Vanilla Cake Pops

January 23, 2024

Vanilla cake pops are the perfect bite-sized treat, soft, sweet, and endlessly customizable. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, throwing a baby shower, or just want something fun to make with kids, cake pops are a guaranteed hit.

At their core, cake pops are a clever way to repurpose cake into a portable dessert. You start by baking a simple vanilla cake, homemade or from a box, both work fine. Once cooled, crumble the cake into fine crumbs and mix it with a bit of vanilla frosting. The goal is a dough-like texture that holds together when pressed but isn’t overly wet.

Next, shape the mixture into small balls. A cookie scoop works great for even sizing. Chill them in the fridge or freezer for a bit so they firm up and hold their shape when dipped.

The candy coating is what makes cake pops visually irresistible. Melted candy melts or almond bark are ideal, and you can add a touch of vegetable oil to thin the mixture if needed. Dip the tip of each stick into the coating before inserting it into the cake ball, this helps anchor the stick. Then dip the entire pop into the coating, gently tap off the excess, and decorate while the coating is still wet.

Sprinkles, colored sugar, crushed cookies, or a drizzle of contrasting chocolate all work beautifully. Once decorated, stand them up in a foam block or cake pop stand to dry completely.

Cake pops are not only cute but also easy to make ahead. Store them in the fridge for several days or freeze them for longer. They’re perfect for wrapping up as party favors or arranging in a bouquet-like display for a dessert table.

These vanilla cake pops are a blank canvas for creativity. Add a few drops of food coloring to the coating to match your party theme or use festive decorations to match the season. However you serve them, they’re sure to bring smiles with every bite

These were a hit at my kids’ party. Everyone grabbed two. I used rainbow sprinkles and it looked like bakery stuff.

  2. User avatar lane.turner79 says:

    4 stars
Delicious but I used chocolate cake mix instead. I think it worked better! Just saying. 😜

    1. User avatar kathy.dickinson1960 says:

      5 stars
Chocolate cake mix, huh? That’s interesting! I never thought of that. Might give it a try next time! 🍫

    2. User avatar corrin.kilback63 says:

      3 stars
Not sure if chocolate would be better, but if it works for you, then that’s cool! Can’t be too chocolatey, right? 🤷‍♂️

  3. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    2 stars
I tried making these but ended up with a mess. The glaze didn’t set right and they just fell apart. Not sure what I did wrong.

  4. User avatar synthia.yost says:

    5 stars
Yummy! Kids loved the sprinkles. Would make again.

  5. User avatar edgardo.mayer1975 says:

I followed the recipe pretty closely, but mine tasted a bit too sweet. Could cut the powdered sugar glaze in half or add more vanilla to balance?

    1. User avatar Hotblack Desiato's bodyguard says:

      3 stars
Mine did the same thing once. I’d try adding more vanilla, but also maybe reduce the milk a bit so it doesn’t get even sweeter-tasting when it thickens? Not sure tho—cake pops are finicky 😅

    2. User avatar Wonko the Sane says:

      5 stars
Totally makes sense—this glaze is pretty sugar-forward (2 cups powdered sugar). Cutting it in half or adding a touch more vanilla should definitely help. You could also add 1–2 tsp lemon juice to brighten it if you have it!

  6. User avatar corene.reilly49 says:

    3 stars
I expected cake pops like the classic kind with sticks, not just balls dipped in glaze. Still good though—just different from what I thought.

  7. 3 stars
Okay but the instructions say 1/4 cup milk for glaze… and then the cake mix instructions say like 1 cup milk, so I got confused and used the wrong amount at first. Still tasted good though 😅

    1. User avatar beatris.cassin43 says:

      5 stars
Ohhh yeah that’s super common—cake mix directions usually use their own milk amount, and then the glaze has its own smaller amount. If it tasted good anyway, you probably nailed the texture for the glaze 😄

  8. User avatar kiesha.harris23 says:

    2 stars
Simple recipe but I didn’t love the texture. They were kinda dry, I think I’ll stick to cupcakes 🤷‍♀️

    1. User avatar Perla Runte says:

      4 stars
I hear ya! The texture can be tricky. Did you let them cool completely? That helps a lot! 🥴

  9. 2 stars
I don’t know about these. The mix needs more flavor. Maybe try adding chocolate next time?

  10. 5 stars
Love this recipe! Can’t believe how cute they turned out. Perfect for my daughter’s birthday!

  11. User avatar edwin.orn53 says:

    5 stars
These cake pops are super cute! I made them for my daughter’s birthday, and they were a hit! 5 stars!

  12. 4 stars
Five stars ⭐ but only because the family ate them fast. I forgot to cool the cake completely and it was kinda crumbly—still somehow worked.

  13. 4 stars
Super easy to make! But I forgot to add the eggs 😓. They still tasted fine tho!

  14. User avatar shanta.connelly says:

    4 stars
Okay but wow the texture is nice. I think my fridge time was slightly longer (like 45 min) and it made them hold shape better. Great with sprinkles!

  15. User avatar denyse.fisher2002 says:

    5 stars
    So good!!

  16. User avatar kent.fisher says:

    5 stars
These turned out adorable! The glaze was sweet but not too much, and the texture was super soft. I chilled a bit longer than 30 minutes and they stayed perfectly round.

  17. User avatar Alfonzo Fadel says:

    2 stars
Idk about this. Can’t believe people actually eat these. 😂

  18. 5 stars
These cake pops are a hit at every party! So delicious!

    1. User avatar francesco.von says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! These cake pops are always a crowd-pleaser. I made them for my kid’s birthday, and they disappeared in seconds!

    2. User avatar jody.mueller says:

      3 stars
They look good, but I don’t know if they are really that amazing. Maybe it’s just the sprinkles that make them look nice?

  19. 1 star
WAY TOO SWEET!!! My kids loved them but I couldn’t even finish one.

  20. User avatar wiley.pouros14 says:

    4 stars
The recipe is straightforward, but I wish it mentioned whether to use a stick lol. I still made them as bite-size balls and served them like truffles—worked fine.

    1. User avatar Milissa Harvey says:

      3 stars
Wait so no sticks? 😅 I’m confused but glad it worked. I followed it and mine kinda fell apart before the fridge… maybe my cake wasn’t cooled enough or my crumb was too chunky.

    2. User avatar caren.kertzmann12 says:

      4 stars
I also wondered about the stick part—this reads like more “cake truffles” than true pops. Still, the chilling + glazing sounds legit. Did you use toothpicks or just serve them as balls?

  21. User avatar kanisha.strosin24 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about using a box mix and still getting “real” cake pop vibes, but these were actually good. My kids devoured them.

  22. User avatar karl.bauch says:

    5 stars
Delicious! I made these for a party and they were a hit! Will definitely make again.

  23. User avatar Shadowfax says:

    4 stars
Cake pop recipe? 🥳 What’s cake pops? Just cake on a stick?

  24. 2 stars
1/2 cup butter and 2 eggs seems like a lot for cake pops. Mine were kinda rich and not as light as I expected. Will try with less butter next time.

  25. User avatar colby.okeefe95 says:

    5 stars
OMG these are the best! I added chocolate sprinkles. Love it!

    1. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

      5 stars
Chocolate sprinkles sound yummy! Can’t wait to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing!

  26. User avatar milagro.kshlerin1982 says:

    4 stars
Yummy! My coworkers loved them and they make me happy 🙂 just be sure to let ‘em cool well before dipping!

  27. 4 stars
Pretty easy and fun to make. Mine were a little messy dipping, but that’s probably because I rushed the glaze. Next time I’ll let the glaze thicken slightly.

    1. User avatar Draugr Overlord says:

      3 stars
Mine never really “set” right. I followed it, but the glaze felt too thin even after mixing. Maybe my powdered sugar was old? Either way they tasted good, just looked messy lol.

    2. 5 stars
Love this! I also rushed the glaze once and it was chaos—ended up doing thinner drizzles instead of full dips. Letting it thicken a bit makes such a difference.

  28. User avatar rich.landlord says:

    4 stars
Pretty good for a first attempt. Mine were a little crumbly when dipping, so next time I’ll chill longer and maybe add a tiny bit more milk to the mixture.

  29. User avatar Hassan Predovic says:

    1 star
My cake pops fell apart when I dipped them. Frustrating!

  30. 3 stars
too sweet for me, I guess. Maybe less powdered sugar next time? Can’t be perfect for everyone I suppose.

    1. User avatar Daedric Prince says:

      4 stars
I think it’s good to adjust the sweetness to your liking! You can totally use less sugar next time, or even try a different glaze. Gotta make it suit your taste!

  31. 3 stars
I had trouble with the glaze. It was too runny. Any tips?

    1. User avatar Shaddam Corrino IV says:

      5 stars
I had the same issue! Try adding a little more powdered sugar to thicken it up. It works like a charm!

    2. User avatar candi.bailey10 says:

      3 stars
Glaze runny? Just use less milk next time! Or maybe let it cool a bit before dipping? Idk…

  32. User avatar Dwarven Centurion says:

    5 stars
Yummy! I just love the vanilla flavor, especially with the sweet glaze. Good stuff!

  33. User avatar wiley.lowe67 says:

    5 stars
These cake pops are heavenly! I made them for my daughter’s birthday party and they disappeared in seconds. Highly recommend! 🍰

    1. User avatar maddie.murazik says:

      2 stars
Cake pops? Sounds a bit too sweet for me. How can you mix butter, eggs, and cake mix? Seems tricky.

    2. User avatar tyler.yundt63 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad they turned out great for your daughter’s party! 🎉 Cake pops are such a fun treat! What kind of sprinkles did you use?

  34. User avatar kurt.marvin says:

    4 stars
Yum! I added chocolate sprinkles instead. Turned out great!

  35. 4 stars
Very yummy! My kids loved them. Easy to make!

  36. User avatar lenard.conn says:

    3 stars
What are you supposed to do with the extra 1/4 cup milk? Lost me there.

    1. User avatar mayme.stanton80 says:

      5 stars
The extra 1/4 cup milk is for the glaze! Just mix it with the powdered sugar and vanilla in step 7.

  37. User avatar oren.quitzon50 says:

    5 stars
Yummy yummy! Just like the bakery ones but better! Will make again! 🌈

    1. 5 stars
I tried this recipe too! So easy and delicious. I’m so glad you loved it! 😍

    2. User avatar jerrell.mclaughlin says:

      3 stars
Looks good but I don’t think they taste better than the bakery ones. Just sayin’…

  38. User avatar jacquelynn.koepp68 says:

    2 stars
Why does everyone love these? Never tried cake pops and not sure if I should. Are they worth it?

  39. 5 stars
Super easy for beginners. I made them for a party and nobody believed they were homemade.

  40. User avatar giuseppe.schowalter says:

    1 star
Glazed?! U mean covered in the frosting? LOL 😂

    1. User avatar Draugr Deathlord says:

      4 stars
Yeah, that’s what they mean! Glazed or frosted, it’s all good 😋

  41. User avatar thanh.williamson says:

    2 stars
I don’t know what went wrong, but mine came out super dry. Did I mix it too much?

    1. User avatar Enoch Spencer says:

      4 stars
It sounds like you might have over-mixed the batter or baked it too long, which can definitely lead to dryness. Make sure to follow the instructions closely next time! Good luck!

  42. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    4 stars
Simple and quick. I added chocolate sprinkles instead of normal ones. Yum!

    1. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

      5 stars
Chocolate sprinkles? That sounds like a fun twist! Can’t wait to try that myself!

    2. User avatar norene.satterfield2020 says:

      3 stars
Quick is good, but are they really that tasty with choc sprinkles? I prefer the original ones.

  43. User avatar kizzie.wilderman32 says:

    4 stars
Super easy recipe! My kids loved helping me decorate them. Will make again! 😊

  44. User avatar leida.brown73 says:

    5 stars
Yum! So easy to make! I added some coconut flakes and it was divine! 😍

  45. 4 stars
Wow! so good. i messed up one step and still it came out tasty. definitely making again.

  46. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, it’s good, but the instructions are a little confusing. Step 1 says prepare cake mix, but then step 4 adds eggs/milk/vanilla again… I assumed it’s the same mix? Either way, mine were dense.

  47. User avatar santos.koch24 says:

    3 stars
Is it really that easy? I thought baking was more complex. I’m skeptical but willing to try.

    1. User avatar galen.rau1977 says:

      2 stars
I don’t know, seems like a lot of steps for a cake. Can’t I just bake a regular cake? Why make it all complicated?

    2. 5 stars
Trust me, it’s easier than it looks! Just follow the instructions and you’ll be amazed. I wasn’t so sure at first, but they turned out great!

  48. User avatar sabra.lowe43 says:

    5 stars
These were adorable! The texture was super moist inside and the glaze set nicely. I used extra sprinkles and they looked like bakery ones.

  49. 2 stars
The instructions say to prepare cake mix “according to box directions,” but then you’re adding eggs, milk, butter, etc again… I’m confused. Did the mix already include eggs/milk? Anyone else notice?

  50. User avatar hong.pagac6 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have butter, so I used margarine, it still worked! Great recipe.

  51. User avatar christopher.wiegand says:

    4 stars
Pretty easy, but I had to chill longer than 30 minutes because my mixture felt a bit sticky. Once I got it firm, rolling the balls was way better.

    1. User avatar laurence.baumbach says:

      5 stars
Good catch—sticky dough usually means it needs more chill time. I’ve had that happen too. Next time try adding a little extra powdered sugar or chilling until it holds its shape before rolling. Glad they turned out!

  52. User avatar Dwarven Shpere says:

    4 stars
Quick and tasty! I used store-bought frosting instead of making the glaze, and it worked great. Will definitely make again!

  53. 3 stars
I don’t understand the hype about cake pops. They’re just cakes on sticks! 🤔

  54. User avatar Warner Yundt Jr. says:

    5 stars
These are dangerously good. The homemade touch from using a cake mix is perfect—sprinkles make them look bakery-level.

  55. 3 stars
I had trouble with the glaze. It came out too thick and wouldn’t stick. Any tips?

  56. User avatar carolann.lang62 says:

    5 stars
Way easier than I thought. I don’t have fancy tools and they still came out smooth. Next time I’ll try adding a little lemon zest maybe.

    1. User avatar melvin.wiza63 says:

      5 stars
Love this! Lemon zest sounds amazing—vanilla + lemon is such a good combo. Did you think about adding a tiny bit extra vanilla too?

    2. 3 stars
I tried a similar thing once and mine didn’t really “smooth” out… maybe I didn’t chill it long enough. 30 mins is enough you think? Also do the glaze ingredients actually mix without getting lumpy?

  57. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

    5 stars
These are fun to make! I put some extra sprinkles on top. My mom loved them! 😍

    1. User avatar sarai.haley2004 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, my cake pops never turn out right. 🤔

    2. User avatar Captain Ginyu says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Extra sprinkles make everything better! 🌈

  58. User avatar samuel.stokes says:

    2 stars
Mine turned out too dry. Did I bake them too long? I followed the recipe but something was off.

  59. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, my glaze was kinda thick at first. I ended up adding a splash more milk until it dripped smoothly. Still tasted great though.

  60. User avatar grady.harber81 says:

    3 stars
They were good but kinda dry. Maybe I overcooked the cake? 🤔

  61. 5 stars
These were a hit at my party! Super easy and delicious. Thanks for sharing!

  62. 2 stars
I tried this recipe but mine turned out too dry. Not sure what I did wrong.

  63. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    5 stars
These came out super cute and actually tasted like “real” cake, not just frosting balls. I did chill them a bit longer than 30 min and the dipping got way easier.

  64. User avatar larita.feest says:

    5 stars
These cake pops were a hit at my party! Super easy to make and delicious. Will definitely make again!

  65. User avatar charley.feest98 says:

    3 stars
Eh… they’re okay, not great though. I’ve had better cake pops.

  66. User avatar charline.crist52 says:

    4 stars
My glaze was thick like frosting, not smooth—maybe I whisked too fast? I added a splash more milk and it fixed it. Would make again!

  67. User avatar Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings says:

    5 stars
These cake pops are amazing! So easy to make and everyone loved them!

  68. User avatar gayle.hagenes1977 says:

    1 star
Cake pops, eh? I don’t see the point. Just bake a cake. Seems like a lot of work.

    1. User avatar bruce.cronin says:

      4 stars
I get your point, but cake pops are just so cute! They’re fun for parties and way easier to serve than slices of cake. Give it a try, you might like it!

  69. 1 star
Cake pops are a lie. Mine fell apart the second I tried to dip them. I’m not sure if I needed sticks or something??

  70. User avatar bradly.okuneva38 says:

    2 stars
Can confirm: 1/2 cup butter + 2 eggs is a lot. My dough was oily at first. I refrigerated longer and it came together, but definitely not “effortless.”

    1. User avatar wilson.swift says:

      3 stars
Wait, I followed it exactly and mine turned out fine? Maybe your eggs were too big or your butter melted? Idk, I didn’t refrigerate longer than 30 min and it worked. Maybe just depends on the cake mix brand.

    2. User avatar Rodger Murphy says:

      5 stars
Thanks for this—yeah I had the same “what is this soup” moment 😅 I think my butter wasn’t soft enough either. Refrigerating longer helped a ton for me too, but calling it effortless is… generous lol.

  71. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, my mixture was crumbly at first. I ended up adding like 1 more tablespoon of milk to get it to form balls. Still good though!

  72. User avatar leandro.douglas says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, mine cracked when I dipped them. I think my pops were too cold or my glaze was too thick. Taste is good, presentation was meh.

  73. User avatar Maritza Corkery says:

    2 stars
Way too much powdered sugar for me—sweetness overload. Also sprinkles everywhere like a party explosion 😂 but the texture was okay.

  74. 3 stars
Good, but too sweet for my taste. I’m more of a savory person.

  75. User avatar kellye.conroy says:

    3 stars
Can you use low-fat milk? I didn’t have any regular milk and used almond milk instead. they still turned out ok, I think.

  76. User avatar mckinley.okon40 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about using 1/4 cup milk in the glaze—mine got runny and wouldn’t set well. I ended up adding more powdered sugar until it finally worked.

    1. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

      5 stars
Yeah, I had the same issue—my glaze was way too thin with 1/4 cup milk. More powdered sugar saved it for me too. I think it really depends on how dry the cake crumbs are.

  77. User avatar johnny.terry98 says:

    4 stars
    Great! Super easy.

    1. User avatar logan.koch84 says:

      5 stars
Right? I love when it’s simple like this—cake pops can be so intimidating, but this makes it feel doable.

  78. 5 stars
These look adorable! Can’t wait to try them out for my kids! Gonna add some chocolate sprinkles too. 🍫

  79. 3 stars
I dunno if it’s just me, but I feel like these cake pops NEVER look like the picture. Sad face.

    1. User avatar jude.steuber says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! Mine always turn out looking like blobs instead of pops. 😂

  80. 5 stars
Delicious. Make sure you let them cool enough!

  81. User avatar ileen.tromp73 says:

    4 stars
Pretty easy, but I had to add a little more milk to get the glaze smooth. Also my cake balls kept cracking until I pressed them tighter.

  82. User avatar Sawyer B. Hind says:

    1 star
cake pop bad!!! I dont really know why it failed, but it was yucky and hard to eat. What’s up with that?

  83. 3 stars
Too sweet for me. I’d cut down on the sugar next time.

  84. User avatar lisandra.thompson says:

    2 stars
They’re alright, I guess. But nothing special, just cake on a stick… Whatever.

    1. User avatar Mrs. Frieda Mueller says:

      4 stars
I mean, they’re just a fun treat! Cake on a stick sounds pretty cool to me! 😄

  85. User avatar maria.mayer77 says:

    5 stars
These turned out super cute! The chill time really helps the balls hold together, and the vanilla flavor is nice and not too sweet.

    1. User avatar fredric.anderson says:

      5 stars
Yes! 30 min in the fridge made a huge difference for me too—my first batch fell apart before I started chilling them. And the vanilla glaze being not-too-sweet is spot on. 😊

  86. User avatar quinton.shanahan says:

    2 stars
Why do you need milk twice? Seems strange to me. Were we supposed to mix it all together first? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar riley.feest says:

      4 stars
I get your confusion, but it’s pretty normal in some recipes to use different milks for different parts. Just follow the steps and you’ll be fine! 👍

    2. User avatar muoi.beatty94 says:

      5 stars
The two milks serve different purposes! The first adds moisture to the cake itself, and the second is for the glaze. Mixing together is key, don’t worry! 😊

  87. 2 stars
I messed up and didn’t cool the cake completely. The balls fell apart during dipping… so yeah, chill step is real.

    1. User avatar elwood.lynch71 says:

      5 stars
Ugh, been there 😩 but honestly the chill step is the whole game for cake pops. Next time, try longer than 30 min and make the balls a bit tighter (even roll them slightly firmer). They should hold up way better when you dip!

  88. User avatar delorse.schoen77 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I wish the instructions included whether to insert sticks. I just shaped them as truffles and served. Kinda work.

    1. User avatar phil.schamberger says:

      3 stars
Wait… I didn’t put any sticks either 😅 I just did the truffle balls like you. Still tasty. I think sticks would’ve just made it messier. The instructions are kinda vague though, not gonna lie.

    2. User avatar Otis Kuhic III says:

Good point—no sticks are mentioned, but step 5–6 are for forming balls and chilling. I usually insert lollipop sticks right after chilling (or right before dipping) so they firm up. Glad it kinda worked for you!

I tried this with a lemon cake mix instead of vanilla. Kinda good actually, and the glaze matched. I know that’s not the recipe but it’s a vibe.

That actually makes sense—lemon cake mix + vanilla glaze is a great vibe. Glad it worked for you!

Made these for a birthday and they were gone fast 😅 The glaze was sweet but still super tasty, and the fridge step really helps them hold together.

    1. User avatar Twisted Fate says:

      4 stars
Glad they turned out, but I gotta ask—does the glaze not get too runny? I followed it and mine slid off a bit. Maybe my powdered sugar was old? Still tasty tho!

    2. User avatar oscar.abbott89 says:

      5 stars
Aww love that 😄 I’m glad the fridge step helped—they really do hold together better. The sweet glaze + vanilla is such a winner.

  91. User avatar shakira.nolan says:

    2 stars
Not bad, but I expected more vanilla flavor. The cake mix already has sweetness and I think the glaze makes it a bit overpowering. Will reduce powdered sugar next time.

  92. User avatar adele.kohler says:

    3 stars
I tried this recipe but the glaze didn’t harden. What did I do wrong? Should I have used more powdered sugar?

  93. User avatar dee.volkman10 says:

Cake mix + glaze is such a cheat code lol. My kids loved them and asked for more. Will make again for parties.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—using cake mix makes these way less stressful, and they still taste homemade! My friends kept asking where I “baked” them from 😄

  94. User avatar oswaldo.wolf12 says:

    4 stars
Yummm! I added chocolate sprinkles and they looked fab! Great for the kids!

    1. 2 stars
I dunno, sounds kinda basic to me. Like, can you really call it a recipe if it’s just a box mix? 🤔

    2. User avatar rachell.howell2006 says:

      5 stars
Chocolate sprinkles are a great idea! I bet the kids loved that extra touch. Can’t wait to try this myself! 😊

  95. User avatar Draugr Deathlord says:

I followed it exactly and the glaze was way too thick at first—ended up adding a splash more milk. After that it worked great. Would make again.

  96. 2 stars
I think 2 eggs is too much for this amount of cake. My mixture was kinda wet and I had to add extra crumbs to fix it. Still ended up okay.

  97. 2 stars
I tried making this and it turned into a big mess. What did I do wrong?

    1. 2 stars
Instructions lack clarity. Do you bake these again after adding raw eggs, butter and milk??

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! These are my favorite treats! 😍

  99. User avatar Ms. Celine Dibbert says:

Pretty straightforward, but I think 1 box cake mix + those wet ingredients is a bit much. Mine came out dense until I chilled longer than 30 mins. Still good though!

    1. User avatar lashandra.farrell says:

      3 stars
Wait… it’s 1 box cake mix plus the butter/eggs/milk? That’s what the recipe says but seems like a lot. Still, glad you got it to work after chilling longer—maybe I’ll try your time. Thanks!

    2. User avatar eddy.wintheiser says:

      4 stars
Yeah I can see that—if the batter is too wet, the crumbs kind of turn into paste. I always chill mine closer to 45-60 mins and they roll way easier. Dense is usually a texture thing, not the flavor.

  100. User avatar Robert Rowe V says:

I thought it said bake time was included but it’s just cooling and chilling—confusing for me. Still tasted good though, and the steps are easy once you get going.

    1. User avatar anthony.roob70 says:

      4 stars
Yeah I get what you mean—this one is more “cool + chill” than true bake time. The actual baking is whatever the box cake mix says. Once you bake the cake and follow the chill step, the rest is pretty straightforward.

  101. 2 stars
I’m skeptical about using that much powdered sugar with only 1/4 cup milk. It tasted sweet but a little bland otherwise. Maybe I should’ve used more vanilla? Idk.

  102. User avatar Fortune Teller says:

    5 stars
Turned out super cute and surprisingly tasty! The glaze set nicely and the flavor actually tastes like vanilla, not just sweet. I rolled mine a little bigger and they were perfect.

These cake pops are a hit! So easy to make and perfect for my daughter’s birthday party. Everyone loved them!

I’m skeptical of anything that says “small balls” without mentioning sticks… I still made them as bite-size pops though, and they were decent. Would be better with clear stick instructions.

    1. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

      4 stars
Yeah I’m with you—“small balls” with no mention of sticks is super vague. Mine were basically truffles, but still tasty. Next time I’ll add the lollipop sticks like I’ve seen other recipes do.

    2. User avatar errol.batz88 says:

      3 stars
I think they’re fine as balls, not everything needs sticks 😅. I made them and the glaze set quick. The instructions were clear enough for me. Maybe just dip and chill longer if they fall apart.

  105. User avatar zenia.bosco says:

    5 stars
These turned out super cute and tasty! The vanilla flavor is spot-on, and the glaze sets nicely. I did need a few extra minutes in the fridge to firm them up, but otherwise followed the steps exactly.

  106. 4 stars
Super cute dessert. The vanilla flavor comes through nicely. I’ll definitely use parchment again—cleanup was way better.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—vanilla comes through so much better than I expected. I used parchment too and it saved me from a sticky mess 😂

    2. 3 stars
Cute but I’m wondering—do you refrigerate the glaze part too? Mine got kinda thick and wouldn’t drip nicely, so I added extra milk and it turned out “ok”. Still tasty though.

  107. User avatar efrain.hyatt98 says:

I followed the recipe step by step but they turned out messy. Hoped for better. 🤔

  108. User avatar cheree.yost1 says:

My cake mix instructions said 3 eggs, but this recipe says 2—so I was confused. I used 2 anyway and it still worked, just drier than expected.

  109. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, the glaze was too sweet for me. Also I ran out of vanilla before I finished decorating—whoops. Still, kids loved them.

  110. User avatar Dr. Ariane Watsica says:

These cake pops were a hit at my party! Everyone loved them! 😊

  111. 4 stars
I followed it pretty closely but my glaze was way too thick at first. I added a tiny bit more milk and it smoothed out—worked great after that.

    1. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

      5 stars
Glad you got it sorted! Cake-pop glaze can definitely thicken up fast depending on the powdered sugar brand and room temp—adding a tiny splash of milk is exactly the move.

  112. 3 stars
Ok but why do mine keep cracking when I dip them? The crumbs feel fine, I chill them 30 min like the recipe. Any tips?

  113. 2 stars
Glaze ratio question: 2 cups powdered sugar with only 1/4 cup milk made mine super runny at the end for some reason. Anyone else?

  114. User avatar Moshe Schuppe IV says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, this feels like a ‘cheat’ dessert and I’m suspicious… but it actually worked. Tasted like vanilla frosting and cake together.

  115. 2 stars
Mine didn’t set right; glaze stayed kinda sticky after an hour. I’m not sure if I over-dipped or didn’t chill long enough. Tasted good anyway.

  116. User avatar rich.landlord says:

I followed the box for the cake mix and then the rest, but my balls kept cracking when I dipped them. Maybe my cake was too dry—any tips?

  117. 2 stars
Way too much trouble for cake balls. I made them anyway but I’d rather just eat cake. The texture was decent, but it’s not a weekly thing.

    1. 4 stars
Totally get that—if you’re craving cake, cake balls/cake pops can feel like extra steps for not much payoff. I do think the texture is better when you chill them long enough (like closer to 45 min), but yeah… not something I’d make weekly either. 😅

My glaze was way too thick at first, so I added a splash more milk. After that it was smooth and dripped perfectly. 10/10 would adjust again.

Not sure about the easy part. I tried it and mine turned out like a mushy mess. Maybe I did something wrong?

    2. User avatar Restless Draugr says:

I totally agree! These cake pops are a game changer. I made them for my daughter’s birthday and everyone loved them!

Pretty easy overall, but I had to chill longer than 30 minutes. Still, once they firmed up they rolled well and dipped clean.
