Banana crumb muffins are one of those comforting baked goods that feel like a warm hug. They’re soft, fluffy, and packed with banana flavor, but it’s the crumb topping that takes them to the next level. That sweet, buttery layer with just the right amount of crunch adds texture and makes these muffins feel like they came straight from a fancy café.
What makes banana muffins so special is how they turn overripe bananas into something delicious. Instead of tossing out those spotted bananas on your counter, they become the star of the show. The riper the banana, the sweeter and more flavorful your muffins will be. It’s also a great way to reduce food waste while making something your whole family will love.
The batter comes together quickly with pantry staples like flour, sugar, eggs, baking powder, and a splash of vanilla. Adding sour cream or yogurt helps keep the muffins moist and tender. You don’t even need a mixer—just a couple of bowls and a spoon will do. The real magic happens when you sprinkle the crumb topping over each muffin before baking. Made from flour, butter, and brown sugar, the topping bakes into a golden, slightly crispy layer that perfectly contrasts the soft muffin underneath.
Banana crumb muffins are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a grab-and-go snack. They also freeze well, so you can make a batch and save some for later. Serve them warm with a pat of butter or a drizzle of honey for an extra treat. You can even toss in some chopped walnuts or chocolate chips if you’re feeling indulgent.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about baking your own muffins, especially when they’re as easy and delicious as these. Whether you’re baking for your family or just want something cozy with your morning coffee, banana crumb muffins hit the spot every time.
While Banana Crumb Muffins may not be the healthiest option out there, they do offer some nutritional value. Bananas are a great source of potassium, which can help regulate blood pressure and support heart health. Additionally, these muffins contain fiber and provide a good amount of energy to keep you going throughout the day.

Made these today—so easy and the banana flavor is super comforting. The crumb topping actually gives a nice little crunch. Will definitely bake again.
These muffins are amazing! I added some walnuts and they turned out perfect!
There are way too many steps for muffins. I like my quick and easy. Guess I won’t be making these.
Okay, but why do we need both white and brown sugar? Seems unnecessary. I just used brown sugar.
I dunno, I think one sugar is enough. Why complicate it? Just seems like a waste to me.
Brown sugar adds moisture and a deeper flavor! That’s why both are used. Trust me, you’ll love the result!
Baking soda + baking powder combo—does this really rise? Mine barely puffed. Flavor is fine, but it’s more like banana bread muffins.
They were okay… I’ve had better banana muffins elsewhere. Could use more flavor.
I think adding more spices like nutmeg or vanilla could really boost the flavor! Just a thought.
But these muffins are good! Maybe you just had some super special ones before?
Loved it! My kids ate them all! 😍
Pretty good overall. I used slightly bigger bananas and ended up with a bit thicker batter, but they still baked up nicely. Could’ve used a touch more cinnamon in the topping for my taste.
These came out super moist and the crumb topping is legit. I used a bit more cinnamon and they smelled like a bakery. Will make again!
can I use oat flour instead of regular flour???
No way! Regular flour is a must for this recipe. Oat flour might ruin it.
Yeah, you can! Oat flour should work fine. It may change the texture a bit though.
Love these muffins! They made my kitchen smell wonderful. My kids gobbled them up in no time. Definitely making again!
These muffins are AMAZING! So moist and flavorful. Will definitely make again!
This was an ok recipe, but I think it could use more banana flavor. I used only 2!
Used 4 bananas instead of 3. A bit too sweet but still good! Also baked for 25 min.
I think 4 bananas might be too much for the recipe, but I’m glad you liked it! Maybe try it with 3 next time? 🤔
Man, my kids love these! They disappear in seconds! Thanks for the recipe. 5 stars!
I don’t know, my muffins turned out kinda weird. Maybe I mixed it wrong? The texture was off.
Pretty good comfort muffins. Mine were a little too sweet with both white and brown sugar, so next time I’ll cut the white sugar down a bit.
These muffins are a hit at my house! Super easy to make and they taste amazing. Definitely a 5!
I thought the recipe was too sweet. Maybe less sugar next time?
I thought it was perfect! The sweetness is what makes them so delicious. Maybe you just need to adjust your taste buds a bit? 😋
I followed the measurements but the batter felt thick like cookie dough. Maybe my bananas were smaller? They tasted great though.
Totally possible—if the bananas were smaller (or more dry), you’ll end up with less “wet” and the batter can get thick like cookie dough. Next time, I’d mash the bananas really well and consider adding 1–2 tbsp milk (or a splash of water) if it looks too stiff.
Huh, I made these and it was never cookie-dough thick for me. I’m thinking maybe you overmixed at step 5? Also are you sure you used melted butter and not creamed? Either way—great that the flavor still came out good!
I dunno, mine came out super dense. Maybe I did somethin wrong? Not gonna blame the recipe tho. 3 stars for effort.
Hey, don’t feel too bad! Sometimes it just depends on how ripe the bananas are or if we mix too much. Yours might still be tasty! 🍌
My muffins overflowed! I must’ve put too much batter in. Whoops.
Not sure if I trust a banana muffin recipe with no vanilla… just sayin.
They’re okay… not gonna lie. I think 3 bananas might be a lot? Mine tasted slightly sweet and a little “bread-y.”
Huh, mine are always amazing. I use extra mashed bananas and it comes out super moist. Maybe you overmixed or cooked too long? 18-20 mins seems short but it matters.
Totally get you—3 bananas can be a lot depending on how big/sweet they are. If your batter turned out a bit “bread-y,” you might try mashing and using slightly less banana next time or reducing the white sugar a touch.
They were okay, but kinda dense. Maybe I did something wrong?
These muffins are amazing! So fluffy and full of flavor. I added some walnuts too and they were a hit! 🍌
I burnt mine, lol. I guess I gotta watch the oven more closely next time. Also the bananas were too ripe for my taste. 1 star.
Mmm, these sound nice. I like bananas but not too many. Might try making them with less sugar.
Bananas are already sweet, why add more sugar? But hey, to each their own! Good luck with the muffins!
Less sugar sounds like a great idea! I always find banana recipes too sweet. Let us know how it turns out!
I messed up and used salted butter—oops. They were still good, just a little too salty for my taste. Cinnamon helped balance it out.
Oh no 😅 but honestly that cinnamon move is smart. Next time maybe slightly reduce the salt in the batter, since salted butter brings its own salt.
I always use salted butter by accident too lol. I think 1/2 tsp salt might be too much if butter is salted—maybe try unsalted or cut the salt. Still sounds yummy though!
I don’t get why people love bananas so much. Muffins were okay but not great…
Bananas are overrated, I agree. But muffins? They can be better with other fruit! Try blueberry next time.
I don’t know how you can’t love bananas! They give muffins such a nice flavor. Maybe try them with chocolate chips next time!
These muffins were absolutely delicious! The crumb topping made them so special. Will make again for sure!
Too complicated, I just wanted a quick breakfast.
Yummy muffins! Added some walnuts for crunch. Will definitely make again! 🥳
I don’t know, the recipe seems a bit off to me. Why so much sugar? It’s kinda sweet for my taste. 🤔
The cinnamon crumble is everything. Mine smelled like autumn the whole time. I only had salted butter so I reduced the added salt (maybe that helped).
Followed the recipe exactly but the muffins came out flat. What did I do wrong?!
Yum! Banana crumbs were delish! First time baking and this was easy peasy. Thanks for sharing!
I followed the recipe but my muffins turned out flat. What did I do wrong? Maybe I mixed too much? 😟
I thought muffins were supposed to be fluffy? Mine came out flat and sad. 😢
Muffins are okay, but where’s the chocolate? They would be better with chocolate chips in them.
But chocolate doesn’t really go with bananas, does it? It’s a classic combo but maybe not here.
I totally agree! Chocolate chips would take these muffins to a whole new level! 🍫
I thought muffins were supposed to be like cake? These felt…different. Not my fav.
Yum! I used coconut sugar instead of white sugar. It was still sweet and so good!
I don’t know what I did wrong, but mine came out too dense. Maybe I mixed too much? Not sure.
Don’t worry! I think overmixing can definitely make them dense. Try mixing just until combined next time.
yum!!!
375F felt a little hot for my oven—mine browned fast on top, but centers were still fine. I’d start checking closer to 16 minutes next batch.
I followed it exactly and they stuck to the liners anyway (I swear the liners were fine). Taste is good though—sweet, banana-y, and the topping smells amazing.
Love how easy these are. The topping is the star. Next time I might add chopped walnuts for texture.
Bananas and muffins, a match made in heaven. Made them twice already! I used olive oil instead of butter, worked great! 😊
I don’t know…olive oil? Isn’t butter the best? Sounds weird to me. 🤔
I love the idea of using olive oil! It’s healthier too. Gonna try it next time! 🌟
Yum! The crunch topping is divine! I’ll be making these every week! 5 stars!
Yummy! But had to use 4 bananas coz mine were small! Still turned out good. 👌
Glad to hear it worked out! I think using more bananas can actually make it taste better. 🍌👍
These muffins are amazing! I made them for my family and they devoured them in minutes. Thank you!
I dunno, mine came out a bit dry. Did I do something wrong? My bananas were really ripe.
Idk, I think too many bananas might make it soggy? I always peel mine when they get too ripe. Just saying!
Maybe try adding a bit more butter next time? That can help with moisture. Your bananas should’ve been fine, but checking the baking time is good too.
Are these gluten free? Can I just substitute and it work?
Really tasty! I added some walnuts for extra crunch. Will make again!
I don’t understand why people love banana muffins so much. This recipe just seems so basic…2/5
I don’t know…they were okay. My kids liked them, but I found them too sweet. Maybe less sugar next time?
Delicious! Made them for my friends and they loved it too! #BananaLove
Muffins? Huh, dunno if I’d eat those. Don’t understand the point of banana in baked goods lol.
This recipe is good but why do they say preheat to 375 and then bake 18–20—mine took closer to 24. Could be my oven, I guess. Still worth it.
These muffins are so delicious! The perfect balance of sweetness. My kids love them.
I’m glad your kids love them! I’ve made these before and they disappeared fast! Such a great recipe!
I tried making these but they came out too sweet for my taste. Maybe less sugar next time?
I followed the recipe and they didn’t rise much. Could my bananas be too ripe/wet? Tasted good, just flatter muffins than expected.
Not gonna lie, I almost skipped the topping step, but I’m glad I didn’t. The texture contrast is awesome. Perfect with coffee.
Yes!! That crumb topping makes them so much better. I also usually hesitate on extra steps, but the crunch vs soft muffin is chef’s kiss. 🙌
I did the topping but I think I mashed the bananas too much… still tasty tho. Coffee pairing is spot on. Would’ve loved a little more cinnamon maybe.
These muffins are honestly the best! Super moist and delicious, my kids devoured them!
Not bad, but I’m confused about the topping—when it says cut in 1 tbsp butter, I didn’t get that “coarse cornmeal” texture. Still tasted fine though.
Can someone tell me why do you need both brown and white sugar? Seems like overkill to me.
Okay, I added chocolate chips because I don’t like just bananas and they were bomb! 4 stars! 🍌🍫
Just made these! Smells wonderful! Can’t wait to taste them! 🥰
Not sure what all the hype is about. Just tasted like banana bread in muffin form. 2 stars.
I used chocolate chips instead of the crumb topping. Gotta say, it was bomb! 4 stars!
Easy recipe! I replaced the butter with oil and they turned out just fine! Thanks for sharing!
These were meh. Banana muffins should be more moist…mine were kinda dense. Maybe my bananas weren’t ripe enough? Idk, won’t rush to remake.
Pretty good, but mine came out a bit dense—maybe I overmixed when stirring. Still tasty with coffee though.
Meh. Too banana-y for me 😅
Haha I get that 😄 I love bananas, but I can see how they can be overpowering. Next time, I’d maybe use a little less banana (or add some extra cinnamon) so the crumb topping balances it more.
Um, I think muffins are supposed to be baked in muffin pans? I used a cake pan and it did not work
I was worried the batter would be too wet, but it baked up perfectly. Banana flavor is strong (in a good way). Will definitely make again.
Super easy to follow. My kids loved helping out in the kitchen. Will definitely make again!
The instructions are clear, but 10 muffins is weird because I got more than that (like 12). Not a complaint, just confusion.
My muffins turned out super flat! I don’t think they rose at all. What did I do wrong? 😩
Oh no! That’s frustrating! Maybe the baking powder was old? I always check mine before baking. Also, did you mix too much? 😕
These turned out super moist and the crumb topping is such a nice touch. I added a pinch more cinnamon and they still baked up perfectly at 18 minutes.
Followed the recipe exactly and they tasted great! Will make again.
I tried this recipe, but they turned out kind of dry. Not sure what I did wrong. Maybe needed more bananas?
Yum! Can’t believe how easy this was! Perfect for breakfast or snack! 💖
So glad you loved it! It’s such a simple recipe, and the muffins turn out amazing. Perfect for my morning routine. 😊
I followed it and they kinda collapsed in the middle. Maybe my baking soda/powder is old? Also 10 muffins feels low for the batter volume.
Easy recipe, and I like that it uses up ripe bananas. Mine were a tiny bit dense, but still tasty. Next time I’ll mix less to keep them fluffier.
Totally agree—ripe bananas make these so much better. I think “just until moistened” is the key; overmixing can definitely make them dense. Glad they were still tasty though!
Made these today and they’re seriously so cozy. The crumb topping gave them a bakery vibe. I used a little less sugar in the batter and they still tasted great.
Are you kidding? These muffins rock! I’ve never used cinnamon in banana muffins before and it was a game changer!
These muffins are absolutely delicious! Light and fluffy, my kids loved them! Will definitely make again! 5 stars!
I’m glad your kids loved them! They’re super easy to make too. 😊
These are a win for using up bananas! I got 10 muffins like the recipe says. Crumbs stayed tender even the next day.
Yes! I love when banana recipes actually use up the extras and still come out fluffy. Great tip about the crumbs staying tender the next day.
Not sure about the ratio—3/4 cup sugar felt like a lot with 1 1/2 cups flour, but the muffins were still tasty. The crumb topping is the best part. Texture was more cake-y than muffin-y.
Mine came out a little dry, and I think I overmixed at step 5 (oops). Also baked closer to 22 minutes because my oven runs hot. Next time I’ll be more careful and watch them sooner.
Ugh, dry muffins are the worst—but honestly “just until moistened” is super easy to overdo. Glad you’ll watch them earlier next time though. A hot oven can mess up the timing fast!
