Witch’s Finger Cheese Sticks

October 30, 2024

Finger cheese sticks are the ultimate crispy, gooey snack that’s loved by kids and adults alike. With a crunchy, golden exterior and melty cheese on the inside, they’re perfect for parties, game nights, or whenever you’re craving something salty and satisfying. Whether baked or fried, these cheesy bites are quick to make and always a crowd-pleaser.

The concept is simple: cheese sticks, usually mozzarella, are coated in a crispy breadcrumb layer that becomes beautifully golden when cooked. The key to the perfect cheese stick is getting that balance between a crunchy outside and a stretchy, melted inside. The contrast in texture is what makes them so addictive.

Finger cheese sticks are incredibly versatile and easy to customize. You can season the breadcrumb coating with garlic powder, paprika, Italian herbs, or even a pinch of chili flakes for a spicy kick. Some versions use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch, while others stick to traditional fine breadcrumbs for a smoother crust. For extra flavor, a touch of parmesan can be mixed into the coating.

These Finger cheese sticks pair perfectly with dipping sauces. Marinara is a classic choice, offering a tangy contrast to the richness of the cheese. But they’re also fantastic with ranch, garlic aioli, honey mustard, or even a bit of spicy sriracha mayo for those who like a little heat.

Not only are they a great appetizer or snack, but finger cheese sticks are also fun to serve alongside other finger foods like fries, sliders, or veggie sticks. They’re easy to prepare ahead of time, simply assemble them and freeze until ready to cook. This prevents the cheese from leaking out while cooking and makes them even crispier straight from the oven or fryer.

Crispy on the outside, melty on the inside, and endlessly dippable, finger cheese sticks are the kind of snack that disappears fast. Whether you’re hosting friends, looking for an after-school snack, or just treating yourself, they never disappoint.

So cool! I used to make these with my grandma when I was little! Brings back good memories. ❤️

Not gonna lie, the “almond fingernails” is the best part. I used one almond per stick like it said and pressed them on firmly. They came out golden and looked hilarious.

  3. 3 stars
This is just mozzarella and breading. Not special at all. 🤷‍♂️

I think it’s a fun twist on cheese sticks! The almond fingernails add a spooky touch. 🎃

Meh, they’re just cheese sticks. I mean how special can they be? Not impressed.

  5. 1 star
Why would you want to eat something that looks like a finger? Gross!

  6. User avatar sung.konopelski says:

Not bad, but I burnt some of them. Next time I’ll watch them closer. Cooking timing is key!

  7. User avatar Vincenzo Reichert says:

I was skeptical about almonds on cheese sticks, but they really do look like nails. Taste is mostly mozzarella and bread crumbs, so it works.

These are so creepy and fun! Perfect for a Halloween party! 🎃

I never fry stuff, seems too complicated. Can’t i just bake them? 🤔

  10. User avatar lanelle.miller says:

Made these for my kids and they loved it! They thought it was hilarious! 😂

  11. 3 stars
Tried this recipe, but my cheese melted too much and it was a gooey mess! Might need to adjust the frying time.

Mine browned fast on the outside but stayed soft in the middle. I probably had the oil too hot—should have gone slower.

    1. User avatar augustus.dietrich1961 says:

      5 stars
That sounds like the oil was a bit too hot—your instinct is right. Next time try medium/medium-low and give them a little more time so the inside can actually melt before the outside over-browns.

  13. 4 stars
I made these for a party, and everyone just loved them! They looked creepy but were so delicious.

  14. 3 stars
I followed it mostly, but I think I under-fried them because they leaked cheese a bit. Still tasty though—crispy outside, chewy inside.

    1. User avatar cristopher.bergnaum49 says:

      5 stars
Totally makes sense—cheese can leak if the outside isn’t sealed well enough. Next time, try frying a touch longer or making sure the coating is really thick and dry before the eggs/breadcrumbs. Still, “crispy outside, chewy inside” sounds like you were close!

  15. 4 stars
I didn’t have marinara, so I used ranch instead. Still delicious! Good, even if not traditional.

    1. 4 stars
Ranch? That’s an interesting twist! I might have to try it that way. What kind of ranch did you use?

    2. User avatar latosha.schultz says:

      2 stars
Sounds weird lol. Cheese sticks with ranch ain’t right. Stick to the classic marinara!

These are super fun for Halloween! My kids loved them, and they tasted great too! Will definitely make again.

  17. User avatar Ryuu Shenlong says:

I tried it, but the cheese leaked out and the coating fell off. I’m thinking the mozzarella was too soft or the oil wasn’t hot enough. Still tasty—just looked sad.

  18. User avatar alaine.gutkowski says:

You can make these with cheddar too! Cheddar finger sticks are the best. But yeah, mozzarella works too.

I love mozzarella sticks, but why the almonds? Seems unnecessary to me.

  22. User avatar keven.klocko1992 says:

I think my oil temp was too low because they turned greasy and the cheese leaked. Still tasted good, just not the nice solid stick shape. Next time I’ll chill them before frying.

  23. User avatar Spider Worker says:

    3 stars
Wut kind of cheese is this? I used cheddar ’cause that’s all I had. Still pretty good, lol.

  24. User avatar justin.bode65 says:

WHAT? Cheese and almonds? Sounds weird but I guess I’ll try it.

  25. 4 stars
Yum! But the almonds made it hard to eat! The kids got scared. 😂

I tried making these but found the mozzarella melted too fast! What did I do wrong?

  28. User avatar Elda Hayes says:

    2 stars
Honestly… I didn’t get the “fingernail” look. The almond popped off in the fryer like it didn’t wanna be part of Halloween. Flavor was fine.

  29. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

    2 stars
I don’t understand why you’d use almonds for nails. Isn’t that a little weird? 👀

    1. User avatar Mrs. Marie says:

It’s just a fun touch! They look like witch’s fingers, which fits the theme. 🎃

I think the amount of flour is off, they didn’t get as crunchy as I wanted.

  32. User avatar nestor.jakubowski39 says:

    4 stars
Yummy! I added some spices to the bread crumbs, really upped the flavor!

  33. 5 stars

But like, cheese sticks? For Halloween? Aren’t we supposed to have spooky treats? I dunno…

  35. User avatar elisabeth.raynor47 says:

Really? Cheese sticks with nails? Seems gross. Not sure what you are thinking with this recipe. 1 star!

  36. User avatar Saruman the White says:

    4 stars
I used cheddar instead of mozzarella. Is that wrong? Tasted fine to me.

  37. User avatar Elene Bradtke says:

    5 stars
Really easy to make! I added some spices to the breadcrumbs, and it gave them an extra kick.

  38. User avatar monroe.ebert says:

My kids loved these. They kept calling them witch fingers and I didn’t even have to sell it. Next time I’ll double the bread crumbs for a thicker shell.

    1. 5 stars
Aww that’s adorable 😂 “witch fingers” is such a good name. Doubling the bread crumbs makes sense for that extra crunch shell too—will try next time!

  39. User avatar nickolas.haley18 says:

    4 stars
Mine didn’t stay “fingery” at all—almonds slid off a bit. Flavor was still great though. Next time I’m gonna press the almond harder and maybe chill the sticks before frying.

  40. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    2 stars
Tasty but took too long to make! Ain’t nobody got time for that. I’ll stick to normal cheese sticks next time.
