Lol my turkey was like 18 lbs and I forgot to thaw it. Oops! We had pizza instead.

  2. User avatar bradly.will3 says:

    4 stars
My foil never stayed put lol. I ended up tenting it with extra pieces. Juices still worked, but plan for mess.

  3. 4 stars
Pretty straightforward, and the 165°F temp check saved me from overcooking. My turkey was a little dry anyway though, maybe I needed more broth or basting earlier.

  4. User avatar gudrun.hoeger11 says:

    3 stars
I forgot to baste once and it still tasted okay, but the skin wasn’t as golden. Still, easy process.

    1. User avatar norberto.volkman says:

      4 stars
Good to know! I always worry about basting, but if it still comes out okay then I can stop stressing. Golden skin is the only bummer—still sounds worth it.

  5. 3 stars
Is it really necessary to baste? Seems like a lot of work.

  6. 5 stars
Made this for Thanksgiving and it came out juicy with that classic buttery flavor. The basting every 30 minutes really helped—don’t skip it!

  7. 4 stars
This is a classic recipe but why no garlic? Garlic makes everything better!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! Garlic adds that extra zing that makes everything pop. Maybe just a little minced garlic next time? Yum! 👩‍🍳

  8. 3 stars
325°F seems low? I always thought turkey needs higher heat. Still tasted good though, so maybe I’m just old-school.

  9. User avatar Falmer Shadowmaster says:

    5 stars
This turned out so juicy! The butter + basting combo really nailed the flavor. I skipped the foil in the last stretch and it browned beautifully.

    1. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

      5 stars
Yes!! The butter basting really is the cheat code for a juicy turkey. I’m glad skipping the foil worked out for you—browning that last stretch is the best part.

  10. User avatar delsie.greenholt says:

    Turkey. Yum.

    1. User avatar Gustavo Zboncak says:

      2 stars
I don’t get why people like turkey. It’s just dry and flavorless. Chicken is way better!

    2. User avatar collene.schmeler20 says:

      5 stars
Turkey is so good, especially with gravy! Can’t wait to try this recipe.

  11. User avatar exie.bednar62 says:

I’m no chef but I made this and it didn’t burn! lol. Thanks!

  12. User avatar cary.dickens18 says:

    4 stars
The 12-15 lb timing feels a little tight—mine took longer than an extra hour. I trusted the thermometer though, so it was fine.

  13. User avatar Piter De Vries says:

    4 stars
I like the simplicity, but 2 hours covered then only 1 hour uncovered felt short for my 14-lb bird. I ended up adding more time until it hit temp.

  14. 2 stars
The ingredients are basic. I was expecting something more exotic. Disappointing.

    1. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      3 stars
Exotic? This is a classic turkey roast! You can add spices if you want some kick. But honestly, it’s delish as is!

    2. User avatar Yooden Vranx says:

      4 stars
I think the simplicity can be a good thing! Sometimes basic ingredients make the best meals. People really love turkey, so I wouldn’t be so disappointed.

  15. User avatar willie.zemlak says:

    5 stars
The rosemary and thyme in the cavity was a really nice touch. My house smelled like Sunday dinner the whole time.

    1. User avatar dario.lang44 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I did that with the rosemary/thyme too and my place smelled amazing the whole roast. The cavity aromatics really make it feel like real Sunday dinner.

    2. User avatar serita.rohan says:

      4 stars
I kinda figured the cavity herbs would help, but “Sunday dinner” is exactly right 😂 I used a bigger sprig though and I think I overdid it—still tasted good. Resting was key for me.

  16. User avatar mercedes.altenwerth58 says:

    5 stars
Turned out juicy and flavorful! The basting every 30 minutes really made the skin golden. Followed the 165°F temp and it was perfect.

  17. User avatar maya.dach2011 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know about the 2 hours with foil. Mine was still raw. Had to cook longer. Maybe check the temp sooner?!

    1. 4 stars
Yeah, I had the same issue! My turkey was super undercooked too. I think it’s the oven or the thermometer.

  18. User avatar fred.bogan58 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is sooo simple. I’m not a cooking genius and it still turned out better than my usual dry turkey attempts.

  19. User avatar Frankie and Benjy says:

    4 stars
Lol 325F for 3 hours for a 12-15 lb turkey seems optimistic. I followed it exactly and almost panicked. Ended up adding ~45 minutes to be safe. Turned out fine!

    1. User avatar anitra.hintz69 says:

      5 stars
Honestly, I’m glad it worked out! 325°F is pretty gentle, so adding time isn’t crazy. Next time I’d trust the thermometer first and let the clock be flexible.

  20. User avatar robt.brekke says:

    3 stars
165°F? My thermometer said something different (probably user error lol). Also I didn’t pat it totally dry and the skin wasn’t as crispy as I wanted. Otherwise decent.

  21. User avatar mignon.king40 says:

    1 star
Why would you put onion inside? That sounds gross. I just use salt and pepper. Simple is best!

  22. User avatar susana.gibson says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe but my turkey ended up dry 😢. Maybe I cooked it too long?

  23. User avatar hosea.schroeder46 says:

    3 stars
The instructions say rinse the turkey… I usually don’t do that because of the whole splashing thing. Still, flavor-wise it was solid. Just be careful cleaning up.

  24. User avatar claire.leuschke63 says:

    3 stars
Looks good! But how can you tell its done? I usually just cut into it.

    1. User avatar daron.nolan38 says:

      5 stars
You can use a meat thermometer like they said in step 9! It’s the best way to know without cutting it open.

    2. User avatar alva.bogisich says:

      3 stars
I always just guess it by looking, but yeah, I cut mine too. Never had a problem! It usually tastes just fine.

  25. User avatar norman.mccullough says:

    1 star
Who needs a thermometer? Just guess! It’s what my grandma did. 😉

  26. User avatar kareem.roberts23 says:

    4 stars
lol I just used a frozen turkey and it did not turn out like the pic! Still tasted ok tho. 😊

  27. User avatar shonna.glover says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I think melting a whole cup of butter is overkill. Mine got a bit greasy around the pan. Next time I’ll use less and still baste.

  28. 5 stars
OMG this was the best turkey I’ve ever made!! Thanks for sharing! 🦃❤️

  29. 4 stars
Is chicken broth necessary? I used vegetable stock and it worked fine.

  30. User avatar Maura Lueilwitz says:

    2 stars
Flavore was good but too dry, I think I forgot to baste it enough. Not sure if I’d try again.

  31. 3 stars
Very simple… but i wish it had more details like how big the turkey should be for the timing. I was guessing.

  32. User avatar filomena.von19 says:

    2 stars
I roasted mine and accidentally forgot to add the broth to the pan… still tasted okay but the basting felt kinda pointless. Lesson learned: broth matters.

    1. User avatar tyisha.hirthe says:

      4 stars
Oof, I did something similar once—without the broth it gets a lot drier, so your note about basting totally makes sense. Still glad it tasted okay though!

    2. User avatar donovan.heaney says:

      2 stars
Nah, broth is overrated. If you’ve got butter and the bird is covered in foil, it’ll baste itself. But yeah, lesson learned 😅

  33. User avatar grant.schimmel35 says:

    4 stars
The instructions are clear, but I feel like you forgot to mention seasoning under the skin. I did that and it was 10x better. Otherwise, solid recipe.

  34. User avatar crocodile says:

    5 stars
Best turkey ever!!! Great instructions! So juicy and tender. I am now the turkey master in my fam 🦃✨

  35. User avatar Dr. Modesto Fritsch says:

    3 stars
This seems like a lot of ingredients for a turkey. Can’t I just throw it in the oven? Sounds complicated.

    1. 5 stars
I get that! It does sound like a lot, but trust me, the flavors are worth it. Just throwing it in the oven might not give you that juicy taste!

  36. 4 stars
Turkey is hard to make, but this looks simple enough. Fingers crossed!

  37. User avatar roscoe.jacobson2025 says:

    4 stars
    Yesss turkey!

  38. User avatar carey.okon1999 says:

    3 stars
A 12-pound turkey at 325 seems too high, can’t you just cook it on the stovetop? Sounds weird to me.

  39. User avatar cody.cruickshank85 says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe but it turned out very dry. Maybe I overcooked it?

  40. 5 stars
This recipe is a family favorite! The turkey came out perfect and juicy. Thank you!!

    1. 5 stars
So happy to hear that! Juicy turkey is the best. What sides did you serve with it?

    2. 3 stars
I tried this recipe and it didn’t turn out as juicy as I expected. Maybe I did something wrong.

  41. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

    2 stars
I think I messed up somehow. My turkey was dry and didn’t cook evenly. What did I do wrong?

  42. 5 stars
    Turkey. Yum.

  43. User avatar deon.hickle84 says:

    5 stars
This was the best turkey I’ve ever made! Everyone loved it at dinner. Thank you!

  44. User avatar delmy.torphy64 says:

Yum, turkey time! Can’t wait for Thanksgiving! 🍗

    1. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! Can’t wait to make this for my family. 🦃

  46. User avatar norine.mann says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and the flavor was okay, but I think I could’ve used more seasoning—like adding garlic or more herbs under the skin. Butter smelled amazing the whole time.

    1. User avatar clemente.cummerata11 says:

      4 stars
Totally agree—this recipe is pretty mild. Butter aroma is everything, but I always bump up the seasoning too (extra salt/pepper, garlic, and a little more rosemary).

  47. 4 stars
I hate turkey but this was not bad! Surprising. My kids liked it a lot.

  48. User avatar franchesca.leuschke says:

    5 stars
Great recipe! Make sure to baste it a lot, and don’t forget the broth! Really makes a difference.

  49. 5 stars
This turkey was amazing! Juicy and flavorful. My family loved it! Will make again!

    1. User avatar homer.rath says:

      2 stars
Really? I tried this recipe too, and mine was kinda dry. Maybe I overcooked it? I dunno…

    2. User avatar moses.ortiz says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear it turned out well! The family gatherings are always better with a good turkey. Which sides did you serve with it?

  50. User avatar edwardo.torphy says:

    5 stars
Made this for Thanksgiving and it came out juicy. The basting plus that broth in the pan really helped. I also let it rest the full 20 minutes—worth it!

  51. 3 stars
I’m skeptical about “stuffing the cavity” like that without changing cook time—stuffing could cook unevenly. It was fine, but I kept checking temps.

    1. User avatar randell.mcdermott says:

      4 stars
Yeah I get why you’re skeptical. Stuffed cavities can insulate and unevenly heat the bird. I usually end up checking the thickest parts + making sure the stuffing stuff cooks too (or I just cook the stuffing separately).

    2. User avatar katerine.keebler57 says:

      5 stars
I’ve done it both ways—this recipe’s method is pretty forgiving since you’re still roasting whole for the same time and checking with a thermometer. If you kept checking temps, you pretty much solved the problem.

  52. 4 stars
The instructions are super clear, especially the “165°F in the thickest part of the thigh” part. I was nervous about the timing but it came out right around the end.

  53. User avatar isabell.armstrong72 says:

    2 stars
I tried this recipe and it was a disaster. The turkey was so dry, I couldn’t even eat it. What went wrong?

  54. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe but my turkey came out dry… Maybe I cooked it too long? Not sure what went wrong.

  55. User avatar rosella.kuphal86 says:

    2 stars
I think 325°F is too low for a bird that big… mine was kinda pale after the time. The thermometer saved it again, but I’d bump the temp at the end.

  56. User avatar adelaide.oberbrunner says:

    5 stars
This recipe was amazing! The turkey came out so juicy. Followed everything step by step. Will definitely make it again for Thanksgiving!

  57. User avatar dixie.trantow1956 says:

    2 stars
My thermometer read 165°F after the first hour, then it was overdone. I think the “thickest part of the thigh” spot matters a lot. Still edible though!

  58. 4 stars
Good instructions overall. I used fresh herbs and it smelled amazing. Next time I’ll probably season the skin a bit more because mine felt slightly bland.

    1. 5 stars
Thanks! Fresh herbs must’ve made a huge difference—love that. I agree, a little extra salt/pepper on the skin helps it brown and not taste bland.

  59. 2 stars
Didn’t understand the giblets step at first (I forgot to check the cavity 😅). Luckily I found them later and it was fine.

  60. User avatar branden.schimmel says:

    4 stars
Yum! So good! I made this for dinner and my family loved it. Crown jewel of the feast!

  61. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    3 stars
I tried stuffing the cavity like the recipe says, but the veggies were kinda watery. Could be my fault (chopped too big). Any tips for keeping them from getting gross?

  62. User avatar Storm Atronach says:

    4 stars
Simple and straightforward. I’ll give it a try for Thanksgiving.

  63. 3 stars
    I tried this but the turkey was a bit dry… I used a 20 pounder tho 🤷‍♂️.

  64. 4 stars
The ingredients seem simple but wow, it worked wonders. Everyone kept asking for seconds!

    1. 5 stars
I’m so glad to hear it turned out well! The simplicity really makes a difference. What did you serve it with?

  65. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    1 star
“Roast 2 hours then 1 more” felt way too simple for a 12-15 lb bird. I don’t trust it without more guidance—temps vary a lot! Could use more detail.

  66. User avatar tawnya.upton1979 says:

    3 stars
Mine was a little dry even though I hit 165°F. I think I basted too late in the second hour—next time I’ll be more consistent.

  67. User avatar Hiroko Predovic says:

    4 stars
The flavor was good, but I think 2 hours covered + 1 hour uncovered was a little short for my 14-lb bird. I had to roast longer to reach 165°F.

  68. 2 stars
Is it really that easy? I’m skeptical. My last turkey was a disaster!

    1. User avatar fermin.cronin says:

      5 stars
It really is! The key is basting and making sure it reaches the right temperature. Don’t let a past turkey mishap hold you back!

    2. User avatar sid.collier says:

      2 stars
I dunno, it sounds too simple. Last time I tried a recipe like this, mine was burned on the outside and raw inside!

  69. User avatar roger.gibson95 says:

    4 stars
I added garlic because I can’t help myself, and it still followed the timing okay. Resting for 20 minutes made carving way easier.

  70. User avatar hope.bartoletti1998 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid instructions, but 2 hours + 1 hour felt a bit short for my 14-lb bird. I ended up roasting longer until the thermometer hit 165°F. Still turned out great though.

  71. User avatar jacinto.waters23 says:

    4 stars
Why do you put the giblets aside? Aren’t they supposed to be cooked? 🤔

    1. 4 stars
The giblets are usually cooked separately or used for gravy! You can cook them if you want, though. 😊

    2. 2 stars
Why not just cook ’em with the turkey? Seems like a waste to set them aside. 🤷‍♂️

  72. User avatar Shavonda Nitzsche PhD says:

    2 stars
Why do people always roast turkeys? It’s just a big chicken! 🐔

  73. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    1. User avatar Eddie the Computer says:

I totally agree! It’s a basic recipe. But I think adding your own spices like garlic and paprika makes it fun! 👍

    2. User avatar elmer.boyer says:

Ugh, why do so many recipes say to rinse the turkey? It’s gross! My grandma never rinsed, and her turkey was the best!!

  80. User avatar omar.johnston17 says:

    5 stars
Resting 15-20 min is key. I carved too soon once and the slices were watery. This time it stayed nice and juicy.

  81. 5 stars
Made this for Thanksgiving and it came out juicy! The butter + broth basting combo is legit. I rested it a full 20 minutes and carving was super easy.

    1. User avatar Stormy Frami Jr. says:

      5 stars
Yes!! That butter + broth basting is the move. I love that you rested it a full 20 minutes—carving really is night and day.

Couldnt get it to brown more even after removing the foil. Maybe my oven runs cool. Taste was good though—just pale skin.

    1. User avatar Reg Nullify says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue—mine didn’t get much color until I bumped the temp up the last ~20-30 minutes. If your oven runs cool, that extra browning time helps a lot. Taste is the big win though!

    2. User avatar Many Runolfsdottir says:

      3 stars
Foil off and still pale? Sounds like either oven not hot enough or the butter/seasoning isn’t getting that nice surface heat. Maybe try drying the skin more next time and patting it dry again right before butter. Also, 325°F is kinda gentle for browning.

  84. User avatar moises.fahey1960 says:

Honestly, I just microwaved my turkey and it worked fine. Why roast when you can nuke?

Microwaving turkey? That’s wild! 😅 But to each their own, maybe you like it that way? Just seems like a lot of moisture might get lost. 🤔

It was OK, but honestly, I just threw a frozen one in the oven. 😅

Haha, totally get that! Sometimes frozen is just easier, especially during the holidays! Hope the next time you try roasting, it’s a success! 🦃

Followed the recipe, but used 2 sticks of butter instead of 1. Tasted way better!!

“Rinse and pat dry”—I kinda hate rinsing poultry, but I followed it and no issues. If you don’t like rinsing, maybe just pat it dry super well.

Lmao the turkey was good but my foil tore and butter went everywhere. Clean up was a nightmare 😂

This was the best turkey I’ve ever made! Juicy and full of flavor, the family loved it. Thank you!

Toasty bird! My grandma taught me to baste like this, makes it taste like heaven. Yum!

Basting makes all the difference! Your grandma sounds like a pro. Can’t wait to try this!

This is basically how my grandma did it, except she used sage too. The rosemary and thyme smell amazing while it roasts. A+.

Roasting at 325°F felt low to me, but it worked. Skin wasn’t as dark as I like though. Maybe I’d bump the temp near the end.

Not sure about stuffing the cavity with all that veg—feels like it’ll burn. Mine did get a bit dark, but the turkey tasted good. Next time I’ll maybe roast veggies separately.

I followed this recipe exactly, but my turkey was dry. Maybe my oven is off?

Made this for Thanksgiving and it came out super juicy. The basting + resting step really does make a difference. Great basic method!

Not sure about stuffing the cavity with onion/carrots/celery—mine tasted a bit bland inside. The outside was good though, and I loved the butter seasoning.

That makes sense—aromatics in the cavity can steam/bland out if there’s not enough seasoning or if it doesn’t get enough time to release flavor. Next time, try adding a pinch more salt/pepper to the veg before stuffing, or even roast some of the onion/celery/carrot separately and not pack the cavity so tightly.

Mmm outside buttered turkey is the best 😄 I’ve had the same issue when I stuffed the cavity—stuffing absorbs the drippings but doesn’t really get enough flavor. Also I usually skip the cavity packing pretty tight; leave some space and baste more often.

Turkey? I prefer chicken. This seems like a lot of work.

Dude, it ain’t that hard. Just follow the steps. Turkey is perf for big dinners!

I get it, chicken is easier! But turkey’s so juicy when done right! It’s worth the effort for Thanksgiving!

Not gonna lie, I forgot to baste every 30 minutes (busy cooking sides). It was still edible, just not as golden. Next time I’ll set a timer.

Flavor was great, but 2 hours covered + 1 hour uncovered felt a little short for my 14 lb bird. I had to roast longer to hit 165F. Still worth it though.

325°F seems low? I kept waiting for it to brown more. It was cooked, but the skin wasn’t as crispy as I expected—maybe I should’ve roasted hotter at the end.

Not gonna lie, rinsing and patting dry feels like overkill. But the skin did crisp up, so I guess it helps.

I followed it pretty closely, but I think my turkey was closer to 15 lbs and it needed more than 3 hours total. Other than that, flavor was solid. Next time I’ll check temp earlier.

  115. 4 stars
I was skeptical about only 3 hours total for a 12-15 lb bird, but it actually worked. Maybe my oven runs hot? Either way, great instructions.

  116. 5 stars
I followed it exactly and my turkey was honestly perfect. Super tender, crispy skin, and the herbs smelled amazing.

What if I don’t have rosemary? Can I use something else? Looking forward to making this for Thanksgiving!

The melted butter + broth combo is such a simple win. My kitchen smelled amazing with the rosemary and thyme in the cavity.

Not sure about rinsing the turkey—seems kinda risky. I know lots of people do it, but I’d rather pat it dry without rinsing next time.

The rosemary and thyme combo is money. I didn’t have thyme so I used dried and it was still good, just less “fresh” tasting.
