Bird’s Nest Treats

April 9, 2025

Bird’s Nest Treats are a delightful, no-bake snack that is both fun to make and delicious to eat, making them the perfect addition to your Easter celebrations. These sweet, crunchy nests resemble the cozy homes of birds and are filled with colorful candy eggs, making them a festive treat that both kids and adults will love. Whether you’re hosting an Easter party, participating in an Easter egg hunt, or simply looking for a fun snack, Bird’s Nest Treats are sure to be a hit.

The base of these treats is typically made with crispy chow mein noodles or cornflakes, which provide a light, crunchy texture. The noodles or flakes are coated with a mixture of melted chocolate or butterscotch chips and peanut butter, which helps to bind the ingredients together and add a rich, sweet flavor. Once the mixture has cooled slightly, it is shaped into little nest-like formations on a baking sheet or parchment paper.

To complete the nests, colorful candy eggs, such as jelly beans or chocolate eggs, are placed in the center of each nest, mimicking the appearance of real bird’s eggs. These treats can be made in various sizes, from mini nests to larger ones, depending on your preference. The fun part is getting creative with the decoration, adding sprinkles, shredded coconut (dyed green for a grass-like effect), or even a drizzle of extra melted chocolate.

Bird’s Nest Treats are not only a fun activity for children but also a simple, stress-free snack to prepare for any Easter gathering. They can be made in advance and stored at room temperature or in the fridge, where they will keep their shape and flavor. These no-bake treats are the perfect combination of crunchy, sweet, and colorful, making them a delightful addition to your Easter celebrations or springtime parties.

Pretty easy. I used regular peanut butter and added the eggs while it was warm-ish. It all kinda stuck together but still tasted good. 3/5, but would make again.

  2. User avatar Medigoron says:

    5 stars
These Bird’s Nest Treats are so cute! Perfect for Easter! 5 stars!

  3. 2 stars
This looks way too easy. Are you sure it tastes good? Can’t be that simple!

  4. 4 stars
Okay, I was skeptical about chow mein noodles in chocolate, but wow. It’s actually good—sweet, salty-ish, and crunchy. Only thing: I had to stir more aggressively in the microwave so it wouldn’t scorch.

  5. 4 stars
I love the idea but I accidentally used rice noodles instead. They still turned out delicious! 😂

    1. User avatar thomas.huel says:

      4 stars
Rice noodles?! That’s funny! 😂 Glad they turned out good anyway! Maybe I should try that too!

  6. User avatar Leatrice Ritchie IV says:

    3 stars
Made once and the chocolate seized a little when I microwaved—maybe my bowl was too hot? Still, the flavor was there. 2nd attempt better.

    1. User avatar alane.schmitt says:

      4 stars
That happened to me too 😬 I was stirring in between but my bowl was still warm from washing. Next time I’ll let the bowl cool first. Still tasted good though—nests are fun.

    2. User avatar gerry.ebert says:

      5 stars
Glad the 2nd try worked! Chocolate “seizing” in the microwave usually happens if it gets too hot or a tiny bit of moisture gets in—so your hot bowl theory makes sense. I’ve had better luck using slightly lower power + shorter bursts.

  7. User avatar nestor.fadel1952 says:

    3 stars
I messed up step 1 by microwaving too long once and it got a little grainy. Still tasted fine though. Also my nests kinda look like squished mountains, lol.

  8. User avatar toccara.dach34 says:

    4 stars
Honestly, I was skeptical about the chow mein + chocolate thing, but it tastes like sweet, crunchy chocolate clusters. I used dark chocolate and it worked great. Not too hard either.

  9. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    2 stars
I thought this was a dinner recipe? Why you put chocolate in noodles? Seems odd to me.

  10. User avatar clara.schmidt2000 says:

    5 stars
I made these for a party and they disappeared fast. The nests held together nicely, and the peanut butter really rounds out the sweetness. Will definitely do again next year.

  11. User avatar leif.heaney says:

    5 stars
I tried them and they were gone in minutes! Big hit at the family gathering! 🍫

    1. User avatar torrie.schmidt43 says:

      5 stars
I’m glad they were a hit! We loved them too. Super easy to make!

  12. User avatar layne.bartoletti says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about chow mein in dessert… but the texture works. Next time I’ll use a bit less chocolate so it’s not too rich.

  13. User avatar jeremy.oreilly says:

    3 stars
Mine turned out kinda sticky at first—maybe my peanut butter was too runny. After I chilled longer they firmed up, but the nests weren’t as neat.

    1. 5 stars
That makes sense—runny peanut butter would definitely make them grabby. Next time try a thicker/creamier brand and don’t skip a good chill. Neatness comes more from firming up than from shaping perfection.

    2. User avatar alberto.rodriguez92 says:

      3 stars
Ugh mine too!!! I thought I did everything right. I used what I had (like “natural” peanut butter) and it went sticky again even after chilling. Still tasted good, but the nests looked like bird spaghetti lol. Maybe I pressed the eggs too hard?

  14. User avatar Mercy Stiedemann says:

    5 stars
These are so cute! I made them for my kids and they loved it. Easy to make too!

  15. User avatar abel.hermiston2010 says:

    2 stars
You can use any chocolate, right? I used white chocolate and now its just sweet goo. Not the best.

  16. 3 stars
I followed it exactly but my chocolate seized a bit in the microwave (maybe my bowl was too hot?). Still tasted good, just a little lumpy.

    1. User avatar Dan Streetmentioner says:

      4 stars
Mine did that too once 😅 I think I stirred too late. If you keep it just melted (not scorching) it should stay smooth. Also make sure the chocolate chips are dry, no water or steam.

    2. 4 stars
Oh no—microwave chocolate can be super sensitive. A too-hot bowl or overheating in an extra-long interval can cause it to seize and go lumpy. Glad it still tasted good though! Next time, try shorter bursts and make sure the bowl isn’t preheated.

  17. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    5 stars
Just the right amount of crunchy and sweet! My family couldn’t get enough. Will make again! 😊

  18. User avatar madie.schmeler says:

    5 stars
These came out so cute! The nests were super chocolatey and the chow mein still had a nice crunch after setting. I used dark chocolate and it was perfect.

  19. User avatar nilsa.muller61 says:

    5 stars
Love love loveee! Best treat ever. I ate them all by myself! 😍

  20. 4 stars
I didn’t have candy-coated chocolate eggs, so I chopped up a chocolate bar and it still worked. Next time I’ll try the real eggs though.

    1. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      5 stars
That makes total sense—if the chocolate base is the same, swapping the eggs should still give you the “nest” vibe. I agree, next time the candy-coated ones will look even better though!

    2. User avatar Shauna Heller III says:

      3 stars
Huh, I’m skeptical. The candy shell kind of matters for the crunch and the look—chopped bar might melt differently. But if yours worked, cool. Did you chill them long enough?

  21. User avatar Usha Nader says:

    3 stars
Seems like something from a kids party or somethin’, idk if adults would like it much.

  22. 5 stars
These turned out way cuter than I expected! The chow mein stays crunchy even after setting, and the chocolate-peanut butter mix tastes amazing. I used dark chocolate and it was rich.

  23. User avatar louie.luettgen81 says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, this seems kinda random. Candy eggs in noodles? It feels like a Pinterest thing that won’t taste real. But I guess I’ll try it once.

  24. User avatar lida.kuphal says:

    2 stars
I dunno, this looks kinda weird. Not sure if I’ll try it.

    1. User avatar tamatha.kautzer75 says:

      4 stars
I thought the same thing at first, but they taste amazing! You should give them a try. They’re super fun and kids love them!

    2. 2 stars
Weird? I just don’t get it. How can noodles and chocolate go together? Seems gross to me.

  25. User avatar irmgard.swaniawski2015 says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe but it didn’t hold its shape. What did I do wrong?!

  26. User avatar delores.okuneva26 says:

    5 stars
Yum!! Got a recipe similar to this from my grandma but she used marshmallows instead. Still great!

  27. 4 stars
I’m skeptical about the whole ‘bird nest’ thing… but I made them anyway and now I’m converted. They’re cute and surprisingly not too sweet.

  28. User avatar rodney.torphy says:

    5 stars
Simple and sweet! Just my style. Kids loved making them too! 10/10 would recommend.

    1. 3 stars
Looks easy, but my kids didn’t like the noodles. Maybe I did it wrong? 🤔

    2. 5 stars
I’m glad you and the kids enjoyed it! Such a fun recipe for all ages!

  29. 4 stars
I used crunchy peanut butter and I think that changed the texture. Still good, but next time I’ll get the creamy one like the recipe says.

  30. 5 stars
These are dangerously snackable 😅 The peanut butter/chocolate combo coats the noodles perfectly and the egg centers look so cute.

  31. 4 stars
Easy to follow and honestly pretty hard to mess up. I did chill them for about 20 minutes and they set perfectly. Sweet, but not too crazy.

  32. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    5 stars
I used dark chocolate and crunchy peanut butter and it was perfect. The coating really holds together well, and the microwave method is stress-free.

  33. User avatar vivian.mitchell30 says:

    4 stars
The microwave steps worked for me, but I had to stir a lot longer than the intervals suggested. Worth it though—texture is crunchy in a good way.

  34. User avatar clinton.fisher27 says:

    4 stars
Kinda weird that it’s called “Bird’s Nest” but there’s no actual birds nest lol. Still cute and fun to make with kids.

  35. User avatar kaylee.koss90 says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, it’s a little too sweet for me with the candy eggs. If I’m doing this again I might cut the amount of chocolate chips or use less candy.

    1. User avatar lyle.collier says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—those candy-coated eggs are basically pure sugar. I’d try cutting back the eggs before touching the chow mein.

  36. User avatar Dr. Katrice Nitzsche says:

    5 stars
This is one of those recipes that feels like cheating (compliment). I made a batch with milk chocolate and it vanished immediately. Would repeat for sure.

  37. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    4 stars
Mine were a little messy and I think I scooped too big. Next time I’ll make smaller nests so the eggs sit nicer in the middle.

  38. User avatar Frost Troll says:

    3 stars
Mine turned out a little messy—like the nests spread when I scooped them. I think I didn’t let the chocolate mixture cool enough before shaping. Taste is great though!

    1. User avatar shirley.kiehn says:

      5 stars
That makes sense—if the chocolate was still a bit warm, the nests won’t hold their shape when you scoop. Next time, try chilling the mixture for like 5–10 minutes before forming. Also, shaping with a lighter touch helps (and working a little faster). Glad the taste came out great though!

  39. User avatar Thufir Hawat says:

    2 stars
I don’t think this should be called a recipe. It’s just melting stuff together.

  40. 5 stars
These are adorable—like edible Easter nests. The combo of crunchy noodles and chocolate is way better than I expected. Followed the 30-second microwave intervals and it came out smooth.

  41. 2 stars
Not gonna lie, I don’t get the hype. The texture was odd to me—too crunchy and kind of sticky. Would rather just make traditional no-bake chocolate bites.

  42. User avatar lucienne.bins63 says:

    2 stars
Why do we need microwave intervals? I just melted everything all at once and it burned the chocolate a little. The whole batch looked sad, so… learn from me, lol.

  43. User avatar jude.thompson84 says:

    4 stars
Worked great, but I had to refrigerate for longer than the instructions implied. They set, just not as fast as I hoped.

  44. User avatar modesto.vandervort87 says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe to the letter, but mine didn’t look like those! Mine fell apart… what’s wrong?

  45. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    5 stars
These came out super cute and honestly way easier than I expected. The nests look like something from a bakery—my kids loved the egg centers!

  46. 2 stars
1/4 cup peanut butter seems low to me… I ended up adding a little extra to get better coating. Recipe still okay, just adjust.

  47. User avatar Miss Cleo Dicki says:

    5 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about the peanut butter + chocolate, but it tastes like a rich candy. Great holiday snack idea.

    1. 5 stars
Same here! I didn’t think peanut butter would work with the chocolate, but it’s legit like fancy candy. 🥜🍫 Definitely trying this for the holidays.

    2. 3 stars
I’m still a lil skeptical 😅—like chow mein noodles + melted stuff sounds messy. Do they stay crunchy after setting? Also I might swap the eggs for something else.

  48. 3 stars
I tried it once and the ratio felt off… like there wasn’t enough chocolate to really coat the noodles. Still, the flavor was solid.

  49. User avatar arianne.bahringer15 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I thought it was gonna be gross (why chow mein with chocolate??). But it’s actually kinda addictive. My kids asked for more.

  50. User avatar quincy.rowe2024 says:

    3 stars
I only had smooth peanut butter, not creamy, so it was thicker and harder to stir. Still came together, just needed more time. Good flavor!

  51. User avatar Mr. Trang Walsh says:

    3 stars
I think 2 cups noodles might be too much chocolate for some brands? Mine were a little under-coated until I added extra chips. Still edible though.

  52. 4 stars
I followed the steps exactly and mine set perfectly after chilling. I used dark chocolate and it tasted more “grown-up.” Would make again for sure.

  53. User avatar essie.thiel6 says:

    2 stars
I’m skeptical about microwaving chocolate in 30-sec bursts. Mine scorched slightly even though I stirred. Flavor was still okay though, just not pretty.

  54. 5 stars
These came out adorable! The nests hold their shape better after a short chill, and the chocolate-peanut butter combo is super rich. Kids loved finding the little egg centers. ⭐️

    1. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      3 stars
Mine kinda flattened a bit even after chilling… I think I used too much peanut butter? Also I accidentally pressed like 6 eggs in one nest, so yeah 😂 Still tasty though.

    2. User avatar cristopher.macejkovic49 says:

      5 stars
Adorable is the perfect word! I tried these and the nests definitely hold up better after chilling—totally agree about the rich choc-peanut butter combo. My kids loved the “egg hunt” part too 😄

  55. User avatar Spriggan Matron says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and they set fine, but the chocolate-to-noodle ratio felt heavy. Next time I might use a bit less chocolate chips or add a touch more noodles for balance.

  56. 2 stars
I don’t get why people put noodles in chocolate. Feels kinda wrong—like eating pasta for candy. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned.

    1. User avatar nestor.rempel2010 says:

      5 stars
I get what you mean, but it’s not really “pasta for candy” — the noodles are just crunchy texture. The chocolate + peanut butter make it taste way more like a treat than dinner.

  57. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    2 stars
Microwaving in 30-second intervals is key, because I rushed once and burnt the chocolate. Learn from me, friends 😅

    1. User avatar hortensia.metz1958 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! 30-second intervals are so important. I did the same thing and my chocolate went from gooey to scorched-blob 😅

  58. User avatar alexis.wisoky1982 says:

    4 stars
I followed it exactly, except I ran out of candy eggs so I used mini M&Ms. Still worked, but the center looked messier—tastes the same, just not as festive.

  59. 4 stars
Easy to follow and honestly way faster than I expected. My only issue was my chocolate seized once (probably microwaved too long), but I restarted and it fixed.

  60. User avatar Mr. Prosser says:

    5 stars
These are so cute! I made them for Easter and everyone loved them! Definitely a 5-star treat!

  61. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    5 stars
The ratio felt a bit chocolate-heavy at first glance, but once everything coated, it was perfect. I added a pinch of flaky salt and it leveled it up.

  62. User avatar hildegard.mcglynn45 says:

    3 stars
Delicious, but my dog ate half of it before I could even try! 😩

  63. 4 stars
I tried this with my kids and we had a blast! They tasted awesome!

  64. User avatar lauralee.little says:

    3 stars
Pretty good but I think 30-second microwave intervals might not be enough for my microwave—my chocolate seized a bit. Stirring more often helped.

  65. User avatar carmela.rolfson99 says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about mixing melted peanut butter into chocolate like this—sounds weird—but I tried it anyway and it actually makes them taste more “dessert-y.”

  66. User avatar victor.reilly2021 says:

    5 stars
These are such a fun Easter-style treat! I used dark chocolate and they set up really nicely—crunchy nests with the gooey chocolate vibe. The kids loved smashing the egg into the center.

    1. 5 stars
These sound adorable! I love that gooey-chocolate center idea—my kids would definitely smash the eggs in like yours 😂 Did you find dark chocolate makes it set firmer than milk?

  67. User avatar masako.cassin says:

    4 stars
Pretty easy, but mine got a little clumpy when I melted the peanut butter too long. Next time I’ll keep it to shorter microwave bursts and stir more often. Still tasted good though.

    1. User avatar anastacia.ritchie says:

      5 stars
Yes! That clumpiness makes sense—peanut butter can get a bit weird if it overheats. Short bursts + stirring is the move. Glad they still tasted good though 😊

  68. 4 stars
The peanut butter amount is perfect. It gives that glossy coating and makes the noodles not just taste like cereal.

  69. User avatar santos.christiansen1 says:

    3 stars
Mine turned kinda messy—like the noodles didn’t coat evenly until I kept stirring a lot longer. Also I forgot to press the eggs firmly and they slid a bit. Still tasted good though.

  70. 5 stars
    Soooo good! <3

  71. 4 stars
Mine stuck to the parchment at first, I guess I didn’t line it right. After I chilled them longer, they lifted clean. Tasty!

    1. User avatar alicia.senger says:

      3 stars
Mine kinda stuck too, but I just used foil instead… it still kinda worked? 😅 Also, I didn’t chill much so maybe that’s why. These are dangerously tasty though!

    2. User avatar emerson.hintz says:

      5 stars
Good catch! I’ve had the same issue when the parchment isn’t fully smoothed. Chilling helps a lot—glad they lifted clean for you. 😊

  72. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

    3 stars
Tasted amazing but way too messy to make. My kitchen looks like a chocolate factory exploded!

  73. User avatar domenic.hermann says:

    3 stars
The nests were cute, but mine fell apart when I tried to plate them. Probably my chocolate layer wasn’t thick enough—still tasty though.

  74. User avatar Katerine Watsica III says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, mine turned out a bit messy. Some nests spread too wide and the eggs didn’t sit as neatly. Still tasty, just less “nest” looking.

  75. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about microwave melting (like, it always seizes for me). But the 30-second intervals worked. Just make sure you stir like the recipe says.

  76. User avatar Paul "Muad'Dib" "Usul" Atreides says:

    4 stars
The instructions say “room temp or refrigerate,” but mine never fully hardened at room temperature. Refrigerating fixed it. Also I used milk chocolate and it was sweeter than I thought.

  77. User avatar marlon.zboncak85 says:

    4 stars
This is a great idea! I used pretzels instead of noodles because I didn’t have chow mein. Still yum! 🙌

  78. User avatar shaunda.ullrich says:

    4 stars
Couldn’t find “chow mein noodles Crunchy variety,” so I used crispy chow mein from another brand—turns out they’re basically the same. Worked fine.

  79. User avatar jake.haley68 says:

    5 stars
These are crazy good 😅 like, crunchy nest + chocolate = addictive. I even made extra nests and ate the leftovers straight off the spoon.

  80. User avatar rocco.watsica14 says:

    2 stars
Uh… I don’t know. Mine kinda collapsed and I think I melted it too hot. It tasted fine, but the nests didn’t hold their shape.

    1. 3 stars
Mine collapses too sometimes… I think I rush the setting. Did you refrigerate? Room temp works, but if your kitchen is warm the nests never firm up. Try chilling 15–30 min.

    2. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

      4 stars
Ugh, that’s frustrating—but totally sounds like it was overheated. I’ve had chocolate “turn loose” when it gets too hot. Next time, do shorter microwave bursts and keep stirring like the instructions say. Also make sure you’re not mixing in any hot bits that stay over 30 seconds.

  81. User avatar beverley.kertzmann says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about chow mein noodles in dessert, but this is actually good. My grandkids asked for more, so… yeah I’d make it again.

    1. 5 stars
Okay but the chow mein noodles as dessert sounded WRONG 😂—yet your comment made me curious. Your grandkids approved, so I’m in!

    2. User avatar Margot Fenring says:

      2 stars
I’m still side-eyeing this… chow mein is salty/crunchy, and chocolate + peanut butter is sweet, so how do the flavors not clash? Did you rinse the noodles or just use them straight?

  82. 1 star
Why do we need parchment paper? Just use a plate. What’s up with that?

  83. User avatar logan.davis says:

    4 stars
So cute and fast. 30-second microwave intervals saved me. These are like edible crafts, lol.

  84. User avatar misti.effertz99 says:

    3 stars
Do you *have* to refrigerate? I left them out and they stayed soft—maybe because my room is warm. Flavor was good though, just not set.

    1. User avatar joe_banana says:

      4 stars
Hmm I didn’t refrigerate mine either once… they were kinda gooey but still good. Maybe try colder room or set time longer. If they’re too soft, it won’t hold the nest shape.

I usually refrigerate just to be safe—those chocolate + peanut butter mixes can soften in warm rooms. If yours stayed soft and not fully set, that sounds like it needed more chilling time.

I made them for a party and they disappeared fast. I used dark chocolate and it still tasted great—next time I’ll try a little more peanut butter for extra richness.

I dunno, they look kinda weird… but I guess they taste fine? My kids ate them.

These are dangerously easy—my kids loved the crunchy noodles + chocolate combo. I used dark chocolate and it still worked great.

Tried it with the crunchy chow mein noodles and they stayed crisp, even after setting. My kids loved the egg centers. Will make again.

The ingredients are kinda random, like who thought peanut butter + chocolate + noodles? But it’s giving Easter vibes, so I can’t complain.

Meh. Mine were way too sweet with the candy eggs, and the chocolate coating didn’t cover evenly. I’ll probably use less chocolate chips next time.

Totally get that—those candy eggs can make them way sweeter. I think next time I’d either use fewer eggs or swap in something more bittersweet to balance it out.

This is such a fun twist on dessert—like edible Easter decorations. I used dark chocolate and it set perfectly after a quick chill. Loved the crunch with the chocolate coating!

I don’t know… chow mein noodles in chocolate sounds kinda cursed 😅 but I tried it anyway. It’s actually better than expected—just make sure your nests are small so they don’t fall apart.

Okay but “cursed” is right 😅 Still… small nests + chocolate coating actually makes sense. I’m tempted to try this for Easter now!

Way too sweet for my taste. The candy-coated eggs are the main culprit. I’d keep the eggs but cut the amount next time or use less chocolate chips.

Not gonna lie, it tastes good but the nests fell apart when I picked them up. Next time I’ll pack the noodles tighter. Kids still devoured them lol.

Ahh I’m glad they tasted good and the kids still demolished them 😂 If the nests fell apart, packing the noodle mix a bit more firmly (and letting them set fully—maybe even a bit longer in the fridge) usually helps. The chocolate binding needs that time to firm up.

Mine also came apart a little, I think it’s the chow mein noodles being too dry or not enough chocolate holding it. I tried “tight packing” but didn’t stir the chocolate enough—oops. How long did you let them set? Also, do you use crunchy chow mein or like the softer kind?

Sounds like too much sugar for me. Noodles in candy? idk

My kids loved pressing the eggs in the center. Also, super quick recipe—no baking, just mixing and chilling. 10/10 for family activity.

Mine didn’t look like nests so much as chocolate noodle blobs 😅 Still tasty though. Next time I’ll shape them tighter and chill longer.

Very easy to make but I would swap peanut butter for almond butter next time.

The instructions are clear, and the microwave method worked. I didn’t have candy-coated eggs so I used mini chocolate bites—still cute. Easy and fun with kids too.

These are adorable! I used dark chocolate and crunchy noodles, and the coating was super glossy. The egg centers make it feel like an Easter snack for sure.
