Baked harissa salmon is a vibrant, flavorful dish that combines the richness of fresh salmon with the bold, spicy kick of harissa. Harissa, a North African chili paste made from a blend of roasted peppers, garlic, and spices, adds a smoky and fiery depth to the salmon, transforming a simple fish dish into a delightful culinary experience. The salmon absorbs the spicy, aromatic flavors of the harissa, creating a perfect balance of heat and richness.
The preparation of this dish is simple yet impactful. The salmon is coated with a generous layer of harissa, which is usually combined with olive oil, lemon juice, and a touch of honey to create a marinade that both enhances the flavor and helps keep the fish moist during baking. After marinating for a short period, the salmon is baked until it reaches a perfect level of doneness, with a slightly crispy exterior and a tender, flaky interior.
Baked harissa salmon is incredibly versatile and pairs well with a variety of sides. It works wonderfully with roasted vegetables, couscous, or a light salad, providing a balanced and satisfying meal. The heat from the harissa is tempered by the freshness of a cucumber or yogurt-based side, which can help cool the palate and enhance the overall experience.
This dish is not only packed with flavor, but it’s also quick and easy to prepare, making it ideal for a weeknight dinner or a special meal for guests. The combination of the rich, fatty salmon with the spicy harissa creates a dish that’s both indulgent and healthy, with omega-3-rich fish and plenty of spices for added health benefits.
Whether you’re a fan of bold flavors or looking to try something new, baked harissa salmon is a delicious and exciting way to enjoy this nutritious fish.

Hate to say, but harissa is overrated. Salmon’s so good on its own, don’t ruin it!
I totally disagree! Harissa adds such a nice kick to the salmon. You should give it a try!
I tried it and it was okay, but I think I put too much lemon. Next time I’ll use less.
Baked salmon yum! My grandma always said salmon and lemon go together, she would love this recipe.
This sounds delicious! I love how you connected it to your grandma’s wisdom. Can’t wait to try it!
This was a game changer! The harissa gave it such a nice kick. My family loved it!
Wow, this is so easy to make! Even I could do it, and I’m not a cook at all!
So simple and so tasty! The parsley made it look fancy too! 👍
Not my favorite. Why would you put paste on fish? Sounds wrong. Just grill it with some spices!
I think harissa gives it a nice kick! Totally worth trying. Just grilling gets boring sometimes.
Grilling is ok, but this sounds different! You should give it a shot before judging. Not every dish needs to be plain.
Pretty good, but I think I needed more salt. Still tasty tho.
I totally agree! A pinch more salt really brings out the flavors. Glad you enjoyed it!
I followed the instructions but it was too spicy for me. My husband liked it though!
Too much lemon, it overpowered the flavor. I would reduce it next time.
So easy! I added some veggies on the side to roast too. Yum!
I dunno, harissa seems a bit spicy for salmon. Is it really good?
Sounds delicious! I love the idea of roasting veggies alongside. What did you use?
This was a game changer! The harissa gave the salmon such a nice kick. Will definitely make again!
How many calories in this? Looking to meal prep. Thx!
Yuk! My kids wouldn’t even touch it. Guess I won’t be making this again.
Nah, I think it’s amazing! My whole family loves it. You just gotta teach them to eat real food.
Maybe try making it without the harissa? My kids like it better plain! Just a thought.
5 stars for sure! I never knew harissa could be this good on salmon.
Not a fan. Fish and paste just don’t mix. I’ll stick to plain salmon next time.
I totally get it, some flavors just don’t jive! But harissa adds a nice kick to the salmon. Have you tried it with a milder sauce instead?
This recipe was a disaster for me! The harissa was too spicy even after I cut back on it. Do NOT recommend if you’re sensitive to heat!
Maybe you just made it wrong? Harissa is supposed to add flavor! Try a different brand next time, they can vary a lot.
I totally get your point! Harissa can be really overwhelming. Maybe try using less next time or starting with a milder sauce. Cooking is all about finding what works for you!
Salmon? more like salmonella! 😂 Watch out for bad fish, friends.
Haha, true! Just gotta make sure you trust your fishmonger. This recipe looks great though! 😋
I dunno, but if fish is that risky, I ain’t touching it! Maybe I’ll stick to chicken… 🐔
I forgot to buy lemon, used vinegar instead. Not so good, my bad.
Salmon is not for me. I prefer chicken but tried this because my friend swears by it. Not impressed. Just okay.
Absolutely delicious! I never liked salmon until I tried this. The harissa gives it such a nice kick! Will definitely make again.
This recipe is so simple. I love quick meals after work! Thank you for sharing!
I totally agree! Quick meals are lifesavers after a long day. Can’t wait to try this!
I love salmon, but harissa paste seems like it would overpower the fish. Also I don’t see how much lemon juice—like one lemon? Tsp?
Isn’t harissa just a kind of dip? How can it be on salmon? No offense, but strange.
Harissa is actually a spice paste from North Africa, not just a dip! It adds great flavor to salmon.
Tasty! But it took longer to cook than you said. My salmon was raw inside. 😕
I had the same issue! The cooking time seemed way off for me too. I ended up with undercooked salmon and had to put it back in the oven. 🤦♂️
1 lemon juice tablespoon? and 12-15 mins? seems off. I think mine got too spicy and overcooked. I guess ovens vary but I’m not sure I’d make again.
Easy to follow! I used red pepper paste instead of harissa and it was yummy. 😋
I don’t know about the harissa thing. Is it gonna taste good? I never tried it before. Help!
This was amazing! The harissa gave it such a great kick. Will definitely make again.
Honestly, harissa is overrated. I just don’t see the hype. Maybe I did it wrong?
Sounds delicious! I’m gonna try it with some extra garlic next time!
Delicious! The harissa gave it a nice kick. Will definitely make again!
I totally agree! Harissa adds such a nice flavor. Do you think it could work with chicken?
Sounds good, but I’m not a fan of spicy stuff. I prefer mine without any kick. 🤷♂️
Very nice dish! So simple and quick. I added some garlic for extra flavor and it was bomb!
I also love adding garlic! It really takes it to the next level, right? Glad you enjoyed it!
Quick and easy, just how I like my meals! Pairs well with rice.
Sounds delicious! Can’t wait to try it tonight with some jasmine rice. Thanks for the tip!
Baked salmon? It sounds too simple, I hope it tastes good! I mean, how much flavor can you get from just harissa?
I’m not sure about the harissa amount—2 tbsp for 3 fillets was way too intense for my household. Taste-wise it was good, just incredibly spicy. I’d cut it in half next time or serve with yogurt.
I wasn’t sure about this at first. Harissa? What’s that? But it turned out great!
Meh. I thought it would taste better, kinda bland.
Best salmon ever! 10/10 recommend! Can’t wait to show my friends.
Sounds good, but is it really that easy? I might mess it up. 🤔
I tried it too! It was amazing! Harissa really adds flavor! 😍
This was seriously flavorful—spicy, tangy, and not fishy at all. I baked mine closer to 13 minutes and it came out perfect. The harissa/lemon combo is 🔥. Will definitely make again.
Not bad, but mine stuck to the parchment a little. And the coating got kind of dry on top by the end—maybe my oven runs hot.
Good to know! I’ve had that parchment stick too—now I lightly oil the parchment before lining. Also, I start checking at 12 minutes so the topping doesn’t dry out in my oven.
Maybe your oven is too hot or the harissa mix is a bit thick? Mine did that once and I just cover it loosely w foil for the first half, then take it off to finish. 13 minutes usually works for me.
Harissa salmon is life 😂
Baked salmon? Sounds boring. What if I don’t like harissa?
You could try making it without the harissa! Just use some lemon and herbs instead. Still healthy and tasty!
Yum! This is super easy and tastes great! My boyfriend loved it. Best salmon I’ve ever made!
I thought harissa was too spicy but it was perfect! I added a bit more lemon though.
Ok but why salt? Fish usually salty already right?
It’s just salmon and some spice. Doesn’t seem very special to me.
Pretty good, but 12-15 min felt a little vague for me. I used thicker fillets and needed more time. Next time I’ll check internal temp instead of guessing. Flavor is still great though.
I forgot the parsley but it still tasted great. Guess I can’t garnish fish anyway.
How can you not have parsley? It’s like a greeen that’s supposed to be there!
No parsley? That’s okay! I rarely use it either. The harissa sounds delish though!
Too spicy for my taste. My wife loved it, but I almost called the fire department!
I think it sounds great! Maybe you just need to adjust the amount of harissa next time? Start with less and add more if you like it spicier!
Fire department? Really? 😂 It’s just some spice! Maybe you’re not a fan of heat? My husband complained that it wasn’t spicy enough!
Pretty good, but I think a bit more lemon would have helped. Also, used a different fish and it worked fine.
Harissa is a strong flavor—this could use something to balance it. Maybe a drizzle of honey or a yogurt sauce on top? Otherwise it’s just spicy and smoky.
Followed the recipe exactly, except I forgot to add salt because I was distracted (oops). It still tasted okay, but I definitely think the seasoning matters here.
I’m skeptical about mixing harissa with lemon and oil—sounds like it might get bitter. But surprisingly it tasted balanced and the salmon stayed tender.
Pretty tasty, but I’d call it “medium spicy” depending on your harissa brand. I baked mine closer to 15 minutes and it still felt a little dry, so next time I’ll start checking at 10.
Totally agree on the harissa—mine went from “medium” to “oh wow” depending on the brand too. Dry at 15 makes sense; I’ve had better luck checking around 10-12 min and pulling it the second it flakes easily.
Pretty tasty, but I think 12 minutes was a bit short for my thick fillets. Next time I’ll start checking at 10 and go by doneness instead of the clock.
Totally agree—12 min is fast, especially for thicker fillets. I usually go by doneness too (flakes easily, not just the timer).
400°F for 12-15 minutes felt a bit short for my thick fillets—mine came out slightly underdone. Flavor was good though.
Looks nice but my harissa paste was super chunky and burned a little on top. Maybe lower temp or stir more? Also parsley was out—still ate it.
Harissa on salmon sounds fancy but I’m skeptical. Like… why not just do lemon and garlic? That said, it did taste decent, just not life-changing.
Loved it. Better than my last recipe. Cooking with fish is easier than I thought!
Made this last night—so good. The harissa + lemon combo is 🔥 and the salmon stayed juicy even after baking. I used fresh parsley and it really brightened everything.
I followed it exactly and mine came out bland-ish. Maybe I didn’t use enough salt? Also I forgot to line the baking sheet with parchment and the sauce stuck a bit, which was annoying.
That sounds frustrating—if it stuck, I’d definitely line the pan next time. For the bland-ish part, I bet you needed a bit more salt (and maybe extra pepper). Harissa brands vary a lot too, so it might just be a milder paste.
Hmm… I made this once and it was too spicy, so I kinda doubt salt would fix bland 😅 But parchment really matters—mine always clings if I don’t line it. Try adding a tiny extra lemon or letting it sit with the harissa 5-10 min before baking?
This was so good I ate it all in one go 😅. My husband wants me to make it again!
So glad you liked it! It’s one of my favorites too! 😍
I dunno, I’ve tried harissa, but it didn’t taste good to me. Maybe I did it wrong?
I ain’t never heard of harissa before this. Can you even get that stuff at Walmart? 🤔
Made this last night—so good! The harissa + lemon combo is 🔥 and the salmon stayed nice and flaky. I did 14 minutes and it was perfect.
I’m not a huge fan of spicy stuff, so I mixed the harissa with a little extra olive oil and it was more manageable. Still flavorful though.
Interesting—I’m not brave enough for harissa like that lol. Do you think 2 tbsp harissa is too much even with olive oil, or is it just you liking it mild?
That’s a great idea! Adding a bit more olive oil really helps mellow the harissa heat without losing the flavor. I’ll try that next time.
Not gonna lie, 400°F for 12-15 min seems too easy… Like will it really cook through? I tested mine with a fork and it ended up fine, so I guess I doubted for nothing.
Not sure… 12-15 min feels short for thicker pieces. Mine was kinda raw in the middle once, so I now go more like 18-20 min depending on thickness. Still tasty tho.
Yeah it really can be that quick—salmon fillets cook fast at 400°F. If yours was fork-tender/flaky, it’s done.
Harissa salmon is my jam. Super easy and restaurant vibes.
Nice idea, but 12–15 minutes felt a bit vague. My fillets were thick and needed more time. Still delicious though—great spice level.
It tasted kinda weird? Maybe my harissa was old or super sweet. Also I didn’t have parchment so I used foil and the cleanup was messy. Not a fail, just not what I expected.
That makes sense—harissa can get really off if it’s old or if it’s a sweeter style. Foil can also mess with the vibe a bit vs parchment (more sticking/odd browning), so messy cleanup tracks. Next time, try a quick taste of the harissa before mixing—if it’s sweet, cut the lemon or add a pinch more salt/pepper. Glad it wasn’t a fail though!
Not sure about the harissa amount. 2 tbsp for 3 fillets seems like a lot unless your harissa is mild. Mine was fire—good, but overwhelming.
SO GOOD!! I didn’t have parchment so I used foil and it still worked. parsley on top made it look fancy 😅
I used a milder harissa and it still had flavor. Next time I’ll add a little garlic too, but overall super easy and tasty.
