavy cream and it still worked, though it wasn’t as thick. Would probably go half-and-half next time.

The cooking times are off? Like 3 minutes for corn feels too short, but I guess if it’s frozen it’s fine. I simmered a little longer just in case.

I don’t have an immersion blender, so I mashed some corn with a fork. Worked in a pinch, though the texture was slightly uneven. Still tasty!

The timing seems a little off—my onions took closer to 8-10 minutes to get translucent. But once it was simmering, it smelled amazing.

This is dangerously good. I made it for dinner and ended up eating like half the pot. Would definitely make again.

1 teaspoon salt “to taste” is vague. I added too much at first and had to dilute with more broth, so go easy.

Not sure about the pureeing part. I pulsed it less than suggested and it was still chunky, which I guess I liked, but it didn’t feel “chowder-y” enough.

Pretty good base recipe. I added a pinch of smoked paprika and it gave it a nice depth. Next time I might simmer 2-3 minutes longer.
