Chicken and Wild Rice Bake

December 31, 2024

Chicken and wild rice bake is a comforting, one-pan dish that brings together tender chicken, nutty wild rice, and a creamy, flavorful sauce. This dish is the perfect balance of protein, grains, and vegetables, offering a satisfying meal that’s both wholesome and delicious. It’s ideal for busy weeknights or a cozy weekend dinner when you want something hearty and full of flavor without too much effort.

To start, boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs are seasoned and seared to lock in flavor. The chicken can be seasoned simply with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a bit of thyme, or you can get creative with other herbs like rosemary or sage to complement the earthy flavors of the wild rice. After searing, the chicken is set aside, and the wild rice is cooked separately, either on the stovetop or in the oven, to ensure it’s tender and fluffy.

The creamy sauce that ties everything together is typically made from a combination of chicken broth, cream, or sour cream, along with a bit of flour to thicken it. You can also add sautéed onions, garlic, and even mushrooms for extra depth of flavor. The wild rice is then mixed with the creamy sauce, and the chicken is placed on top of the rice mixture in a baking dish. The entire dish is baked in the oven until the chicken is fully cooked and the rice has absorbed all the rich, flavorful sauce.

The result is a creamy, savory dish with tender chicken, perfectly cooked wild rice, and a rich, comforting sauce. The wild rice adds a slight nuttiness, and the vegetables, such as carrots or celery, bring a touch of sweetness and crunch to balance the richness of the sauce.

This meal is an easy, one-pan meal that’s perfect for feeding a family or a group of friends. It’s a crowd-pleasing dish that combines simple ingredients into a hearty, satisfying dinner, and it’s a great way to make the most of chicken and rice in a delicious, comforting way.

Is there any reason to use wild rice? This could be better with white rice. tried it but didn’t taste great.

Wild rice is more nutritious than white rice. Plus it has a nuttier flavor! Give it another shot and you might come around.

    2. 4 stars
I actually think wild rice adds a nice texture and flavor! White rice can be so plain. But I guess it’s a matter of taste. 🦆

Good recipe, but my version turned out a bit dry. Might just need more broth next time.

    1. 4 stars
Adding more broth sounds like a good idea! I had a similar issue, but my wife said it’s perfectly moist! It’s all about personal preference.

Hmmm, I think this is too much mushroom flavor for me. Not a fan. Next time I’ll skip the soup. 😕

I had the same problem with the rice! It took way longer for it to cook. Maybe it’s the type of wild rice we used?

Looks good, but I’m not sure about wild rice. Isn’t it just a bit chewy? Not everyone likes that texture. Just saying.

Y’all, I burnt mine so bad! The foil must’ve been off too long. 😭 But what I managed to eat was pretty good. Next time, I’ll watch it closer!

  24. 5 stars
Best chicken recipe I’ve made in a while! Added some garlic for flavor. Yum!

I’ve had issues with wild rice too! Make sure you give it enough liquid and cooking time, maybe let it soak a bit before baking?

    2. User avatar echo.king11 says:

      3 stars
Maybe you didn’t use enough broth? Wild rice takes time to cook right. Recipe’s good but follow it exactly.

  26. 3 stars
Wut u mean chicken broth low sodium? I used regular, I think it tasted fine. People overthinking it.

  27. User avatar jayson.krajcik says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have chicken broth, so I used beef broth. It was different, but still good!

  28. 3 stars
I made it without the mushrooms… was still good but kinda plain. Next time I’m putting more veggies.

  29. 3 stars
Not bad, but a bit bland. Needs spices or something… like thyme maybe?
